Noobz Unleash Tetris on 2.0-2.80!! |
If this doesn’t make you jump up in your chairs and run to “Mommy” asking her to buy you a 2.80 PSP, I don’t know what will! Well, this news may not be enough for one to buy a new PSP, but it definitely is worth jumping out of your chair in pure excitement.
The “Noobz” team has released the first homebrew game for 2.80 PSP’s (as well as 2.70 and 2.71). This game will also work on all firmwares from 2.0-2.80 firmwares, although 2.80 gets the most benefit out of this game as it is the "trickest" firmware that we have exploited. This single piece of homebrew is the simple game of Tetris and is made possible by the recent libtiff vulnerability that has been exploited. With previous exploits, Tetris games have been used to demonstrate the exploit, and this one is no exception.
“Noobz” has developed this game for users to enjoy, and it also demonstrates that the exploit is definetly "usable". The 2.80
is very capable of running homebrew (user-mode), but all it needs is a kick in
the right direction. This homebrew game is exactly the kick we need. As for the other firmwares, 2.71 can already be downgraded with Dark_Alex's downgrader, so this is a huge milestone for 2.80 (can't be downgraded).
Even though there is no eLoader on 2.80 at this time, the
team has taken the liberty to release instructions on how to make homebrew
“2.80 compatible”. For those curious youngsters
who want to know how this was made possible, just download the SDK package that
does exactly that – shows you how it was made (coding experience is a good
thing to have if you wish to understand it). Instructions on how to create compatible homebrew are also found in the SDK download

My patience paid off, and right when i was about to update to 2.81, hell ya thank you devs, this only mean one other thing... we are that much closer to an eloader.

how do u use this? my psp always shuts off when i open the folder, so i just wanna make shure i did it right.
after 3 tries it WORKSSSS when u exit it restarts the system and returns you to the xmb i hope they fix this

also, i recomend taking any umds out because when u turn off the game, it reboots the psp and it can get annoying when the umd automatically starts

It worked for me on the 3rd try. It's awesome, let's brew!. Now give us a nice eloader and don't forger to work on a downgrader, kernel access is important ;)

Hey thanks guys, this is a very nice example of what is possible on 2.80. It didn't work the first time, but ran subsequent times.

Ok here's how to make it work, instead if of putting it in the picture folder at the root of the MS, open the PSP folder, make a PHOTO folder, and extract the files there, now it should work.

You can't just put the files in the photo folder, you have to have a folder named Tetris in the photo folder. The 3 files then go into the Tetris folder. When you open the Tetris folder, the game shgould start up. I have 2.71 and it worked on the first try.
ok everyone i know some of you say it doesnt work so... first off make sure its in the PHOTO folder inside the PSP folder. you see if you have 2.8 theres two folders named PHOTO, one is right as you open your memory stick the outher folder (where Tetris belongs) is in the PSP folder then in the PHOTO. if you dont do this the game will just freeze up. lol make sure you unzip the folder after you download it too. after it is unziped open it till you get to the folder called Tetris (yes folder dont go all the way to the images themself) and copy the whole tetris folder to the memory stick in the folder i just described ....

Just put the whole Tetris folder in photo, it worked for me.

if you go into the ph oto folder press triangle on the TETRIS folder and select slideshow it will work 1st try
It did freezes on me twice. I took my UMD out and tried again, third time it starts working no need to change anything in the directory structure. This guy did a great job I wish I learn all this so I can help other in Homebrew :) Keep it up, I am waiting for the eloader, I can't wait to play emulated games i.e Nintendo, NeoGeo, Sega. This is the only stuff you can't buy anywhere.
I'm on a 2.8 and have tried it in both photo folders. I've redownloaded it twice. Everytime I open up the folder it flashes the magicgate light for about 15 seconds then stops and the machine just sits there till I remove the battery. How long does this take to load?
this is great now all we need is an eboot loader so i can use things like psp to sms and the pimpstreamer and some games and psp radio so just keep up the good work and make the psp for the people again
p.s. to u fat cats at sony even if you give me psone emulation im not updating cause ur going to make me pay for games that i own that are sitting in a box out in my shed and u thought u could stop homebrews but we are one step ahead of u so just give up and on the next fireware let use play homebrews dont discourage it incourage it

wait for the images to preview... then start the Slideshow on the TETRIS folder... and it appears! I have tried it 10 times and it doesnt crash!

