Undiluted Platinum: Install Diagrams and Compatibility Update! - Fresh Update: Installation Guide |
Ó

UPDATE #4: A few more installation pictures have surfaced showing detailed examples of the Undiluted Platinum Installation. These new images are much larger and will be extra handy when soldering in those small areas. We hope you put them to some good use.
UPDATE #3: Shortly after receiving and posting the PDF guide, we were informed that it contained some serious errors. If you downloaded the PDF before Tuesday, June 27, 12:00am (Noon) EST then please re-download the file.
UPDATE #2: The Undiluted Platinum Installation guide has just arrived, complete with disclaimers that the installation is for "skilled professionals only, and should not be attempted by amateurs" (Check images below). The installation guide is in a .pdf format, so you will need Adobe Reader to view this.
UPDATE #1: We've got diagrams for chip installation on TA-081 motherboards! Scroll down, guys! (The diagrams for the TA-080s will follow shortly.)
This just in hot off the presses from the dudes and dudettes behind the eagerly anticipated first PSP modchip, "Undiluted Platinum." Finally we have some concrete information on where the chip stands as far as PSP compatibility goes.
"The U.P. team have released the first set of installation diagrams for their upcoming modchip. The diagrams show installation position of the FPC cables , traces which require soldering of wire to and usage procedure of the installation aids. The first release is for Motherboard TA-079, with TA-080 and TA-081 to follow tomorrow. TA-082 is not supported, however, they seem to be limited to Asia and have 2.6 or above firmwares. We believe that overall numbers of TA-082 as a proportion compared with TA-079, TA-080 and TA-081, should be quite limited."
If that all sounds and looks like Sanskrit to you, fear not, we're here to transambulate the kooky techspeak for ya. Apparently 0okm was right when he stated that PSP's with TA-082 motherboards wouldn't be able to benefit from the sweet chip's modular magic, but don't panic, here's the skinny:
The chip will work with all PSP's that contain motherboards with model numbers TA-079, TA-080 and TA-081. However, the installation of the chip across these three motherboards will differ, the images below show the installation of the chip on a TA-079 motherboard.

Wow that looks like it will be a bit*ch to solder. Good luck to anyone who attempts this.
you *****cing *****cer. i was just about to post this. sheit.
Oh hell yeah I'm gonna cram one of these suckers in my 2.71 and to be honest, could give a ***** less if I ***** it up (the PSP). But I can solder, so it shouldn't be a prob.
pre-ordered... then found out it wont work on new psp! i got mine 01/06. came with 2.01. i guess i'm screwed!
I hope i comes with a very fine tipped Soldering Iron and some small Solder because some of those point OMFG!!!!
just one question... If the chip fits in the battery compartment, where is the batter gonna go???
does "Undiluted Platinum" support PSP new ver. hardware(TA-082) ? i don't think so ! http://0okm.blogspot.com/2006/05/does-undiluted-platinum-support-psp.html on next ver. they can support TA-082 ? i wish they can, but ..... :P
those look like some small points to solder compared to other mod chips this is going to be hard for most people to solder to i bet alot of people buy that $100 install nation service this must mean its coming out soon
if you have a 1.5 psp dont get the mob chip... I would never put that thing in my psp I got Dev hook and thats all i need to play games right now.. there is only one way i would buy this if they made some really cool custom firmware other then that ***** the mob chip i like my softmoded psp how it is!
the way you now look at pictures on this site, for around the last week SUX!!!!! and im sure im not the only one that feels this way change it back (not like u will anyway)
4 & 7 - are you both sure you have a TA-082 board? Have you opened your PSP to check? Do you have a recent PSP that came from Asia with 2.6 on it already (out of the box)? The only way to tell really is to open it. the install pic shows the board to look at for the model number; though Oookm found his in a PSP-1006 (see his blog) 8 - the soldering will be a walk in the park if you have a low watt needle tip iron, its peeling the laquer and severing that one path that concerns me...

why we need a mod chip when we have Devhook. the verison 0.41d has everything we need for now. 2.60 no problem devhook can play it and umd also. hell u can make a back up iso and patch it then play it. initial is 2.60 and i have the umd and it work great.
that looks like a ***** to install... I'm getting a proffesionnal to do this.
