CFW Folder Blocker v1.0: protect against CFW-messing UMDs *tiny update* |
Ó
Homebrew developer Torch has released CFW Folder Blocker v1.0, a useful
little plugin that hides CFW folders while in game mode. Torch made the program to protect against new UMDs that detect and delete certain files, messing up your custom firmware.
Here are the release notes:
Some new UMDs are detecting files in the ms0:/seplugins and ms0:/iso folders and causing problems, even deleting files from these folders.
This plugin will hide these folders in GAME mode so they can't be accessed.
To install, copy cfwblock.prx to ms0:/seplugins and make an entry in game.txt e.g. ms0:/seplugins/cfwblock.txt 1

*UPDATE* Torch warns that you should disable to this plugin if you want to use DAX's LEDA app. Says Torch:
EDIT: Before anyone asks, this will NOT bypass any anti-ISO protection in games. It is for the protection of YOUR files on YOUR memory stick. Use the original UMD and it will work fine, and your files are also safe.
Note: If you want to install DAX's LEDA then disable this temporarily to install it or it will show error. In the next version I will add a check to disable it in homebrew.

What the hell is Sony's freakin problem?
I can see why there tryin to stop the piracy, but deleting our own files? (the non-pirated ones?)
that's just kiddish. Sony's acting like kids...
stupid sony.
it was fair enough for them to patch thier firmware and hardware to stop us hacking... but deleting our files? now thats just low
So what games would you use this for? Anyone have a list? Is it confirmed to work on those games?
They are deleting only pirated iso's. You wont have a problem if your not a pirate.
actually, Justin, your wrong. there's really no difference between pirated ISOs and our dumped ISOs. it will delete any iso. Learn before you talk.
And can you explain to me how Sony is going to know if the ISO's you are using are pirated or legal?
I personally hate UMD's, they are too loud, take up too much battery power, and are way too slow. There has to be a better solution to the piracy issue.
On top of that, seplugins isn't piracy, its preference. Why would they mess with that? Somehow I think that ninja-deleting files from our memorysticks is crossing the line into some legal issues. It is my mspd not theirs, I should get to choose what files get deleted.
Anything that isn't UMD or PSN is considered pirated on the PSP.
You shouldn't be able to rip a PSP game to begin with. That in itself is illegal nowdays, as like on all DVDs, there are warnings that they cannot be reproduced in any way or form, not even for a simple backup copy. But everyone still does it.
So Sony deleting any of your ISO's is nothing wrong on their part. Stop being such a *****.
Dumping any ISO's in itself is pirating. Making backup copies has been common practice for the longest time to that everyone does it, but it's still illegal.
Learn before you talk.
First of all, Backups of UMD's or DVD's is NOT illegal everywhere, so before you open your mouth, stop to think about it. Secondly, not every ISO on a memorystick is a UMD ISO, did you ever stop to think about this?
Unless these UMD's are actually scanning the ISO to ensure it is UMD ISO, they shouldn't be allowed to do this. They really shouldn't be able to do it anyways. Sony can not delete my files without my permission and I think torch for this plugin to prevent it. Next time you open your mouth kupomogli I'll do you a favor and stick your foot in it for you so you won't have to do it yourself.
if you read the EULA sony has the right to deete anything on your memory stick, as you are using THEIR psp, their just "licensing" it to you, yes i agree that they shouldnt be able to, but thats why this nice man made this plugin
actually, dude, your incorrect. learn a thing or 2 about cfw
this is really helpful, umd backups are so helpful when you are traveling. would i rather have a memory stick with me, or 10 different games? but does anyone know for sure what these games are? this is the first of any news i heard of cfw file deleting games
wouldnt unauthorised deletion of files come under the TROJAN catagory, whatever the system???
yes it may say in the licence agreement that sony have the right to delete files off their product, and that we "licence" the product for use from sony. but the way i see it...once its in my hands i can do whatever i want (even if its taking a sledgehammer 2 it ¬.¬).
Anyway this plugin was a very good idea for those who still use UMDs to play games
Fine, I'll stop buying their UMDs altogether.
