Now although many of you were quite interested in the Ridge Racer 2 demo which was out yesterday, we guess that a good contention of you didn't use it for the sole reason that it required a firmware which was out of homebrew's reach. And reading the news (or are they rumors?) lately, it seems that a lot of the upcoming games will be coming out requiring new firmwares. Well, you probably won't have to worry this time, because Dark_AleX has a lot of stuff covered.
He just released a new decrypter which decrypts the DATA.PSP of the new Ridge Racer 2 demo. We'll list the instructions here:
- With some pbp utility, such as pbp unpacker, extract the files from the Ridge Racer 2 demo pbp. Put the extracted file DATA.PSP in the root of memory stick.
- Run the decrypter test with 1.50 kernel (GAME150 folder) if you are in 2.71 SE-A or in devhook emulating 1.50 if you are in HEN.
To those who know their stuff, this will probably be a piece of cake. Although the news is big, Dark_AleX was quick to point out the fact that this won't be a popular solution since it doesn't work on the rest of the demos including World Tour Soccer and Ape Escape Racer demo for 2.81 (Thanks to jas0nuk for testing out Ape Escape). Well, we believe that we still haven't seen all of what guys like Dark_AleX and Booster are working on, and we wouldn't be surprised if any of them release a bombshell in the coming weeks. Don't worry though, we will have you covered. For now, here's the decrypter.

I've already played Ridge Racer 2. It's pretty much the same exact thing as Ridge Racer 1. It really got me disappointed.
I could already play this on 2.71 by spoofing the 2.71 devhook files because 2.71 has the same PRX as 2.81.
What the difference from Ridge Racers 1 and 2?

Worked perfect for my 1.5 (with 2.71 devhooked), is a pretty lame demo though. Was hoping for some more. 6mb isn't too bad tho.

I bet that would be illegal, probably will be up in a torrent in not to long though.
or better yet, the torrent for the actual PAL version is already out... Seriously this game is just ridgeracer1 with a few more tracks, no upgrade at all! it makes madden look to shame.
great job dark_alex my thanks goes out to you. When i woke up this mornign i saw that this came out and i wanted it badly but i had your 2.71 se-a installed and couldn't use it. Then i came back later and saw this post about it and was very happy great job dark_alex and thanks for all your help to the psp community!

this isnt working at all with homebrew enabled devhook or on normal 1.5 fw it just loads... i see a lil orange flashing then it makes wierd psp noise and says the game could not be started both in devhook 2.71 with homebrew enabled and on a normal 1.5... i got the data file thing in root too... i rly wanna try this demo =(
i heard something and I don't know if it's true but:
there is a program that allow's you to play 2.81 demo's on 2.71 (devhooked) by only changing the version number to 2.81, it's almost the same a wab.version changer but then for devhook

every time i run the decrypter test on 1.5 or 2.71 it says the game could not be started. 80020148..... i have firmware 1.5 and using devhook to use 2.71

Yes you can play it on 2.8 for sure. i suggest u dont upgrade just yet. Just google for solution. There is not much difference from 2.8 and 2.81 because its just a security patch. DONT UPGRADE YET UNLESS U HAVE ANOTHER PSP LIKE MYSELF.

This ONLY works on 2.71 SE, 2.71 DH, or 2.71 with HEN.

this is a pretty sweet demo now that i got it working,,, almost makes me wanna buy the game... but i wont... i get 1st place right after the first lap and i just ride alone the last 2 laps... its not fun... to not have a difficulty setting in the demo.

Hey al, i have made this Dycriptertest in a a 1.5 Rboot so peopl eho warnt running 2.71 SE-A can hack it and run it in 2.71 DevHook. But i need to know were to load it up to in QJ so people can get it. And it dose work , i tryed it out and it out puts the Data_Out.pbp, but were do i submit it?

edit the sfo from the pbp to 2.71 in pbpunpacker then save to pbp load the icon0 use data_out renamed to data and load up in dev hook

This version of the demo seems to work in 2.71, mabye its already hacked?
As for "ban" rubbish, hey this isnt piracy, its just avoiding the update machine. :)
Remember the real game works on 2.71 so theres a chance i might actually buy it.
Dark_AleX Continues to deliver. Perhaps I won't upgrade to 3.00 as soon as it comes out... I'll wait to see what else these great devs are up to. Hopefully giving hope to TA-082 users (such as my self). I have downgraded 3 PSPs of my friends, so I wont let them upgrade, but me on the other hand...
Maybe devhook will be on 2.81 soon. Who knows?

Funny you say you like to follow the rules but you will use the modified demo and play it on a most likely modified firmware version that it was not intended for. I'm sure moddifing the file without Sonys permission is wrong too. All this because you don't want to "follow the rules" and upgrade to 2.81. And before you say the old stand by of me being one of the people that are crying because I upgraded, I didn't I am still at 1.5 and will be forever. I just find it funny the amount of hippocrates on here.

yea me too , i was thinking of a much better ridge racer ...well some little grafic pixel performance but after thats is the same ridge racer again , cars are the same , the dj voice are the same and say the same stuff , no big deal this game indeed !
