Dark_AleX releases 3.30 Open Edition Revision A

It's out, folks! Dark_AleX has finally released the latest in his series of Open Edition firmware - the much-awaited 3.30 Open Edition Rev A! This is serious cause for celebration especially after days of waiting for DaX to finally give word on what's up with his work (and what's up with his PSP).

3.30 OE-A retains all of the original Sony 3.30 FW functions - PSOne game library support, Internet navigator, etc. - but because Dark_AleX is THE man, he's added a lot of features and changes to his latest custom FW (some taken from PSPGen's release notes).

Homebrew support under either 1.50 or 3.30 kernel
Region spoofing
Patched a protection that prevents the FW to load higher firmware modules
Fixed a bug that could have caused instability in 3.10 OE after recovering from sleep mode
Recovery Mode
Direct launching of PSOne games (converted with PSP format)
Direct launching of demos and homebrews
Possibility of regulating hte speed of the PSP's processor
Direct launching of ISOs/CSOs

DAX says this doesn't support popsloader at the moment due to "Sony rearranging again the module list of pspbtcnf_pops", but rest assured that the great dev will be making a new version that will support all current pops in 3.10 OE, 3.30 OE and maybe 3.03 OE-C. The dev also tried testing the customization of icons, but that didn't work out.

For the full installation guide, please go over the Readme. It's there for a reason. We know you're all excited about the 3.30 OE-A but be mindful of what you're doing. Take caution. This can only be installed to PSPs with firmwares 1.50, 2.71 SE, 3.02 OE, 3.03 OE, or 3.10 OE. Downgrade first if your PSP has a different FW. 3.30 OE-A cannot be installed to PSPs with FW 3.10, 3.11, or 3.30.

you can't upgrade from the official sony firmware 3.30, you have to be in 1.50 or 3.1x OE in order to upgrade. You can't do anything except sitting there and waiting for a 3.30 downgrader come out to downgrade your psp to 1.50. Be patient!

Hello all!! :)

It was reported by many that original Sony FW 3.30 cannot be installed on TA-082's with custom FW (3.10 OE-A', etc.), because it is patched (i.e. "corrupted").

Any information about 3.30 OE-A addressing this problem? Some TA-082 ppl even BRICKED their rig when updating 3.10 OE-A to official 3.30 FW! It is quite possible that those of us having this motherboard will have to wait for next 3.30 OE update...

Please, all of you with luck or brick, report here with enough technical info about your HW, previous FW version, etc. It will help others to avoid possibly serious problems in the future.

ok your in 3.11, to run all these homebrew u have to start from 1.5 unless you already have a custom firmware in that case you update. 3.03 has a downgrader but you will need to wait, try not to upgrade it that way youll have more chance of a downgrader

Honestly, am I the only one who doesn't take hours looking at his XMB before deciding what I want to play? I'd much rather have the web browser updates, PSX Support, the brightness level at 4. Unfortunately, FFVIII still freezes. As to the guy who asked were it freezes, it will freeze quite often in battles, and on some bosses it will freeze every time stopping you from going on.

Okay, Right now I have some PsOne games in ISO and BIN. I used IceTea to convert them to eboots and I haven't had any trouble so far. The eboots use the PoPs Loader to load. I'm not sure if gaining a level froze in the past, but it does now. I played up until the Komodo Dragon Mother (first star level) and after I defeated it, it froze. Didn't even get to the menu, just froze upon defeating the dragon.

Yes, the topmenu rco's work on 3.30, but there should be a separate customization of the rco's for 3.30.. Using older versions (e.g. from 3.10) would load upon boot (yes it would, but not the 3.0x ones), but then some of the icons are misplaced, or worse makes the PSP crash while trying to browse them. rco's for 3.30, 3.10 and 3.0x should be separate... Try using the latest RCO editor for this... Zinga Burga also has the modified topmenu 3.10 rco's attached on PSP-hacks.com... Do search the topmenu rco's for 3.30 separately...

You need to decrypt and then hex edit the opening_plugin.prx to change where it will look for the gameboot.pmf.

What I persoanlly did was put my gameboot.pmf on flash1 at the same place you will find it on flash0 "/vsh/resources/" then once you open the opening_plugin.prx in a hex editor search for the string "flash0:/vsh/resource/gameboot.pmf" and just change "flash0" to "flash1" so it will look for the gameboot.pmf there instead.

