2.7X PRXDecrypter Released! |

Dark_Alex has released yet another breakthrough in the quest of PSP firmware supremacy! He has just released his 2.7X PRXDecrypter application, which does exactly what it sounds like. It can decrypt PSP firmwares that previously couldn't be decrypted such as 2.7. Dark_Alex has only tested it on 2.71m, but the test came out successful, so you can bet on it working for firmwares 2.6 and 2.70.
Just like Dark_Alex's other programs 2 PSPs are needed, a 1.5 PSP and a PSP running firmware 2.6. Here's the instructions on how to use it:
1.50 part
- Copy __SCE__psar_dump2 and %__SCE__psar_dump2 to /PSP/GAME/ in the memory stick.
- Get the DATA.PSAR of the EBOOT.PBP of the update you want to decrypt (2.71 for example) and put it in the root of your memory stick
- Start the program.
2.60 part
- Be sure you have the F0 folder with the ENCRYPTED dump obtained in the 1.50 part.
- Copy prxdecrypt27X to /PSP/GAME/ and start the program with the eLoader.
- The memory stick will flash for some time. When it finishes to flash, restart the PSP.
So, what does this mean for homebrew? Well, it could lead to an exploit being found in firmware 2.7 if there is one present. I am in no way saying that there is one or this will lead to homebrew on 2.7 so please do not jump to conclusions. It could also lead to 1.5 users being able to launch firmwares 2.6 and 2.7/2.71 on DevHook; so stay tuned to PSPupdates!

Good news! Man I hope this leads to a downgrader for 2.71 or at least a way to run homebrew on it. If it does I swear I'll never upgrade my firmware again, I'll just buy another PSP for things that need the newest firmware. Great job guys keep it up! Sooner or later 2.71 will be downgradable I can feel it.

I know this doesn't in any way guarantee it, but I hope this leads to a 2.7 exploit being found. Still coming to the terms with the fact that I upgraded to 2.7 a day before the 2.6 kernel explot was found :( just my luck I spose! loving everybody's work at the moment in blowing 2.5/2.6 wide open.
This can decrypt firmware 2.71 on a 1.5 and 2.6 PSP. You cannot run homebrew on 2.7+

Well, If you've bricked your PSP it's your fault. There were warnings, don't whine about it. I feel sympathy for those tha brick their PSPs, but those that moan and blame the developers afterwards: Tough Luck.

Seems like this is to enable developers to examine the firmware closely to find out how it works and how to emulate it or bypass the security. Has anyone looked inside the decrypted 2.71 EBOOT yet? I found a usbcam usbmic and usbgps PRXs...woah gps, cam, and a mic on a 1.5 .....O_O
Just because you bricked your psp it isn't the devs fault. There were warnings all through out the article and it warned you that it was untested. Just don't use any other piece of homebrew ever again and you will be fine safe in your little protective coccune. Anyway Dark_Alex, much respect for your hard work and generosity to the PSP community. I have not used the downgraders yet but my friend used the 2.5-1.5 one and you brought a whole new world of PSP stuff to him so thanks for that. Also once this is put to use in a new version of devhook then we will have the ultimate PSP a version 1.5 that can do everything that every other firmware can. AH HA HAH!!! The problem with it was Sony changing of module the UtilsForKernel library ¬¬ The 2.7X reboot.bin is still not decompressed. It uses a new format of compression (RLZ?), and a new function introduced in 2.7X is the one that do the job: sceSystemMemoryManager::UtilsForKernel_7DD07271 The download is in the same place than the previous one."
This is cool and all, and i take nothing from Dark Alex, very smart guy. But I have a question, that, while it may sound sort of n00by, is accually a good question and would be awesome if my question could eventually be answered with a yes. Ok, here goes.... You remember the PSPE right? For windows. Yeah, that one. Would'nt it be possible to (maybe with slight modification of the programming), run devhook on PSPE, and in turn play psp games on the computer? Because I have the new Devhook, and I can play all my iso's without a problem, and luvin it, but could'nt that be possible if the dev's took a week to look at PSPE compatability for devhook?
ok i thank dark_alex, BUT whe you start something, please finish it, you made a downgrader for 2.6 now conintue on that and nmake a downgrader for 2.6 on a TA-082 MOBO...did ya think of that ;-)

