AFKIM v2 Released - Away From Keyboard Instant Messenger

Danzel has finally released the 2nd version of his AFKIM (Away From Keyboard Instant Messenger). AFKIM is an instant messenger for almost all the major IM protocols, including AIM, ICQ, MSN, Google Talk and Yahoo! Recently, Danzel has won the NeoFlash Spring Coding Competition with this homebrew. Cheers to Danzel!

As we reported before, Danzel has been working on a new OSK (on-screen keyboard). Now this OSK has got the name "Danzeff", and tends to help you with a better input experience than the original p_sprint OSK. However, you can still switch back to the old one if you really want to. Here are more details of this version:

New Graphics, complete new style :)
New keyboard (Danzeff, see Danzeff.txt for usage information)
You can rename contacts.
Less crashes! (maybe! lol)
Works on the new eloader!
Contact list scrolls automatically.
New msg popup.
When logging into wifi/bitlbee there is more feedback

How to use the Danzeff OSK

The Danzeff keyboard is an OSK, mainly controlled by the analog stick.

Use the analog stick to select which square to chose from, and then press the button (X O [] /\) in the direction of the letter you want to input.

To switch into numbers mode Tap the L Shoulder.
To get capital Letters hold the R shoulder while in letters input.
To get a complete set of extra characters, hold down R shoulder while in numbers mode.

Other special keys:
Digital down -> enter
Digital up -> delete
Digital left -> move left
Digital right -> move right
Select -> menu in AFKIM
Start -> switch from chat to contacts list in AFKIM

Note: You will need the latest eLoader which makes WiFi possible on all the PSP versions to run AFKIM v2 on your 2.00+ PSP.

i logged in using MSN, then I logged in to yahoo, but i think both accounts got muddleup on my screen..cos i could see a mixture of my msn friends + my yahoo friends... and i didnt know who i was talkin to for a bit, then i got some reply from someone on my list but i wasnt sure who it was...cos it didnt highlight a name or anything...arrhhh

if it freezes when you try to make an account make sure u aren't using a manually configured interenet connection on your psp u have to use an automatic one. if u don't know how to make an automatic one then go to network settings, choose infrastructure, then choose create new conection, then name it whatever, scan for an access point, put in you WEP password, if u have one. then choose easy under adress setting. then when u start up afkim choose the connection u just created and it should work now. nice work Danzel i love AFKIM and WEBNAB keep up the good work.

#8 - strange, check the server window, perhaps you got your details wrong?

#12 - people are highlighted in purple if they have sent you a msg, look through your list for one.

#14/16/17/19/21 - need more info.

are you on 2.6, if you are you need to set a DHCP (automatic network settings configuration) to get it to work.

#15 - it should work on both

#22 - you probably have your username/password wrong, of you are still running msn somewhere else.

Check the server window for details.

#23 - huh? you don't go to any websites to set afkim up!

#24 - power it off, or to make sure you sign out immediately, go to the server window and say "account off"

I don't know if im just not doing it right or what but when i change the danzeff keyboard to psprint it doesn't seem to work. I get logged in and all but when i go to chat with someone it freezes and crashes. So i dunno... either I am doing something wrong or maybe its a problem with version 2.6?

Besides that, this is truely the best homebrew app! (excluding Bock eloader which allows me to use it lol)

I cant even sign in with 2.6. It wants me to create a new account since I havent even been on this before, when I try, it does the connecting, connected, identifying thing, then freezes there. I've even tried what people said and did automatic settings for my connection. I made a new connection and everything, but no matter what I do, it freezes.

My hat goes off to you danzel. Excellent app and excellent job. This really is one of the most practical apps out there. The older version froze on me every now and then but this update runs like butter all the time. Keep up the good work!

after putting in my username and password, it just says resolving, nothing happens after that. do i have to put something in the bitlbee.cfg file for it to connect properly? i have tried to connect to the net through tenchu browser to make sure that i can connect properly and was able to. my configuration is all automatic and no WEP (to make sure that there are no conflicts with the proggy) TIA.

to put in custom background go to the afkim folder, then go to pics and open up the file called bg in paint then edit from there. I put my custom background in the message box and added the text "buddy list" to the bottom of the body list box. it's cool, you can edit it any way you want. enjoy
