Dark_AleX releases 3.30 Open Edition Revision A |

It's out, folks! Dark_AleX has finally released the latest in his series of Open Edition firmware - the much-awaited 3.30 Open Edition Rev A! This is serious cause for celebration especially after days of waiting for DaX to finally give word on what's up with his work (and what's up with his PSP). 3.30 OE-A retains all of the original Sony 3.30 FW functions - PSOne game library support, Internet navigator, etc. - but because Dark_AleX is THE man, he's added a lot of features and changes to his latest custom FW (some taken from PSPGen's release notes).
- Homebrew support under either 1.50 or 3.30 kernel
- Region spoofing
- Patched a protection that prevents the FW to load higher firmware modules
- Fixed a bug that could have caused instability in 3.10 OE after recovering from sleep mode
- Recovery Mode
- Direct launching of PSOne games (converted with PSP format)
- Direct launching of demos and homebrews
- Possibility of regulating hte speed of the PSP's processor
- Direct launching of ISOs/CSOs
For the full installation guide, please go over the Readme. It's there for a reason. We know you're all excited about the 3.30 OE-A but be mindful of what you're doing. Take caution. This can only be installed to PSPs with firmwares 1.50, 2.71 SE, 3.02 OE, 3.03 OE, or 3.10 OE. Downgrade first if your PSP has a different FW. 3.30 OE-A cannot be installed to PSPs with FW 3.10, 3.11, or 3.30.

you can't upgrade from the official sony firmware 3.30, you have to be in 1.50 or 3.1x OE in order to upgrade. You can't do anything except sitting there and waiting for a 3.30 downgrader come out to downgrade your psp to 1.50. Be patient!

It was reported by many that original Sony FW 3.30 cannot be installed on TA-082's with custom FW (3.10 OE-A', etc.), because it is patched (i.e. "corrupted").
Any information about 3.30 OE-A addressing this problem? Some TA-082 ppl even BRICKED their rig when updating 3.10 OE-A to official 3.30 FW! It is quite possible that those of us having this motherboard will have to wait for next 3.30 OE update...
Please, all of you with luck or brick, report here with enough technical info about your HW, previous FW version, etc. It will help others to avoid possibly serious problems in the future.

first off psone games no one will know wether they work unless their from sony, until the popsloader is cracked. Theirs a lot of ppl winging about bricking, now dont download full packs of websites, make it yourself then you can check the sha1 key. This program doesnt brick it if its done properly

Keep with the times! Read the topic! 3.30 firmware does NOT support 3.30 OE-A. You need 1.50 or the other custom firmwares! And you cant downgrade to 1.50 first as you need 3.03.

ok your in 3.11, to run all these homebrew u have to start from 1.5 unless you already have a custom firmware in that case you update. 3.03 has a downgrader but you will need to wait, try not to upgrade it that way youll have more chance of a downgrader

If you're not upgrading because of stupid icons, you really need to reconsider.... the 3.30 POPS plugin is amazing and all of my games run at 100% speed. Who the ***** cares about themes and *****, the PSP is used to play games, not to look at your pretty icons...

Honestly, am I the only one who doesn't take hours looking at his XMB before deciding what I want to play? I'd much rather have the web browser updates, PSX Support, the brightness level at 4. why cant you do it on firmware 3.11
and the upgrade went fine ;) I've been upgrading since 3.02 OE-A on my TA-82 motherboard, and haven't had a single problem yet.

What is so hard about making the damn file for flashing! It just takes you 2 minutes of your life, and you can be sure it will not brick (if you are capable of reading instructions)
Read the post, it says all firmware only up to 3.03 (if you have gta to downgrade), and if you have 2.80 or below you can use a downgrader

Unfortunately, FFVIII still freezes. As to the guy who asked were it freezes, it will freeze quite often in battles, and on some bosses it will freeze every time stopping you from going on.

it really depends on whether or not you use your psp to browse the internet. If you do, and you spend alot of time in places like barnes and noble or starbucks, then yes because 3.30 came with 6 free months of wifi at any and all t-mobile hotspots. (although im not 100% sure if it works on 3.30 OE yet. Dont see why it wouldnt though)
u have to wait for a downgrader to come out, as this updater can only update from 1.5 or the custom fws listed above

It says it supports the direct loading of (converted) psone games, yet it also says that it doesn't support popsloader at the moment. Does this mean that I won't be able to play my converted ps1 games on this firmware? Just wondering.