6. The chip its self is 100% inside. The part you see just clips on and off the ribbon cable when you want to upgrade the firmware on the chip. When not in use you pull it off which means just the ribbon cable is left in the battery compartment and the battery fits ok.
This will be a pretty hard work, but Anyway, i'll have to check my PCB version before doin' anything. if it's only a supply voltage issue, i hope it'll be solve^^
Yeah baby,i have a 2.50
yeah we have dovhook but does it allow 2.7 games ? and does it allow running custom firmwares ?
to get one! I will be purchasing one very soon!
Hi I have a White Japanese PSP that came with 2.0 and now has 2.71. Will the UP work with my PSP? It's a PSP1000 btw. Thanks, `Mike
PSP-1000 (Box Code H) come with FW1.50 also is TA-082 PCB !! check your pcb ver before buy !!
>> 17 PSP-1000 (Box Code H) come with FW2.50 also is TA-082 PCB !! check your pcb ver before buy !!
The diagram is all messed up, all the thumbnails take to part 1/3. Please fix this. Thank you.
You can get a PSP today for like $200. look hard enough you can do better. So obviously this is too much for those that cant solder themselves that already own a 1.5 or am happy with the brew they have on their 2.01+. I will probably end up buying a new one to supplement my homebrew machine just because I dont feel like trying to solder it and then having to buy another anyway, then ill be fooked in every way. Sorry, but soldering services and the chip price is just too high.
I havent got round to opening my psp yet.. but it's a psp-1000 that had 1.0 firmware that i bought from Japan on realese....therefore am i pretty much guarenteed that this chip will work with mine!??!? Plus ive been soldering for 14yrs so hopefully this shouldnt be too much trouble to install....should it?!?!
I have a PSP-1007K with firmware 1.52, would the UP work with my PSP?
Com up dude u got FW 1.0 don't risk it FW1.0 is like the rarest one in the world right now don't risk it with the UP, u can just buy new psp from asia on ebay and use U.P. aite? safe your FW1.0 psp
In response to number ''13. » Pointless for now!'' Devhook only runs on 1.5 Psp's which are getting rare. Many people have 2.6 or higher firmware and eventually it will be very difficult to purchase 1.5's if your current one broke. This is where the Modchip comes in. Also the more Devs that will be given access to the 1.5 environment and no fear of bricking will mean the potential of more programs and innovation. If you don't look at the big picture then yea, the Modchip isn't needed because we have Devhook.
How do I know which motherboard my PSP has, before opening it? Is there a number on the packaging box that'll help me with this? Thankz
no
Habe zui glück das TA-081 Mainboard also lasst den Modchip endlich kommen:-)
Whats the best solder tool to use for any thing that good to do with soldering a wire? I found this one a long time ago, where it get hot real quick and then in a sec it gets really cold. Like quick solder and touch the solder's tip ( the hot part) and it wont burn you. I can't wait for the video installation on where to solder it because it be better to see where to solder the wire hand on instead of just looking at the picture.
Actually,mine is an 1004,but i'll have a check.
devhook? um devhook lets u youse higher firmwares on a 1.50 system. the main point of this chip is to allow psp users to DOWNGRADE a fw. so yes basically this mod is very useful and needed to keep homebrew alive. now if only an easier chip could be made.
now a solderless chip like on xbox would be brilliant, wont see one of those for yonks tho.
damn i really want this chip since my dumbass upgraded to 2.7 and im now bored out my mind, but say we were to get this chip have tons of fun, but when fall comes along sony releases that fall update with a patch that blocks the mod chip and denies us the ability to play upcoming games such as vice city stories and that new socom...what would we do :(
your talking about yourself or someone else. just confused. you could buy a new psp on ebay fw1.50 or fw2.00 for the same amount as the mod chip, i just bought mine on ebay for $181 shipped.
How can you see which version (for example TA-082) your PSP is?
