No More KXploit for 1.50 PSP - NO-KXploit Patcher Released

Moonlight today has released a very nice alternative for loading homebrew on our forums. This release comes to save all our 1.50 PSP users from having to put a "dumb" and a "dumb%" folder in our PSP/GAME/ folder, which allowed homebrew to run properly for almost one year.

With this program, your 1.50 PSP will be able to load and run a single Eboot.pbp directly like a 1.00 PSP, without any trouble of converting back and forth. The only thing you need to do is to load this program. After it exits automatically, you can choose and load eboots for 1.00 or 1.50 properly (tested and confirmed on my own PSP)! Your PSP will retain this ability unless you cut its power supply or shut it down. Putting your PSP into sleep will not make the PSP lose this ability. This does not flash your PSP, instead it all done in the RAM, so no worries about bricking your PSP.

On June 15, 2005, PSP-Dev Team, which was formed up Killer-X, Pawstick and CybBlade, released the original Swaploit method, which opened the blockade for all our 1.50 users. One week later, on June 22, 2005, PSP-Dev Team released the KXPloit method to save all of us from swapping the memory sticks and using only one memory stick to run the homebrews. This has become the standard of the eboot files for the 1.50 homebrew scene. Now, almost all the homebrews come in 2 versions, one for 1.50, and the other for 1.00 and 2.00+.

However, on November 10, 2005, CybBlade, one of the PSP-Dev Team members, died of cancer. But we will remember him, and everything the team has contributed to the whole scene. Even if we may never be using the KXPloit any more, their contribution to the scene will be remembered forever.

How to use No-KXploit Patcher
  • Copy "NOKXPLOIT" and "NOKXPLOIT%" folder from the archive to the PSP/GAME/ folder on you memory stick.
  • Browse to Game -> Memory Stick in your PSP menu interface and choose "NO-KXploit Patcher" from the sub-menu to start this program.
  • Wait for a short moment. This program will load and then exit it on itself.
  • When back in the PSP main interface again, you can start to launch any Eboot files on your PSP as you wish!

You can hide the icon in almost all homebrew anyway using the 1% ______1 thing. And you don't have to worry about turning the psp off. This just adds another icon & another program you have to run. Big freakin deal. If they release this as a flashmod thing then ya it will be awsome but until then this is useless. Who cares...

I prefer the old way... And this could be done through an eboot loader "ELF", as many shells (like PSP-OSS) do.

This isn't an improvement at all.

It stops the iso loaders form working. Screw this. **And how is this person from your forums. Shes got *1* wow 1 freaking post here. Do you not think shes from somewhere else. You guys say From **OUR** forums with every damn thing that is released. Its not from **Your** forums making it sound like a pspupdates release. Geze....

i dont care about the two folders...all i do is copy and paste...it doesn't take any time...and you can hide ALL corrupted icon...basically the old way for 1.5 is fine...nothing wrong with it....if the wheel isn't broken why fix it?

plus this app is just gonna be another USELESS step....why would i wanna run this just to run a homebrew? cuz im too lazy to put both files in? thats just plain stupid......basically this app is gonna add another step for no reason....i dont believe this app should be on front page

At the moment this is not really great news, why go through the trouble of running this program every time the PSP is restarted when there is already a program that will organize the PSP's GAME directory in order to ensure that those corrupted icons, while still in existence, are pushed to the back of the menu and out of your way?

However, I have heard that somebody from Team Emergency Exit (I forget the person's name, sorry) is supposedly working on a firmware dual boot hack that can be used to automatically launch this program. If that ever gets released chances are this program will be quite popular. There is also the potential for this program to evolve into a firmware hack (if anybody is gutsy enough to risk their 1.5 PSP systems in order to get rid of corrupt icons, that is).

Of course you won't!! Just because you're using their exploit to get this nonsense-app running... Please stop saying stupid sentences like that.

Why do you gotta be so anal? The bloggers retrieved the information from their forums because it was posted there, not some other resource. Otherwise, they would have cited that they received it from another reliable source. Of course it's not a pspupdate release, but the whole reason why this site is even up is to update us on the homebrew scene.

