Sony: Firmware 3.11 out now!Homebrew Scene: Oh really? What now?
Sony: Why are you not upgrading yet?
Homebrew Scene: Because we are going to crack it, noob!
And indeed, firmware 3.11 has been cracked. Well, not fully but it has been decrypted. After all, this is always the first step. What's more amazing is that, Team C+D didn't even have to come up with a new program. The same decrypter that was used for 3.10 was found to be working as well for the new firmware.
But for the benefit of those who missed the fun the last time around, we listed again the things you need to do. But on second thought, who could have missed it? Because we're telling you, we wouldn't miss it for the world. Anyway, enough chatter, here's the step by step process:
- To dump the firmware open up the Eboot with psp brew or PBP unpacker
- Extract the DATA.PSAR to the root of your memory stick.
- Copy psar_dump2 and psar_dump2% to your GAME150 folder. (Or whatever you kernel is set to)
- Launch it from the game menu.
- Select what option you wish to have. Then it will dump the contents to the root of your memory stick.

Not even a non-homebrew user would mind spending 20mb to download a firmware that contains, well, here it is: SONY PSP FIRMWARE 3.11 whats changed since 3.10, list: ONE bugfix that has already been solved in 3.10 OE-A' ... AND THE BEST OF ALL --- NOTHING ELSE. SONY, simply dont continue to release these crapy firmwares, without any new features. hey doesn't anybody find it strange that they released a firmware with one fix, and It's is able to be downgraded by the old app. for 3.10. I think Sony is purposely doing it because on 3.10 you can no longer use an app. to change your xmb icons you can only hex edit and not everybody knows how to do that. I think Sony is slowly but surely stopping home brew. Just a thought...

Sony released this to fix a problem that was found with R-Types (a game available on the Playstation Store) on 3.10. That's it. That's all. Sony honestly does not give a ***** about people with hacked firmwares. They don't care about homebrew stuff. There are only two things they care about - protecting the average user from running a malicious program that simply erases the flash and leaves them with a brick and protecting their licensees from having their games pirated. Both of them make sense. So really, all this "OMG, SONY PWND AGAIN" ***** is completely retarded. This site is nothing but 10 year old children, I swear.

Home brew actually gives you the ability to pirate games, so technically every time some one gains the ability to have home brew Sony potentially loses money. So now, how exactly is home brew of no concern to them???

I couldn't have put it better myself. Personally, I love all the mature 'Sony pwned' comments. They really add some much needed intelligence to the site. Without Sony they wouldn't even have a PSP, the knobs. I suggest they keep their comments to theirselves and stick to playing the one string banjo in your room in their mothers' house. Let's see... in last few weeks Sony released 3 new versions... what did they have new ?... YES EXACTLY!! NOTHING AT ALL!!! Now Sony focuses on making new encryption method and tries to stop something unstoppable... Dark_Alex and Team C+D will always decrypt latest firmware, if they won't then Noobz will, there are a lot of talented programmers, they are good at it and they are doing it for free!! It's like charity :> but i got off topic a bit. No matter the firmware, someone will crack it sooner or later. If sony just let it go... i mean why do they keep updating flaws in their PSP when every one is cracked ?

If it can be decrypted using the same decryptor, then it seems that Sony didnt even attempt to add new security features. I know its highly unlikely, but maybe Sony's beginning to accept the homebrew scene for what it is. Or maybe Sony fixed the bug there was on one of their ps1 games which is also a good thing because it shows that Sony cares about fixing up and adding new features as opposed to trying to stop homebrew.

I think that C + D is doing one hell of a good job, but *****, all i wanna do is play zelda, metroid and excitebike (awesome game) and a few other select titles. does anyone have instructions on how to take my 3.11 (yes, i know i f***** up with the sony update) 1001PSP and make it so that I can play some damn emulators on it? Step by steps and detailed walkthroughs appreciated. URL's to these and/or DL programs that might even do it for me would be great. If there is anyone who is willing to help please repost on here with info (not only for me but for the rest of the morons like me that are trying to figure this whole flashing thing out for the first time ... remember, you were new to this at one time too :) ). so this thing really doesnt work for me, i tried it on 3.10 everytime it gives me 8002014C error saying the game cant be started, im thinking of trying to update to 3.11 to do so. And also i just wnat to know what is the importance of this, does it mean you can downgrade from 3.11 or does it just mean the files are open and someone needs to make a downgrader?? cause really why would i care about CFW 3.10 OEA if i cant use it at all anyways. im so frustrated right now... :(
has anyone else ever thought that the homebrew community is helping sony beat out nintendo's wii? think about it. a great deal of people who run homebrew also pirate nintendo games using emulators that would otherwise have to be bought from the wii store. the only reason they release new firmwares is to avoid lawsuits. all in all, the whole "sony pwned" idea is really dumb. theyre a multi-billion dollar company, yet most of the posters in here think theyre incapable of hiring more-than-decent coders. long live the psp
Stop bashing Sony for releasing 3.11, just because you lot think it just contains security patches isn't true. All 3.11 is for is to fix a little bug in the PS1 emulation. That's it! It wasn't meant to be some super serious update, why do you think they basically left all the encryption exactly the same? The exact same decrypter was used on 3.11 as 3.10. No change whatsoever. And all that changed to decrypt 3.10 was a simple hex key change from 3.03. Do you all honestly think $ony is actually trying here?

