DAX's "Hello World" app: Fullscreen TV out for Homebrew |
Ó
Homebrew coder Art dropped by the QJ.NET PSP Development Forum and shared an application created by Dark AleX that allows programmers to access the PSP Slim & Lite's TV out capabilities using component, composite, and d-terminal cables. More than a full program, this one is more of a "Hello World" proof that the hack can be done.Art added that the resolution for composite cables is 720x503 while using component cables will yield a resolution of 720x480. The program has not been tested formally with D-terminal cables but it basically uses the same code as that of the component's. Art added:
To use it in your code, you just have to replace the call to sceDisplaySetMode with the call to my custom function pspDveMgrSetVideoOut (which calls sceImposeSetVideoOutMode, which at the end calls sceDisplaySetMode), and be aware of the bigger resolution.
This really is an exciting development especially that Sony has reiterated time and again that certain cables can only be used for certain functions. Keep checking back here at QJ.NET to know if this work-in-progress application has been made into a fully functional homebrew application.

Retailer: You know miss, that cable won't let you play games, only movies.
Me: Oh, really? You must not have any faith in DAX then.
Retailer: No, it won't display homebrew either.
Me: Not yet (smile).
I seriously didn't think it would be DAX though that would come through with this, though I guess I should have guessed it. Reguardless of if you stay around in the PSP scene or not, ty for cleaning up all these loose ends so to speak before you go. Thank you.

Anyway, this thing is beautiful. I confirm that it works with my component cables on my 52 inch sony bravia, Completely fullscreen.
But this worries me in a way, because the image is not very clear with either component or composite cables....might we see a release of a psp to tv HDMI cable??

That's the only thing that keeps me from buying a slim. I have a regular PAL TV and I'm not gonna buy a new TV just for the PSP.

Inside you'll see the folder release. double click that folder. You'll see 2 new folders:
bin and src
src is the sourcecode which is unusable on your psp and released for other developers, open bin instead.
You'll now see a folder called dvesample. COPY THAT FOLDER AND ITS CONTENTS TO YOUR PSP\GAME directory!
then hook it up to your tv and see the first fullscreen homebrew application

a. The retailer knew who Dark Alex was... Retailers are noobs. They know nothing of homebrew.
b. The clerk called you "miss", suggesting that you're female. There's no such thing as a female gamer. The geek race is not lucky enough to have such beings
Heh heh. I'm just messing with you.
Ya, I remember when people were saying, "Oh noes, the PSP Slim won't get h4xxed", and I always replied, "riggghhhttt.... Even though we're not going to have custom firmwares, we'll still have eloaders and HEN."
But hey, turns out I was wrong for the better!
Also, not to troll, but why don't we just use remote joy? We get better graphics and we don't have to buy a progressive scan TV. OR... does this application allow for us to play on a regular TV? o_O
Finally, I was right, Dark Alex has unretired again...
So, his history is: joined/retired/joined/retired/joined
/retired/m33ed/retired/joined/retired/ and just recently joined again.
His homebrew social security benefits are really gonna be screwed up by the time he hits 63...

I am a retailer and I know who DAX is.
do you live life on judgments that are completely wrong. or does diarrhea just spew from your head at random moments?

but take notice that the screen is extremely fuzzy when using psp to tv cables regardless of which variety.
I think that's gonna be the next serious problem...we'll have fullscreen support for homebrew, but the quality will be horrible...we need an HDMI cable.

But, I'm no expert. If only DAX spoke fluent English... :(
Maybe you can help us, Mr. Robert Court?

Yes... You can. If your PC has Video Out cable
and hooked up to your TV set, Remote Joy
makes perfect sense.

So, no, it's not just for component, if that's what you're asking. sorry, but I'm not sure if you're asking whether it's only for component ("all cables"/"composite owners can't play"), or whether you're just asking if homebrew in general works. Either way, no, homebrew doesn't work yet, but yes, composite works with hello world.