If i bought mine in january 06, do i have posibility????? someone please tell me!!!!!
and also remember that "the modchipstore" will not be the only place to have this krap installed.
just think If you fail you will have your mod chip and a pretty paperweight on your deskk
If you open your psp, and they have to remove a few screw to see the motherboard, and you will what motherboard version you have. Mines is TA-081 I updated mines to 2.70 just to play a game. Im getting this because they said you dont need any loader to play iso, just put the iso in the game folder and then just load it like a demo and it should work.
yes (#30 is gay)
Many ppl gonna brick their PSPs by soldering the wires wrong or in that case, spotting some solders on the other areas. The diagrams looks pretty hard to me atleast and not every1 out there has professional soldering skills. So many ppl would end up in screwing their psp and this out to buy a new 1. I can asume that Sony is gonna sell some good amount of units in near future.
it cost way too much money to have them install it, let alone buy it.
when sony releases a patch. the UP people will just release a new flash to override it. firmware is just software. but this is hardware
glad i just got a 1.5 off ebay for the same price they want to install! no way would i send my only psp out AND spend the price of a new one just for this. Glad i got a 2.6 for upgrading and my 1.5 in two days!
to #24: very much agreed. the chip is mainly for bricked psps and devs, rite now ill stick to my 1.5 and use devhook ;] and to all you ppl who dont know what motherboard you have..... then try this, when you bought your psp, what version was it? if its like 1.0 or 1.5, your probably all set, but use the version! plz dont take my post down because of my OPINION, i could be wrong as i am also a human.
so basically the modchip wont support TA-082 because it wont fit
Well I got my PSP like in March 2006 and it came with version 2.50 firmware here in the U.S. Modchipstore is saying that TA-082 is limited to PSP's in Asia mostly with 2.6 firmware, with some in the U.S. Does this mean I have a TA-080 or TA-081? Also, the print date on the manual says October 2005. Probably a chance that it is a TA-081 possibly?
Re no 6 the usb bit will detach and the little cable will just sit there. you will still be able to put your battery in it. Re: 50 only one way to find out open it
Just wait for 0okm's module to come out, which will be next month. it's cheaper and easier to sodder. The u.p. looks like crap anyways.
it pisses me off that it doesn't show the modchip anywhere in the installation process.
just remeber to look out for me when the chip comes out to install it for you i'll make my prices resonable, i got a long history of modchip installations, check me on xbox-scene as jhnblckwood.....bring on the modchip!!!
I have a white jap psp, it had 2.01 f/w on it and is model number psp1000, can anyone tell me what pcb version i have? or direct me somewhere i can check because i dont want to open my psp to see i have the wrong version.
What if sony comes out with a new model psp like nintendo did with the DS. PSP light.... then what? think sony will do that?
I don't see how you could unbrick your PSP, because you don't cut the Write Enable and Read Enable pins, so you don't have a way to actually copy a new flash rom onto your current PSP... so if you are trying to unbrick a PSP and then take out the mod chip, I don't see how that could work.
I have never seen a modchip cost $100, this is ridculous, I have a psp with 2.6 fw (had 1.5 but upgraded like an idiot) and this just doesn't seem worth it to me yet. It's too expensive, and too expensive to have professionally install. I have a friend who is good at soldering, but I am not sure if he's this good, this seems extremly difficult to install correctly. I think I will wait for alternatives, a downgrader for 2.6, or the price to drop on this by like $50.
I have the TA-079 motherboard and my psp is region 1001 and it is a virgen 1.5 no scratches at all....then i have my other 2.71 with region 1001 and has no scratches and is the TA-079....I have the best of both worlds plus i pre-ordered 2 modchips:)))))))
This mod chip sounds great and all but its not at all affordable...On top of that the installation looks ridiculously tough...I paid a combined 80 dollars on modifying my ps2 and xbox...For the chips and installation...Why does the UP chip alone cost 100 dollars? Id rather buy a second PSP than UP...Its pretty much the same price (for me since i cant solder) and i don't have to risk bricking my perfectly good rare 1.5... Clearly the guys who came up with the UD prices are aiming for those retarded rich kids that were buying those 1000 dollar 360's off eBay...450 dollars on UP pre-modified psp is beyond ridiculous...A 20 gig ps3 will cost 500 dollars...NO PSP is worth 450 dollars...
