Before anything else, we have to put up a disclaimer. When you mess with your firmware, you stand the chance of bricking your system. Let us repeat that once more: tinkering with firmware versions can render your PSP deader than roadkill. So. 0okm just released a downgrader from 2.50 to 1.50.
Yes indeed: 0okm claims to have come up with a 2.50 TA-082 SoftDown downgrader to 1.50. All you 2.60/2.71 users, however, still have to wait. It's time to tread lightly, folks, because 0okm requires people to email their own ISP email, PSP serial number, and FW dump Data. Here's 0okm's statement:

This guy has put lots of effort into working on a T082 soft downgrader and no one has even shown any appreciation.
You guys don't deserve anything and as for those who are asking for a 2.8 downgrader, it serves your stupid impatient ass right for upgrading in the first place and for those who might have some how purchased an already 2.8 firmware Psp you should have done your home work first.
Although I don't havce a T082 Psp I still say a big thanks to Ookm for working on this but I am surprised you actually bothered judging by the ungrateful immature and impatient idiots in this Psp scene. To number 23, Ookm has proved he knows what he is talking about when it comes to working with the Psp and I think the real question is what have you ever done for the Psp scene.

Sounds to me like the reason he needs your information is that what he has discovered has to be tailor made for each PSP, somehow genrated by the serial, which is not entiirely implausable. If you were to share your custom made softdown, it would surly brick the hapless PSP it was run on. I am not saying this is defiantly not a scam, just saying that there could be a perfectly understadable reason for his needing your PSP info.

And in case you haven't heard of him, he's the author of the 1.00->1.50 and back firmware emulator, the proof of concept 2.6 UMD emulator, and creator of his own custom mod chip.

Tards who are rambling about a 2.8 downgrader - it ain't gonna happen on the current exploit! In 2.50, 2.60, 2.70, and 2.71, Sony done a bad and made a buffer overflow error that allowed for KERNEL ACCESS, which is needed to modify the PSP's flash. 2.80 and 2.81, however, do not have this bug.

I used to be able to run homebrew because I had a 2.6.. but then I was confused and like... what the heck is homebrew why is it so great.. then i heard 2.7 could watch flas on the internet.. so i watched some homestarrunner.. then the 2.8 came out and I got it for the RSS feeds so i could watch video and podcasts.. then i realized how great homebrew was and now Im just sittin here like.... *-)..... Think about this. He needs to know the your psp serial number and FW Dump data or something. So if you email him, he will probaly give you an eboot to load with the kernal exploit or something to get specific data of your psp since there are going to be slight differences for the firmware files of different PSPs because of the mac adresses and all of that. So he probaly needs to make the write files correspond correctly to your PSPs statistics. This is dangerous stuff editing the 1.5 files to allow the TA-082 motherboards to work on its different voltage, so every possible condition needs to be looked at.

Although I don't have a TA-082 PSP this is nice for those who do. As for the info he needs It wouldn't bother me if he threatened to release my info. As my ISP gives me 5 different E-Mail addresses 3 of them I don't even use so I could give him one of those. My PSPs serial number isn't important to me as I have never registered it anywhere. Lastly my firmware info is not that big of a deal either I mean what can someone do with that. So if he released my info if I "accidentally" gave out this software it would not matter to me I would just laugh at him.

I have 2 PSPs a 1.5 and a TA-082 at 2.71. Since I can do anything and everything on my 2.71 that I can with my 1.5 (because of dark alex). I see no point in downgrading..

While I don't have anything against this whole thing, and also this doesn't concern me since I got a virgin 1.5, I stop here and think more about the personal information release.
Releasing people's personal informations, even if they agreed over this, is something quite illegal and is not something anyone would approve. ISP email reveals many informations about your account. I don't believe such extreme as being necessary, and I say people shouldn't put trust into this. Sorry 0okm, but this extreme is not something that makes you in your advantage. Even how good of a coder you are, releasing people personal informations is just a moronic idea that could not only put those people into a bad position, it would also makes your own personal image through the scene be affected as well.
This part of the message is to QJ.net: I never complained against you whatsoever, although, this shouldn't be on the front page considering the requirements VS the extreme. As much as I am happy to see downgraders coming out letting more and more people enjoy the homebrew/emulator on PSP world, I wouldn't like to see people getting their personal informations released because of a misunderstandin g or a mistake from the author of this software (this could happen and often happen. Miscommunicatio n, something happened, someone gets accused who is not guilty and get their informations released and something happens with those) because for two things, someone will be in trouble, and this trouble can come back on your nose as you become as liable as 0okm for releasing the news on the front page so encouraging people to blindlessly give their sensitive informations. Even the warnings you give is not enough due to the seriousness of the situation.
I know what I just said will bring a lot of flamer, flame all you want I can careless. I am just warning people in power that this is an extreme that can lead to bad conclusions. If you flame me, then, send your personal informations, but don't whine to anyone if something happens.
i think ookm is trying to protect people from bricking, and protecting himself from having the responsibility of that. his downgrader is individual psp specific. if some clown gives his downgrade soft to his friends, they will all brick, so i think the point of all this is to protect people, rather than punishing them for releasing his software
I understand that, but I still think the personal informations revealing thing is quite an extreme. If he's so scared people would brick other people's PSP, or whatever... why does he release something like this in the first place ? I am sure he could come up with something to secure the whole thing to make a build specifically for this PSP and wouldnt be able to work on any other, you get what I mean ? If you don't want something to be released outside this specific person, you got to figure out something that will disallow anyone to use it once it's been executed or something like that. I know it's harder than it sounds, but everyone knows how people are right ?
Even if some idiot releases it... his informations gets released, ok, we got that part. But there will be a little PSP bomb traveling around the net, and this won't be the responsability of the leaker, but of the programmer, and if this responsability is added to a leak from the programmer of personal informations, do you imagine how much of a mediatic blast it'll do ? I get my news from qj, both from the forums and from pspupdates. Although if I have any questions, I certainly don't go here to the comments section. Come on, people, how old are you? Nine? Ten? Nobody can spell a word here, it seems (with few exceptions), and the general mass of the posts here concider:
A) "OMG OMG I want for 2.8!!1!" or
B) "You shouldn't have updated you stupid (bunch of *stars*)" or maybe even
C) "He said it was safe for 2.71 why does he release this for 2.5?!? F-er!!".