Rar is just a compressed file. You must decompress it first

anyways when 2.7 and 2.71 are done with I think you should all go back to 1.51 and 1.52 cause thois firmwares were never cracked , I know that hacking them is unuseful but it would complete the collection of firmwares cracked , anyways keep working on 2.7 and 2.71 , I will downgrade to 1.5 and would like to have the stuff from 2.7 and 2.71 :)

If I create a 2.71 folder in my DevHook direcotry and drop in the related 2.71 Files from the decrypted 2.71 Dump, would I be able to boot 2.71 from Devhook? Would the option to load 2.71 automatcially appear in the Devhook UI menu? Or would I have to add another string somewhere? I'm sick of waiting for someone else to update Devhook - so I'm gonna try it myself. :)

I just don´t make a downgrade because i have only 2.60 UMD games. So, why make a downgrade and lose the games for a while ? I use my favorites homebrews with eLoader...But if can emulate 2.7, is very clear that i want to downgrade too !!! I waiting a new fanjita eloader, but if DevHook emulate 2.7 i go to 1.5 too !!!

No PSPE wont run devhook, it could only just about run some homebrew eboots, and definately wouldn't run full games,
Sony will be planning Dark_Alex's assasination at the moment...

So does Booster just implement this into his firmware installer program, which sets up the firmware for DevHook to use. So 2.6, 2.7, 2.71 firmware emualtion is almost upon us?
What if we put the 2.71 flash into the 200 folder in devhook and see if it loads the firmware. Anyone tried it?
the PSP scene is firing on all cylinders now. keep up the great work guys! unfortunately everyone seems so focused on escaping the newer firmwares when they should focus all of their energy on breaking those instead. imagine kernel mode on 2.71 the whole community could upgrade to! think cake and eat it too.

You knokw nothing about what you are talking about, and there is no chance in hell, because you can't just drop in software and expect something like that to work. An emulator emulates HARDWARE, not software. It doesn't matter what software you throw at it, it won't work unless the hardware itself is emulated accurately enough and fast enough. PSPE does not emulate a memory stick, it does not come even close to 100% accuracy, and trying to load up devhook on it would almost certainly not work, unless the coder of devhook implemented his own PSP emulator inside the code. And he did not. That would be like asking, "LOL if I load up Top gear 3000 on zsnes will that allow it to emulate the DSP-3 chip?" But it could be possible in about 8-10 years, literally.

WHO CARES ABOUT DOWNGRADING, I say this because people who did upgrade knew they were losing homebrew. For the people have 1.5's engoy the flash player, if we have devhook what would be the point to even upgrade. I'm more interested in getting games higher than 2.60 working on the PSP. I'd put the flash player second since the gaming is what's more important ;).

I made a mistake, the reboot.bin from 2.6 has been decompressed, fluff and dark_alex are working on decompressing the 2.7 reboot.bin right now, it wont be long he already cracked 2.7 encryption and the decompression methods for the 2.6 reboot.bin all today, I would be suprised if he does it today. I already compiled the 2.71 firmware for devhook and tried the decompressed bin from 2.6 - NO GO. we definatley need the decompressed 2.7 reboot.bin, but even then you will need to alter all of the txt files in the vsh and kd directories and add entries for the extra prx's (i.e usbgprsr.prx, usbmic.prx and usbcam.prx) I think booster will need to alter devhook to to tell it where to lead the devhoo.prx in the 2.71 firmware...etc. Shoudl be difficult for him to do as soon as dark_alex and fluff bust open that reboot.bin.