Dark Alex is sweet don't get me wrong but this firmware update is worthless. The whole reason I got it was so I could play Medal of Honor and Syphon Filter and they don't work. Nice work DA but I'm disappointed.

this new custom fw is not different from 3.10 i have them both in 2 psps and they are the same except for the name thats all none of the official 3.30 are on the custom
isnt popsloader the thing that let u load any version of pops that u wanted for example loading 3.10 pops on 3.03

Okay, Right now I have some PsOne games in ISO and BIN. I used IceTea to convert them to eboots and I haven't had any trouble so far. The eboots use the PoPs Loader to load. So what will I have to do to play the PsOne games on this new firmware since popsloader isn't supported? Do I just play them straight from the ISO like I do my PSP games? Or do I need to convert them to some other format? Any help is appreciated.

Popsloader doesn't matter. Popsloader is a plugin, people, he does NOT MEAN POPSTATION PS1 EMULATOR, HE MEANS POPSLOADER, PREVIOUS FIRMWARE POPS PLUGIN. unless you are totally obsessed with this plugin and topmenuplugin, you can update to this.

hey Im Runing 3.30 OE-A with custom icons on them. I had to find a way and I did somewhere so im gonna try make my own and post the pics in a few.
Anyone else having problems getting gameboots changed, I keep getting white with no sound with all of my gameboots.
Can someone confirm wether games like Musashi, Resident Evil 2, and FF8 work now? That's the only reason ill update, cause I want to get back to uploading games. If those games or other games still don't work..I'm not gonna bother.

I got them to work from this but im reading the READ ME on how to make more or make the old ones from 3.03 to work. Any one can try the one thats done as proff im still making more now.

I'm not sure if gaining a level froze in the past, but it does now. I played up until the Komodo Dragon Mother (first star level) and after I defeated it, it froze. Didn't even get to the menu, just froze upon defeating the dragon.

Ok I hate to admit it but, but yes most of my friends are noobs when it comes to technology; I even had to downgrade their psp's for them, but dont get me wrong, yes the psp is all about games and entertainment but no one wants to have a psp that looks the same as someone elses, hence the purpose of custom icons and sounds.
Don't try usbmod 0.4 for OE fw's because I guess D_A saved up some space on this new release. I tried to replace the prx's that are needed for it to work in the XMB and no go. Had to go into recovery mode to fix it. Luckily I'm not a dumb ***** and I made a backup of the 3.30 files first.
Yes, the topmenu rco's work on 3.30, but there should be a separate customization of the rco's for 3.30.. Using older versions (e.g. from 3.10) would load upon boot (yes it would, but not the 3.0x ones), but then some of the icons are misplaced, or worse makes the PSP crash while trying to browse them. rco's for 3.30, 3.10 and 3.0x should be separate... Try using the latest RCO editor for this... Zinga Burga also has the modified topmenu 3.10 rco's attached on PSP-hacks.com... Do search the topmenu rco's for 3.30 separately...

Anyone have any information for custom gameboots? On my previous firmware (3.03 OE-C), I installed the gameboot path modifier so that gameboots would run off the memory stick instead of flash0. After installing 3.30 OE-A, it got canceled out or whatever.
So anyone know how or even if there is a way to get the gameboot path modifier to install on 3.30 OE-A?