I was all about supporting the UMD format, and they go and pull some underhanded stunt like this? It's over.
I will keep my emulators and homebrew and whatnot, Sony can shove their useless UMDs.
They really have a great piece of hardware, too bad they can't manage it properly.
can anyone shed some light on which new games have this? i had a feeling one day this kind of thing would happen but i never thought it would be via UMD but i guess that's the only way sony could accomplish this aside to a complete firmware overhaul. but great plugin friend its projects like this that keep psp brew up and running full speed forest gump style thanks.
I'll stop buying too. Time to turn my UMD slot into a portable hdd holder.
yeah i'm gonna stop buying their games. Sony's worthless.
on ofw, iso is useless
pirated or not pirated, it will be deleted (if that's how it works)
I agree with the above posters ... a list of games that do this would be nice.
This is the first I've heard about UMD's deleting files
i dont think its sony's doing, so far its only teh DJ max games...
This is the first I have heard of anything like this as well. If this is all true, then this should be included in all CFW.
I wonder if the ISO's of these new games would do this as well, since their an exact copy of the disc..
to be honest i haven't used a UMD in so long i have all but forgot what they look like.
i agree there loud, eat to much battery, and fragile...; oh and did i mention load times i miss cartridges ;.;
did i just date myself :。
I'm going to use this plugin for now on then.
"if you read the EULA sony has the right to deete anything on your memory stick, as you are using THEIR psp, their just "licensing" it to you"
Just read it, and you're completely making sh*t up.
How is it homosexual that Sony is deleting ISO's?
I agree with Freeplay. It's not ""Sony's"" PSP it's ours. I'm doin what ever i want with mine
i think what he meant by "gay" was stupid, dumb, aweful. he doesn't literally mean "gay"
now, sony's way over the line. they're already making are very invasive protection. this is just like starf*cks protection on pc games. i mean the way they put protection on their stuff it's more or less likely invading our privacy. Good luck sony, it seems like you need to control everything. haha
So now Sony is deleting people's files using UMD's? That's pretty crazy...
The way I see it, they can't prove if the ISOs are illegal or not, since there's nothing illegal about making backups for personal use...if you own the UMD, it is legal to own an ISO of it as well...however, since a PSP with OFW can't use ISO files anyways, having them on there kind of proves you hacked your PSP, so I can see why Sony would remove them, even if it isn't right for them to do so...they're gonna stretch the end user agreement as far as possible, aren't they? -.-
I don't agree with the idea or think that Sony should delete files from your memory stick, but I see where they're coming from here...
P.S. Wouldn't it be obvious if the UMD was deleting a 1GB+ ISO from your memory stick? That doesn't happen instantly, it takes a little time...
so that's what happened to my seplugins folder...
i ran some ISO and it destroyed stuff in it. omfg! Sony is a virus now. looks like the PSP really is dying,...because Sony's killing it on purpose! Thank you, Torch! =D
well its our fault that sony is doing this. so before you guys go blaming sony, blame yourselves! they were'nt makin money and now because they try and make you buy games its wrong? and then you guys cry over it! just use the plugin and thats it! your making it seem worse than wat it is. thats why the plugin was made. you guys act as if there was no way to counter it.
It was a good plan to stop piracy, but some how it failed. Don't think they're going to end this battle... now that this plugin is out.
They have their ways ;) watch out piraters and Backup fans.
i knew my comment would get a negative rating! its ok cuz everyone knows im speaking the truth. im not sayin im NOT with you guys on the way you feel, but some of you just over exaggerate on some things. you guys act as if you had nothing to do with sony doing this. how would you feel if your a game developer and your working for a company and your making games but only so many are gettin sold to either break even or just barely breaking even. you would get mad and upset and blame piraters and try to do something to stop them as well. just try and look at it from sonys perspective, and vice-versa for sony aswell.
Well, he could have said it was straight then.
Reality is games cost too much, piracy will always be around, if game makers sold games at a price people would accept piracy would not be so huge!!! How about cutting their no doubt too large executive paychecks!!!