If you've noticed the higher the firmware version jumps between updates, the more of an update it is. From 3.10 to 3.11 it's not much. When they want to come out with a real update it will have real security. 3.11 is basically 3.10 with a bugfix, that's why it can be decrypted. If Sony does come out with a REAL update and that gets cracked, I'm sure some people will get fired =P (not that some haven't already)

Dear Sony Associates and Representatives, I have been reading up on the web that there are emulators [Nintendo on PSP] and other programs that better your experience for the PSP, that is, to your consumers. Now to get to the point, You guys have been making updates for the PSP about once a month. Everytime, it makes it harder for people to get into the PSP and put programs into it. You guys always brag about "BEST CONSUMER SATISFACTION". Well, all of those people out there that want to take the chance to "brick" their PSP, just to get a cool program on there, let them take the chance. As you know, I am telling YOU the cold, hard truth. I am displeased with you guys, as with thousands of other PSP owners. You guys should make an OPTIONAL update for PSP owners that is not on the "network update", but have to go on the web, and before downloading it, tell them it will have the features of 3.11, but with the "homebrew" capabilities for 1.0 and 1.5. Tell them that it is NOT your responsibility for damage to the PSP, or any other flaws inflicted onto the PSP by the original owner. I am telling you, if you do this, your customer satisfaction rate will go up drastically. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ This part wasn't in the letter, but, i know i am a noob, so plz dont comment on it. i just downgraded 3.03 to 1.5 last night, aand thats all i have done.

In my opinion cracked firmwares just a good thing... For everyone... For homebrew users: Possibility to play new original releases. For Sony it means more sales for homebrew users, who play originals. (only talking about homebrew users here) Homebrew capable firmware - some play warez, some play originals. Non-homebrew capable firmware - no-one plays anything new, as it would require bricking PSP to homebrewless. (ok, or modchip)
It's not actually very surprising that a 311.pbp renamed to 310.pbp would show up as invalid in the upgrader. D_A (and other non-stupid developers) would surely *at least* check the hash of an eboot before flashing it.

I have a PSP. PSP stands for Portable Sony Playstation. I have lots of .cso games and I have a fun time playing it of my memory stick. I want the 8 gb pro duo stick :-( N\/idia are working on a graphics card to be built in the next gen PSP. I got banned in counter strike: source for hacking. My computer sux and I'm getting a new one soon. The PSP is cool. I'm like watching Heroes at McDonalds and all the noobs are like, sick! I'm like yeah, It's a Portable Sony Playstation. It was only a bugfix for one or two games, wich crashed, but Dark_AleX has already fixed that in 3.10 OE-A' that makes Dark_AleX and the whole homebrew community bigger than sony.

Lol all of you sdfu. You're all saying exactly the same thing. So what its been decrypted? Nothing special since the prog that was used to decrypt 3.10 decrypted this one. Sony never got PWNED at all. Think about it. They still have money and are still going strong so how have they been Pwnt? Sony may want this to happen. Think about it, If a person has a Homebrew capable psp and tells their friend about it this will make them want to go out and buy one. In a way DAX is helping Sony get sales for the PSP.

It's not that strange that this firmware was decrypted with the same decrypter as 3.10, the update wasn't a security patch, it was only to fix a bug in R-Type and stuff. I'm sure the next time Sony release a security patch, it'll be a bit more of a challenge, but judging by the ability of these guys, not too much of a challenge!