Can anyone clarify for me, without me having to crack my PSP open until I buy the UP, what version my motherboard is? I bought my PSP in May 2005, and it was originally 1.5 firmware.
there is no need to buy 2 modchips if 1 of his so called psps can already run homebrew
where's the farking 40, 80gb drive support :p haha
Unless you got an extended warranty, just crack it open as it's already over a year old - and you should be at the right level anyway.
Will it work on my psp1004 G psp?
I loke the modchip, but the price is way too high. And I still have 1.50, so I'm probebly not going to get it.
Depending on your model number do you need a certain chip????
God updating my psp was tragic. I wanted GTA so bad i updated my 1.5 I know I know im a moron! i was crying while it was updating LOL!
why does everyone have an orgasm when they hear MODCHIP, dammn who cares about this.
GTA only upgrades to 2.0, and if you bought a later version of GTA, you could have just run the umd with a loader man.... That's really sad. I only plan to buy a modchip if I brick my 1.5, it's waaaay too expensive right now, and much too complicated.
what about psp-1001 what kind is he? TA-079? TA-080? TA-081? TA-082?
my psp is a 1003 (uk) and had 2.1 on it when i got it. but now i upgraded to 2.71 :[ after i got board with the eloader. i used 2 hav a 1.5 upgraded to a 2.6 but i swapped it wit sony cos of dead pixels and thats how i got my 2.1. the only prob is i have my old box so i dont know wat the box code thingy is 4 my psp at the mo. do u know wether u.p. will work with my psp? it doesnt have any writing in the umd tray like u sed bfore so does that mean it will work? thanks alot ;D
WE NEED A VIDEO PLEASE THAT WOULD BRING LOTS OF HITS TO THIS SITE AND HELP LOTS OF NOOB < LOL LIKE MYSELF
Deleting well worded comments that just /happen/ to be skeptical, eh? Kudos...
My mistake. Feel free to delete both of these comments... -_-
dont buy form them, they will be other stores selling them soon for maybe less, but the installation should only cost maybe $30. NOT $100!!! damn, I sugest just buying two PSPs like I did a while back. Trust me guys, wait for imitations of the modchip that will be cheaper and wait for better stores to sell them at better prices.
i got two so i can have both running homebrew on each of their 512 sticks(i got that deal that gets u three)and use one everyday and one for a backup incase my psp breaks externally
I cant open the file as windows can't read it. Wot app do i need
Wow!! $200 for installation, You're better off buying another PSP for that price and have 1 homebrew and 1 game ready. I'm guessing they're charging that much because they don't know really know how to solder it on, and if they screw up, they won't lose as much when they have to give you a brand new psp with it the modchip soldered on. Which costs $400 for some god awful reason at their site.
awsome! cant wait to see this in action.
most people paid somewhere around 200 bucks for their psp then if they got no solder skills 200 more bucks any idiot who buys a premodded one(450 bucks) is effin retarded then the suggested price of the chip is 129.99 then they sell it for 100 so they knock off $30 and to the person who said the price is ridiculous..... i definitely agree. dont buy this chip if u dont got solder skills; instead buy a new psp so then 1 for homebrew and 1 for umds. and my friend who is pretty good at soldering informed me that its pretty d*** hard to solder a psp cause you might fry the motherboard trying to solder it and that you have to have an extremely light hand to even think of attempting to solder on the chip and that it would be better to make a small structure and sorta plug a chip in to that structure so u dont risk messing up your psp. and he said he would solder mine in for me but thats irrelevant
100 bucks for the modchip? I can get another PSP on eBay for that...and since i don't know a damn thing about soldering stuff...i'd have to pay 200 for them to do it for me...It's super that they were able to make a modchip and all, but I might as well just go with the sure thing and buy another PSP...You never know if somehow the Sony folks'll figure out a way to screw modchip owners too...
I love mod chips. HAHHA my 1st xbox one had 29 solder points and this looks way more confusing. I recomend you just get one preinstalled. I'm sure some pro's will do it for around $50. WARNING DONT ATTEMPT YOURSELF SEND TO EXPERT!
