DevHook return to 1.50 mod!

Jas0nuk from our forums has release a modification of the latest version of Boosters DevHook that allows you to return to your beloved 1.5 firmware without doing a hard reboot. This cuts down on the time it takes to reboot and means you don't even have to touch the power button in order to get back to 1.5 firmware. All you have to do is press both Home and square at the same time and your PSP will reboot within a few seconds.

This version works with DevHook 0.42-0.42b and works by simply overwriting dh\kd\vshex.prx in order to add the reboot function. Jas0nuk has has help from moonlight, Dark_Alex and PSpet in order to make this as smooth and easy to use as possible. In the rare case that the required functions cannot run in order restart, you will receive an error message, and you can try again a few seconds later - much better than a crash.

Todo:

- Get rid of the ugly lines that appear at the bottom of the screen for 2 seconds before it actually restarts
- Faster restart
- Better error checking for psppet's findproc() function

DevHook v0.42/0.42b is required to use this. If you do not have either of these already, download it below and then install DevHook before installing this modification.

freezing XMB problem

nice job Jas0nuk! and now with somebody else also 'help' booster in devhook, and more marvelous program coming out, our PSP community has never been better!! ranmax09, J and everybody!! I've had the same problem as the 2 of you are facing at the moment - PSP freeze when trying to go back to XMB. at first, I also felt that 0.42 series are s***s, but not anymore! try reseting ur PSPs to the default setting and everything will be fine. I'm not sure about this, but it worked for me! just give it a try, and may ur problem will be solved! now plus this new 'update', devhook got better than ever! p/s : btw, thanx again to Jas0nuk for this great 'update'! currently waiting for devhook to emulate 2.6 and later fw in patience! gambare!!

Problem with Exit (Home)...

I tried to exit GTA on my PSP and it freezed. Is there a way to fix this issue?
by logicbomb.de - 2006-07-08 15:48:48
.

@ 41 just drag the kd folder to the root of your memstick and that all you need to do to update. @ 42, I would suggest using 0.42 and not the a or b updates for now cos the same thing happens to me for ANY game hope this helps you guys out

by - 2006-07-08 16:53:51
This works great, but....

as someone else already said .42b causes the PSP to lock up when trying to return to XMB from a game. Use .42a instead with this mod

K IDIOTS

OK ***** stop being all like "where the ***** is my 2.71 emulation" seriously. make your own if your so *****ing high and mighty. he can take as much time as he wants and why would we not fix all the bugs first? if we didnt it would just have even more bugs at 2.71.
by dylr91 - 2006-07-08 17:36:01
Cool but.....

It's not that good of an update. Ok, it is nice to not have to hold the power switch down for a few seconds to get back to 1.5, but Devhook has to come out with 2.7/1 emulation now that the prx is decrypted. Please Booster, work on getting 2.6+ emulation soon. Fight Night is just sitting here at my house waiting to get opened. (It was a birthday gift, but I really want to play it)
by - 2006-07-08 17:43:40
Cool

Remember that is not really an update. It wasnt dont by Booster so stop critising because there is no 2.71 emulation yet. Anywayz, GREAT WORK Jas0nuk
by - 2006-07-08 17:48:08
ha!

@ 51.. ive been playing fight night for a month now.. and i never even opened the package! I SO rox. =p
by - 2006-07-08 17:50:54
Please this would help alot...

IT WORKD FINE FOR ME BUT ONE THING I WOULD LIKE TO ADD IS FOR THIS TO NOT LOAD THE GAME AFTER THE RESET ! you know how many times i / we have to open that UMD Slot door just to not load the game !!! My door is ganna break one day with all this opening and closing lol ..... Just an IDEA *
by - 2006-07-08 18:23:57
Door

Set your parental lock to level 1, and you don't have to open the door anymore. when you start psp, it will ask you to input password, just hit "O" button and you go into OS.
by - 2006-07-08 18:34:57
YO Number 51

why dont you UMD dump your Fight Night, replace the .prx's, and play with devhook? You dont need devhook to emu 2.6 to play Fight Night...just saying, you COULD be playing it now and not have to wait.
by Talbain - 2006-07-08 18:54:38
Strange...

The home key problem doesn't happen with me, but only for street fighter alpha 3 max.
by - 2006-07-08 19:10:05
Oh please...

Like this was really needed. What we need is 2.6/71 emulation.
by peeInMyPantz - 2006-07-08 19:27:40
hang on exit

#4, #18, #29 and $42, I have the same problem as you guys, on exit, a white bar appears below my screen, and it hangs. It won't hang if i replace devhook.prx with one from 0.41
by - 2006-07-08 20:50:49
Well...It Does Work..

