Undiluted Platinum: Compatibility Check made Easy! |
Ó
Since it became officially known that some of the more recent versions of PSP hardware will not be compatible with the initial releases of Undiluted Platinum, many PSP owners have been wondering if they should be cracking open their precious handheld to check out what hardware they have. Well wonder no more!
The makers of Undiluted Platinum have just sent us a little bit of info which makes it easy to determine whether you have an unsupported TA-082 motherboard inside your PSP. Simply open your UMD drive and take a close look at the area indicated in the picture to the right. If it says "IC1003" in there, you have one of the dreaded TA-082 PSP's and will have to sit out on this round of modchips.
I'm not sure about the rest of you, but I could have sworn I just hear the sound of thousands of UMD drives being opened in unison.
Now that you know whether or not the modchip will work work for you, be sure to take another look at the several options for purchasing a modchip - and be warned, installing this chip on your own is going to be mighty difficult and possibly damaging to your PSP if you don't have advanced soldering skills!
- Buy the modchip and do-it-yourself (or have a friend help out)
- Have it professionally installed by ModChipStore.com
- Buy a pre-modified Black PSP with Undiluted Platinum already installed
- Buy a pre-modified White PSP with Undiluted Platinum already installed
Update: According to early reports, some people are finding "IC6001" located on the other side of the UMD drive than what is pictured. This is an indicator for TA-081 PCB's and WILL be compatible with Undiluted Platinum. If you don't see "IC1003" than you are good to go!

So does this mean it will support the modchip?
I have 2 PSP. the first i bought came with 2.01, stupid me upgraded to 2.7. (doh....)
So i bought a new one and made sure it was downgradable, and that one came with 2.00.
And if I have understood earlier posts about the compatibility problem, PSP'S made after the "dreaded" date (dont remember it), is PSP's with f.w. 2.01, and not supporting the modchip....
(dont take this for granted, i could be wrong about this, and it can also differ from witch PSP you have(US, UK or JAP))

If it isn't written in that place described in here, look on the left side, not very left (ca. a finger from the left side, a thin finger;)) there is a metal cover, you can see the number hidden there. My Number is something with a 9 in it so i can use the Modchip for sure, cheers.

I figured it'd be 90 bucks retail, 120-130 installed. ModChipStore is a scam and we should be supporting a more reasonable retailer of this service.

I'm definently going to get this chip!!!!!!!!!

I guess I';; have to wait, but it is better anyway so I can get mine bugs-free later on :)

Even if you tried it yourself and made a total mess of it, you could buy another psp with the money you didn't pay them - more chance of getting it right the second time and you'd learn some soldering skillz, too!

"You would think the front page peeps would proof rread"
A simple "Hey, you've got a typo" would've been much more appropriate instead of resorting to vulgarities.

1. there will be other web sites offering the same service for much less (im guessing around £80 max - in UK anyway)
2. we will know weather or not this chip is any good
a little paitiance is all that is required.

Already FW 1.50 though ;)
No need the bloat my PSP with this chip.
I'll wait for "hackers" to achieve 2.71 emulation by software means. (=DevHook, MPH FW Emu, etc)
As always..
Good things happen to those who wait ;)

So this means that i can use the ModChip if i got "IC6001"?
But what about this part: " If you don't see "IC1003" than you are good to go!"
That's *****ing confusing!

I think your right about the core pack, they seem to be NOT compatiable with the current UP modchip X_X, mine has that IC1003 thing on it, oh well gusse have to wait. and to QJ.net hope you note that so people will know before buying it and yes it has FW 2.50 NOT 2.60 and it's a US model PSP1001.

im gonna buy asterix white faceplate with red buttons and the black part of the psp i will put a white skin on it and the paint the rest of the black spots white then paint the gray/silver area red and in the areas around the power switch and the wifi switch i will put in a little white. then to top it all off a screen protector and Undiluted platinum. but.......... thats only if the chip ACTUALLY works.
btw my psp is a 2.6(was bought as a 2.01 before i knew of homebrew) U.S. and is compatible.

"TA-082 is not supported, however, they seem to be limited to Asia and have 2.6 or above firmwares."
I live in Ontario, Canada and bought my PSP about a month or two ago. It was a core pack (the one just with the system and without the headphones, 32MB card, etc) and first came with firmware 2.5.
Yet my PSP has 'IC3001' written in it. So I believe there might be a whole lot more TA-082s out there than they think.
Can anyone tell me if this is because it was a core pack, because I'm in Canada, or just random bad luck?
rAy
