PSP Homebrew: CFW 5.03 GEN-B for HEN now out! |
Ó
Says Magixien's note on their website:
We failed to achieve our initial goals but the main thing is unless it happens and can play games with 5.55 and protected.
Here are the features of this release:
- compatible with the PSP-3000 and PSP-2000 v3 official firmware 5.03
- play backups of games REQUIRE PSP firmware above 5.03, including 6.xx
- playing UMD require firmware above 5.03, including 6.xx
- playing UMD / ISO games protected against the CFW
- play PS1 games
- GEN available VSH MENU (SELECT)
- recovery in VSH available
- reading homebrews
- etc
On the other hand, here are the things that they weren't able to work out, unfortunately:
MGS demo refuses to run
- We've tried everything and what works in 5.550GEN-D2 has not worke in the 5.03GEN-B. Pity...
The Recovery mode menu is "mixed"
- The RECOVERY MODE 5.02GEN-A has been patched to run on the PSP-3000. It can change the most usual options but we encounter some problems with this VSH Recovery in and we have not managed to fix it. In fact, the menu sees some of his lines not properly allocated and others who do not work. Note that on a PSP-3000, the recovery is useless, or nearly so, since all the useful features found in the VSH menu or in Ultimate VSH menu Total_Noob of Total Noob we strongly recommend that you install.
Here are the options of Recovery and their equivalents:
- USB toglie = OK
- Configuration = ok
- Skip Sony: not work (need not severe)
- Hide corrupt icons = not work and labor Skip sony logo
- Game folder HB ok
- Autorun EBOOT ok
- Fake region ok
- Use vsh menu ok
- XMB USB Device ok
- Load Device with USB ok
- Use M33 network update ok
- Use version TXT ok
- Use game categories = ok
- Reboot in official firmware> not working
- Advanced CPU SPEED =
- CPU SPEED = Plugins
- Plugins = registry hack
- Registry hack = device suspends
- Suspend device = reboot in official firmware
- Reset system = quit
Thanks to Eric dB and animebuster for the heads up!

WOOT!
yay
it has translated saying that
# play backups of games REQUIRE PSP firmware above 5.03, including 6.xx
# playing UMD require firmware above 5.03, including 6.xx
for noobs this make sound like they need to update there firmware to run backups and umds
it should say *that require above firmware 5.03 including 6.XX
i went to pspgen website and i cannot for the life of me find the download link do you need an account or something
if i click it it just re loads the page
And I turned out to be right. After working on an un-decyrpted iso ONCE, the gen-b refused to work again. The recovery menu is still horrible. It doesn't play demos. It killed my irshell 5.03 patch. And I had to go through the frustrating process of removing the gen from my flash 0manually to put 5.03 mhu back on. I thought that if they were gonna release this it should at least work. They should have delayed this a whole other month
Thanx from Holland!
Not a GEN hater. I just had a feeling this was gonna be exactly like 5.50 GEN-C. I think being on top right now is making Team Gen's heads weak. This is too many bugs now especially for a delayed release.
u need a account
So it does not play iso's on OFW above 5.03..
Team GEN is still relatively new in the cfw making scene, and they deserve some slack. How long was it before m33 released a really good, feature-packed and stable firmware? It takes time. And this is just a HEN f/w of course its gonna be buggy. Team GEN will get it, theyre doing good work. As for me, I'm stayin on 5.00m33-6 until GEN f/w gets me onto psn or adds some feature that I just cant live without.
Just use mediago browser and you don't have to cripple yourself. It's not perfect since you con't connect your psp right to psn, but 5.50 GEN-D2 spoofs mediago into thinking its the highest current firmware.
I've actually had minimal problems on 5.50 GEN-D2 on a psp fat. my nesterJ would lock up but I just used the next last current version and it runs fine.
Please answer to this...
I was on cfw enabler 3.60 and all my psx games where working. Then I thought "well mabe I'll try installing 5.03 gen-b ^^" And I installed it while MHU was loaded.
Gen-b did start and i tried the Jack and daxter demo. It did work! But my psx games didnt.
so I thought "Maby I'll go back to MHU".
So I loaded the MHO installer a picked uninstall and it went well. then I restarted the installer and installed MHU. I reflashed the pops files. But that didnt help at all.
I have even tried diffrent version. And it seems I cant get the pops to work like before. please help me here.
I get this message "the game could not be started. (80000004)
I got it working using posploader with older pops.
Could there be something wron with the pops files I extrakted from the 500.pbp?
Well, i LOVE GEN but before the release i felt it would have many bugs, as it does but they are quite new to the CFW scene so I don't mind, as long as they don't brick my psp 3k!!
Is fof a word? If not it should be changed to "for".
Ive used a PSP 1000 for awhile now.good to know i wont have to worry about game compatibilities ,but still i wish someone could hack the PSP 3000 completely,so i can use features like sense me and such.
For the time being the only way I could think of, to overlook the bug issue with the recovery menu is to use Total_Noob's Ultimate VSH menu plugin.
Hi guys, just helping out on my findings, as I found out a way to run the MGS PeaceWalker
Demo (BOTH OLD and the TSG version) with the new CFW 5.03 GEN-B for HEN after getting my
hands on it.
