XMB themes have been flooding us for the past couple of days. Who said one more would hurt? For some of you, checking out new themes on the front page every day is like taking your vitamins - heck, can someone attach an IV on my PSP for these stuff? With that said, what do we have in store today? xploren tipped us of and diverted our attention to his black32 XMB theme package.
Let us emphasize that: package. xploren compiled a collection of various XMB theme elements from his and other people's makings, and has released this for everyone's enjoyment. Currently, black32 is bumped up to version encore1 and includes a custom battery icon and a loading circle. Now, the Academy goes to:
- theme set by xploren
- icons by innercy
- volume and battery icons by Hooverphonic (MaDSouL)
- loading circle by [Unknown]
- background by [Unknown]
- wave by xploren

dat is one of the badizzt azz XMB waves ive ever seen! im using it right now! with a black background im on 3.10 OE A so i cant use the 01-12.bmp or the topmenu_plugin.rco so i just painted my 01-12.bmp all black and i must say it looks damn good

Buuuut, doesn't this contradict the point of a custom XMB?
doesnt the background work (not the top menu) with 3.10?
everytime i flash the 01-12.bmp
my background is white i can't get the background to work with 3.10oe-a
but to answer your question the 3.10 oe 01-12.bmp consist of 12 merged bmp files with a res of 60x34 and an extra 1kb hexed onto the end of each obviously the bmp included in this pack is not that.... but my theory is if they are all exactly the same size and merged we can have a perfect 480x272 01-12.bmp without the farked up icons but even if this works we'll have a size issue

3.10 OE-A cannot be modified as yet. I'm planning to downgrade to 3.03 OE just for this reason, though.
Apparently the backgrounds work.
Forgot to add this to the readme.... I'll add it to the next one. ;) For now, here's how to install:
1. Turn off your PSP completely (hold power switch for 2-3 seconds).
2. Turn it back on again after a second or two WHILE HOLDING THE R BUTTON.
3. Connect your USB cable from your PSP to your comp, and go to Advanced in your recovery menu.
4. Select the flash0 option.
5. Open the Removable Disk folder in My Computer.
6. Go to /vsh/resource/ and flash all the stuff in the package.
7. Done! Enjoy!
This will work on all OE firmwares EXCEPT 3.10 OE! We have yet to make mods compatible with 3.10 OE. IF you want to use this, I suggest you downgrade to 3.03 OE-C.
my experiment was a flop still got the messed up corrupt icons but if you want here is a 01-12.bmp with a black background in it i replaced one of the purples with a all black backround and yes it will work with 3.10 OE A it looks good with that wave up there

when i try to move any of the other files into the resource folder is tells me the there no space or some ***** like that mean while i have like a gig of space any 1 know how to fix that
reboot your psp and hold R you will go to recovery mode then go to advanced--->toggle usb(flash0)
Once you are connected you will see it pop up on your PC them go to the vsh/resource folder. Once tehr just drag and drop. if it says not enough space you will need to free up some space.

Thanks for the steps, ive waited awhile for all the comotion to settle down on these icon/wave/background mods before diving in.
Looks great, i had the white background problem but I changed my theme settings and got it all working fine. Did some backups of the overwritten files incase of any problems or need to go back to default so I know I wont run into any problems.

Okay, the installation guide goes for all of the mods. Your flash has limited space, so you need to remove some stuff from your flash. Be careful, though. Use something like Flash Agent or go to this thread:

I followed the instructions. THERE IS NO FLASH0 option in my recovery mode. I've checked under all the menus, nothing! Someone please provide me a link to download the latest recovery pack and kindly explain how I'm supposed to flash this custom pack. Thanks!
Luke, you are killing me. You are killing everyone. Swivel that head bud. There are detailed instructions on how to flash this just above your third request. If you are having a problem please be more specific.
On that note, I have a question. If running 3.10 OE, can I flash the wave only and leave eveything else the same?
Just wondering if there's any way I can only change the background and wave and keep everything else the same? It seems as though when I only replace the 1-12.bmp and the system_plugin_b g.pmf and don't touch anything else, most of the icons are all messed up. Any way around this? The install was easy(just copy the files to vsh/resource). But I got scared when my backround got white, but I changed the settings in themes and it looks great now!

Use Flash Agent F4 (Google it). It's very easy to use. The theme works perfectly and looks sexy as f*ck!

The topmenu_plugin.rco and 01-12.bmp images cannot be installed, but everything else can it seems. Doesnt complete the package, but the wave background is nice to have, along with the new battery and volume icons, but those stand out too much being black. Whatever, im sure they will figure somehting out.

u probably didn't put the files in the right place
just because u have a gig of space doesn't mean u have a gig of space on ur flash0.. u only have like 20mb... get rid of the web browser.. thats what i did
You DONT have a gig of space on your FLASH0 - maybe you do on your MS
download the file Luke and read the readme that should inform you
Everything will work on 3.10 OE, except for the topmenu_plugin.rco. which is the icons.
Use Flash Agent to clear up some space. It'll clear up 2.5 MB

So many noobs here.... okay, here, I'll tell you one thing. Version encore3 will have a full-fledged guide on how to install these and will tell you which .rco's will do what, and so fotrth and so on. Either sign up at http://forums.qj.net and go to the Forum Discussion Thread link on the news article and ask your questions there if you need help or wait for the next release.
hey im a bigginer at this, but what do u need to do to add this black32 XMB theme on my psp
Okay, I'll give them credit for the new wave but the background isn't new. They took the black background and the green and blue waves from Windows Vista Ultimate. About a week ago I went to Costco and I saw Windows Vista upgrades. And the box for the Windows Vista Ultimate has the exact same black background with the green and blue lines.
it sucks.

I have 3.03 OE-A yet when i go into recovery and into advanced there is no toggleUSB Flash(0) option to be able to access teh vsh/resource folder, anyone got any ideas on how to solve this?
i realise that i need a custom firmware for this, I am using firmware 2.81 at the moment and am working on downgrading so i can get a custom one but for the moment, does anyone know anything cool I can download for my psp that i can use with my current firmware?
The Installation is pretty easy considering i am a total n00b!...*Start the hate mail*..But i did notice that after i did this my POPs does not load,UMD game has scattered text"Monster Hunter", and will load or not load a UMD game...Has anyone else noticed this?
Anyways, for all of you people trying to install this but getting a white background instead of the sweet one, your problem is that you need to set your theme to the default one, and everything will work perfectly- :)
this theme isnt that good compared to the vista theme pack for psp....you actually get icons and not just this black thing. but i like the background and wave so i kept that. so i say good job on that. and it works no prob on 3.03 oe-c.