Apparently it was the game developers an no Sony who put this stuff on the UMDs
Maybe DAX and other CFW devs should add the ability to change the names of the SEPLUGINS and ISO folders, rendering this "protection" useless.
"ISO and CSO" folder?
"PRXPlugins" folder?
What about add a bypass to bypass the deletion on a firmware update?
You idea sounds cool, too.
Some day they're going to start deleting flash0 stuff... like the ISO loader or something... but wouldn't that leave into an exploit.. idk
Actually thats not possible because UMD games run in user mode and cannot access flash0.
deleting flash0 stuff wont stop pirates. after we're done playing whatever game, we throw back in the old backed-up files for flash0. Sony wont stop piracy.
Sounds like a rumor or early April Fool's to me. I would need a trusted party (IGN or someone) to confirm this. I don't think Sony has legal rights to do this (they probably do not want spend their time in court) nor they would want to decrease their (un)potential PSP game buyers.
No, you should read the article. This plugin is here to prevent the deletion of certain files that make our psp's games "unusable."
Okay then. Byebye PSP.
I've never pirated a game in my life. My UMD library has all the PSP titles I currently want to play, I don't have an R4 for my DS, I get all my PC games from Steam etc... Yet Sony think it's smart to not trust me and (potentially) delete my files?
That's the last blow. I won't be buying any more PSP systems or games. That's a serious breach of privacy all to stop a few (thousand) pirates.
They weren't making money because the vast majority of PSP titles are worthless, unoriginal or ported titles that nobody cares about. even when I loved the PSP I could only name 7 MUST HAVE titles.
Tip to sony+
Let the next PSP be moddable, let us put custom firmwares on. But make it immune to UMD piracy. Get devs to make good games for it.
I understand the part about it not really being our PSP so Sony can do what they want with it.
But my ISO's and Plugins arent stored on my Sony PSP not even on a Sony Mem Stick. My ISO's and Plugins are stored on 3 fake Sandisk cards.
I havent read the EULA but I dont think Sony could own whatever is put into my PSP?
By "protection", I meant the ones on these UMDs, not this plugin.
Until I see actual proof of such UMDs and a list of game titles THAT DO INDEED erase files from the memory stick, I'll just take this as a rumor created by someone with nothing better to do. If this article was true I'm sure it would've specified AT LEAST ONE game title.
Maybe you should pirate too if you're that pissed off lol.. I only used my PSP for Super Nintendo and PSX +) And the only games I ever played were the ones I've previously owned (mainly because I don't know anything about the games I didn't own)
i think that won't work. maybe (if this whole thing about deleting files is true) it looks for file types. maybe the UMD checks for certain file types and not folders named "ISO" or "SEPlugins". it prolly just looks for file types such as ISO, CSO, and PRX.
This whole thing could just be a hoax so someone can be like "yea i saved the CFW scene because of my plugin and now no one has to worry about their files getting deleted. ALL CUZ OF ME!" they just want to make themself or themselves (might be more than one person?) just feel better cuz they have no life or something.
NVM its just one person, Torch. i didnt read who made the plugin, i just skimmed thru it.
and one question, is there any difference between games on the PSN Store and ISOs/CSOs? cuz i kno some games are on PSN which are out as UMDs aswell right? so maybe thats how it tells the difference between Piraters and Non-Piraters?
It's not a hoax.. I've seen several people on the DCEmu forums who have confirmed it:
http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/showthread.php?t+182906
There are reports of Dissida deleting cwcheat and pspstate, I don't know I don't have Dissida.
DJ Max refuses to launch if it finds in the seplugins folder any file which has 'iso' in the filename. eg. blablaisobla.prx
deleting a file is different from creating or copying where the information the file holds is actually altered, but moving and deleting are diferent because ussually all they do is change the table of contents so to speak, so in deleting a file they could simply unlink the data from its area in the "Table of contents" which would take a sec, this doesnt actually delete the file as the data is still there just waiting to be overwritten, they could however go for a full delete and wipe the data too which would cause the noticability you mentioned
Followed the link to read what DCEmu had to say about it and it says no thread is specified. Trying to find confirmation since this is a potentially dangerous thing for those who run homebrew, bought all the games they have ISO's for, and CFW's.