Sadly QJ.net still does not have a download link for the CFW! (waiting for a bug-free release??) But then again GEN-A had the similar bugs in recovery and honestly it didn't HURT at all, Oh well I resorted to
other means for getting the Sweet new CFW 5.03GEN B!
After successfully updating to GEN-B from GEN-A, I installed the Ultimate VSH Plugin by
Total_Noob as recommended by the Gen guys.
Once done, using the Ultimate VSH menu I entered the recovery menu and did the following:
Under configuration:
1) enabled Autorun program at PSP/GAME/BOOT/EBOOT.PBP
2) UMD MODE is currently: Sony NP9660 -no UMD-
3) Fake region is Disabled
4 Use VshMenu set to Recovery
5) Use M33 network update is currently Disabled
6) Use version.txt is enabled
*Note, I used the Recovery from Ultimate VSH, not the standard VSH that came with CFW 5.03
GEN-B since it does suck!
*IMPORTANT*
Then back to the main recovery menu, go into
Advanced ->
Advanced configuration ->
SET* Plain modules in UMD/ISO ( to enabled)
SET* Execute BOOT.BIN in UMD/ISO (to enabled)
XMB plugins (leave enabled)
SET* GAME plugins ( to disabled)
POPS plugins (leave enabled)
Once done that hit BACK till you exit the Recovery menu back to the XMB.
PLEASE REMEMBER TO DO EXACTLY THE SAME STEPS AS MENTIONED ABOVE IF YOU WANT TO RUN THE MGS DEMO ON A PSP 3000!
(Now to my knowledge this is good enough to run the MGS Demo but i went the extra mile to
update the version.txt with this :-
[ release:6.10: build:3062,0,3,1,0:builder@vsh-build6 system:50781@release610,0x05050010:
vsh:p6399@release610,v50953@release_610,20090415: target:1:WorldWide ]
...and the simplest way to do
that was use Update Trick 2.5 by Chiri_13 and edit the
version.txt for 5.51 since that’s the only available option to update the version.txt in
that homebrew.)
**Now I’m not sure what it says in the original version.txt provided with the new CFW 5.03
GEN-B since I’m lazy and did not bother to get inside Flash0 to retrieve it. If anyone could
kindly provide me that particular version.txt it would be sweet!
After about 15 mins of messing around or deciding to mess around actually (lol) I got the
demo(s) both the old and TGS versions to work and I must add I feel it’s not much of a big
hassle. Wonder why GEN team couldnt get this working!
Well BIG BIG BIG thanks to Team GEN for the new CFW and Total_Noob for Ultimate VSH also
Chiri_13 for the awesome simplistic update trick brew!
If not for you guys, fans like us would be sucking our thumbs!
HOPE THIS HELPS,
I’m using a PSP3006 running CFW 5.03 GEN-B with original Japanese manufactured 8Gb Sony
Memory Stick Pro Duo.
Please feel free to contact me if any info i stated needs clearing up, but honestly I myself
am A NOOB when it comes to Homebrew and CFW yet I managed to run it so I hope you guys out
there that are smarter than me, get it too!
Can this play 480x272 AVC? or is there any homebrew to do that? What about MS speedup. Didnt they say that they where going to include that? Maby I remember wrong. I thought was to be like 5.5 gen-D + MS speedup.
After getting the ultimate vsh which i've never used before but is completely redeeming of gen vsh/recovery, the mgs demo works now. But 5.03 gen-B still refuses to run unpatched games
Armored Core 3 works like a charm, its not patched or anything runs perfectly. plus i love the game :) !!!
GTPSP, unpatched, works like a charm. HOWEVER, the story mode is horribly disappointing :( its like in previous gran turismo games' licensing system where you drive cars that arent yours on tracks with time limits... ect.
Am i missing something on GTPSP? like a story mode... an actual purpose behind buying cars besides to look at?
In one of my posts above I wrote that I cant get POPS to work without popsloader and older pops.
And popsloader wont let me use video output..
I was wondering.. How can I remove all the CFW files from Flash0? And is it possible to flash older pops than 5.00 into CWF gen-b? I mean..
Can I delete all the CFW files from flash 0 without toutching the real FW files? Please help me..
Exuse me for feeling really proud over myself as I am no developer and I have almost no clue hot CFW 5.03 gen-b work. ^^
What I did;
1. Uninstalled CFW using CFWE 3.50
2. Installed CFW 5.03 gen-a
3. Used PSARDumper to decrypt and save 5.03 files on MS
4. Connected Flash0 to computer and copied the POPS.prx and POPSMAN.prx form 5.03 OFW to \kd\.
I did this caus the old pops files did come from 5.00 and was flashed with CFWE and I do not know if they are accepted by the OFW so I thought "Hmm.. Maby this one needs the original files.
5. I installed cfw 5.03 Gen-B
6. I tried a PSX game.. I WORKED!!! Damn I was trying to solve this for 2 days! So if anyone got the same problem try do what I did ^^
STOP JUMPING THIS OMG ITS OLD ASS NEWS
Fail!
"im so sorry that we fail"