I just tried and replaced all the files of 2.6 including the reboot.bin and it would get the the sony entertainment default psp bootup then just die. So its a no go atm but its very possible for it to work since i got it to use the reboot.bin and reboot but either the 2.6 files i d/led where corrupt ofr the emulator can't run for whatever reason. I just hope booster can get this going once the reboot.bin is done for 2.71.
I really doubt sony would do automatic upgrading because they already take the precaution of checking for the AC adaptor before upgrading. If they took that away, then I'm sure many psps would be bricked as the battery died during the update. I'm just saying it's not a very practical idea.
interesting, at least its getting to the sonytscreen so reboot.bin is doing its job, I didn't think to try the decrypted 2.6's with devhook! You said the .txt needs to point to the new prx's correct as well as added strings so do u mean the files located in the \dh\250\flash0\dic area or do u know if they can get new registry files for 2.71 bc we are trying to run 2.6 with 25 registry files tahts located in \dh\250\flash1\registry bc the flash1 250 is still being used. Or are we gonna just have to wait for Booster to redo devhook.prx for the new firmware?
no just need to add any extra prx files, the text files are the lsit of prx's devhook needs to load, if one of the new 2.6 prx's relies on a new prx that isn't loaded, OS wont boot. In regard to reg files, I dont think that matters as if they dont work the firmware will simply display a corrupt settings screen and should re write the regsitry files for 2.71. Got a big feeling that devhook.prx probably gets load at a different entry point, who knows its all worth a try, I'm sure we'll see a new version of devhook for 2.6 ( and maybe 2.7 ) in the next few days (or hours) just need to crack the decompresssion ( and possibly encryption as fluff mentions) on the 2.71 reboot.bin and we are away!
k in 2.5 there are 2 files that are no longer in 2.6 uart4.prx utils.prx and the only new file in 2.60 is pspnet_adhoc_discover.prx so im going to remove the two then add the other one to all the .txt files ill let you know in aminute what i get.

I changed all the files and .txts in the 250/kd file to have pure 2.6 still not a go i wounder if i put the correct string in the .txt i put $/kd/pspnet_adhoc_discover.prx (litttle box as well) at the end of the text and found nothing related to the other two files in there what do you think i should add for the string if anything?

I was able to run 2.6 Monster Hunter Freedom US Version UMD with dev hook. I took the flash0 dump i got from the PSAR Dumper replaced all the files in there spots, then took all the new 2.6 .prx files and transfered them over deleted the two unneeded files mentioned above as well as added the new file to the 4 .txt files started devhook the memory light blinkin for a few seconds then stopped and nothing happend i was like crap didn't work but i heard the umd drive spinning and reading and about 1 minute later Monster Hunter started loading off the UMD. I then tried to go back but the minute i pressed the homekey it froze up so taht means the problem atm is devhook.prx neeeds to be updated. Or sumthing but hey it just shows its now possible.

I dont think that Sony is entirely anti-homebrew. Just think about it. If Sony released a firmware update that supported homebrew they would be swamped with bricked PSP that they would be responsible to repair because their firmware allows homebrew. Look at how many noods brick their PSP's, now picture this on a massive scale. As far as Sony advertising emus...just think about how many lawsuits they'd be hit with. Sony doesnt own the rights to any Nes, Atari, C64...etc titles. How could they advertise about something they dont own? At the end of the day, Sony isnt in business to do people favours or be nice to homebrewers. When a firmware gets cracked Sony has to upgrade it because the game publishers arent going to keep making games for the PSP if theyre not selling...no games, no PSP. Tried the same as you, added the other prx to the txt files, no go with loading into the xmb...Looks like the devhook.prx and the msreboot.prx need re compiling with 2.6/71 firmware compatbility, not as simple as just adding the prx's. Worth a try tho....Its over to you now booster and dark_alex

In responce to 205, no, it is not possible. The clock speed of the PSP is nowhere near high enough to emulate it. Putting aside the back that the PSP runs at 333, and that you'd need at least triple the power to even begin to emulate the proc, and that would be very *****tily. The only way you could do emulation for something almost as powerful would be through identical platforms, and none of those have it. PS2 - I believe 300Mhz. Far different proc class. PS1 - Although a different proc class, its weak enough to emulate GC - Far higher than 333. Outta the question. Same for xbox. N64 - Weak, and has a MIPS proc. Easier to emulate. I hope this answers your question.
Finally someone has 2.7x decrypted. I hope i'm not being way too optimistic, but with that decrypted, can't people see what's exactly in 2.7x and figure out a way around it. And because kernel mode was unlocked after the 2.7/2.71 update, doesn't that mean sony didn't patch the kernel exploit? Meaning if DarkAlex can find a way to load homebrew, he can find a way to use kernel, AKA Downgrader??? I'm so damn happy, cause now we have a working GBA emu, I can scrap my SP, all my games, and buy some new stuff cause i'll have it all on my PSP. Thank God for Dark Alex You are the greatest.

