PSP - Image 1While Sony's just released the official FW 5.01 update for the PSP, some of you may be left hanging with a question: is Dark AleX working on an 5.01 M33?

After all, Sony's incorporated some firmware check that blocks out those who aren't on FW 5.01 from accessing the PlayStation Store. Chances are, if it's absolutely imperative that you get to access the PS Store, then a patch is called for. Or is it?

Some fellow by the name of Dudash discovered a simple work around solution to supposedly grant you access to the PS Store, even without a CFW 5.01 M33 from DAX. Here's how:
  1. Run the 5.00 M33 installer and stop when it prompts you to press X to start SCE Updater, R to exit
  2. Take out the memory stick
  3. Download the official 5.01 update data
  4. Rename the 5.01 update (UPDATE.PBP) to 500.pbp
  5. Paste it to "X:PSPGAMEUPDATE" and overwrite the original (real) 500.pbp
  6. Pop the MS card back in and continue

This Will Give You 5.01m33
From The Beginning Of The SCE Updater, It Will Say

PSP System Software
Version 5.01

Start

And Now You Can Enter The Playstation Store Without Getting An Error!

Likewise, this same procedure was also discovered by Erland in our QJ.NET forums. You can check the Visit link below to see his set of instructions, but ultimately, they're the same.

Please be advised that this hasn't been tested to be absolutely 100% working for all cases - especially since FW 5.01 also integrates some fixes with certain Memory Stick models. This procedure might not work for certain cards. Given that, we advise caution in trying this out for yourself, just in case something happens.

Also, some of you may want to wait for an official update from Dark AleX (he's already promising an M33-2, just so you know), but for now, this is what we've been hearing around the web.

Thanks to Dudash for the find!

avoid

I would avoid doing this, and wait another day or so until DAX releases an official 5.01 m33.

mmm

no how about theyre fixing the bloody bug, in ps store funny enough some times you just have to update the lot and the ps store would check for the latest fw, because some games may not be able to work with lower fw sure theres no much change between this update, but its called consistency they never actuall tried to stop hacking here, they just did it in the mean time, and werent going to allow it, in other they used near enough abosolutely no effort to stop hacking but they might aswell slow it down, which is what they di

lol you mean you've been able to post "second" on many other blogs? Kudos to the tradition then ;)

do not avoid

There is no harm in doing it, and now that this has been discovered, hell, he might not even make a 5.01 M33.
by FreePlay - 2008-10-22 16:12:41
LOL

There absolutely IS harm in doing this. M33's patches patch SPECIFIC VERSIONS OF THE MODULES. If you don't have those versions anymore, the patches won't work. FYI, if you installed this, you probably broke Pops, because it changed significantly in 5.01.

I did it!

I did it and now I am able to go to the Playstation store. Although many of U dont really care about having or using the PSN store. Also plugins work well. It works just like the official 5.00 M33. Although a lil warning after you do this you will see the blue screen of death. But all you have to do is just press circle and everything fixes itself. :)

That's weird...

I was able to log into the Playstation Store without this method. I just updated to 5.01 M33 the usual way and i was able to log into the store. I downloaded a demo and...themes.

This method stops you from being able to install important M33 updates IE M33-2, M33-3, which means these errors will remain on your system as they are M33 related and not official firmware related. Think ahead before you actually consider this. Either way if your already on 5.00M33 it means downgrading before hand as the installer will not install over itself. IE 5.00M33 will not install over 5.00M33 regardless of changing the 5.00 to 5.01 firmware.

lol

this was never meant to be a permanent update. just temporary until DAX came out with a bypass for the PSS. which he already has. i pretty much just released this method for those with pandora on hand and wanted access to the PSS before DAX released his updates. which are out now. so this method is now useless

i'm beginning to wonder....
