Daedalus Pre R5: Compiled Daedalus Source Code

Ó

Daedalus EmuCoderX was kind enough to tip us about StrmnNrmn's new compiled Daedalus source code done by PSdonkey. He has compiled all the updated source code by StrmnNrmn as he had been getting a lot of messages from people who wanted to try them out but couldn't because - you guessed right - they couldn't compile the source code on their own.

PSdonkey has also included a new eboot icon, eboot sound and background which were all originally from his own program. He has enhanced the code by making minor changes to it so the code will be able to run roms faster. Keep in mind that this isn't the Donkey64/Ultimate64.  This is  StrmnNrmn's Daedalus source code which was compiled and enhanced a bit by PSdonkey. You can download the Daedalus Pre R5 emulator for either 1.00 or 1.50 by clicking on the link below.

» 1.5 unzipping

I had a 2.0 running this emu, and when i unzipped a zipped rom, it took like at most 20-30 sec

However, I downgraded to 1.5, and now when i unzip, it takes the longest time. I didn't even wait for it to finish unzipping. I counted and its like 32kb unzipped per 5 sec.

Is this supposed to happen?

Btw great job, StrmnNrmn. Framerates are amazing.

And thanks to PSDonkey, for compiling it for us

by Rom - 2006-06-10 13:20
» Give credit

Hey #20, give credit to people who deserves it. PSdonkey did all of us a big favor by compiling the source code for us. He also stated that he made some minor improvements to the source code as well to increase speed with the games. I do notice games play faster then they did before. Go read StrmnNrmn's blog and you will see what PSdonkey has posted over there.

#22, .n64 roms seem to work fine for me. Try renaming the .n64 roms to .v64 and dont zip them up. It should work better like that.

» Old news

I have been playing this for a while now and got it of another site yesterday. I would have emailed Pspupdates about this but they never give credit where it is due so as usual they were late. Dcemu also got this news before them and the thread is already quite long (yesterdays thread). Now back on topic, this pre-release is quite a bit faster than the R4 and I suggest everyone try out AeroGauge because the speed is amasing. Give it a try and you just might be very surprised trust me.

I am extremely suspicious of this. Most of the praise is coming from unregistered people making short, vague comments, and I'm generally cautious about sources compiled by a third party. God only knows what might have actually been done to it.

Can anyone with some credibility confirm that this actually has a notable framerate improvement, AND confirm that the download isn't loaded with a Trojan or something? Thanks.

"compiled and enhanced the source code"? My arse, he probably just saw this as a chance to get his name back. PSDonkey is the faker who made a non-existant N64 emulator called Donkey64/Ultimate 64.

PSmonkey and StrmnNrmn are the real N64 devs :)

by LordofTheBored - 2006-06-10 21:54
» Good Grief!

This is WELL out of order.

It's very bad form to compile and release someone else's source without their say-so. Now, if there are bugs, people are going to blame strmnNrmn, when he probably new about them already.

Idiots like donkey just damage the PSP homebrew scene, and the open-source family in general. If he's made any changes to the source, he should publish them and contribute them to the project.

by Annonymous Coward - 2006-06-10 22:34
» No one else could compile it!!

If u take a look at the Dadelus blog u will notice that people were experiencing difficulty compiling the source. Also I remember Strnnm openly stating to people that were too eager to wait for his release to go ahead and compile it themselves if they can't wait. It is just a coincidence that the source happened to be compiled by an idiot faker who obviously wants to get praise. One can give creidt where it is due but the fact will always remain, ******** is nothing more than a fake and always will be.

How good are the graphics in AeroGeuge?

by Annonymous Coward - 2006-06-11 02:04

The graphics aren't anything special, it is just a 3D racing game with futuristic looking vehicles and some of the textures are a little messed up, however it is very near a playable speed. Starfox appears to be faster too.

» "Shift" key

One key - Home, perhaps? - could be set up as a shift key that, when held, changes the function of the d-pad to serve as the C-buttons.

Look at how the keymapping for Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror works. It has a LOT of gameplay functions, yet they're set up in the button mapping in such a way that they're easy to learn and use. It can be done, with a little imagination.

» I think I found what causes the freezing for me

Due to the limitations of having a 32MB memory card, The emulator only works if you have plenty of memory left, I was only able to get it to work with Super Mario 64 since it was an 8MB rom, I tried Starfox 64 and Mario Kart 64 alone and it wouldnt start with them, Meaning you have to have a certain amount of space left on the memory card in order for the emulator to properly load.

by steve_723 - 2006-06-11 09:30

Everybody the sound does not work. There is no sound in the emu. It says the eboot icon has sound so if you brows to the game in the game menue it playes music.
