UPDATE #4: A few more installation pictures have surfaced showing detailed examples of the Undiluted Platinum Installation. These new images are much larger and will be extra handy when soldering in those small areas. We hope you put them to some good use.

UPDATE #3: Shortly after receiving and posting the PDF guide, we were informed that it contained some serious errors. If you downloaded the PDF before Tuesday, June 27, 12:00am (Noon) EST then please re-download the file.

UPDATE #2: The Undiluted Platinum Installation guide has just arrived, complete with disclaimers that the installation is for "skilled professionals only, and should not be attempted by amateurs" (Check images below). The installation guide is in a .pdf format, so you will need Adobe Reader to view this.

UPDATE #1: We've got diagrams for chip installation on TA-081 motherboards! Scroll down, guys! (The diagrams for the TA-080s will follow shortly.)

This just in hot off the presses from the dudes and dudettes behind the eagerly anticipated first PSP modchip, "Undiluted Platinum." Finally we have some concrete information on where the chip stands as far as PSP compatibility goes.

"The U.P. team have released the first set of installation diagrams for their upcoming modchip. The diagrams show installation position of the FPC cables , traces which require soldering of wire to and usage procedure of the installation aids. The first release is for Motherboard TA-079, with TA-080 and TA-081 to follow tomorrow. TA-082 is not supported, however, they seem to be limited to Asia and have 2.6 or above firmwares. We believe that overall numbers of TA-082 as a proportion compared with TA-079, TA-080 and TA-081, should be quite limited."

If that all sounds and looks like Sanskrit to you, fear not, we're here to transambulate the kooky techspeak for ya. Apparently 0okm was right when he stated that PSP's with TA-082 motherboards wouldn't be able to benefit from the sweet chip's modular magic, but don't panic, here's the skinny:

The chip will work with all PSP's that contain motherboards with model numbers TA-079, TA-080 and TA-081. However, the installation of the chip across these three motherboards will differ, the images below show the installation of the chip on a TA-079 motherboard.

UP Diagram - Image 1 UP Diagram - Image 2 UP Diagram - Image 3

As promised, here are the diagrams detailing installation on TA-081 boards (you can also download these from our DL site, have a look at the link down below):

UP Diagram - Image 3 UP Diagram - Image 2 UP Diagram - Image 1

The current iteration of the U.P. chip will NOT work on newer PSP's with motherboard models TA-082. The makers of Undiluted Platinum are however aware of this fact and according to our sources are working on a second generation chip to rectify the situation. As mentioned in the quote above, the number of PSP's with TA-082 motherboards is most likely very small, and most current PSP owners (especially in the states) should be in the clear and out of the woods.

This is NOT something we recommend to anyone without any previous soldering or modding experience. As a reminder, USA based ModChipStore.com will be providing 3 services for those of you that are lazy who don't have the time, or are afraid of breaking their PSP by installing this.
Keep watching QJ.NET and PSPUpdates, we'll keep you posted on all Undiluted Platinum news as soon as it breaks!

4 & 7 - are you both sure you have a TA-082 board? Have you opened your PSP to check? Do you have a recent PSP that came from Asia with 2.6 on it already (out of the box)?

The only way to tell really is to open it. the install pic shows the board to look at for the model number; though Oookm found his in a PSP-1006 (see his blog)

8 - the soldering will be a walk in the park if you have a low watt needle tip iron, its peeling the laquer and severing that one path that concerns me...

why we need a mod chip when we have Devhook. the verison 0.41d has everything we need for now. 2.60 no problem devhook can play it and umd also. hell u can make a back up iso and patch it then play it. initial is 2.60 and i have the umd and it work great.

6. The chip its self is 100% inside. The part you see just clips on and off the ribbon cable when you want to upgrade the firmware on the chip. When not in use you pull it off which means just the ribbon cable is left in the battery compartment and the battery fits ok.

