*****yeah its real
I'm only posting this so some idiot doesn't come in yelling "first post" or some *****.
Genial ich freu mich wenns den bald in Deutschland gibt:-)
#2 too late lol
wow packaging looks TIGHT
That looks very similar to the Viper Extreme box imo, same usb cable, Actel chips and antistatic bag with printed logo too.
Could Team Viper be behind this or an I just reading too far into nothing?
there is no team viper lol but its made by the same people yeh
WOW! Niiiiice Box!
=)
this looks pretty real, though, im thinking about getting one now XD
even, though, i have a v1.5 @_@
thats really sad how you appreciate the box more than UP itself... quite funny too... you guys were the kids who were more excited playing with the brown corrugated card box than the toys that came in them at christmas. haha
photoshopped! jks, jks, its real.
Its finally here...and its real!
anyone have a release date, i am wondering why the team themselves have not come forward and started threads for us all to read???
DMS (aka Sjeep/HDLoader creator) made the viper, probably this too.
BTW: most people who are reselling it WONT be sending the box. They gouge you on the chip and the shipping, and then try and save a buck or two with the shipper by tossing it.
For that price, the box better be included! i could use it to cage the chirpy crickets crawlin around the house!
Why the ***** did they make the box so large when the items in it only fill up about a thrid of it. Waist of space and shipping cost (even though its like 10 cents more
now i can see why it is soo pricey, lol, most of its in the packaging.. lol
will This Let you run ISo on the PSP?
u obviously have no imagination
OMG! Look at the size of that soldering aid tool. It looks so much bigger in the installation diagrams released yesterday!
Since I have an original fw1.5 and a fw2.6 PSP, I'm happy I don't have to try to cram one of those inside to get dual firmware benefits. My used 2.6 PSP cost less than that mod chip and I don't have to risk f***ing it up. Some people say it's stupid owning 2 PSP's. Who's laughing now?
i dont know what you guys are barking about, it's a skinny box
other than that, this seems like a major gouge for your money
isnt there sopposed to be a video coming out soon on how to install this
If i can find a super cheap psp thats compatible i'll totally buy this and try soldering. So anyways when are these supposed to start shipping? If they already being shipped I hope someone who gets one shares their experience and tells us how it is.
Will htis work with elaoder?
will This Let you run ISo on the PSP?
It will be true on mine in a near future^^ (i checked in the UMD Drive, and no text^^)
Yes, if somebody can't mount the modchip himself, it is too expensive. And buying a moded PSP is also expensive. It's cheaper to buy a second hand 1,5 psp... I also own 2 psps, one with 1,5 firmware, the other with 2,5. And it's very cool to own 2 PSPs. The modchip could be cool to run firmware 1,0 but can the chip do this? I read, the modchip will be delivered with firmware 1,5 on it???
nocomment
it is an alternative to the eloader. do you even know what this is? and yes it will allow ISO's to be ran on the psp
PS: I have nothing against the modchip, it is very cool. But I don't need it, because I have a 1,5 psp... But I'm afraid that new games won't run with the modchip... Sony will block it !!! And new firmware versions will be protected, that they check if there is a modchip and won't run, or can't be installed on the Modchip-Flash... What do you think???
based on the pic, is this going to be released in stores? just a thought, i would love to go to gamestop and get a modchip like that...
also, if theres no cheap instalation service i think ill save my money for another psp.
Have you ever heard of a store that sells modchip? I mean like bestbuy, circuitcity, Ebgame, Gamestop ever sold a mobchip in store? I mean not really.
warranty 30 days? that kinda make me not sure about it, also, how come if you order extra 2gig ms with black pre-modified only cause $89 and but if you order the 2 gig ms with the white pre-modified psp it takes 99 dollars?
Is the chip being shipped yet???