I didnt know it was even out or is it just u buy it as in like preorderin it then they send it u when it comes out?
This is Fake. GG
i would pay more than 100 bucks for the millions of iso games u get free
Its a start. It seems they have a good product, but its pricy and install looks difficult (but what did you expect). I'm sure more mod chips will come out and we'll see the price drop significantly.
I'm confused here! It shows the soldering job on the motherboard but how do you connect the FPS cable to the ModChip?!
where is this mod chip store
i dont know how to do that *****
@87 patience is the key here.. In a few months other people will create another chip and the prices will decrease.. so just wait..!! and I find the solding looking quite easy actually..
It will kill MANY PSPs.
the soldering looks about a 5 on a level 1-10. it really shouldn't be that hard. go to radioshack and buy a fine tip, tin all the wires, touch it to the point, heat it up a bit and you should be good to go. I can't believe everyone's making such a big deal about this. I mean yeah, if you've never soldered before then it might be tough, but then again, if you haven't then you prolly shouldn't be taking apart your psp in the first place. do yourself a favor, go learn about electronics, build some circuits, install some modchips, and then try. you'll be better off, because if any of your electronics break, you'll be able to fix it.

Owning 2 psp's is risk free, cheaper, and you can keep your fw1.5 PSP in great condition by not using it all the time. This mod chip is a ripoff, installation is a ripoff, and a pre-modded PSP another ripoff (how do you even know it's new?). If you buy a second PSP, buy it used so Sony doesn't make more money. I thought most of you knew this, but some of you apparently not: NEVER "UPGRADE" PSP FIRMWARE!!!
#88 I'd also like to know how the fpc connects to the chip -- anyone?
Sony don't get profits from hardware sales.
this is a fake!
you sux
all of you peeps bithcing what wrong whith you be happy that ther is a mod chip its the first one probelaby more will come. i think a lot of you ppl are greedy .
any1 ere gt mod chip frm www.modchip-store.co.uk
any1 ere gt mod chip frm www.modchip-store.co.uk
can't beleive nobody got it working yet !! come on hurry up with that soldering already :) or isn't it working...huh
sony used to not be making money of psp's, but now it cost them somewhere around 150 to make a psp.
Guys, use some common sense here. The DevHook ONLY EMULATES THE 2.5 FIRMWARE FEATURES! What happens with the 2.6+ features?! Now, you understand?! Get the Undiluted Platinum! YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wil i be able to play socom(the umd version ofcourse)online with this chip? when thats true ii will buy
Yea, it will bypass the require firmware, but there is already a loader that will work with Socom umd. I think Devhook iso loader ( new version like 0.40) will work.
Most of the people here i think only cares is able to playing homebrews and run homebrew appz and run iso without a loader.
yes i ordered a chip from modchip_store.co.uk chips not due in yet maybe moro...
quick just buy a 1.5 you f.u.c.k.i.n.g.losers.
@109 I phoned them today and the guy I spoke to said to me they had just arrived 20 mins ago and they have 950 in stock.....
Sounds like your a TA-082 boarders? huh. Your quote: "Look at me, I cant doing nothing, this UP modchip wont work on my psp even though I have a the latest firmware". "My psp is trash now". "I cant play homebrew, damn 1.50s people and UP people and their modchip". "Why don't I just cuss at them that I wont be one that will enjoy this modchip."
@111 arrisB yeah baby!!! I ordered mine on sunday which means my order prolly would'nt have been processed til monday don't spose by some small chance you have any idea how many ideas have been placed with them!?!? When did you place yours? and are you installing yours yourself?........sorry for the 20 questions
i meant orders sorry how many orders
sounds awsome. it seems kinda expensive though with the preinstallation.
has any1 sent there psp off 2 modchip-store.co.uk? p.s. u dudes are all safe exsept 4 people who brag bout 1st post woooo 1st post ...WHAT THE HELL!
