Al-Quran for PSP - Image 1

Some of you guys may be familiar with QJ forum member Momochi Zabuza for releasing Al-Quran for PSP that allows our Muslim brothers to bring a good resource on Islam in their pockets. For those who enjoyed this nifty app, it might do you good to know that version 1.1 is out.

Taken from the Readme file, the cache has improved this time around. There's still a minor problem that would freeze everything, but that only happens after 30-40 pages of browsing. A page search function was also added for everyone's convenience.

To make Al-Quran run, here are the instructions from the Readme:
  1. Don't change any filename or folder name
  2. Enable PSP Adobe Flash Player
  3. Use internet browser in the PSP to run the application
  4. Copy all the files to the memory stick's root folder. For those with Al-Quran v1.0, you have to replace the holdaya.swf with the new one inside the update and delete the old qpsp1.swf.
  5. Enter file:/psp-alquran/qpsp.swf on the address bar
As for the controls, use the analog stick as mouse and cross/circle button as mouse button. For more info, just check out the Readme file. Existing Al-Quran users can update to v1.1 by downloading the update file. Otherwise, get the full version.

Like the bible, it was written and edited by ordinary men. It's possible to believe in God or a higher power without believing words written by humans. All organized religion is crap.

I think this is great for the PSP community as a whole. Regardless of what religion you may or may not be, this just expands the many uses of the PSP and members of the PSP community should be thrilled that there are individuals finding a new way to utilize our beloved handheld.....

Religiously speaking, to Rothes who said it was written by ordinary men, The Quran is said to be the word of God, dictated through the Angel Gabriel to Prophet Muhammed. Now I'm not Muslim, but you should either research before you state false information, or just dont state anything at all : )

» Nice idea

Seriously, the Koran isn't the problem with fundamentalist Islam. Just like those racist, Bible-thumping hicks that run the country aren't real Christians, terrorists aren't real Muslims. The Koran, Bible, and Tanakh all have some pretty vile stuff in them mixed in with the good. That's why G-d gives us brains, to take the good but leave the bad. To become a student of scripture, rather than a blind believer. To listen to our conscience, rather than take a book or preacher at face value. Someone who carries the Quran around on their PSP has a high likelihood of being a real student who wants to study religion on their own, rather than just believe some insane mullah who says "Go kill Jews and Christians."

I'm not a Muslim, but I do support the efforts to port religious content to the PSP. The more people in the scene, the better. And I'd think our community could rise above petty political issues and religious intolerance (unless you're a Scientologist, in which case you should get some help).

by McSpitfire - 2007-07-03 19:46

Like others who have commented on this article, I am not Muslim. However, this is a good idea for Muslims who can't carry the actual Koran with them because of inconvience or other reasons.

Not a single word of the Quran has been edited to this date. You can compare a 14th century Quran with one you can buy at the shops, you won't find a difference. Stop making ignorant claims.

» Ok

For the most part, I'm proud of the sensibility shown by people who responded to this article, especially as even the most insensitive topics on this site get flamed with unnecessary comments.

Now I'm not a practising Muslim, but this app gives me the option to read it on the go as I haven't really had the chance. I think anyone with an open mind should read it, before passing judgements.

Terrorists don't represent a religion but their own fanatical ideology. God does not tell you to kill innocent people, whether you are an invading army or militants. It's by denouncing them as non-representative of any faith and enemies of humanity we can fight extremism.

by metalspector - 2007-07-04 05:12
» yeah

Few extremest religious cults don't represent the whole religion. For the ignorant americans, remember the KKK? They were actually a religious protestant group accepted by many. I personally think the christian extremist have been the worst.

And why would you disable comments? This is a piece of software just like any other and as such should be open to comment. Personally I won't use it, but there are people who will and thats what comments are there for, to make sure the software works and what not to save people the hassle of downloading it if doesn't work.

If it's because you are afraid of someone offending you, then I suggest turning off your modem now and not turn it back on.

Scientology isn't a religion.. and also they copywrite thier works. Any group who says they are a religious group and copyrights whatever they believe is NOT a religious group at all. All they are are greedy money grabbers out for thier own interests.

» Not a Muslim

Nor am I a believer of any faith, I am in fact an athiest and a student in history. I do however read various bibles from time to time to get a better understanding of a particular religion before commenting. Thats why I have downloaded this. Generally religious texts outside your own society are not easy to get without going out of your way to get them, this is a great idea. I have various incarnations of bibles from a lot of faiths within my psp. I look for differences as well as, ultimately similarities. I wish others would take to time to educate themselves before commenting and not believing everything they read on the net from some morons blog.

BTW, good show on allowing comments. From what I see, the intelligent are keeping things on topic. Maybe in future you'll trust us as a community to be intelligent enough to handle a topic such as this.

Good day.

by Mr X - 2007-07-04 21:41
» good idea, but research need to be made..

i'm a malay muslim from malaysia.

firstly, i need to congratulate to this particular person who have the innovative, crea tive & brave idea to carry this invention into reality. Alhamdullilah.

secondly, just ignore all the meaningless comments made by those who dislikes muslim for being concern to his/her own ummah. we know who we are, we respect other religions/ethnicity as well as their right to practice it. we urge others to do good and repel bad/unneeded stuff.

might as to go to the straight point.

the idea of making/realising Al-Quran (Koran) into digital form is widely encouraged throughout the world. this prove that muslims aren't afraid or the the notion of globalisation. just one step ahead for the world to accepted 'most of muslims community' into their vast field of information technolgy.

in malaysia, the idea of having Al-Quran applicated into a digital gadget has long be done before. it sort of like a digital dictionary with the only differences it has output in form of audio. so us muslim can pronounced the tajwid (grammar, sort of) and meaning efficiently. most of the digital Al-Quran do provide the translations in various languages.

but there's also weaknesses in having this portable Al-Quran everywhere. most of us know.. to recite Al-Quran, a muslim should be in a proper (clean and holy) condition.. and the Al-Quran is restricted to be in an unclean location toilet, wastage area, nightclubs & etc.. or even in your pocket ! since the original practiced of booked Al-Quran should be in a clean and proper state.

REMINDER !!

Al-Quran actually is not originally in the form of tome(book) contained arabic texts but all of it is by Allah(god).

As quoted by the user - Savage.

"The Quran is said to be the word of God, dictated through the Angel Gabriel to Prophet Muhammed".

dude, you are so true. so Prophet Muhammad s.a.w memorized it (without any difficulties although himself wasn't a scholar of literature), and he passed the verses of Al-Quran towards his followers until the time of his death. most of the followers are fallen in jihad (Holy war in agreement with the Shari'ah: only undertaken when the faith is threatened and at the approval of a religious authority such as a mullah, though this is a difficult distinction), so the idea of keeping the verses of Al-Quran into an easier and portable way of memorizing it.. is by tranforming it into a form of what we called it book or tome.

anyway, sorry for making any of you reading this without wasting your time. i think it's worthwhile making any of you understands more about Islam,Muhammed and Al-Quran.

Assalamualaikum ( may peace be upon you ).

» Hmm...well

According to Islamic Practices dating back to the earliest of times of its inception it is the responsibility of every muslim to conquer others and spread their faith, it is actually written in the Koran, whether this is metophorical or literal remains open for debate, but in the past although less barbaric then the Christians they did take this to mean CONQUER literally.

As far as terrorism goes, war is terrorism but with a bigger budget as the saying goes. The fanatics wouldn't be using terrorism if they could afford and possibily win a war, don't kid yourselves.