Because they are illegal to sell in the US. Under the DMCA, it is illegal to sell or make available any software or device that can be used to work around copy protection schemes or break codes/encryptions meant to kept data secure (that includes decoded/decrypted firmware). This is exactly what most mod chips do. There's a lot people on here saying that mod chips are not illegal. Well, I can tell you that the people saying that have no idea what they are talking about and they are dead wrong. Their functions are almost entirely expressly forbidden in the DMCA.
UP is a little different from other mod chip solutions, though. In this case, UP doesn't really work around copy protection by itself, but it enables users to dual boot to a firmware version where it's possible to launch software that can avoid copy protection (ISO loaders and emulators running commercial roms). I'm not sure how the firmware is loaded onto UP, though. If it requires a decrypted firmware to be installed, then it's illegal here in the US. Actually, if this thing is shipping with Sony firmware on it, that alone, I think, makes it illegal since I highly doubt they have any distribution rights on any Sony firmware/software. No sane major retailer in the US would even consider dealing with it. You think Sony would want to continue to do business with a company that was selling mod chips for their devices? I don't think so. Any company that does sell both, does not buy their stuff direct from Sony. They get it from other retailers or some middle-man distributor.
Well i dont understand why showing a few stacked boxes with their logo proves this isnt fake? But oh well!....
Ill eventually get one but im gonna hold off on it just to see if it was worth the hype...
Were is pspupdates getting all this info comming from.
And about this post up there ^^^ an news post at pspupdates said the chip will not ship with the firmware on it because of copy right infigment.
My Baby !!
I don't know if this is gonna be real or not but im not gonna get it. i never buy a first gen modchip.
anyone who buys it is basicly gonna be a paying beta tester, wait till a 2nd or 3rd gen chip comes out, better featurs and probibly wont have to solder.
just my OP though.
I WAS HOPING IT WASNT REAL!!!
NOW THE PSP WILL DIE LIKE DREAMCAST BECAUSE OF PIRACY! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOO!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!
#40 i agree with u. this modchip ensures the failure of the psp.
After the psp dies and the developers will stop making games for it because everyone will download them.......
NINTENDO DS WILL DOMINATE THE HANDHELD MARKET !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!
failure of the psp cus of modchip! oh noz!
it actually is a real threat. because if nobody will buy games (they will be able to play ISOs with this modchip for free), the developers will just stop making them.
I guess 99 bucks isn't too bad, wish I knew how to solder it though :P..lol. Charging people 100 bucks to install it IS kind of high though, if it only takes a few points to solder >_> . BUt hey, in a year or two the price'll go down anyway, right
DO NOT LET THE PSP FAIL LIKE DREAMCAST!!!
KILL PIRACY!!!
U GOT TO BE JOKING
I Support it!!!
I want the psp to outlive the DS!!!
EMULATORS. I'm not a person that downloads movies or games, but man would it be nice to be able to play snes/nes/genesis/or whatever else without needing gta and some half working emulator.
1.5 emulator's run flawlessly, that's what I want. That and to play new games.
Give me a mother *****ing break. Do you honestly think the PSP will die from piracy? Did you ever notice how the PS2 and Xbox has modchips and they were VERY successful? The Dreamcast didn't die of piracy. Sega just made too many mistakes with the system, granted it was a great console nonetheless.
Ppl are gonna kill PSP by their own hands. What would be the purpose to have it if there are no (new) games availble. Ppl gonna dig a hole for theirselves. Please dont let the PSP die. I can tolerate to see that Nintendo for kiddos taking over the handheld market.
THINK ABOUT IT FOR A MOMENT. THE PSP FUTURE IS IN YOUR HANDS.
I agree> this chip will K I L L the psp.
Seriously, i havent seen any video proof of it working... someone care to link me in case i didnt see it?
Those who want the psp to be on the market longer, lets start a petition to prevent this modchip from being released!
create a petition on this site:
http://www.petitionspot.com
THE FUTURE OF PSP IS IN OUR HANDS!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!
reading this makes my head hurt. if you dont like it go to another site. like sonys forum instead of this one. dip*****s
great idea #58!!! I'm with u.