I would've posted sooner but i was busy working this out and after a while it worked, WOOT. i got firmware 2.80 got the regular (not sdk) and umm yeah woot playing tetris, waiting for eloader. Awesome job.
stay in ur picture folder for a while but dont open the tetris thing and then like after a min or 2 open it and it should work then after that, it can open like normal.

al you have to do is download the folder, open the psp folder take the photo folder and stick it in the psp folder off of your memory stick. 2.8 downgrader is coming, in yo face sony

Ok, some of you still want step by step instructions so here we go - 10 detailed steps - TETRIS for DUMMIES:
Step 1. Download the files
Step 2. If your on a PC you'll have to unzip the files, on mac it should do it for you
Step 3. Turn on PSP and connect it to the computer via USB cable
Step 4. Open the Drive of your PlaystationPort able and procede to open it's file "PSP" then open the file "PHOTO"
Step 5. Open the downloaded (unzipped) file "PSP" then open it's "PHOTO" folder
Step 6. Drag and drop the file "TETRIS" into the Memory Stick file of "PHOTO"
Step 7. Disconnect the PlaystationPort able from the computer
Step 8. Back out of the USB connection and go to your pictures
Step 9. Click on TETRIS (wait for it to load the preview, may not work first time, if it doesn't just hold the power slider up until it shuts down and try again and again - not too relyable on all systems yet - no need to take out the battery)
Step 10. Once it's finally loaded press the triangle button and go up to "Slideshow" from here it should load the game, however it still sometimes works and sometimes doesn't

hey how soon do you guys think the eloader will be finished? any estimated guesses would be nice. also, do you think th reason peopl are having trouble with tetris is bcause they have TA-082's maybe? i dont have one and i can open tetris without slideshow no problem

It crash on my 2.71 TA-082 PSP too. I have access the Tetris folder in the PSP-PHOTO, but it hangs everytime i try to access the folder, it starts reading from the memory sick but a little bit later it crash (HANG).

Finally Make it work with my PSP 2.71 TA-082, you should put the files in the PSP/PHOTO/TETRIS, once you access the Tetris folder, you immediately press the down button and the game start.

I couldn't get it to work on my 2.8, so I cut all
of the files from the ROOT\PSP\PHOTO folder, pasted
them in another location on my hard drive and left only the TETRIS folder and it's contents inside.
That way it works all the time.
I guess it has something to do with the memory limitation.

This program doesnt have access to flash, so it couldent brick your PSP, its 100% safe, just pull out the battery next time.
It worked pretty well on my 2.8, I should dry it with my Devhooked 2.71, wonder if it works there as well.

Yo, everybody just listen up! I don't know if u have it too! I have an eloader n devhook v???(cant say it) and i'm using gta to get start it! So y'all wanna know what im talkin 'bout? Ok i can switch with those requirements that ive listed from 2.71 to 1.5 and turn back again. This works just like a modchip but a lil bit different. I can do this with all the other fw's too, example: from 1.50 to 2.50 but notice this requirements can only be used on the 1.50 fw.

It works!! First it worked normally(just opening the folder), then I tried 3 times without succes (just opening the folder)
Then I read that you had to to Triangle and then slideshow, AND IT WORKS!!

Hey peeps! heres a few problems that i overcame that you might wanna know about
1. Kept freezing evertime i transferred tetris and loaded it, then i figured out that if you use a memory card reader it doesnt work, so if thats what your doing use a USB cable
2. Also when you open the photo folder on your psp, wait for the thumbnails of the other pictures to load before trying to play tetris, and like the other guys said

To get this to work everytime just delete the Pong.jpg from the folder and it works everytime. . . . . god if some of you had brains you'd be dangerous
I like. Althought it din't run the normal way, I get it to work using the slideshow trick on my 2.70 TA-082. I say keep up the good work! Maybe tomorrow I'll try to code something with the SDK..?
Finally, now I can play tetris on my psp, what next though? Hopefully a proper e-loader so I can use SNES emulators, please, please, please Fanjita and Diltew (and others), get onto it!

ok this really works, just put it in you photo folder and then just press the x button over the tetrix folder sometimes it freezes but it works!!!!!!!!!! !

guys i forgot i got an easy work for tetris simply put it correctly wait for the picture or icon of tetris to show in the folder then open it using slideshow. Works for me :)

Ok when i first tired this it did not work Because i had it the the picture folder in the root of the psp every time i tired it it would freeze. so i went into the root went to the folder PSP and Made a folder called PHOTO (not pictures) and put Tetris in there. oh 1 more more thing unzip the files first . go to picture then go to Tetris Boom your in . Hopes this helps
