Huh??? - Image 1Huh??? - Image 2

We would now like to take to take this opportunity to ask all of you to please check out the two images below. In fact, we encourage you to view the pictures in their original 1280x960 resolution, just so you can see what we're talking about.

Do you see it?

Anyway, these photos were sent to us by one of our readers, Geno, and he notes that these were taken at this year's CES floor. They found Sony's PSP booth, and while looking at the displays, decided that they liked their own handhelds better. And to prove it, they took these pictures.

On a lighter note though, Geno says that these pics are "Just a little 'thank you' from us to Dark_aleX and pspupdates for bringing so much information to the masses."

Thanks for the pics, Geno! We're pretty sure DAX appreciates it, too. :D

# Holy Crap!Guest 2007-01-11 14:50
This is the weirdest thing ever...

There's no possible way someone could have downgraded the PSP and then upgrade to 3.03 OE-A..so it MUST have been Sony!

Why the hell?!

Look at the name on the second pic. Why would Sony name it that?

Well, considering the fact that this guy is in the settings, I would believe that someone just went into the settings and changed it to that. Not that hard to do.

# rightGuest 2007-01-11 14:53
well the first picture you cant even read much less see anything, the second coudl simpley be someone elses psp. not that i dont think some emplyee from sony woudl do that to there psp, though those pictures dont really exactgly show any proof or anything.

# Well...Zak1392 2007-01-11 14:55
Couldn't somebody just bring in their own memory card and install it on the PSPs?

# I think it's FakeGuest 2007-01-11 14:55
Now that I think about it...if it WAS in fact a PSP that was being displayed at the PSP Booth..wouldn't it be attached to a stand or something? They wouldn't just leave one laying around on a table for anyone to just pick up.

Reply

# Yeah, they are.Guest 2007-01-11 14:59
Other reasons they are fake:

1) Sony has no need for the firmware.

2) Those PSP's are barely attached to anything.

3) Url in the bottom corner.

# fakeGuest 2007-01-11 14:59
the first picture is so small but if you magnify it in photoshop you can tell, they photoshopped it. and did a lousy job so they simpley made the picture small.

second can be any joes psp, like someone else said no security device on it. right. lol funny some believed it was true.

# Another pointZak1392 2007-01-11 15:00
Notice how the PSPs aren't attached to the table like that one PSP. Most likely just somebody's own PSP.

Reply

# My guess.Guest 2007-01-11 15:00
Personally, I think it's because they wanted to show off the emulation capability of the PSP, but didn't want to bother with making 'official' eboots of games other than the ones they have released thus far; so it was easier to just slap 3.03 OE on some of the display consoles.

# yea seriouslythyvillageidiot 2007-01-11 15:16
if you look at the first picture, the one in the middle has a cord attached to it (probably the one at the booth). sadly, the version is virtually unreadable.

then the 2nd one as aDcOoL mentioned, is certainly NOT sony's (because there's no security chain).

sure, i'd be nice if sony would open up to homebrew, but why would they change now?

If you look you can see that they just took a picture of there System Information, and the showed the picture on Sony's PSPs. Just look at the PSP on the left in the 1st picture, then look at the PSP in the 2nd pic.

Reply

# .......are you sure?Guest 2007-01-11 15:29
Are you sure that those are Sony's PSPs and not someone who brought their PSP that uses the custom firmware and then took a pic of it? Because that's what it looks like. Hence the "f u sony" as the nickname.

I mean, is there proof that these are Sony PSPs? And if they aren't, then what's so cool about someone who uses homebrew going to CES and taking a picture of their PSP?

# Sony wasn't using this firmwareGuest 2007-01-11 15:29
Hey guys, I'm sorry if I wasn't clear about those shots, but the ones WITH 3.03 OE-A or B were ours being held up against the ones that were on the show floor. They (Sony) had theirs loaded up with the official 3.02 firmware though. The joke was in the first picture as some have realized. The one with all 3 is just a side by side of the custom FW's with the official ones right next to it.

So no, Sony was NOT using custom firmware on their models at CES. They WERE, however, showing the fan made advertisement that was seen here recently on that screen you will see in the first shot. I wasn't aware that Sony had struck up a deal with the creator of it to be shown pubicly as their own advertisement.

This is embarrassing to explain and hopefully gets changed as I don't want you guys catching any heat for spreading false information.

# logicGuest 2007-01-11 16:05
if you click on the picture and enlarge it, you can clearly see that the middle psp (one with cord) only has 3 digits, and with basic logic that proves that its not the custom firmware that they say it is. So the person that wrote the article should have actually looked at these pictures before just post a false claim with pictures that don't back them up

no. if you look at the pictures, the one psp with the anti-theft cable attached (the middle psp in the first picture) has regular firmware. the 3.03 OE - A firmwares belong to the people taking the pictures.

I guess its just amusing to show off your home-brewed-up psp's around the sony booth, to show people what its CAPABLE of that sony refuses to allow people to do with it

I can very well understand why many of you hate Sony so much, but geez there's gotta be a limit?! "F**k you Sony" ?

Sure they are not perfect and always try to make us update. For what? To prevent thousands of those pirating their software, depriving them of a healthy profit. No wonder PSP sales lag so much behind. SURE, if you say so you're not one of them.

C'mon guys, Sony gave us the bloody PSP! With nifty features, PS1 emulation and great games. It's a beautiful and very capable handheld. I'm all for the homebrew scene, but cut that rebel bullsh*t.

I'm no representative of Sony. I'm as frustrated at them about the PS3 as anyone, but there is a limit to absurd amount of hate thrown back at them.

You can keep the hate thoughts to yourselves, but show them appreaciation, by buying games. So they can make an even better PSP and release more great titles. That's all.

Peace!

I don't understand why an entire page have to be filled with "I think it's fake"/"it's real"/"sony supports homebrew?". It clearly says in the article that some people who have custom firmwares went to the sony booth and felt that they liked their own PSPs better (because they have DAX's 3.03 OE installed, unlike the ones sony shows which have the official crap)

The middle PSP on the first one is Sony's, hence the security cable, running 3.02. The other 2 belong to the guys there, which have DAX custom firmware.

In the second pic, it's one of the guys PSP's again, not Sony's.

Is it really that hard to understand you f**kheads...

of course you know that a lot lot reader dont really understand what they read, its proven on so many post ive read. the title means - homebrewers brought their psp on the CES sony floor show and took pictures of their psp (3.03oe_a) together with official sony PSP's on booth.

its bravery and flattery and downright disturbing for sony though.

# HEY PEOPLE!isti 2007-01-13 10:51
We should really really stop with these "***** you Sony" comments..

Some people forgetting who developed the PSP..

And Sony didn't developed it for us.. but for the profit..

not even homebrew is free!

you pay nothing that's right.. but homebrew developers pay the price instead of you, by spending their own money, and most important, their own time..

so sure we can be very thankful to Sony for creating the PSP, and sure we should support the homebrew developers for extending the PSP's capabilities the smart way..

btw.. a wriststrap like that would only come off with your wrist dear GnomeTryouts.. :D