# Not as goodGuest 2006-04-10 02:34
I'm gonna stick with my usual loading. One thing I liked about 1.5 was not needing to run another program first to load my homebrew. That is kinda the point so running this everytime I turn on my psp is just ruining it.

# Nice idea, but...Guest 2006-04-10 02:45
I think its a great advancement, but having to run this program before running any homebrew on a 1.50 PSP is pretty pointless. The corrupt icon thing does not really bother me and they can be hidden if you use Sei's trick. I'm glad they released the source code. I'm sure someone will take it and modify the sceLoadExec module and release something that replaces it in the flash0.

Of course I would never feel save modifying my PSP's firmware.

# it's sort of pointlessGuest 2006-04-10 03:07
you need to redownload all your eboots again because your corrupted ones can't boot up. Unless there is a program to make corrupted icons useful, this is an in the background program.

No more compatibilty problems (version), Thus you've got the choice in case there's ony 1.0 release (some people is very lazy to use the Kxploit Tool) and u said its sucks!!! I really cannot understand u guys (coward)

# Hmmm...Guest 2006-04-10 04:19
Whilst its annoying to have to run it on each boot, since it's essentially a FW patch, could it be incorporated into PSPSet? That would be the most elegant system.

"But it uses KXploit to work." - Nice observation, lol

At first I thought this was some kind of cool new revolution where we wouldn't have corrupted icons. Turns out its not very functional (can't turn off you psp) and requires you to restructure all your homebrew over again. Why does qj.net love this thing so much. I don't think I ever will. AND I truely hope they don't try and convince devs to stop releasing in the 2 folder 1.5 friendly fashion!

i think that is more safe to have to run this little app at every restart, or to use kxploit tool and one of the thousands apps to remove corrupted icons. honestly, i will not like a flashing version, just because if something goes wrong i have to blame myself to had bricked up my psp only because i'm too lazy to run an app... i think that this is the better way, thank you to the devs

I think this is a great program and with the source code released, it can be improved into something better. Even though the second %folder doesn't take up that much space, I was still envious of the 1.0 users for only needing one folder. Hopefully it supports shells like PSix, but from what I heard, OSS won't work. This is a great program none the less. All of these programs should be praised, it's thanks to the developers that I'm as interested in the psp as I am now. It's okay for people to criticize, but the ones above are going beyond that, they're insulting the developers and their work. That's just unnacceptable.

If you're using PSP Game Organizer... then this program actaully generates MORE work. PSP Game Organizer allows you to sort all of your game/homebrew/apps on your psp... then it pushes ALL of your corrupt icons to the bottom. I haven't seen a corrupt icon in MONTHS! lol

This program means you actually have to start up your psp... run a program... wait a few seconds.... then begin your gaming fun. Sorry but my way is faster... keep it realx0rz... keep it KxploiT!!

Wow. Some of the people here are really weird.

All you have to do is run this once, when you boot the PSP. Then it stays active, even in sleep, until the PSP either crashes due to another program, or was competely shut off by the user by holding the power switch up for ~2 seconds.

Since I keep my PSP in sleep mode most of the time (tests have indicated refreshing the ram and keeping the processor idle uses less than 1% of the battery per day in sleep mode) this little tool is quite handy for me.

I don't bother using any of those silly programs written in horrible languages like visual basic. Sure, they're awesome for people who don't know what they're doing, but I'm far more experianced with this sort of thing than the average PSP user due to being in the 'scene' since '95. (Go caetla! *G*)

Due to the fact that I could give less of a crap about PSP-OSS since those shells are relatively pointless, at least until PSIX matures more, the problems with that don't bother me in the least. And even if I did want to use these programs, I'd just have to do a quick reboot to flush the patch from memory and run it. It's rare that I run an ISO anymore, there's just not too many good games out that I want to play, and I already own GTA. Most of the time, I'm using things like Bookr, the VNC client, TOME, and various emulators. (Yay Nester! Now I can play River City Ransom and Technos Samurai on the go! Now if only a good GBA emu would come out so I could play River City Ransom EX!)

From an old school user, thanks a bunch, moonlight!

Your contribution to the community is welcomed and appreciated!