A) Shut up and wait. Please.
B) No, they probably already know this. Please be quiet and don't be fools yourselves, spamming the whole thing.
C) Wait with updating until a release is out, wait a few days still, just to know if there are many bricks already, wait a few days more until a new release or patch is out - and for God's sakes don't complain or ask questions before you have read the READMEs that are released with basically every program that is released in the entire computer world! Is it me or no one ever actually saw 0okm's software?
It's easy for anyone to claim : "I have done a 2.80 downgrader but I can't share it unless you give me your isp mail etc etc" and that in the end no one recieves it.
If this TA-082 downgrader is so real, then why doesn't 0okm share his method with all of us ? When I worked on the 1.00/2.60/2.71 downdaters I don't recall hinding anything to anyone, the method was made available even before the actual working version got released.
Why can't just 0okm make a public statement regarding this?
I see either 2 reasons, either there is no downgrader at all and all of this is BS, either the method 0okm is trying right now is illegal.

Ookm can really be an ass when he wants to, huh? He could very well get in a good bit of trouble with Sony over what he's doing, and yet he threatens to release all your personal information if you break his own rules.
I don't see what good the whole "trust" factor is going to do anyways. Regardless of what Ookm or anyone else says, there'll bound to be a torrent with everything necessary for downgrading a couple days after this really picks up.
Supposing you get your PSP downgraded via this method. What happens to your personal info afterwards? Will Ookm delete it? I doubt it, so if you ask me, he's just begging for trouble with what he's doing.

I don't think so some how. Now that I have thought about this more and read through some surprisingly good points in this blog, it makes absolutely no sense for some guy to single handly try to downgrade all T082 users who want this in such an ineficient way.
Threatening to release peoples personal details is something I expect from those who simply cannot be trusted. The Psp homebrew scene is usually about sharing information and when it comes to downgraders, this is usually done. Another thing that is very suspect is that I remember Ookm saying that it would be a good idea to upgrade to 2.71 for the downgrader but now he is saying those will have to wait.
The whole thing is starting to sound like complete bs and even if he can really do this, threatening to release peoples personal information is not something anyone should be proud of. I also expected QJ.net to consider this more as well. Yes it is up to people to make their own decision but QJ didn't even raise the red flag at all. Maybe Ookm thinks he is a God and can do whatever he wants just because he has supposedly created the ''impossible''. Trust is a two way thing and he has violated it before even doing anything so he can take his damn downgrader and he can................erm release the source and do it properly :)
Never release your personal information on the internet/phone, etc. No matter what the person claims they can do, especialy when they threaten to release it. There is a downgrader for 2.71 by Dark Alex, and if this 2.5 downgrader is not a hoax, it will be released by a more reliable source within the week. Im disapointed with QJ staff for even posting this, your just encouraging people to take his offer.

Hoax hoax hoax. I too followed 0okm's blog for a while and between the BS there is also some good info that's why it is easy to beleive him.
Like swapping the X-O by looking at button_assign and going 15 bytes further and changing the value to 1, this worked for my JAP ta-82 (again this correct info he just got from elsewhere ofcourse, being the tiff font hack app to change the fonts etc on 2.x firmware). And yes his little program that prints out a green line of text or a red one if you have 2.5 or 2.6 also works. That's about it. But writing a little program to check your firmware version is an entirely different ball game than decrypting your boot image and replacing it with one that allows you to boot 1.5. Anyway it is not needed anymore since dark alex's work is making 2.71 the new golden homebrew firmware! Using Dark Alex Homebrew Enabler C, Ta-82's can already run gpSP (best gba emu for psp) they can run most user-mode stuff and already can run devhook allowing loading of iso's in 2.71. So why even bother to downgrade??? Just wait a little more for the next version of HEN from Dark Alex and even kernel homebrew in static elf format will run on your ta-82 making 1.5 obsolete...
I agree with the previous posts that 0okm should just explain the procedure instead of trying to get people's personal info to do it. If it can be done, it can and should also be explained how it's done. He remains very vague about what he will do with your info and does not really explain why he needs it in the first place (apart from creating some magical boot images to let you run 1.5 on a ta-82).
So why try and hoax us? Well thats easy to answer: google adds. By posting these items giving people 'false' hope everybody goes to check out his blog out of curiosity. This gives him many hits on his blog and creates a nice healthy income sum from his google adds (since some people click on the adds related to free psp games etc...). Also he encourages people to donate with paypal, same reason: making money of gullable people...
Notice that the real hacker like Dark Alex even does not put adds on his site to create revenue, he does it all for the love of the community and shares his knowledge, now that's true commitment!!! Again Dark Alex thanks for your work man!

