This PSP hardware hack project isn't really finished yet, but the developer sure is focused on working on it. Pictures and some details of the PSP Multi Firmware Module prototype has been released in the developer's blog 0okm.

Features that will be included in the Multi Firmware Module will include the following:
  • ALTERA MAX 3000A Cost-Optimized CPLD
  • 480 Mbps High Speed USB 2.0 (PSP built-in)
  • Brand New 32MB Nand Flash onboard (the same type used in PSP)
  • Stable and reliable flashing software freely available for download
We'll keep you posted for updates on the PSP Multi Firmware module, so stick around. Here are some pics of the said firmware module for the PSP.

by - 2006-06-14 18:53:28
uhh

Looks uncomfortable to carry.
by - 2006-06-14 18:55:20
Um

that looks like put those on UMD side. that looks gay. i mean that will worthless. it just D.I.Y. .but how can u carry w/ that ?
by - 2006-06-14 19:04:02
More credible

This project looks more credible than "undiluted platnum" Keep up the good work.
by Atarian - 2006-06-14 19:13:00
re #10

That is just the prototype/testing board. pretty much all electronics projects start out that big. when it is ready for production (if he chooses to do so) they will be made smaller in chips and on more precise boards.
by pavey - 2006-06-14 19:23:08
solder

when and if this is released it would require solder right? coz on that second pic theres a hell of alot of cables, its hard to c how this really differs from U.P
by RaiderX - 2006-06-14 19:39:24
#7 get firefox

and get the adblock extension. I havent seen a single add since I got the extension, its the bets browser feature ever! FF PWNS! this looks great! might be an alternative to the modchip if anyone needs it, could be developed into another modchip too
by akuma2099 - 2006-06-14 19:41:48
nice

I don't think the guy is going to release this he is just showing people that someone can do it. Kinda nice idea but I don't need any modchip since the devhook program came out. Anyway at least might stop those stupid "if you don't like the modchip then make one yourself" comments. Good job man.
by - 2006-06-14 20:20:41
i dont get it

just wait for dev hook to be updated keep the faith and remain confident
by - 2006-06-14 20:23:53
Omgq

ThrouGH USB YOU ARE THE FREAKING MAN!!!!!!! OMGH!!!!!
by - 2006-06-14 20:24:34
Modchip = Unbricker

#15 is right in a way, Devhook have nearly eliminated the need for modchips except for the fact that modchips can resurrect your dead PSP. There is always room for modchips.
by eggwonder - 2006-06-14 20:24:50
oooooh

amazing and i think i would like to learn to do this before trying to solder something to my psp(undiluted platinum) unless im wrong and this does require soldering.
by - 2006-06-14 21:01:40
...

it does require soldering(20 points) look at his blog and read the whole stuff... http://0okm.blogspot.com/
by - 2006-06-14 21:05:22
all need soldering

If youre worried about soldering , you should probably start practicing, cause the chip is a surface mount chip, meaning that your gonna either have to desolder the old one and connect the leads to whatever new one you have, or if they release a solderless version, id think itd either take up more space, or maybe need soldering for one wire or something
by - 2006-06-14 21:36:07
Thats freakin hard

This guy is a machine I don't understand how people can make this stuff all at home.... I'm in grade 10 and take electronics at school and we deal with this simple crap so I can't even imagine the amount of time and effort that goes into this stuff. Props to 0okm for being so dedicated to the psp cause. However, I doubt he'll make his own or anything, hes just showing off what hes been tryin to accomplish.
by Mystic8277 - 2006-06-15 00:01:19
.

Wow does that look fun to install.
by - 2006-06-15 00:29:40
blah blah blah

Improvements like these will no doubt help homebrew Developers & psp hackers alike!!! those of you who are whinging that 'oh it looks soo hard to carry' .. well u are just a bunch of n00bs with no idea about what it takes to liberate the PSP from those evil no-gooders sony!
by - 2006-06-15 00:37:03
downgrade also

this guy also find a way to downgrade from FW2.0 to FW1.5 on an 1007k machine with his own program! only his talk? never found the program in his blog!
by - 2006-06-15 02:05:20
Modchip

Am I wrong or is this just another modchip? I mean: Multi FW Reflash via USB Chose FW at startup It's similar to the modchip anounced about a month ago, at least when you think of the features.