I have a strong feeling that most of the ppl who replies like "oh yeah i am getting it" " its gonna be amazing "
" i am surely gonna get it" will end up in bricking their PSP, and thus they gonna buy a new 1. 100 $ for a cheap sorry i meant chip and then 160$ for a new console. Not a bad deal huh. Trust me pspupdates would be full of posts like " Oh F**K i bricked my psp." " i soldered the wrong wire at the wrong place" " I did everything ok, but still it is not working." " it wont even boot up " etc etc... just wait and see...
PLEASE DONT KILL THE PSP!
i mean we CAN actually succeed and get this chip to be banned!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!
y would someone even start to believe that the psp will die because of this modchip.
first the ps2 has had modchips for it for years and yet it still gets games made for it all the time. same with xbox. Also there is a way to play emulators and such with no soldering on ps2 so im just gonna wait and see if something comes out like that for psp.
as for this modchip. think logically.if you buy the modchip thats pretty much $100 then your psp most likely $200 then if you f*** up you gotta buy a new psp so thats another $185(more or less depending on where you live, and plus tax) so thats nearly 500 bucks.then if you dont have a soldering thingamajig you gotta buy one of those. soo if no mistakes leaving you around 400 bucks for all of it.
then if you buy a premodded one you gotta pay 400 bucks.
if you send in your psp and have them mod it pretty much $200 so that +cost of psp $400
so it seems like no matter what option you choose you have spent $400 in some way unless your friend solders it on for you then somewhere around 300 bucks
btw im talking total cost for your psp to work with UP(including how much you paid for your psp)
so thinking about all that money... you could have bought a new xbox360 instead of psp, or maybe saved your money for ps3 or wii.
but on the other hand you can tell people your psp is worth 400 bucks and kinda feel like a bigshot or sumn until someone says psp sucks.
***** all the sony ball suckers, its force the companies to down the prices and what console died with a modchip, say to me ???? ps2 is the most chipable console today and its dead ???? gamecube died before the release of the modchip, but i got a gamecube and got the modchip because i love console, dont metter if its sony, nintendo, microsoft, pc, ***** all i love all, i have a n-gage so think, who like consoles dont let them to die, but who just have to have, thinking in the price deprecitation of the price, or other things, i say to all, ***** ***** ***** your ass, go go go chipmods and this will really how always down the price of the games. If you don´t understand so go to other forum or go to suck your dog.

the developers will simply STOP making games for the psp if nobody will buy them! instead they will just play ISOs!!!
i agree with the petition!
You cant stop progress and you never ever will bring it on!!!!
I love the PSP and a chip won't kill it you f**King idiots lack of quality 3rd party software will. The serious problem the PSP faces is the fact that developers see it as nothing more than a slightly underpar PS2 and therefore they have produced some fairly shoddy titles for it! (SO FAR!!!!!!!)
Dont you think it's crazy that most people are looking forward to an updated port of vice city and a PS1 emu!?!? What does that say about a new gaming device?!?
All that said and done i still think it has potential and i love playing homebrew and some titles are great but we are in a minority with regards of the general public who own PSP's.
>>64
first of all. in order to make some1 convince with your aspects, you gotta have some linguistic skills. Besides using foul language and cursing makes a person's "image" real clear. It shows how mature a person is in his approach and the abilities to make other person understand his meaning.
That's all
really,t eh chip looks great and i wodul egt one if I didnt aready ahve 2 PSPs, but how is that gonna fit in there, i gotta know :/
This modchip won't kill the PSP. Most of the people who have a PSP don't even know what homebrew is let alone a modchip.
rader x that part detaches from the ribbon
For the love of God people run ISO's now i could but i don't ?!? There will be loads of modchips for this device people will always exploit so you idiots on here going boycott boycott...Ect are wasting your time
Please close the comments on this section before it gets out of hand
whoever is posting all the "boycot" $hit better shut the *uck up.
thank you for not being a noob spammer and answering my question.
turd
does anyone else think we should start a section in the forum on installation and tools needed/reccommended by people who have installed chips before?!?!