You can get a PSP today for like $200. look hard enough you can do better. So obviously this is too much for those that cant solder themselves that already own a 1.5 or am happy with the brew they have on their 2.01+. I will probably end up buying a new one to supplement my homebrew machine just because I dont feel like trying to solder it and then having to buy another anyway, then ill be fooked in every way. Sorry, but soldering services and the chip price is just too high.

# Why Devhook is not enoughGuest 2006-06-21 01:30
In response to number ''13. » Pointless for now!''

Devhook only runs on 1.5 Psp's which are getting rare. Many people have 2.6 or higher firmware and eventually it will be very difficult to purchase 1.5's if your current one broke. This is where the Modchip comes in. Also the more Devs that will be given access to the 1.5 environment and no fear of bricking will mean the potential of more programs and innovation. If you don't look at the big picture then yea, the Modchip isn't needed because we have Devhook.

Whats the best solder tool to use for any thing that good to do with soldering a wire?

I found this one a long time ago, where it get hot real quick and then in a sec it gets really cold. Like quick solder and touch the solder's tip ( the hot part) and it wont burn you.

I can't wait for the video installation on where to solder it because it be better to see where to solder the wire hand on instead of just looking at the picture.

devhook? um devhook lets u youse higher firmwares on a 1.50 system. the main point of this chip is to allow psp users to DOWNGRADE a fw. so yes basically this mod is very useful and needed to keep homebrew alive. now if only an easier chip could be made.

If you open your psp, and they have to remove a few screw to see the motherboard, and you will what motherboard version you have.

Mines is TA-081 I updated mines to 2.70 just to play a game.

Im getting this because they said you dont need any loader to play iso, just put the iso in the game folder and then just load it like a demo and it should work.

Many ppl gonna brick their PSPs by soldering the wires wrong or in that case, spotting some solders on the other areas. The diagrams looks pretty hard to me atleast and not every1 out there has professional soldering skills. So many ppl would end up in screwing their psp and this out to buy a new 1. I can asume that Sony is gonna sell some good amount of units in near future.

Well I got my PSP like in March 2006 and it came with version 2.50 firmware here in the U.S. Modchipstore is saying that TA-082 is limited to PSP's in Asia mostly with 2.6 firmware, with some in the U.S.

Does this mean I have a TA-080 or TA-081?

Also, the print date on the manual says October 2005. Probably a chance that it is a TA-081 possibly?

I don't see how you could unbrick your PSP, because you don't cut the Write Enable and Read Enable pins, so you don't have a way to actually copy a new flash rom onto your current PSP... so if you are trying to unbrick a PSP and then take out the mod chip, I don't see how that could work.

# Way too expensiveGuest 2006-06-21 12:22
I have never seen a modchip cost $100, this is ridculous, I have a psp with 2.6 fw (had 1.5 but upgraded like an idiot) and this just doesn't seem worth it to me yet. It's too expensive, and too expensive to have professionally install. I have a friend who is good at soldering, but I am not sure if he's this good, this seems extremly difficult to install correctly. I think I will wait for alternatives, a downgrader for 2.6, or the price to drop on this by like $50.

This mod chip sounds great and all but its not at all affordable...On top of that the installation looks ridiculously tough...I paid a combined 80 dollars on modifying my ps2 and xbox...For the chips and installation...Why does the UP chip alone cost 100 dollars?

Id rather buy a second PSP than UP...Its pretty much the same price (for me since i cant solder) and i don't have to risk bricking my perfectly good rare 1.5...

Clearly the guys who came up with the UD prices are aiming for those retarded rich kids that were buying those 1000 dollar 360's off eBay...450 dollars on UP pre-modified psp is beyond ridiculous...A 20 gig ps3 will cost 500 dollars...NO PSP is worth 450 dollars...

