The entire PSP community was really excited about the Lumines exploit that was found recently. It was because of this exploit that the 3.50 downgrader was developed. Word has been circulating on the net that the newer Japanese copies of the game are requiring firmware 3.51, thus effectively eliminating the exploit. Tr. on the Noobz forums gave a link to a screenshot which allegedly comes from the Japan release of Lumines.

Lumines for Japan has allegedly been patched and requires 3.51 - Image 1

What is surprising is how quickly this exploit was fixed. If most would care to remember the exploit in GTA: Liberty City Stories, it was only fixed after something like six months. Hmmmm, it looks like Sony and Q Entertainment / Bandai / Ubisoft moved quickly on this one.

There have been no reports of any UK or US copies that have already been patched so far.

Regardless, Fanjita has given word that people who are looking to buy a copy of Lumines for the exploit should be careful. So the question we should be asking right now is how long before we start seeing these patched versions on our shores? If you're interested in taking advantage of this exploit, you're probably going to want to pick up a copy now before the newer version arrives.

Yeah Ebay...

Once sellers get ahold of this info expect prices to double, triple, or even quadruple. Good thing, Lumines was the first game I got for the PSP.

The game is being withdrawn from videogame retailers in the UK

Just have a look at http://www.choicesuk.com/Product.aspx/!822450

Bah

That is the EU version. That's a UK store. This sucks. I ordered my Lumines on June 26th. I'm guessing this is why it hasn't shipped yet. I guess I should cancel my order and start looking for a used copy.

...

@jdragon yes mate cancel that order, or you will get a 3.51 version of Lumines

No Lumines in Portugal

In Portugal, Sony has recalled all Lumines UMDs. I get this news from a very reliable source, game store owner. So we could see one of this in Portugal soon.

:)

I know a place that has 12+ copies of the Original Lumines... but they are $39.99 :(
by - 2007-07-08 14:29:47
Lumines FTW

Good thing i bought 6 copies of lumines to spread the wealth by selling them on Ebay.

PSPU did you even look at the screenshot?

The article says the patched version of Lumines comes with 3.51, yet the screeny clearly shows 3.50 PSPU has been here for a couple of years now. I suprised theyve made such an obvious error. Not that the firmware that comes with the patched Lumines matters.

ummm read the rest of the text

Obviously you didn't read. The text actually says something along the lines of. You currently have version 3.5 firm ware installed. You require version 3.51 firmware to play this game. Please update and try again.

by - 2007-07-08 15:59:12
o well

they patched the japanse ones first because the jap discs already couldnt run trhe exploiit, so sony decided to patch them in hopes that the devs wouldnt even bother making the downgrader work on the jap ver.

the only real problem at hand

if they patched these this quickly, who knows how soon theyll start patching new games. bye bye god of war.. :'(

stop trying to be a smartass...

I have a very limited understanding in Japanese but I believe in the screen shot it says that the current version is 3.50 and that you need to upgrade to 3.51 to play the game.
by - 2007-07-08 17:21:13
lol you're right

No Lumines in North America either

I called EB Games in hopes of getting a copy but the guy said that Lumines had been pulled from store shelves because "That game was being used to pirate software"

I think that this was one of those 'waiting in the wings' type deals. There is no way Sony could have patched the exploit and had it on shelves in under 3 weeks. Often takes that long to ship the thing!
