<<< This is an entry from the NeoFlash Spring Coding Competition >>>
Team PSPdizaster has released a WMA Enabler for 2.60 PSP. This tool is meant for those who wanted to listen to WMA music but don't have internet connection for their PSPs. You will need the eLoader and GTA: LCS to run this tool on your 2.60 PSP of course. Here is a guide on how to use this program:- Extract the containing folder "wmaenable" to the "games" folder on the psp
- On your psp start the GTA UMD game
- Once eLoader is loaded you should see your EBOOTs go to the EBOOT that named "PSP WMA ENABLER"
- Start/run "PSP WMA ENABLER" by pressing the "X" or "O" button
- Once the app "PSP WMA ENABLER" is running and you will see the words "wma enabler". Press the "x" button
- Once after you pressed X the app will do its duty on enabling your wma support
- The app will take you back to the eLoader menu.
- Press "start" button to exit eLoader
- You will notice a change of look and system name.
- Put your music (wma files) on your psp
- Play your music
*If this bricked your psp pspdizaster are not to be blamed. You are the one that took the chance of using this so blame yourself...
** You can change your name back to anything you want if you'd like. It won't hurt anything**
*** We at pspdizaster have tested this and have not bricked our psp so if you brick its your fault for altering the file while thinking you can do more with this file***

on another note, how come when anyone releases homebrew or some kind of mod, people feel the need to bash it? it's happening here, it happened with the N64 emulator (someone wanted dreamcast, wah wah wah), and usually happens when someone doesn't release their source code at the same exact second as the program, trying to get all legal by saying that it's AGAINST THE LAW (even though most copyleft "laws" are based on good will and aren't really held up in court)...
anyway, i think that if everyone was a bit more supportive, we could have an even better homebrew scene. what's th e point of creating things if people are just going to tell you that they want something else?

MP3 is definitely lossy, WMA standard is lossy. There is a WMA lossless codec but I have no idea if the PSP supports this.
A lossless codec achieves a much lower compression ratio but recreates the original data perfectly, like zip/rar do to whatever u compress. It is also dependant on the amount of 'similarity' it can find in the audio, so your standard hip hop with nothing more than a bass line and snare drum will compress much better than Mozart.
If you want good compression you really need a lossy codec and have to hope that it removes info that you 'cannot hear'. Transcoding from 1 lossy codec to another will almost definitely reduce the quality noticeably as all codecs choose different parts to take out and sound is quite a complex thing.
There are many superior codecs, mp3 was created in the late 80s, but its the standard and 'good enough'.
In any case, Microsoft makes WMA, stick to mp3.
to who cares: Reading is good, it leads to learning which leads to not making retarded comments.
