3.40 Fix to LOLstation - POPS Fix

It should be remembered that when DAX released 3.30 Open Edition Revision A, homebrew developer Pharonyk provided a fix to his LOLstation - POPS Fix to make it compatible with the new custom firmware. As you all know, there's now 3.40 OE-A. So what do you think Pharonyk just did?

Yep, the QJ.Net Forum resident developer just provided another fix to the application so that 3.40 CFW users can join the fun. Basically, LOLstation - POPS Fix will flash two files to your flash0 to allow you to have a custom boot and play PSX games. This is needed because having a custom "opening_plugin.rco" would interfere with your PSP POPStation.

Now, the 3.40 fix goes directly in the "lolstation" folder to replace the existing file "game_plugin.prx". Once that's done, you shouldn't worry about anything because Pharonyk made sure that all necessary files have been backed up. Just be sure though that you have free space in your flash0 (space in memory stick isn't counted).

Lastly, please read first the accompanying Readme file for further information as well as the forum thread for discussions. You are all aware that there is always a risk of bricking your PlayStation Portable (PSP) whenever you flash any kind of file.

ok, here it goes. As you know, the official sony firmware offers purchase and download of psx games through connectivity of ps3 and whatnot.

There was an app released to convert your own library of ps1 cds to pops, to be played on the psp hassle free.

When DAX released 3.30 oe-a, something was changed by sony in the firmware that prevented this.

then some dude named pharonyk came along and released a way to fix this problem. aka "LOLstation"

this is just his second release for the 3.40 OE-A custom firmware which has the same problem

Is it kind of a stant aone emulator with a menu or can you just use it to patch your psp and then you can put psx games in the game folder and play from the menu like before?

you can play PSX games freely without this app

and they run even better than on 3.10 and 3.03 ,i mean some bugs were fixed

and there is no standalone normally-working ps1 emu for psp,it's just built in

what about this app,there was a thing that could run 3.02 or 3.03 psx-emu version on 3.10 for example (cuz some games ran better on previous firmwares,like ff7 had a bug with screen-swirl on battle) but this thing stopped working on 3.30 and now guys released a new version for new OE

Yes u can play ps1 games without this but!!!!!! if u want a custom boot you will have some issues if u do not have this installed.

That's as easy as I can explain it.. basically if u customize your PSP get this, if u don't.. don't worry about it.

so, i installed this and everything seems cool

but I noticed that as soon as I did, the branding came back on my gameboot.

so I ran Flash Agent again and the unbranding procedure and it completes successfully... but when I actually launch a game, it is still branded.

any work around? i would like both PSX compatibility AND an unbranded gameboot, optimally.

the psp's psx game player also known as POPs has some information stored inside a file in the psp's firmware called opening_plugin.rco. This file also contains the coldboot (the SCE logo and stuff when you hard reset the psp). However, modifying this file so you can say have custom coldboot will break POPs and you cant play psx games. this problem has been around ever since 3.02 OE came out. what this app does is create two opening_plugin.rco files. one that is used solely to run PSX games and one that contains the coldboot. Therefore you can customize your coldboot without breaking POPs.

I dont get it. PSX games work perfect in 3.40 OE-A. as soon as i installed the firmware on mine and my bros psp all psx games we play [over 80 or so] worked perfectly. most games that DIDNT work before, work now. so why would i use this LOLStation thing for? thats what i dont get. psx games HAVE ALWAYS worked fine on 3.x firmwares. so i guess my question is, WHAT does lolstation do exactly? cuzz it damn sure isnt for making psx games work on 3.40, as they already do.

This app is not for fixing the popsloader that comes along with the fw. it's used to fix the game_plugin.prx.

if u hav any custom opening_plugin.rco and u tried to flash it into f0 > vsh >resource, all yr ps1 eboot will be unplayable. yr xmb will freeze.

so pharonyk came out with this great app. he edited the game_plugin.prx fix the ps1 loading to be successful in 3.40oe.

This is for those who like custom opening_plugin.rco(eg: when u reboot psp, and u hear window startup sound) and yet compatible with ps1 loader.

THAT'S WHY IT'S CALLED POPS Fix FOR 3.40 Fix. :)

flash agent only debrand yr opening_plugin( the custom one). whereas loading iso or ps1 now is controlled by 0pening_plugin.

opening_plugin - for custom booting feature when psp reboot

0pening_plugin - to start yr game (provided by the decrypted game_plugin.prx)

holy *****, so that's the solution to my problem. Updated to 3.40 and i was glad to finally be able to change my xmb only to realize suddenly psx didn't work... Semi-bricked my psp a couple of times in the process of finding a cure.. Never knew there was a fix for it. Thank you google and thanks the developer for this :-)

My psp is in recovery mode as i type this. Hopefully this was the last semi-brick ;-P
