Custom Firmware for DevHook was created by brethren - Image 1Homebrew developer brethren dropped by QJ.Net PSP Forum today and informed us about a proof-of-concept application allowing becus25's custom firmwares to be run using DevHook.

The developer added that it would be possible as well to run the said firmwares from the memory stick provided that some part of the codes will be altered. Now, why do you think he did this? As all of you are aware, becus25 has been providing the PSP community with an alternative custom firmware.

brethren believes in this firmware and believes that more people should give it a go. Running becus25's creation from the memory stick, needless to say, will reduce the risk of bricking.

Anyway, brethren shared that what should be done is re-write the code in the "recovery.elf" to alter and access the files in the DevHook folder instead from the flash0 and change the WiFi-up autobooting of DevHook to something like IR Shell.

Custom Firmware for DevHook has its own Readme file so please browse through that first before using the program on your unit.

# Run From Mem StickDartan 2007-05-30 04:18
I guess one of the "points" is that it looks like you can run this from your memory stick and reduce the risk of a brick - If I read it right. Besides it's good to have another coder working and paving the way to keep Custom Fw's going.

I thought the problem with running custom firmwares via devhook was that devhook expected all of the firmware files to be encrypted. Did these guys find some way around that?

I helped brethren to adapt the custom firmware with devhook, and finally all work :P.

Devhook would help with not having to brick your psp trying to get the new custom firmware. But there would still be the problem of devhook taking up memory and slowing things down a little. That's why the custom firmware is good on its own in flash memory. But I can still understand having devhook as a safety to those who are afraid. Psp's are not cheep to people that don't have the money to buy a new one .

Take you PSP back and tell them it messed up and you want a new one, hopefully it hasn't been 30days and if it has, hopefully u got a warranty. then when u get it, hope it's 2.71 or below so u can downgrade. with 3.03 u need an unpatched version of GTA

Ok what's the big deal behind the custom firmwares anyway? What do they offer over the regular firmwares? Why should I try out these custom firmwares vs. just waiting for the decrypted version of 3.50 an using DH? Who is brave enough to list the reason for using custom firmware vs just using the DH with decrypted firmwares?