>>>>>>And the best way to take apart a PSP ETC
OK think about this........ think...... ok like what has been said before the ps2 and xbox both have a great variety of chips and exploits so a chip is not required. For instance, you can easily softmod an xbox or ps2 for free, without voiding your warranty, and "isos" and burned disk "backups" will play flawlessly and on boot. Seriously you immature pricks if you think this will kill the psp do a little research on the previous chipped consoles. Regardless of a chip, piracy will live on and thrive along with the legitimate gaming community. With #4's comment i totally agree. Everyone that knows about the hombrew scene at my school that i know of i have introduced them to(including psp, xbox, and ps2) so in all of the WORLD only a small percentage of us(i would assume) know of and understand the homebrew community
СПАСИТЕ ПСП. НАСНИТЕ ПЕТИЦИЮ.
NO 82 thats pretty much what i said (68/74) I totally agree and i've been round this business since the late 80's
the DS also has piracy, no console is / or will be exempt from it.
it's up to the consumers.
already pre-ordered this baby. For now i don't feel like having to softmod. Never have to worry about psp versions plus a team is trying to develope its own firmware which would be godly because it would let u load everything
RaiderX, I think the usb thing might not stay in there all the time. Perhaps you connect the usb daughterboard to the ribbon cable only when you need it, then when you're done you disconnect it and tuck the ribbon cable away. I could be wrong, but that would make more sense.
на дс пиратство НАМНОГО сложнее. на псп ведь МС!
ca ne va pas p'tain de merde tuer le p'tain de psp!
rêvecaste était pochè!!!
1. Piracy killed the Dreamcast. FALSE. Sega killed the Dreamcast. Poor management on their part. They didn't attact enough good third party dev's. They released it too soon after Saturn. Fans were bitter that they obsoleted the Saturn so soon and jumped ship and bought a PlayStation. Sony had an all-star line-up of games coming out and a far better controller, IMHO. FFVII, GT, MGS, etc.
2. Everyone will download games instead of buying them. FALSE. Get a brain. Even with UP, it won't magically allow you to run ISO's of newer games requiring firmware higher than 2.5 (currently the limit of ISO's via DevHook). You still need the actual UMD to run games not supported by the ISO loaders currently out there. UP will allow you to boot into an older firmware where you can run ISO loaders to run older games (up to 2.5 firmware), but exactly how is that any different than what is already going on without UP on the market? It's not. It won't change a thing. The only thing that UP enables is that it allows you to run the homebrew that people are already running, while still being able to go out and buy any game you want, including the newest releases. You want to complain about piracy, don't pin it on UP. Pin it on the devs making DevHook and the other ISO loaders because those are being used regardless of whether UP exists or not.
3. Piracy will kill the PSP. FALSE. Like others have already said, it won't kill the PSP any more than it's killed the PS, PS2, Xbox, GBA, etc. The percentage of people pirating games isn't as high as the market reps would have you believe. Your average 10 year olds (and even most teenagers) don't know how to do this stuff. The people that read stuff here and most of the people that comment here are a small percentage of the population that are smart enough to figure out how this stuff works. It's scary calling some of the people here "smart," but there are a lot of truly stupid people out there, so yeah, most of you people here are the smart ones. Yikes. We're all doomed.
Nintendo DS also have prated games. And i believe its going to be worse than PSP. As the carts are easier to manufecture just like gameboy carts.
http://www.engadget.com/2006/06/14/first-pirated-ds-carts-discovered/
i have one question if i have one psp and i put the modchip and i buy another psp can i take the modchip out of my old psp and put on my new will it work i mean a psp that is modchip compatible can i program it again on an other psp?