Follow these instructions.

Put the files on your memory stick.

Make sure there's 4 copies of the files.

Place your PSP in the microwave, and hit defrost.

Defrost the PSP for ~37 seconds, no more.

Place it in the freezer for ~2-3 hours.

Place it in the toilet (to warm it up).

Flush 3x.

I agree with many people here that custom icons are not a good enough reason to not upgrade.

However, what's the reason TO upgrade to 3.30 OE? Sure, some PS1 games (that I don't play) work better, but in my opinion that alone isn't good enough reason to risk bricking my PSP (no matter how small that risk should be).

Eventually new games will require newer-than-3.10 firmware, but by then we might already have a newer OE aswell.

One of the reasons might be the support for full screen resolution playback of mpeg4/h264 and even bigger ones, like 720x540 (no need to rescale and encode). This information is from Engadget, btw.

Till now, even with custom FW's, I was able to play fullscreen only AVC and only if put into the /mp_root/* - not from /video. No mpeg4 fullscreen. No resolution bigger than 480x272. Can anyone confirm that full screen is possible with both codecs and from /video folder??

Plus other features like T-Mobile AP's and PS1.

i was hoping 3.30 would remove even the rest of those artificial restrictions imposed on video playback.

Just to let you know, I think I just bricked my PSP :

- model : PSP1000 fw 2.0

- updated from 3.10oeA

- Sony MS 2go high speed

- data.dxar file generated from original sony firmware updates

- battery 100% power cord not plugged

- usb cable connected while updating

- girlfriend called on the phone just as I launched the update (not sure it changed anything though)

On power up the screen backlight goes on (but the picture stays black), the MS led blinks for a couple of seconds and then... nothing, the umd doesn't even spin. Just wanted to let you know guys, in case it helps...

I have an imported gold psp 1000, that came with DA 3.10 oe a. I got it from colourful zone.com I upgraded to 3.30, but I noticed that during the upgrade a corrupted file appeared under the 3.30 upgrade. I went ahead a pressed the "X" button and created the DAX file. At the next step I noticed another corrupted file under the flasher updater. I took a chance pressed "x" and it updated to 3.30 oe a. Anyone know why the corrupted files appeared? Anyone else with imported PSP have this happen?

and there are a few psp units (as all have a very slight inpurity in the silicon that results in a fliped byte in the ram that would result in a crash normaly, if this fliped byte in ram should accoure during a "ROM FLASH" (updaters and downdaters) the processor could crash as it recieves a corupted set if instructions from the ram (and this happens around an estimate of every 300 or so hours of operation) resulting in a brick)

tip get your psp insured and I hope your not to discouraged to try again

I used the noobs goofy exploit downgrader to downgrade from 3.03 firmware to a 1.5

installed 3.03 0E A,B,C, also compatible with future upgrades, dont recomend downgrading any oe version unless there is a lot of proof that it works and always check up on multipal sources as people put up false posts, recomend qj.net for all your download needs

Ya, i just recently downgraded my PSP from 2.0 to 1.50 for this. I installed the 1.50 and 3.30 updaters and placed them into the folder. Right now it's "extracting and packing the folders" but it already finished 1.50.pbp and it's taking forever for 3.30.pbp. Anyone know why? My PSP is semi-bricked in that I can restore back to 1.5, but now on any fw 3.10 > 3.30 I keep getting this blank screen... it usually follows a restore to default settings where it resets and then goes to this blank screen.... I've been convinced to give 3.30 a go. The only real reason I've been hanging on to 3.03 is the topmenu customization, which is well more than worth sacrificing for more compatible gameplay (which is why I bought the PSP in the first place...gameplay). I mean, how many times do people have to ask if FF8 works or ask why their 3.30 psp doesn't want to install OE. Doesn't matter if your a noob or not, chances are... you can read.

So bottom line, if you already have 3.03+ OE firmware, you probably don't want to risk upgrading for a few minor things. And there probably wont be a 3.30 downgrader for a while. And no, you can't have your stupid little custom XMB's. And to people who have no clue as to what they're doing, theres this thing, and its called the forums. Educate yourself. Im still waiting for a 2.81 dg that doesnt require GTA. Do devs just assume that everybody has an unpatched version? I thought that getting hundreds more people on the scene would be more important than an update which about 10/15 people have upgraded to.