Dark_Alex has made it as easy as he can. certain files used in the custom update aint legal. that is why noobs have to learn how to make those certain files(e.i. data.dxtar) which he gives us oeupdmaker to create it. technicly, he aint distributing it, people are making their own data.dxtar. Dark_Alex is popular, and he's smart enough to not get sued by sony.
oh, and fk the noobs. you guys need to learn how to google cause your questions have been asked a million times

do a reset to factory, then set it up again. Browser should work.
You need to decrypt and then hex edit the opening_plugin.prx to change where it will look for the gameboot.pmf.
What I persoanlly did was put my gameboot.pmf on flash1 at the same place you will find it on flash0 "/vsh/resources/" then once you open the opening_plugin.prx in a hex editor search for the string "flash0:/vsh/resource/gameboot.pmf" and just change "flash0" to "flash1" so it will look for the gameboot.pmf there instead.

Follow these instructions.
Put the files on your memory stick.
Make sure there's 4 copies of the files.
Place your PSP in the microwave, and hit defrost.
Defrost the PSP for ~37 seconds, no more.
Place it in the freezer for ~2-3 hours.
Place it in the toilet (to warm it up).
Flush 3x.
Congrats! Enjoy 3.30 OE-A!!!!!!
Reset your settings, this should fix the problem.
Settings should always be reseted when you install a new custom firmware
This is the most important part, good thing I remembered.
The WLAN switch must be off. Don't forget that part, you could brick your PSP.

I was logged in as someone else somehow too. When I posted it said that I was unregistered (surprise). This was on April 1st though.
Did you try to go into the Recovery settings and set it to Fake region enabled and also Fake UMD Region enabled to see.
Go to Recovery mode, and in configuration or something and it will say free region or fake region.

Put it in GAME150. It doesnt matter which kernel mode. That only applies to the GAME folder.

naah 3.03 oe-c stays the best.... PSPone etc can be run so whats so special nothing ther are no games that need it.. mybe more homebrew stuff ok but if u want a brick just for that i wouldnt do it..

I'm going to wait until a custom firmware comes out for a firmware that has many good improvements. 3.30 isn't a great improvement.

I agree with many people here that custom icons are not a good enough reason to not upgrade.
However, what's the reason TO upgrade to 3.30 OE? Sure, some PS1 games (that I don't play) work better, but in my opinion that alone isn't good enough reason to risk bricking my PSP (no matter how small that risk should be).
Eventually new games will require newer-than-3.10 firmware, but by then we might already have a newer OE aswell.

for you layman, id recommend the undiluted platinum or the new devolution mod so you can reflash you NAND and get rid of 3.30
or wait for a downgrader (which could take a very long time and would mean you need to avoid any further official sony upgrades until it comes out)

One of the reasons might be the support for full screen resolution playback of mpeg4/h264 and even bigger ones, like 720x540 (no need to rescale and encode). This information is from Engadget, btw.
Till now, even with custom FW's, I was able to play fullscreen only AVC and only if put into the /mp_root/* - not from /video. No mpeg4 fullscreen. No resolution bigger than 480x272. Can anyone confirm that full screen is possible with both codecs and from /video folder??
Plus other features like T-Mobile AP's and PS1.
there is a function in the recovery module that when u disable, those games will run. i forgot what it is. i used to have prob running PES but not anymore.

SaN, a friend of mine bricked his TA-082 PSP while using this OE installer from a 3.10 OE. He is an experecienced user so the problem should be in the updater itself or maybe in the corrupted keys of the 2.71 downgrader, so be careful.
do not put the pimped out icons in the 3.30 oe-a fw it cause me a brick but i fix it oh and flash agent f4 i think is working fine in the 3.30 oe-a fw

After you execute the 3.30 update maker program it will create a data.dxar in the "oeupdmaker" folder. Then you have to move that into the "303oeflasher"
Change your background, font, battery icon, volume bar, start up sound, XMB sound, gameboot, and waves. There.

Running Fw (3.10oe-a), thanks to buying a gta:lcs from gamestop about two weeks ago for $17!! And so I have been trying to use popstation. First Question: How do I go about acquiring a iso. picture of my PSone game? Second Question: With multi disk games like Legend of the Dragoon, etc, etc how is disk changing noticed. Should I run popstation for every disk and put all the psone isos' in the game150 folder or what?

i was hoping 3.30 would remove even the rest of those artificial restrictions imposed on video playback.

