Wave hackers unite: xmbWave |

Thanks to a tip from aDcOoL, we heard about this nifty new app that allows people to hack the wave on the XMB background. It's called xmbWave, and it's made by Vulpix.
xmbWave is basically a simplified hex editing tool that alters the wave on your background, and as easy as the app is to learn, it's a tough one to become an artist. As you can see from the above picture from one of Darkstone's creations, finding a balance between going nuts in changing the values and knowing when to stop will serve users well in creating their own unique waves. It's probably the closest thing to a visual "fingerprint" you'll have on your PSP, seeing as two original creations will rarely be alike after editing.
Combined with icon makers and uploaders, as well as background manufacturers, this will really spruce up your PSP into something uniquely you.
Before anything else though, Vulpix wants to remind folks to check the readme and to not alter the values too much, as you could make the wave effect disappear entirely. Make sure you have a copy of the original starting values, just in case you do something very weird.

this is so freaken awesome but much harder than it sounds, even if you read the readme.
With a tad bit more of hexing, you can also change the colors of the waves. See my posts in the original topic to see what I mean. ^_^

I read the readme but the instructions are pretty vague. I opened system_plugin_bg_deflate.bin in 'hex workshop', but i dont understand what "offset decimal 530 through 716" means exactly. I've messed around with hex editors a little bit prior to this. If anyone could make it a little clearer that would be great. Thanks ahead of time.

Wow, it helps if i went to to the forum and read some posts there. Very neat! A GUI and more user friendly program would be a nice addition. Great job.
this would edit the XMB wave right. Awsome mod but I would like to know if there's a way to have that wave ovelapping the custom background . I remmember something like that on 2.82 CFW by some dev. just before 3.XX oe series released. Any info would be much appiciated! Regards, John

i have been wondering bout this for a while, seems hard but it would be sweet if you could make it look like the ps3 xmb style, but ps3's is more of a solid type.

I've been wondering this too, even after reading through the forum topic twice seeing people have the black background and waves, i still don't understand how to get this. Anyone care to help?

"Replace 12 month backgound to plain black" then after you exit X-flash you have a plain black background with XMB waves. But my question was having my background picture of my pet for example. set as the background under "PHOTO" opion on XMB. After that the XMB it set behind that image. So it's no longer visible. What I wanted was instead of it behind that image. I wanted to have it on top of that. So no matter what Image I put on as my background picture. But he was also the person that made the VSH (AVS mod visuals while playing music) mod in the devhook 2.XX. This was before the 3.XX days. When Visuals for the mp3/wma,etc... wasnt available yet. The XMB wave is over that image. That's the result I intentionally want, but for todayss standard. The Dark Alex's 3.XXOE Series (3.03 oe-a,b,c or 3.10 oe-a) I want the XMB wave over my custom background.

xmbWave is an app for flashing the customized waves. HAHA your wrong... Your and idiot, lol. I am poking fun at n00bs (not MedievalAnubis who stated something innocent), but I bet I still get flamed by people who don't read all the way through a reply...
You just need to delete the vshmain.prx in flash0 :P
how? all the stuff i found was for 2.71SE/3.02-3.03OE

when i do it, it always makes the wave effect totally disappear. :( anyone got any tips?

Removing the vshmain.prx file from flash0 stops your PSP from booting entirely. I wouldn't recommend it. Provided you don't delete the file you can recover it by pasting the file back across to the right folder.
he just wants you to mess up your PSP deleting vshmain.prx is an instant brick but if your smart you can repair this