All due respect to the programmers and coders, but arent you kinda screwing the pooch by releasing all these releases one after another, shouldnt you wait and let sony make the same firmware mistakes over again? Wont $ony just use the progs you guys release to find the holes in their software and patch it up with their next firmware release ? As it is 3.0 isn't finished, and sony hires people to monitor these and dev's sites to wait for the populous to break their coding, then they just fix the exploit On the other hand, I thought my shlt didn't stink when I had my 2.0 with eLoader, but now I downgraded my 2.0 to a 1.5 (the downgraders been out forever, but the fear of bricking my psp wouldn't let me dowgrade) and do not miss the hit or miss running of apps under eloader (no diss to fanjita or ditlew). it appears that the decompressed reboot.bin has just been posted on the upload section of boosters blog. The user who uploaded it was called "Alex". 218 Read the posts I have written exactly where to get them and so have a few other ppl. If you google it you will find them to, dont be lazy :-p

i unzip the PBP of a 2.71 and put the icon0.PNG, data.psp file, and the param.sfo onto a unzip PBP 1.5 firmawre and put it and the existing file of the stuff i just said and deleted them and put it in a update folder when u find it will say 2.71 but its 1.5 it will start but i havent install ur decrypter on my psp yet and it should say firmware cant start . it wont brick ur psp trust me but it will put back at home

BOOSTER is working on a new version of devhook which will support 2.6 ONLY. 2.71 emulation is on its way but the 2.6 version had already been almost completed before Dark_Al' managed to decompress the 2.71 reboot.bin file. Expect a devhook 0.43 with 2.6 support soon, and then devhook 0.44 with 2.7 support a week or so later. He also asked for people to stop uploading the decrypted 2.6/2.7 fw's to pspsoftware otherwise it will get shut down, he has all he needs to finish the 2.6/7 support. thanks.

no, and yes, we will now be able to use devhook to reboot to 2.6/71 fimware, and this also opens up the possibility of us being able to examine the newly decryted firmware and find possible flaws in it to use for a downgrader this securit hole may also open up the possibility to run homebrew on 2.7 but dev's will primarily focus on finding the security holes for a downgrader rather than running brew. Because if you can downgrade you can run brew anyway.

...is an extremely annoying motherboard. The UP mod chip developers said (not promised, said) that they would release a version for 82 BUT this would still cost money. Weither someone hacks 82 or the mod chip comes out, we'll have to wait.

@291 the guy who made the site"h3r3t1c" i had read about in a thread earlier today. the guy (unlessed he mastered the psp in a month) has no idea what he is doing and is, and i do not use this term lightly, a newb.
As long as Dark Alex continues there is ALWAYS hope for a new downgrader...call him a newb call him w/e u want, but u will soon see the true knowledge of dark alex!

im not trying to downgrade until im sure there is at least a chance that it will work...that is prob. a load of BS...look at the rating...he prob. rated it a 10 and everyone else rated it a 0 cuz there's bricked...im not risking a brick til something bout a possible downgrader comes on qj!

For quite some time I just left my PSP sit because there isn't really anything to play, then I recently found out you can play ROMs on it and I was excited to be able to play them hand-held. I searched around for how, and soon found out the only way to play them is have 1.5 and GTA or w/e and that ruined everything since I have 2.71, don't want to downgrade, and won't waste 40$ buying GTA just from some ROMs. I googled this site and noticed that 2.7x might be the new exploited firmware which would pwn. I'd finally be able to ROM WORLD-WIDE ZOMG =D. Dark Alex, no need to rush yourself but we all are waiting ^^ Jk. Hope to see a release soon and keep up the good work.
