Custom XMB Plugin v1.0

Ó

Sony PSP - Image 1Remember the SCEP-XMB plugin that homebrew developer poisonhzkj has been working on? We'll be taking a break from that particular homebrew to make room for this other promising project in the works - the Custom XMB plugin 1.0, or CXMB for short.

According to |-Anubis-| over at the QJ.NET Forums, this plugin "once enabled in the vsh.txt, will allow the use of custom RCOs from the memory stick instead of ones flashed to flash0." What this means in layman's terms is that this plugin will allow PSP owners to customize their XMB without having to flash their unit. CXMB is built to work for custom PSP firmware 3.40 OE.

Given the file bundle's lack of a readme, we strongly advise users to pass by |-Anubis-|'s thread over at our QJ.Net Forums, and poisonhzkj's site (our source) for installation and usage instruction. On a last note, CXMB's author further states that the plugin is part of an ongoing XMB theme controller under development - expect later versions of SCEP to come equipped with a plugin based on CXMB. The bundle also includes Calabi Spheres XMB Icons theme.

Kudos to aDcOoL for informing of this big news.

» *NEWBIE*

I kind of new in this stuff, can I ask a link to this plugins forum for more info before I install in on my 3.40 OE PSP Thanks.

» hey tim

Newbie: when running this plugin just copy and paste all the files in the zip to the root of your mem stick. Then go into recovery (turn psp off completly hold R triger while powering back up) and go down to the plugins area and find the prx called cxmb and enable it. Click exit you should return to main menu now click exit at the very bottom. If all goes well (which it does) you should actually have a vista-type theme.

Now if I have been informed correctly all the files in your resource vsh have been redirected to your memstick so now you can change themes with out the risk of bricking. all you have to do is treat the TM/vsh/resource like the folder on your flash copy and paste the same way. I used and tested all the themes in Ofwx's pack and they work flawlessly. So there ya go ;)

This is truely a great plugin. Now there is no more risk and no limit on flash space (if you have a rediculously lager memstick like yours truely (:4GB oh yeah rock on:)

Sometimes the XMB resets itself. Its no biggie though just reboot PSP.

» wow

OMG this is soooo cool , before you know it there will be no such thing as flashing, everthing will be stored on the memorystick. GREAT JOB MAN!!!! keep up the good WORK!!!

» no flashing? not entirely true

The fonts (or the configuration parameters that points out what fonts to use) seems to end up in flash1 after the second boot.

And, when I removed the plugin + the folder, I got a blue screen to fix up the configuration.

Ok, it was just a matter of pressing 'O' so no harm done, but I still think people should be careful with this.

There IS SOME kind of flashing involved here, believe me.

Why I removed the plugin was because the PSP hangs when starting a game or homebrew (after the "start game animation). I have 3.03 OE-C.

Hey fellows good day, so does this mean there is no flashing involved through the PSP itself? And is it safe to use then? Thanks

» ?question?

sooooooooooo... any ideas why the internet browser might stop working after using this? yeah it it just stalls out then turns off like a ***** when u try 2 load a page. only issue i,ve had though

» ok, 3.40

So, when it comes to not working on my PSP, I admit it's my bad. Should have read the forum for this plugin then (since it's obviously too much to ask from the developer to throw in a simple readme, or even QJ to give us a hint what firmware its for).

Nevertheless, don't tell me this plugin doesn't modify any contents of flash1, coz it does.

That seems to be a general thing on the PSP scene, to be very short on documentation and instructions. How hard can it be to write a detailed instruction/guide/tutorial for the software? Geez

I'm working myself with embedded software on a large company so I know the importance of user documentation.

Ok, I admit it's free software and that they are kind enough to develop this for us without claiming any money, but still I think it's sloppy to leave out the documentation for basic use of the software.

It's still beyond me why people stick with 3.03 instead of 3.40 when it can do everything 3.03 can and much more.

» 3.40 OE??

A lot of ppl are saying that 3.40 OE is better that 3.03 OE, but i hear that 3.03 OE-C is more customizable??!!

Is this true? Im at a 3.03 OE-C rite now, and i dunno whether i should update...

» upgrade to 3.40oe

You should upgrade to 3.40oe either way. New games and applications will be using it more and its just as customizable. I wish some of these idiots would grow up a little (the guy above me).

what is flashing?

how do i turn my psp off (c0mplete)?

how do i put homebrew on my psp mem stick?

how come this doesn't work for me?

i dont know anything

by INT - 2007-06-06 14:44
» I've had no problems

If you 3.40 OE-A you should have no problems... even with other plugins working. So if I am correct this does flash the PSP but just not dangerously because its in flash 1?

by chw42 - 2007-06-06 14:45
» n00bs

You have to access recovery to flash stupid peoples. recovery + turn psp completely off, hold R while turning on. You get a blue screen. Connect to the comp with USB, go to advanced and toggle flash 0. Make sure you back up your originals before flashing.

by Larswad - 2007-06-06 19:01
» flash1

Yes, that's right. This plugin modifies the registry file in flash1 (means it changes some paths in that file to point to your stick instead).

So, if you disable the plugin in recovery afterwards, these paths will STILL point to your memstick.

That means in turn, that if you then delete the theme folder contents after this, you WILL get a bluescreen.

Can be fixed of course by hitting 'O' and everything is fine again (except you will have to set up your PSP again).

For me, this is enough to wait until the developer has fixed a way to restore the registry paths.

by Intarn3t - 2007-06-06 23:20
» The internet browser

jams the PSP as soon as it begins loading a page. It works, however, if you've just come out of recovery mode, but none of the custom fonts will be there.

» @ Jin

3.03 OE-C is said to be much more reliable. That means more bugs on 3.40 OE-A... I stood at 3.03 OE-C, until some weeks ago. Has worked flawlessly. Never seen a bug in it (yet...).

3.03 OE-A is not any more reliable than 3.40. If you disagree, please explain.

» Note To Larswad (About the Registry Paths)

Good day Larswad, Well I disabled the plugin in the Recovery Menu and connected USB deleted the "TM" folder + vsh.txt in the "seplugins" Folder and exit then booted, and shutdown the PSP, then turn it on again everythings OK.

What I think is that its the vsh.txt is the one that points to your memstick. I didn't get any BSOD, I even removed the memory stick no BSOD. See you at the next post.

by Tim - 2007-06-08 04:25
» BSOD

Some themes doesn't work ends up hanging like slipknot theme, I even disabled the plugin and it is in the default state but the text is still on themes not the default. I turned off the psp, and turned it on without the memory stick and it gave a BSOD, but my psp is fine now. I hope the author of this plugin has an update soon, so we don't have to reset our PSPs everytime.

By the way which themes work well on the 3.40 OE? How will I know if the Theme is 3.40 complaint? Guys care give an advice. Thanks

by Larswad - 2007-06-12 05:00
» Tim:about the bsod

Hi Tim!

Does that mean that you also got a BSOD?

You see I didn't know that stuff about the VSH.txt file, because that is the file that lists the available /activated plugins if I remember right, and I don't think that this file should necessarily be deleted just because of ONE single plugin that behaves badly.

You agree Tim?

» trouble getting it to work

i did everything it says to do but at the end when my psp starts up my psp turns white and i can only see the icons game and memory stick

» 3.50

Hmm... I wonder if this works for 3.50(I'm sorry if I act like a noob). I tried getting into Recovery mode, but no avail.