Truth revealed

There has been some further discussion going on regarding this between 0okm and others at his blog. Somebody called "zappaz" has exposed a few interesting facts about this development: - You cannot program the "module" externally. It can only be programmed using a PSP which already has 1.0 or 1.50 firmware installed. In light of this revelation I fail to see the benefit of this module and the UP is once again sounding like a much better alternative. - It is not suitable at all for installers modifying PSP's for people, since due to the fact that you can only flash with a PSP running 1.0/1.50 firmware, you would need to ship the PSP back to the cusomer with the module pre-programmed with official Sony firmware which is illegal. Since the UP can be programmed externally, customers can program firmware onto the secondary flash by themselves after they receive their modified console. http://www.blogger.com/comment.g?blogID=16728768&postID=115028599422103096
by - 2006-06-15 05:28:34
you know what would be funny....

sony releases firmware 3.0 with full homebrew support, maybe blocking out iso loaders, but it would render all this firmware hacks useless.... lol
by - 2006-06-15 05:31:05
actually, might not be so useless

forgot about recovering bricked psp's... so these are still actually usefull. And it's highly unlikely sony would release firmware with homebrew support.

Its spelled "Ads" as in Advertisements. Not "Adds" as you have spelled it. Idiot.
by ultimax - 2006-06-15 11:18:11
oh god...

i have this weird feeling that 2.71 will be hacked not too far into the future... but then again, i also thought that germany would beat brazil four years ago, and i turned out to be wrong. as for the multi firmware module prototype, i think its good for 0okm but no good to anyone else.
by - 2006-06-15 11:22:56
ask yourself..

do you spend more time doing other psp related things than actually playing games on your psp? if you answered yes then you have got a problem
by - 2006-06-15 13:08:19
HOAX HOAX HOAX!!

Fook, you kids are clearly retarded! THIS IS A HOAX!!!! Just look at the photos... they are weirdly distorted in the edges. Suggesting some manipulation has taken place!!! Oh well, atleast I warned you. This "0okm00" character is most likely YOSHIHIRO! Yes thats right.. its a HOAX, hes trying to get pre-orders, then he'll take the money and run! DO NOT BUY THIS CRAP, ITS FAKE FAKE FAKE. By the way, if u want a real modchip, I sell them. You must pre-order from ME.. I am legit, really!! Not Happy

PSP Updates are a bunch of f__ks.... i've posted some damn good stuff.. for HOMEBREW.. but they have said it's ISO related.. but they got no problems posting DEVHOOK (Which i love) but NOOOO to DAXISO (Which ROCKS).. Which emulates firmware and runs UMDS.. Then this which is just the same (HMMMM what do you need 2 firmwares for????... Let's be realistic now).. I'm really getting sick of this site which I thought to be at the FRONT of PSP DEV.. I read and saw all these pictures over 24 hour ago.. DISAPPOINTED.. and before ANYONE trys to flame me make sure you know who I am!!
by Cyberskunk - 2006-06-15 13:50:33
To continue

ACTUALLY YOU KNOW WHAT.. They have REALLY made my blood boil.. PSP Updates is now just a conveyor of news that THEY wish to expose.. no better than any other sort of news media.. BYASSED BASTARDS.. Not true to the real scene.. to scared that they might get some flak back. Just tell the fans whats going on PSP Updates.. ALL OF IT.. Please!!
by Cyberskunk - 2006-06-15 14:05:23
@ Billy

@ Billy Answer this.. Would YOU really be bothered soldering all of that.. and going through all the trouble of making that one debug screen (which makes perfect sense mind you.. if you read it) just to get some recognision.. which would be disproved???? If you have checked out 0okm's blog then you will see the person know's what they're doin'.
by Cyberskunk - 2006-06-15 14:21:44
Thanx and sorry

I apologise to PSP Updates.. Your not a bunch of f__ks but PLEASE post all the news (with a disclaimer if you have to).. PLEASE.. thanx and sorry
by Cyberskunk - 2006-06-15 14:31:33

If your legit then post as a registered member.. hmmm?
by Exodium - 2006-06-16 01:33:55