Well here is what u do..people like the other versions better but it does work with .42b...... Download the regular .42....then when u download .42a, just replace the dh folder with the one thats alreayd there. Then, download .42b amd do the same. Then get the patch, and do the same...i mean...thats what i did..and it worked liek a charm..
by RaiderX - 2006-07-08 21:07:59
thsi is awesome!

were getting all these mods for devhook and the modchip has nothing! HAH! XD And if we get 2.7 emulation, were set!

from booster....

BOOSTER is working on a new version of devhook which will support 2.6 ONLY. 2.71 emulation is on its way but the 2.6 version had already been almost completed before Dark_Al' managed to decompress the 2.71 reboot.bin file. Expect a devhook 0.43 with 2.6 support soon, and then devhook 0.44 with 2.7 support a week or so later. He also asked for people to stop uploading the decrypted 2.6/2.7 fw's to pspsoftware otherwise it will get shut down, he has all he needs to finish the 2.6/7 support. thanks.

appreciation

soul reaver, you're a jerk! Be appreciative that someone is working on something. The fact that we have anything is great. I think 95% of us can't program for diddly squat and for us to complain is absurd. You're getting free programs so enjoy it and appreciate the hardwork that anyone and everyone puts in. If you have time to complain, then you have time to help make the project better by contributing.
by Azrael - 2006-07-09 04:46:50
#72

The Reset function only works on the XMB. So you'd have to exit the game, and when in the 2.5 XMB, press home + Square and it will reboot the PSP into the original 1.5 Firmware. On another note, I'm using this with 0.42b and it works fine, exits games fine, and resets perfectly. Hats off to Jas0nuk for this great add-on, and to Booster for making DevHook.
by - 2006-07-09 05:03:37
Ungrateful whining little maggots.

As usual a load of whinging *****s raise their ugyly pock-marked heads to moan about it 'being a luxury' without using their five brain cells to work out it's a mod by someone else and not Booster. Ok, it's a luxury but it's a useful one. Just shut the f*ck up unless you have something to add that is worth listening to you mindless tw*ts. Booster is working on the 2.71 Devhook so stop f*cking whining like schoolkids asking when it's going to be out. IT WILL BE OUT WHEN IT'S OUT PRICKS. Ungrateful losers. Oh, and well done for the mod jas0nuk - worked first time for me and it will sure save a lot of time.

reset

thanks for the help works now but i had to put 42a on becasue 42b when in game and you press the home button when playing a game it would lock up and shut down but on 42a it does go to the xmb screen and then i do the reset trick wounder why 42b will not let you go home when playing a game ???

Hi I've been working on a couple of new images for DevHook as I find the old ones are getting a bit outdated. If anyone wishes to use them please feel free: http://www.golden-designs.co.uk/psp/dev_hook_2.5.jpg http://www.golden-designs.co.uk/psp/dev_hook_2.6.jpg (for when 2.6 works) http://www.golden-designs.co.uk/psp/dev_hook_2.7.jpg (for when 2.7 works) Hope you like them. How do we open PSX files

How can we read these files on our PC's without them being messed up.. even is a Hex Reader you can't make sense of them.
by - 2006-07-09 14:41:10
to #88

I assume by "PSX" files you mean PRX files, the are compiled modules for the PSP OS's and wont make sense when you open them because they are designed to be excuted by the PSP's OS. Its like trying to open a .EXE file on your PC, you would need to open the original source ivisual stuido (or whatever was used to create the exe) to make sense of it.
by - 2006-07-09 15:06:42
>88

Yer I know that but what PC software can be used to view the files is what I'm asking. There must be some software out there that can open these files so that we can read the contents.
by - 2006-07-09 15:15:36
It worked for me with the 0.42b

But the problem with the latest devhook (yeah, 0.42b) is that the CPU will change to default (222) when exit an ISO, so Im using the .42 instead.
by - 2006-07-09 16:00:33
Doesn't work on mine

I've tried both .42 and .42b with this and Square+Home = nothing on my PSP with this mod.
by - 2006-07-09 20:40:47

tried this mod on. seems it slows down the loading on some games and even makes some of fast loading games choppy (might be my ms, not sure). although its a really sweet fix.

Another Success For 0.44

Another flawless success for the 0.44 downdater. I now feel better. I bought my PSP with 1.5, and since i didn't know any better, I upgraded it immediately. Nice to be back to 1.5 where it's easier to use homebrew, since that's mostly what i use it for anway :)