You clearly haven't seen the numbers on BitTorrent.
Given the ridiculous amount of piracy on the PSP, I doubt developers would bother making ANY new games without seeing Sony do SOMETHING to prevent it.
And the comments on THIS blog are pretty disgusting.
First people don't buy games because "they aren't good enough," but then DJ Max Fever comes along (a game that had a hard enough time getting released in the US) and people STILL download the game as well as the patch, made to do nothing else BUT help people play their pirated game.
Now we have people complaining that they're "too expensive"... last time I checked, gaming was a LUXURY and not a right!
enough for flaming sony,
if yall like im not going to buy any umds nomore then sony will go bankrupped. and so there wont be any new psps or new firmware or anything like that, and there sure wont be anymore games produced.
just let them do what they like. i dont care as long as i get software and hardware updates
Well they probably do something similar to a "Quick Format" for computers. all it does is delete a little bit and register the file as empty space so when you write another file it just dumps the old iso
Lol kool i use steam too but really only for Counter Strike Source and Half Life 2.
In EULA sony claims to license the SOFTWARE to us. Not the system. Once you hack your psp, you no longer use all of sony's software, and arent fully being licensed anything anymore. Furthermore, it is very shameful to secretly delete our files. "ninja-delete" lol. They should give it up, it's obvious that the general public is far more dedicated to countering sony's cfw destruction, than sony is about countering our progress. They're dedicated, but they're retarded, really.
mattc41 just got his ass handed to him
yep if they wanna do this then ill just start downloading iso's again.
i thought the same thing, but im sure we could explore this iso files and change it so it wont delete our files.
60 bucks for one xbox is too much. but i guess it does take alot of time and effort to develope...
bitTorrent, limewire, and also all the hundreds of iso sites out there....come on dude, patapon had like over 300,000 thousand downloads like the first month it was released.
it wasnt an exact quote lol but they do legally have the right to do it, but i still think its bull
its called a "sony" psp not a "your name here" psp, i said it before and ill say it again, i think its bull but its sony's right, just use this plu-in and ull be fine
But you have to think of the logic, yes, unathorized deletion of file WOULD be considered a trojan, it is a preventitive measure agenst piracy. I mean, who is gonna go to sony and say, "Hey, you cant delete my iso, even if i pirated it and uploaded it to the internet.", yes some people actualy baught the game and use the iso as slower loading times, better portability, ect, but for the few others who decide to pirate, they ruin it for us all, because if there was no pirates, we could use our psp's legitamety without the sony vs. cfw/piracy debate, and i hope freeplay is reading this, as the comment he made above is a sort of, low blow.
If you have CFW you pirate games. Don't be a super geek and say "Oh the UMD is to loud or uses to much battery". You have CFW you pirate games plain and simple. Quit effing crying were all stealing the games anyways.( All 5 of the good ones)
Most of you guys are complete morons. Sony is not the ones deleting files, it's game developers.
These anti-piracy measures were implemented precisely because of pirates like you, and to teach those evil guys at Sony a lesson, you're going to... not buy games and continue pirating them?
Whatever, pirates.
I haven't researched but I don't believe there's such thing as deleting a file. First it's not even "Sony"s fault since all they do is firmware. If it's when in game mode then that means the GAME is the one that's deleting the files... Not to mention I've never experienced such thing. And if it was an act to stop piracy I think it's the most ridiculous idea yet. Also ISOs as of a while ago have been illegal even if you own the original copy... this of course was made to "discourage" piracy.
As for my personal opinion if you're a pirate or if you're using a backup in makes no difference that Sony should not meddle with piracy since Sony and game companies don't have a real strong connection in sales in fact if more people buy a PSP to pirate Sony would sell more, even if the game companies don't. The only bad side to that is that game companies will be discouraged to make games but if we get a better commnuity homebrew can replace games.