Wow!! $200 for installation, You're better off buying another PSP for that price and have 1 homebrew and 1 game ready. I'm guessing they're charging that much because they don't know really know how to solder it on, and if they screw up, they won't lose as much when they have to give you a brand new psp with it the modchip soldered on. Which costs $400 for some god awful reason at their site.

most people paid somewhere around 200 bucks for their psp then if they got no solder skills 200 more bucks

any idiot who buys a premodded one(450 bucks) is effin retarded

then the suggested price of the chip is 129.99 then they sell it for 100 so they knock off $30

and to the person who said the price is ridiculous..... i definitely agree. dont buy this chip if u dont got solder skills; instead buy a new psp so then 1 for homebrew and 1 for umds.

and my friend who is pretty good at soldering informed me that its pretty d*** hard to solder a psp cause you might fry the motherboard trying to solder it and that you have to have an extremely light hand to even think of attempting to solder on the chip and that it would be better to make a small structure and sorta plug a chip in to that structure so u dont risk messing up your psp. and he said he would solder mine in for me but thats irrelevant

100 bucks for the modchip? I can get another PSP on eBay for that...and since i don't know a damn thing about soldering stuff...i'd have to pay 200 for them to do it for me...It's super that they were able to make a modchip and all, but I might as well just go with the sure thing and buy another PSP...You never know if somehow the Sony folks'll figure out a way to screw modchip owners too...

the soldering looks about a 5 on a level 1-10. it really shouldn't be that hard. go to radioshack and buy a fine tip, tin all the wires, touch it to the point, heat it up a bit and you should be good to go. I can't believe everyone's making such a big deal about this. I mean yeah, if you've never soldered before then it might be tough, but then again, if you haven't then you prolly shouldn't be taking apart your psp in the first place. do yourself a favor, go learn about electronics, build some circuits, install some modchips, and then try. you'll be better off, because if any of your electronics break, you'll be able to fix it.

Owning 2 psp's is risk free, cheaper, and you can keep your fw1.5 PSP in great condition by not using it all the time. This mod chip is a ripoff, installation is a ripoff, and a pre-modded PSP another ripoff (how do you even know it's new?). If you buy a second PSP, buy it used so Sony doesn't make more money. I thought most of you knew this, but some of you apparently not: NEVER "UPGRADE" PSP FIRMWARE!!!

@Funkingwangsta : All the guy said was that "demand was high" by that I am assuming they havent sold out yet. I asked him whether the 944 in stock that the web page was displaying was correct and he said "Yes it is, we only received them 20 mins ago". That was around 4.30pm UK time. I also asked if he had tried one and he said not yet, due to only receiving them. And finally, I enquired about their mod chip installation option and he confirmed that for £85 (which includes the chip) they will install it and send it back to you. (If they break it, they replace it with a new PSP (not compatible with U.P.)) Hope that helps!

Quick answer to those that wonder if they could do it- if you have soldered a chip on the PS2- early 30 or so wire versions- if you did that successfuly, then you could do this PSP modchip. Xbox could be soldered w/ your eyes closed, so that doesn't count.

Hey guys, download the nand-dump.flash file that has the 1.5 firmware here:

http://tacticalro.deltaanime.net/nand-dump.flash

^^^ File available at 4:45 PM CST ^^^

Click "Save". Size : 30.7 MB, as NAND Dumper stated that the dump will be around 33 MB ;)

WARNING: This nand dump WAS NOT DUMPED FROM A 1.5 PSP. IT WAS MADE BY DOWNLOADING THE 1.5 DUMP FROM PSP-HACKS AND ADDING FLASH0 AND FLASH1 FOLDERS AND CREATING A BIN USING ULTRAISO.

IT WAS THEN RENAMED TO .FLASH SO IT CAN BE COMPATIBLE WITH U.P FLASHER

This is the worlds first user-made 1.5 U.P dump without dumping from an actual PSP 1.5

*** USE THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK. I AM NOT LIABLE FOR ANYTHING THAT HAPPENS TO YOUR U.P PSP | Remember that the U.P can be reflashed anywayz| SINCE AGAIN THIS HAS NOT NOT NOT BEEN TESTED ***

People shouldnt jump on these first gen modchips espically with all the soldering you have to do, look at the xbox modchips they started out with an unreal amount of soldering and now have them down to a 7 wire install and or a no a soldering with pushpins. this is a great step in the dev of modchips but its mostly gunna benefit homebrew dev's.

my 2 cents.