@Funkingwangsta: All the guy said was that "demand was high" by that I am assuming they havent sold out yet. I asked him whether the 944 in stock that the web page was displaying was correct and he said "Yes it is, we only received them 20 mins ago". That was around 4.30pm UK time. I also asked if he had tried one and he said not yet, due to only receiving them. And finally, I enquired about their mod chip installation option and he confirmed that for £85 (which includes the chip) they will install it and send it back to you. (If they break it, they replace it with a new PSP (not compatible with U.P.)) Hope that helps!
How hard is this to install I know someone who can install ths for free for me execpet he's not a pro all's he has done is install an xbox mod chip also he's soldered alot of small stuff b 4 do you think he could do this? Also i got my PSP the day of it's realese so will it be compatible?
@Funkingwangsta: I forgot to add, I havent ordered one yet. I will be paying the £30 for the ModchipStore guys to install it for me. I think its well worth that amount of cash. :)
I lick the modchips and slap them off the table, mans.
@arrisB cheers dude that does help i'm gonna be doing mine myself though!! @EHER0Z It's a fairly hard install but with experience it should be no problem UN as they should do tell people it's a pro job who wants tons of people contacting the mod stores they are supplying with loads of complaints/problems it's easier for them to say leave it to the pro's (plus mod companys make a nice sum on installs) So if your friend has seen the guide has been told about the pro bit and still thinks it's easy ....and he is not a *****y s**t and you trust him then let him do it but dont blame him if he f**ks it up!!
Quick answer to those that wonder if they could do it- if you have soldered a chip on the PS2- early 30 or so wire versions- if you did that successfuly, then you could do this PSP modchip. Xbox could be soldered w/ your eyes closed, so that doesn't count.
*** THIS HAS NOT BEEN TESTED******** Hey guys, download the nand-dump.flash file that has the 1.5 firmware here: http://tacticalro.deltaanime.net/nand-dump.flash ^^^ File available at 4:45 PM CST ^^^ Click "Save". So how sure are you this will work my learned young dude???!?! And what time will it be available GMT
even if you're very skilled at soldering, you'll most likely ruin it, beware! I've been modding ps1 and Ps2 for the last couple of years and i won't even THINK of installing this one.
Um 4:30 passed 35 minutes ago from this posting. It's available now. And if it doesnt work, its not the end of the world. The U.P is undestructible and as well can be reflashed. Thats why the U.P has more than a NAND chip in it. ;)
yeah but....... what makes you think it might work i.e. how did you come to that conclusion? plus the server you hosted it on is down can you stick it on another file hoster?!?
i got my PSP the day of it's realese so will it be compatible? think it will.
Um no its not down Funker. I dont know if it works or not, as I have no modchip yet. I will test it out when my PSP comes back from MCS. And there is a chance that when you click Read Flash it will say "Invalid flash dump" or something. It was just a test of putting flash0 and flash1 of 1.5 to a flash dump file. Nothing else ;)
People shouldnt jump on these first gen modchips espically with all the soldering you have to do, look at the xbox modchips they started out with an unreal amount of soldering and now have them down to a 7 wire install and or a no a soldering with pushpins. this is a great step in the dev of modchips but its mostly gunna benefit homebrew dev's. my 2 cents.
Really, soldering isn't as hard as you make it out to be... and if you aren't sure about this, just buy a cheap ($15) soldering iron and see if it's for you...
man i'm looking forward to getting this baby up and running!! and to kaidus I do agree except really it's for people who alot of bit of expierience with a soldering iron other than that part you should be fine with it!! and to freyyr890 Your completely right though i would say practise makes perfect and just don't use this chip and your psp to practise with!?!? ;-)
man i hope you get what i mean^^^
If you havent seen my video, Sony needs to have the balls to remake the PCB, or go threaten us to open the PSP and install a larger NAND to detect modchips, or something, but a goddamn limited access firmware which only has kernel access to games and the settings are read-only type information will NOT be able to block a modchip. GUYS, THE UNDILUTED PLATINUM IS JUST A NAND.. NOTHING ELSE.. IT DOESNT HAVE AN OS... NOTHING! THE U.P DOESNT REMOVE THE REGION CODING RIGHT ON MOVIES? IT IS JUST A SOLDERING OF ANOTHER NAND CHIP TO STORE ANOTHER FIRMWARE ON STOP DEALING ON SONY TRYING TO SAY THEY ARE GONNA BLOCK U.P CUZ THEY ARE NOT, AND MY VID PROVES IT (I HOPE)
freyyr890 : Actually I can get a 30-watt soldering iron for 3.99 at Big Lots :D Well guys modchips should be arriving to ppl in a few days, and I do believe that many installation vids and tests will pop up. ModChipStore already have theirs done with the custom installation guide they have ;) And well guys unfortunately Pox of PSP Hacking 101 will simply deny dumping their 1.5 firmware, because mainly they dont want to be sued by Sony. Scary rednecks right? Many ppl and websites have posted dumps and not a single warning. POX AND RAG = "Who cares about the dark side? Stop saying your s**t and just post it!" >:( So uh yeah.. and also when I get my PSP back I am going to make a video of me testing it out ;) and MAYBE open the PSP to see how MCS did it...... if my parents let me open my precious ONE more time!!!!!!

