PSP battery hack: use your Nokia battery

In case your PSP battery breaks and you find it too expensive to buy a new one right now, take this lead from LordLeXat and use your Nokia battery as replacement. That's some real MacGyver shiz right there.

If we are to believe LordLeXat's testimonial, this makeshift battery actually lasts longer than your usual PSP battery. Says he, "The battery is lighter and has nearly 150% lifetime of the original 1800mAh PSP battery, and by the way, the text of the Nkia battery reads 1020mAh."

How did he do it? Looks like he used a standard Nokia battery (BL-5C) pack with the original PSP battery control board. You can try it out for yourself, but you know it's at your own risk.

If a 1020mAh battery last longer than your other one, chances are your PSP battery was just old. Old batteries don't last long.

This sounds like complete nonsense but if someone else can confirm, I'll be willing to try, once my battery becomes useless

All it is, is a negative and positive connection to a rechargeable battery... provided the voltage matches of course. Theoretically this could work with a lot of small cell phone/camera batteries... provided that they are of correct size (physically) and voltage. Its an interesting idea.

It indeed does work with a lot of cell phone batteries. Many ppl have already done this with different cell phone batteries

Wow, wonder if they can get one (or just a bit of) of the Silver Nitrate batteries from Apple's new Macbook pro. That battery is incredible... Doesn't lose its charge for 1000 cycles, 150% capacity of a regular battery.

Sony need them for the PSP.

I even remember some people doing this with normal AA batteries. I think there was even an article her on QJ, but I don't want to search for it. :P

this same thing will fit a slim battery for anyone wondering. i actually had a spare of the higher capacity version BL-6C. i did i last night. for some reason i couldnt get it to work though. i wired the positive and negative of the battery to what i though was correct but then every time i put it in the psp and tried t turn it on, the board for the battery would instantly get really hot, so i though maybe i switched the positive and negative on the board, so i swapped them and tried again only then it just didnt work at all. when i had it in the psp while plugged in, it would give me the orange charging light but i wasnt really doin anything. if i turned i on it would only run from external power and didnt display any battery information. i dont know what could be going on. It's more than likely just the slim battery board not taking the battery or something. i know it doesn't make any sense, but its the best guess i got.

it was with 3xAAA batteries. you can actually buy those batteries now and simply put AAA's in them.