If you havent seen my video, Sony needs to have the balls to remake the PCB, or go threaten us to open the PSP and install a larger NAND to detect modchips, or something, but a goddamn limited access firmware which only has kernel access to games and the settings are read-only type information will NOT be able to block a modchip.

GUYS, THE UNDILUTED PLATINUM IS JUST A NAND.. NOTHING ELSE.. IT DOESNT HAVE AN OS... NOTHING! THE U.P DOESNT REMOVE THE REGION CODING RIGHT ON MOVIES? IT IS JUST A SOLDERING OF ANOTHER NAND CHIP TO STORE ANOTHER FIRMWARE ON

STOP DEALING ON SONY TRYING TO SAY THEY ARE GONNA BLOCK U.P CUZ THEY ARE NOT, AND MY VID PROVES IT (I HOPE)

Hey guys !

i was just checking the installation plans for the undiluted modchip and i can tell you this : If you get that modchip, then youll really kill your psp ! and i dont mean brick it i mean kill it !!! i explain myself : I'm an Cable and Internet installer and i studied in electronics, cables and satellite installation...........and i can tell this, when i first watched the modchip i was like : Oh my god ! How many person are gonna kill their psp ! The fact of the matter is this: You cannot (or should not) solder a wire directly over a circuit path or els that psth will get off its board and could even just rip of the board....wich would kill your psp ! After that, I've learned at school that soldering is harder than i tought, you have to check the temp so the soldering point is really fixed for good , then it should not stay too much long at high temp or so the path is going to lift of the board and i think you should know that a bad solder results in bad connection or even no connection at all.....You think that's all......hell no ! If you managed to get all that working well (and i don't think you will) , youll have to pay attention to another thing wich is very important, you should never again (i cant do that) drop your psp on the ground or else there is about 80 % chances that you just broke one of the soldering point.......and after that is you get it working again by soldering that point your a king i tell you.......

.......so i leads to this; I (probably unless there is something very better like 5 solder point on psx) will never pay that monstruous price for a piece of an extra (hard to install) psp board wich has a 90% chance to KILL MY PSP !!!

Sorry But That's My Point !! Hope It'll Won't You Mad At Me !!

As a "résumé" i could say this: If you'r lucky like me and still on 2.00- firmware, just stick with fanjita and his eLoader and for 2.71 and ++ just get another psp cuz its woth it...and if your st*p*d enough (i don't like to insult people) to get that modchip for half the price of that other BRAND NEW (maybe white) psp than I REALLY THINK that you have 90% chance to KILL YOUR PSP !!

Well, I'm sorry i took the whole page but i think it was worth it.......HOMEBREW FOREVER ! LONG LIFE FANJITA !!

dood, a retarded blind monkey could install internet and cable/satellite. That bit at the end doesn't look like a list of qualifications to me (pick up a dictionary and learn to speak english). Soldering is not that difficult. you won't lift the trace unless you have like a 50 watt soldering iron and hold it on the trace for 5 minutes. you're teacher in your electronics class must have been an asshat, because I've been soldering, modding, and fixing electronics for years, and I could pull this off in about 30 minutes. Sure, If you've never touched a soldering iron before, don't try this. otherwise, it's really not that hard.

But you can go elsewhere people to get it installed!?!?

To 139 man i don't mean to be rude but your soldering must be c**p plus once it's stuck to the trace the only way it's gonna move is if you rip it off trace and all?!?(I've been practising removing the enamal and soldering to a trace wire on a similar board so trust me!!) check this link for a better explanation and a pic.

For those of you that can't solder or don't want to. There is an alternative that works great and, in fact, is used quite often in SMT repair: electrically conductive adhesives (basically, glue that conducts electricity. If you can use super glue, you can use this stuff).

There are many different types (acrylic, epoxy, etc.), here is one that works damn good:

It's also handy for repairing broken traces.
