Ó

We're not entirely sure about the legality of this so we're not going to host the file. However, we will pass on the news. Dark_AleX's PsxDecrypter, an application that decrypts/decompresses ISOs of the PlayStation Store, has been released.
Those that decry this application say that it is illegal because it breaks Sony's protection. Those that defend it say that it is still legal as it doesn't include Sony's code. Similar to cracking a cellphone, it should be legit as protected files aren't included in the application.
Since we'd like to play it safe, we'll just offer you folks a forum thread at the end of this post so that you can get more details and perhaps even the file, itself. In the end, the decision is up to you.

..right..why not copy the readme so it makes sense:
it "decrypts/decompresses psx games bought at the ps3store"

And does it upload the cracked software to a torrent for you as well?

This allows everyone to keep their homebrews and pay for PS1 games if that's their choice.
Thumbs up on yet another great release by DAX.

The last version of popstation does have support for compression

Maybe you should read his post again, and then look back at how dumb your smug reply was.
"the next version of popstation could have support for the compression that sony uses"
If you knew what you where talking about, you'd know that the last version of popstation does NOT use SONY's compression but rather a completely different and less effective compression.

The difference is the DMCA. The DMCA prohibits the creation of "copyright circumvention" devices. Decrypting firmwares doesn't help you break the copyright. Decrypting copyright protection on things they sell DOES.
Hence QJ is correct in being apprehensive about hosting the file.
