Game Categories Plugin v2: another one for the obsessive compulsive |
Ó
Two XMB organization plugins in one day?! Oh, this is pretty tough. With MK2k's APPSwitcher PSP v1.1 release, we now have Bubbletunes' Game Categories Plugin v2 (which, as NeilR points out, was actually released a few days back).
Both plugins pretty much do the same thing - they allow you to organize your files and homebrew in different sections accessible via XMB (a godsend for obsessive compulsive people like moi). Here's Bubbletunes explaining a bit more about how his app is different though:
Just before I was about to release this plugin, I saw MK2k's APPSwitcher hit the forums. After checking it out I still believe that this plugin is useful to release for numerous reasons.
Differences:
- No need for a configuration file, everything is detected.
- Convenient integration in the vshmenu for quick switching.
- Patches the IoFileMgr driver directly instead of renaming the folders.
- Loads entirely in kernel memory as opposed to user memory (reduces crashes).
- Recaches the game menu without anything required to be done by the user.
- It has 'Show all' and 'Uncategorized' options.
Nonetheless, I thank MK2k for his contribution to the scene.
Nice to see there isn't any competition between Bubbletunes and MK2k. And quite simply, both plugins are equally just as fab. Just to clarify, when Bubbletunes mentions that he "saw MK2k's APPSwitcher hit the forums," he was referring to APPSwitcher v1.0 - not v1.1.
Now for some changelog stuff. Here's what's new in Game Categories Plugin v2:
- Solved bug of some sections not working while a category was selected (was fixed before, but without version change).
- Solved bug of the PSP crashing when pressing X on a category in the vshmenu.
Many thanks to Bubbletunes for emailing us about his plugin!

Comments [refresh]
This came out on Nov 8th (v2 on the 9th) not \"a few moments after MK2k\'s APPSwitch PSP v1.1 release\"
I prefer this plugin to the other one so it\'s nice to finally see the article about it.
Oops. My bad. I thought... MK2k's release was... Hmm?
(GinoD's lost again..)
Ah there we go. o_0 Sorry for the misinterpretati on. So if I got this right... in Bubbletunes' thread, he was referring to MK2k's v1.0 release... which was dated Nov 7. And the v1.1 is dated... more recently. Yes, yes, I see it now. No wonder Bubbletunes' thread was dated far back - and I thought it was just newly edited for a newer release. ^_^
Fixing the article now. Thanks, NielR!
(so... *scratches head* why did Bubbletunes just email us about it now? o_0)
Heh I love this coincidence, nice work Bubbletunes!
