I'm sure all of you TA-082ers have been waiting with bated breath for 0okm's downgrader. And I wouldn't blame you - 1.5 land is magical, if you know what I mean. Well, granted that with the few big news lately, 1.5 is slowly starting to lose its shine to firmware 2.71, you still have to realise that the bulk of homebrew is made for 1.5 and thus, will have a few problems in 2.71.
When 0okm's downgrader news spread on the internet, people became restless. A few weeks down the line though, and there's hardly any information from him. Was he successful? Did he run into some problems? Thank 0okm because his latest entry in his blog is a nice update to all his fans:

So, there you have it. I bet he's probably finished about 70% of the coding. And I'd trust him to get this thing finished before long. The other good news is that his downgrader will be supported on firmware 2.71. So all you TA-082ers, feel free to update to 2.71! It's got loads of goodies lately and it's where the party could be within the next few months!

what about factory 2.6 ta-082 users?
cause it says if you have original 2.5, then update to 2.71 and use the downdater when it comes out.....i have an original 2.6 :(

So far I haven't seen a single finished exploit/hack or app from 0okm. Fanjita, Dark Alex and the like keep dropping finished bombshells. But 0okm just seems to keep on giving false hope to get people to read his blog (google adds). First it was the umd emulator, to this day he has not released it (only some test code which didn't use kernel functions). Then it was softdown a ta-82 to 1.5. To this day he only has released a prog that prints if you have a 2.5 firmware or not. Which is basically a check on which bootloader you have.
Anyway, we'll probably see 2.71 kernel homebrew running on ta-82's before we see a downgrader from 0okm is my thoughts on it... And that's not bad at all, because it will be better than 1.5 even if the majority is written for 1.5 now, the apps can be recompiled for 2.71. It's like 1.5 is windows 95 and 2.71 will be windows xp requiring a recompile or rewrite of certain dos specific apps :)

Is only the origonal 2.50 firmwares downgradable or also the 2.60, as it RUNS on 2.71. Please don't flame me.

i would encourage the development of the following projects by other developers rather than pray for 0okm to come up with anything at all. besides, these will be closer to completion before 0okm bricks a million PSPs.
* overthrowing 1.50 and crowning a 2.x (with TA-082 mobo) as "the new golden firmware" by working on exploiting all possible exploits on current 2.x f/w's to enable porting of 1.50/all homebrews
* a 2.8x to a lower version downgrader to whatever 2.x f/w will be crowned "the new golden firmware"

Meaning, have the DECENT firmware on the chip, and the hackable one on the mem stick. I love the Devhook for 2.71, and i'm now using it all the time, and I'm certain that 2.81 and above can be emulated on 2.71, too! It's all looking good, if only we could get the patch to autoload...

In the meantime untill [If ever] this is Released then upgrade but until that great day arives for you all stay on the current firmware you are useing now,
As dark alex,Fanjita & Ditlew n Co may come up with an alternative.As things are going at the moment anything is possable with these developers.

He mentioned that he could play ISOs with devhook on PSP with 2.71 firmware.

Anyway thanks to dark alex's work. TA-82 users just upgrade to 2.71. Then install his devhook launcher and voila you can run homebrew AND run iso/cso on a ta-82... So no need to downgrade to 1.5 anymore!
When dark alex finishes his kernel mod for 2.71 you can even run the 'current fw 1.5 only kernel apps' as well...

yeah when its released. its not currently possible to downgrade 2.71 TA-082 so for all we know it could be released in 2 years

Few questions for you guys:
Does this work as well as 1.5 for homebrew, and the like? Are there any significant advantages / disadvantages? I guess my main question would be: Does this work as well as performing a somewhat risky downgrade? I know TA-082 downgrading is still being worked on.
For example: Do applications made for 1.5 tend to run slower if you're emulating the 1.5 firmware through 2.71 on a TA-082? I'm curious since I may be getting a TA-082 2.71 machine soon.