We are already working on a workaround for this major problem. The PSP will read the firmware form both chips, and it will treat it like it is a normal chip. Therefore, this chip is essentially the same thing that's already in the PSP. We are going to be filing a major lawsuit soon. We here at SCEJ will not allow this to continue any longer. Our firmware 3.0 is coming soon, and this modchip will not be able to boot up on it at all. So to all of you who are considering purchasing this, be forewarned; you will not be able to use your psp to play newer games, and movies if you install this chip on the PSP.
-Hyouri Himoshi, Sony Computer Entertainment of Japan
has it been confirmed that this modchip is also compataple with nintendo ds ? or am i just gay ? LOL
Mr./Mrs. Hyouri Himoshi, we are sorry to inform you that you no longer will be part of our staff, (as you have already been notified by mail) reasons have been sent to you by e-mail. Have a nice day.
93... your potentially gay.
NDS firmware was cracked ages ago , Same goes for the lite. It's easier to get the 400+ releases for them also (Due to file size).
Flashcarts now run with SD, MiniSD options for the DS...
Dont see any demise for the DS in the near future. But then again... DS games are actually worth payin for.
Still not proven that it wWORKS. Still not buying it. Especially since the packaging looks cheap. Your ass could be getting an empty box. "Boo hoo, I got an empty ass box, I'm gonna call the cops. OH WAIT, I'M USING THIS FOR PIRACY LOL." Arrested. I'm a designer, that looks cheap.
nocomment
I think that the smartest comment yet, was Comment 89*
CONGRATULATIONS Vipre77 on being the smartest dude in the comment section!!!
so what will happen when next firmware update happens?
Yes, I asked it a few posts ago: Sony could bring out a new firmware that detect the modchip and don't run. Or they bring out new games that detect the modchip... Or is the chip "invisible" and not detecteble? I don't think so. If newer Firm- and Software can detect the chip, then you won't able to run newer games, even not with an iso-player... Above I read a lot about piracy: The chip should be only used for homebrew (and for that you need 1.0,1.5 or if you like the eboot loader then 2.0). I my oppinion, the chip should block playing iso-files, because too much piracy could be the end of the psp.
CHAINSAW YOU OBVIOUSLY HAVENT READ ANYTHING ABOVE IT WONT BE THE END OF THE PSP READ NO89 AND TONS OF OTHER COMMENTS QUIET CLEARLY IT WILL NOT BE THE END OF THE PSP AND YOU JUST MAKE YOURSELF LOOK PRETTY FOOLISH?!?
Ok, maybe No89 is correct. But I still think the modchip will be used often to play copies. How much this will harm the software companies more than now, I don't know... And do you know anything about my other comments? (New firmware and software couldn't work with the modchip) ??
Well, that IS the main purpose of a mod chip, isn't it? To play back-ups of games along with homebrew? There isn't too many other uses for them except maybe to get around region encoding on movies.
The thing is, people are already playing backups and using homebrew whether UP exists or not. Yes, UP will allow those that bought PSPs which are incapable of running homebrew to now be able to run firmware 1.5 and thus run ISO loaders on older titles. The people that will actually do this are a very small percentage of the gaming population and as such will barely make a dent in Sony's bottom line. Running ISO's this way will always be limited by the capabilities of the ISO loader software out there. Sony doesn't need to defeat the UP chip. They need to defeat the ISO loaders. So far, titles requiring firmware 2.60+ have been doing that fairly well.
As far as Sony blocking the UP chip, I suppose it's possible. I don't know exactly how the chip works or what kind of internal diagnostics that the PSP can run to check for something like that. If they know what the impedance should be on a circuit and have a way to measure it, surely it would be different enough for the circuit when UP is installed that they could pick up on it when running a legit, non-modified version of the firmware. Because of the way the chip works, though, I don't know if they could shut down the PSP altogether by doing this. I think it would simply stop them from running newer firmware, essentially putting them right where they are now without UP on the market. It wouldn't directly stop the UP chip, but it would render it basically useless.