i solders stuffs for a living and let me tell you this is going to kill MANY psps. Really not worth the hassle if you're on 1.5 or 1.0. Oh you're on 2.5+? well, you lose, get a 1.50, it'll cost you the same as a UP + installation ahah
Hey guys ! i was just checking the installation plans for the undiluted modchip and i can tell you this : If you get that modchip, then youll really kill your psp ! and i dont mean brick it i mean kill it !!! i explain myself : I'm an Cable and Internet installer and i studied in electronics, cables and satellite installation...........and i can tell this, when i first watched the modchip i was like : Oh my god ! How many person are gonna kill their psp ! The fact of the matter is this: You cannot (or should not) solder a wire directly over a circuit path or els that psth will get off its board and could even just rip of the board....wich would kill your psp ! After that, I've learned at school that soldering is harder than i tought, you have to check the temp so the soldering point is really fixed for good , then it should not stay too much long at high temp or so the path is going to lift of the board and i think you should know that a bad solder results in bad connection or even no connection at all.....You think that's all......hell no ! If you managed to get all that working well (and i don't think you will) , youll have to pay attention to another thing wich is very important, you should never again (i cant do that) drop your psp on the ground or else there is about 80 % chances that you just broke one of the soldering point.......and after that is you get it working again by soldering that point your a king i tell you....... .......so i leads to this; I (probably unless there is something very better like 5 solder point on psx) will never pay that monstruous price for a piece of an extra (hard to install) psp board wich has a 90% chance to KILL MY PSP !!! Sorry But That's My Point !! Hope It'll Won't You Mad At Me !! As a "résumé" i could say this: If you'r lucky like me and still on 2.00- firmware, just stick with fanjita and his eLoader and for 2.71 and ++ just get another psp cuz its woth it...and if your st*p*d enough (i don't like to insult people) to get that modchip for half the price of that other BRAND NEW (maybe white) psp than I REALLY THINK that you have 90% chance to KILL YOUR PSP !! Well, I'm sorry i took the whole page but i think it was worth it.......HOMEBREW FOREVER ! LONG LIFE FANJITA !!
dood, a retarded blind monkey could install internet and cable/satellite. That bit at the end doesn't look like a list of qualifications to me (pick up a dictionary and learn to speak english). Soldering is not that difficult. you won't lift the trace unless you have like a 50 watt soldering iron and hold it on the trace for 5 minutes. you're teacher in your electronics class must have been an asshat, because I've been soldering, modding, and fixing electronics for years, and I could pull this off in about 30 minutes. Sure, If you've never touched a soldering iron before, don't try this. otherwise, it's really not that hard.
Could u guys please stop using .rar? I cant but winRAR and like my trial is almost up. Without it...ill never be able to open .rar files and i will be totlally scrwed.
wtf are you talkin about? I've been using the winrar trial edition for as long as I can remember, it just keeps popping up asking you to register whenever you run it. .rar provides way better compression than zip.
I kinda have to agree to some of you, ill wait for price drop somewhere, and then get it, 449 is just too much rite now, i have that much but its for ps3, plus, with the 2.6 kernel, we can prob start emulating 2.6 on our 1.5s, hey its not much different from 2.7 except the flash player...