When you do think about it, Jammie is slightly correct. By showing my friend my amazing 3.02OE-B PSP after xmas(Thats when the OE-B firmware came out), he went out the next day, and bought a PSP with some money he had for xmas. He then phoned me the day after, and I hacked his PSP for him. One more converted to the way of the homebrew, one more PSP sold. So, therefore, he has said SOMETHING correct.

You guys really need to stop acting as though we're pulling one over on Sony. Looking at how quickly the past five updates have been cracked, it's obvious that they *want* it done. If I recall correctly from high school science, five is the minimum number of repetitions required for a decent test base via the scientific method. Well, here we go. Five releases, five incredibly quick cracks. Folks, Sony wants the firmware opened. Why do people seem to have so much anger at Sony? Digg seems overflowing with people psyched that the Wii is kicking Sony's butt. But why the angst? The PSP is a great invention and I want it to be a successful product so it will get great games and other improvements. You are probably to late in the game.. but for about more than two years, people have been hacking the Sony PSP.. it all started with runing unassigned code (game and etc) on FW v1.0.. and it went from there.. now there is the Firmware version 3.10 OE.. And that gives tones of cool new features.. anywho, if your jsut now into the game.. IDK if your psp is even downgradeable.. ive had a psp since about a year they came out.. so mine was with 1.50... and then ew motherboards are, as i can tell a ***** to downgrade.. happy trails

Sony feeds new firmware bit by bit to `regular` users(good? , scared of bricking?, whats HB?,lazy?), they stay interested and using their psp, eagerly waiting for the next, no matter how small the changes. Homebrewers also eagerly await for the new firmware to decode and then create HB firmware, it keeps them interested and using their psp,not to mention all the forum discussions, also playing the rebel can be fun, esp. for youth (`F*** you I won`t do what you tell me`). you need to be on sony fw1.5 and the best way for some one who dont much is to download a easy installer via bit torrent .if not its a longer proccess involving moving files around your memory and renaming then and stuff that aint for noobs :)
decrypting in the short term has nothing to do with downgrading.if you are on any firmware above 3.03 you cannot downgrade.if yours is below that you can get the 3.03downgrader but you will need GTA:lcs disk(unpatched).either way this is not for you!

I UGed to 3.1 before I knew about the 3.03 DGer. My bad I know, but i also didnt have GTA:LCS so was it so bad. After seeing the DGer I kicked myself then got on e-bay and found the 2.00 Version of GTA needed. As soon as I receive it, I will have the "Gloden Ticket". Until then I will sit on my 3.1 and just have to wait till the next DGer comes out, hopfully. But Live and learn. One day I too will enjoy the world of homebrew, but not today.

PSP Brew is being a ***** or summits wrong with the download. I just keep having EBOOT.PBP come up as Invalid?! and the other EBOOT.PBP in the 2% file only has the PARAM file in it. What the hells going on? Wheres DATA.PSAR? Help! I cant stand no homebrew!

i did everything that it says to do at the top of this page but i when i load up PSAR Dumper V28 from the GAME folder it says "The game could not be started. (8002014C)" Somebody help plz
Sony has added a file called Vhex.prk this file is needed to run the firmwire. If the file is removed, tampered with, or not original the system will automatically shut down when the system realizes. when you turn it on the sytem will load up in the network update and will not exit until the firmwire is downloaded and installed. The Devil's name is Sonyyyyyy!!!!!!!!! I will continue to work around this prob until then have patience my people.

Just my luck...I haven't played w/ my psp for a couple moths & just yesterday I picked up a new game 4 it...so I dload the new 3.11 ..shortly thereafter I discover homebrew :(. Is it in any way possible for me to enjoy all this goodness? I'd like to put a custom themes (GoW theme looks sick!) & play some older games on here, if possible. Yeah I got the dumper too but as you it wont work: "File corrupted" or "error". And your not alone. In other sites, I see alot of people calling for help for the same reason but there's still any replys yet :/ good luck for both of us.
Same for me that's all I gonna say -.- The thing we can do is to study like crazy to know how to crack our psp ourselves but if not the only thing we can do is to wait. Be patient. After all the last downgrades it'll impossible that we won't ever be able to downgrade it. Good luck!
When I updated my psp to version 3.11, I didn't even know you existed. But a bit after the update I saw this web site talking about running psx games on the psp. Then after getting the information that I need your custom firmware to be able to play games, I knew your name. I was so suprised with all the things you could do with the psp. Well, What I wanna say is that your the best and I wish you good luck. So cool to have someone like you working hard to make us have real fun with the psp. Alot of people surely thinks the same