Naaaa i very much doubt it vipre77 if your running "dual" firmware!??! I think sony will only be able to control that?!!?
I don't understand what you're trying to say. What are you doubting? Sony will only be able to control what?
I'm an engineer. I design engine parts for a living. I've taken a few electrical classes. Believe me, it's very possible to detect a difference in impedance between an unmodified circuit and one that has a device piggy-backed onto it. This alone may not be enough, though. If the chip truly is "invisible" when turned off and you're running the firmware from the PSP, then you'll probably be alright. Once the chip is turned on, though, it *will* change the impedance of the circuit, but to detect it, Sony would need something at the hardware level (even lower level than the firmware) that would run a diagnostic during startup even before the main software portion of the firmware boots. Sony would probably need to have such diagnostics hard-wired into the motherboard for such a task, though. Doing it in firmware wouldn't be reliable enough because someone would figure out a way to disable it much more easily. I could see it being added to the next motherboard revision if it doesn't already exist.
just because your comment is long doesn't mean that its automatically smart
these anti-iso people are the lamest, most annoying people on the planet. you hate iso's, you hate piracy? good, shut the ***** up. nobody gives a ***** what you think about "piracy"
If people want to pirate games that is there choice, you don't have to make a big deal over something that is not you business. I make ISOs of the games I own, but I don't use ISOs that are not mine. Piracy will not ruin the PSP since there is only a very small percentage of people that actually pirate games.
Also, why would you have a petition for the modchip. It will have little affect on piracy of PSP games, and little or no affect on the amount of games sold. There are modchips for many current systems. It is not your choice whether someone solders a piece of plastic and metal onto a bigger piece of plastic and metal. There is really no point to this entire "I hate the modchip" concept." Go back to school and learn a little. Stupid teenagers....
This is off topic, but after reading these comment sections for a few days now I just couldn't handle it anymore. I'm not sure what it is, but the comment areas on PSPUpdates seem to exhibit some of the worst English I've ever seen. My grammar and spelling aren't perfect, but at least I make an effort. It's like you guys aren't even trying.
Anyway, I support the mod chip for homebrew. I don't foresee enough people using it to cause serious harm to the PSP's game sales. Most people don't possess the technical skills to install something like this, and very few even know about it.
UP is the future and more people will buy the psp to buy games and to play hombrews the psp will not die
at the end of the day this product does break piracy but it has the ability to fix bricked psps. i have a 1.5 and use it mainly for the homebrews but sony will be concerned with the piracy and will make the new type of umds completey unreadable for copying stopping it. Only problem is about the sony fix theyll be doing, what when and how and if it involves sending off and youve got a chunky mod chip in the back whats the guarantee that we would see it again or see a court fee.
once I f.arted and po.op came out.
to 112. u r a *****
to all chip suporters. HAHAHA UR GONNA BRICK UR PSP
to all sony ball lickers. u r *****s
to 1.5 users. JUST BE HAPPY
I found this Epsilon video whilst cruising around the Youtube website. Seems to show the BIOS running on 2.71 FW console.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o9lUs3I5WDM
where can i buy this mod chip?
YEAH I WILL BUY THE UD THATS FANTASTIC :)
WHAT DNB TRACK IS THAT PLAYING IN THE BACKGROUND OF THE VIDEO?!?! i need that rekkid!! anyone that knows tell me please!!
Now would be a good time to say: I told u so....
"CZroe (13 minutes ago)
It's a pretty cool remix of Voodoo People by Prodigy. Never one of my favorite Prodigy songs, but this mix sorta changes that. "
Modchips are lega, right?
In the USA, UK, and/or Canada?
"legal" is sort of vague on chips... I think in this case it is the epsilon software that will be illegal and not the chip itself.
how much is it i cant find pricess any were or im blind...
Nice find
