Waiting for 2.71 CF SE-B? Watch it in Action!

You're probably wondering what this 2.71 CF SE-B I am referring to in the title is. Well, the entire name Stands for 2.71 Custom Firmware Special Edition, Version B. For a long name, it's a very impressive accomplishment of which hasn't been released yet. However, this new custom firmware (predecessor to 2.71 SE-A) will be coming within the next several hours if things work out as predicted. In the meantime, you can watch Dark_Alex's new custom firmware in this video that vb_master has compiled (do not go crying to him asking for it, many have tried and failed).

So, stay tuned for this new custom firmware which will add several features over the previous release that some may find useful, and many may find harmful (ISO's anyone?). Until then, please enjoy the video as created by vb_master and stay tuned to QJ for our coverage of this amazing release.

Note: QJ.net does not condone the use of ISO's or any piracy-related activities. We have chosen to report on this new firmware and video much like we had chosen to report on the "new" Devhook. There are bad angles to the release, but many "good" aspects as well.

Hey, got a psp with a busted UMD drive. Is there a way to load "backup" iso,dax,cso on it?

Will this do it?

Will the new devhook ever come out, The readme's allways said (No Umd required would be in the next version) never happened.

BTW, It's still a virgin 1.5 if that makes any difference anymore.

Ok just to be certain, having this firmware is like having 1.5 for homebrew? After we update can we go back to 1.5 if there is trouble with it? And, if I play an UMD game and it needs 2.71 will this work correctly, because I got like 15 demo umds from a sony rep and don't want to update my 1.5 or learn that devhook thing. Thanks

Wow, I can't believe it. 2.71 SE-A runs pretty much every homebrew out there. The only I've read about having problems was IrShell and there's a mod out there to run under this firmware. I recommend that if you haven't installed the 2.71 SE-A firmware, do it. It's 2.71 and 1.5 fused with a little sprinkle of Dax pixie dust, and boom, you have homebrew with the new firmware. Every emu I've tested out with it works perfect so don't hesitate to install the SE-A and through the XMB! This SE-B is gonna be kick ass, no more using Devhook. The wait will be worth it everybody. :)

So I never tried updating to SE-A figuring I downgraded to 1.5 and running devhook no prolems, so why should I?

But now with SE-B coming out...I am getting really intrigued.

Can anyone fill me in real quick on how I can updated once its released? I want to go from 1.5 > 2.71 SE-B.

With SE-A, I thought I read that you had to upgrade from 1.5 to 2.71 then run the autoinstaller to get to SE-A. Was that correct? I was worried, that if something went wrong, I'd have a 2.71 PSP, with no homebrew capabilities...one of the reasons I didn't mess around with it. If not, how did you update? I tried reading the read-me with the release, but never really understood it.

I am hoping for the answer of "You just plug your 1.5 PSP to you computer via USB, run the auto-installer on your PC, reboot your PSP and BAM 2.71 SE-A/B." This is what I wanted, and didn't want to try without knowing exactly what I needed to do.

I downgraded to 1.5, so I have some faith in myself :-> Just plain and simple explainations are requested.

When he launched SOCOM it seemed kinda slow starting up, but once they game actually started it looked fine. I hope there are detailed release notes when this comes out. I am using 2.71 SE-A and am enjoying it with no negative side effects. GREAT WORK DARK_ALEX!

The big thing about 2.71 is that some homebrew that flashes your flash memory won't run. But that's a good thing, since your PSP's flash memory would be different due to the new firmware, so it wouldn't have the desired effect.

Also, some people had problems with WiFi, due their putting their programs in the wrong folder (old WiFi apps should go in GAME150, not GAME.)

Some homebrew showed up as corrupted, but that's typically because the .SFO files inside the .PBP had some incorrect numbers inside of it (typically padding values.) There's tons of apps (one made by yours truly) floating around that can fix that in a split second, with no effect on the performance of the actual homebrew application.

Wow, so finally I can autoboot a programm in 2.71 SE like in haleyg's custom firmware? I was missing that in 2.71 SE-A but guess now it is time for me too to move on :)

Thanks vb_mater for the great video, one question btw. where did you find the bg in the Snes9x emulator? Nothing against Akira Toriyama, but I think it looks better than the default one ;)

I check everyday for a 2.8 eloader which is all I ask (I don't even care about no kernel access) but all I am saying is 2.71 homebrew this and custom firmware that and iso this eloader with kernel that. MORE PEOPLE HAVE 2.8. I'M BEGGING U I JUST WANT A SIMPLE ELOADER.

With a modchip you can also recoverer your bricked PSP in any case, with 2.71SE yust in case you have not deleted important files.

SE-A has given me nothing but trouble. All of my homebrew is showing up as corrupted, updateflasher is showing up as DADADADA error. When I try to run the recovery program as instructed, I get an error, 80010002.

Someone either get me to 2.71 or 1.50. I don't want to be on this ride anymore ;-; NOOO DADDY NOOOO