Just to let you know, I think I just bricked my PSP :
- model : PSP1000 fw 2.0
- updated from 3.10oeA
- Sony MS 2go high speed
- data.dxar file generated from original sony firmware updates
- battery 100% power cord not plugged
- usb cable connected while updating
- girlfriend called on the phone just as I launched the update (not sure it changed anything though)
On power up the screen backlight goes on (but the picture stays black), the MS led blinks for a couple of seconds and then... nothing, the umd doesn't even spin. Just wanted to let you know guys, in case it helps...

I have an imported gold psp 1000, that came with DA 3.10 oe a. I got it from colourful zone.com I upgraded to 3.30, but I noticed that during the upgrade a corrupted file appeared under the 3.30 upgrade. I went ahead a pressed the "X" button and created the DAX file. At the next step I noticed another corrupted file under the flasher updater. I took a chance pressed "x" and it updated to 3.30 oe a. Anyone know why the corrupted files appeared? Anyone else with imported PSP have this happen?

after updating to oe versions (if this is not done hen will reexecute when gta lcs is loaded, )downgrading from oe version which as i learned bricks psp running OE versions with TA-082 motheboards. to fix as soon as you get your version of dark alex OE whatever installed reformat your memory stick then transfer all your backed data IE music video gamesaves etc in aproperate folders all "homebrew apps should be in game 1.5 folder "

also disrupting the power will result in a brick
and there are a few psp units (as all have a very slight inpurity in the silicon that results in a fliped byte in the ram that would result in a crash normaly, if this fliped byte in ram should accoure during a "ROM FLASH" (updaters and downdaters) the processor could crash as it recieves a corupted set if instructions from the ram (and this happens around an estimate of every 300 or so hours of operation) resulting in a brick)

I used the noobs goofy exploit downgrader to downgrade from 3.03 firmware to a 1.5
installed 3.03 0E A,B,C, also compatible with future upgrades, dont recomend downgrading any oe version unless there is a lot of proof that it works and always check up on multipal sources as people put up false posts, recomend qj.net for all your download needs

Ya, i just recently downgraded my PSP from 2.0 to 1.50 for this. I installed the 1.50 and 3.30 updaters and placed them into the folder. Right now it's "extracting and packing the folders" but it already finished 1.50.pbp and it's taking forever for 3.30.pbp. Anyone know why? I haven't installed the 330oeflasher folders yet since it says it needs the DATA.DXAR file. Could someone please help and let me know why it's taking so long to extract and pack the 3.30 firmware?

Exactly the same problem here. My PSP is semi-bricked in that I can restore back to 1.5, but now on any fw 3.10 > 3.30 I keep getting this blank screen... it usually follows a restore to default settings where it resets and then goes to this blank screen.... I wish I had just stayed with my stable 3.10 :'-(

Yesterday I tryed 3.30 OE but 2 of 3 PS1 games which I have in my MemoryStick at now, make lots of big graphic gliches. All of this games works full correctly, error free in 3.10 OE.
Today I have 3.10 OE A' again ;).
I found one created data.dxar, it works I tried it ;)

i went on the whole psp customization craze for awhile but i ran into too many problems that seemed to stem from the dimensions of resources and fonts, etc. Like the custom font on 1 of the icon packs i downloaded seemed to screw up the way my web browser displayed text.
this update fixed the freezing problems encountered when recruiting norris using the tele-porter and going into the status menu now all we need is a new cwcheat to get to disk 2 !!!!

I use Devhook.52 with 3.11 firmware, no problem at all with my TA-082 PSP. Have 3 PSP, PINK, GOLD and Black , all TA Mot . Never brick with devhook.

I've been convinced to give 3.30 a go. The only real reason I've been hanging on to 3.03 is the topmenu customization, which is well more than worth sacrificing for more compatible gameplay (which is why I bought the PSP in the first place...gameplay). So I'll let you guys know how the upgrade goes.

Im still waiting for a 2.81 dg that doesnt require GTA. Do devs just assume that everybody has an unpatched version? I thought that getting hundreds more people on the scene would be more important than an update which about 10/15 people have upgraded to.