Please re-make your site compatible with firefox tabs, it gets annoying using the yogurt-fairy way with the pop up pictures. It used to not do this, but untill you changed I feel like you guys downgraded on the sites design.
Oh Yeah PS: Like it's a party on my mouse untill I get to the pictures, and then it's aggrivating clicks. What is QJ gonna do with all that junk, all that junk inside that picture viewing trunk?
If i buy that chip wich transportation option should i use to get is as fast as possible(i live in the Netherlands/Holland)
I agree with 140 don't do it if you can't solder! But if you can and your patient go ahead! I dunno why people complain so much about the price of the chip installation and the pre fitted psp's i would'nt dream of spending that much cash!...... But you can go elsewhere people to get it installed!?!? To 139 man i don't mean to be rude but your soldering must be c**p plus once it's stuck to the trace the only way it's gonna move is if you rip it off trace and all?!?(I've been practising removing the enamal and soldering to a trace wire on a similar board so trust me!!) And also there is no movement inside the case it's a snug fit plus if your dropping it then sweet jesus i would be more worried about the fact that your dropping it let alone there being a chip inside!!
cbmaster don't open your PSP!!! plenty more people will show it being fitted you wont be doing anybody any favours LEAVE IT ALONE and if i was your folks and i had just payed for that to be done i'de kick you ass!! Trust me this is coming from aguy who started to take things apart when i was about 11!! Live by the rule only open it if it's broken/needing modification!! especially if you have broke other psp's before!! :-)

As I said I am still thinking of opening the PSP, whether my parents let me or not, as I stated before....
www.kotaku.com/gaming/sony/psp-271-firmware-finally-hacked-183597.php
say what you want guys but i know a lot of people are gonna break their psp trying to install this !
The tracks are simply too "fine" and narrow to solder on. The casual electronics hobbyist can't handle this type of soldering. And soldering on the tracks is gay. You gonna rip the tracks out if you accidently pull on one of the wires. Loads of PSPs gonna get bricked. Watch ebay for loads of PSP parts. RIP PSPs! LOL!! ahahahahahhaha!!!
I just cant wait untill a opensource fw is written with this thing and they get linux running YAY!
no doubt there's gonna be a bunch of bricks because of asshats that don't know anything trying to install it, but that doesn't mean it's going to be impossible for everyone. that just means more busted psps on ebay for me to buy cheap and easily fix :D. you guys act like a lifted trace is the end of the world, It's an easy fix, I've done it many times because of dumbass friends who think they're hot s.h.i.t.
Quick question, is this easy or hard. my uncle has been fixing phones for a while, soldering on the pcb and has also fitted ps2 chips and xbox chips. would this be a straight forward job for him to do following instructions.
the modchipstore has a link to find out your compatibility without taking apart your psp and voiding your warenty. if you open your umd slot and check the upper right right hand corner, if your psp has ic1oo3 in golden letters than it does fit/work on your psp and if you have nothing there it fits/works. check this link for a better explanation and a pic. http://www.modchipstore.com/support/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=164
I got my PSP on the day of the release I have looked in the place where the writing should be but there isn't anything there, in fact on the other side on the PSP in the UMD drive I can see some writing on the motherboard it says IC9001 which I think means it's a IC1009 as it's backwards writing anyway. Can someone else please check if they have writing on there mobo too? Also since I don't have any writing on the PSP how do I know it's compatable?
For those of you that can't solder or don't want to. There is an alternative that works great and, in fact, is used quite often in SMT repair: electrically conductive adhesives (basically, glue that conducts electricity. If you can use super glue, you can use this stuff). There are many different types (acrylic, epoxy, etc.), here is one that works damn good: http://www.mgchemicals.com/products/8331.html It's also handy for repairing broken traces.
From the article: "TA-082 is not supported, however, they seem to be limited to Asia and have 2.6 or above firmwares." Well, I got a TA-082 sytem from a GameStop in Virgina a couple weeks ago. It has firmware 2.6 pre-loaded, so I've been able to use e-Loader. Now I just need to wait for Undiluted Platinum Rev2. (A ficticious future version that I hope will have support for the TA-082 systems.)