What does he care if something is given out and the other person bricks his stuff because they are morons and don't understand the idea of a downgrader for specialized firmware? He can't be legally held responcible for a situation like that. By posting what he did in the FAQ he's just proving what a lame ass he's trying to be. What he should have done is coded an app that will allow users to dump their own firmware and create their own downdaters, not half-ass it (that's right, HALF-ASS it) and release something like that where he has to be involved... pretty soon I can see people starting to charge for ***** like this and call it "help out". In every psp video explaining an exploit they have to show their psp firmware version before the demonstration. But on the same screen theres a serial number on it so they use tools to blur it out. Ever wonder why?

I'm no genius, after all I bought a TA-082 PSP. But even I managed to get mine running back-up iso's (he he), using the HEN rev C / Devhook combo. I even updated from 2.6 to 2.71 to do this. So......WHY would you want to roll back your firmware, risk bricking it, and have to part with personal info????

Has everyone forgot about 2.71 devhook launcher with exception of a few people.? Just use that to emulate 1.5. There is no need to downgrade.

1: If this is real, why do you need to send your information to this guy? It's *****ing obvious that he is not hand-converting the info. IF his argument is that he is compiling the serial number and dump into the actual program, then I can say that it is very easy to write a program (for Windows) that can edit the binary file that is generated by the compiler...
Also, a text file containing the serial and dump data (or any other type of file, not just .txt) can be loaded.

an ISP email is an email address that is provided by your ISP such as thisisanexample @aol.com
some people prefer to use these when contacting somebody as they are always active. some email providers such as hotmail must be used once every 13 days etc.
also, I think 0okm maybe foreign.

The number they cover up or blur on the same screen as the firmware version is the MAC address of the WiFi card you freaking MORON!!! The serial number is on the bottom edge of your PSP on a sticker.
And people cover the MAC address up because every network device ever made in the world has a unique MAC address which is very easily traced or use to identify you as the person in a video if someone was to look at your PSP and match up the MAC with a certain video.
Now here's the kicker... I can't believe that NO ONE!!! and I mean NO ONE!!! has come up with a way to spoof the MAC on the PSP. Come on people!!! Even XP can spoof the MAC on a nic. Sh1t!

ok everyone LISTEN UP. All that 0okm is saying is that if he would to share individually the tailored made program for your psp and/or your dump to anyone, they could have the possibility of getting any personal information that you stored on your psp.
All 0okm is doing is letting you know what is at risk if, for some reason, your tailored made program/dump info would get leaked.
Personally i like people who let you know up front what is at risk before you commit to something, wish M$ would be like that.
Ok, from what I can tell, nobody has used 0okm's downgrader. I can understand some naysaying and such, but there's alot of hostility here. The way I see it, 0okm has a fairly decent reputation, and probably deserves a bit more respect. Why don't we wait and see what actually happens before we call it a scam or a hoax. Also, I can't help but notice all the hostility towards people who upgraded their PSP's to 2.8 or whatever. Give me a break! Some people just don't know, or are just learning. You can't expect everyone to know about homebrew when they get their PSP's and know what they should be looking for in their hardware at the time of purchase. Anyway, with that said... I think people should try to be a little less hostile here and have a little patience.

Okay, so you think 0okm is trying to scam, or that the guy before you is an idiot... but are all the "****" and the "******" really neccessary? People read these posts to get information. I for one would like to know whether or not this "softdown" downgrader is working or not. I'm honestly not worried if that 2.80er is an idiot for upgrading, or that your the first post, it is irrelevant. I have a 2.71 TA-082 PSP, I upgraded for HEnC and DevHook and I'm happy at the moment. I would still enjoy the benefits of 1.5 but for now I'm satisfied, I have some homebrew. My point is, people shouldn't take this so personally, it's a PSP, not a career. Most of these posts aren't even on topic, and are far from informative. I for one would love to see this downgrader in action, but I know I'll have to wait. If it doesn't work for 2.71 it's no big deal, I have homebrew as it is, it could be worse. For the 2.80ers if the past is any indication of the future, the wait for a downgrader shouldn't be too long. Especially if 0okm comes through on this one!

First off I havent read oakms updated blog on this softdown but I believe he said previously this should work on fw up to 2.71 as long as your fw was *factory* 2.5 in the begining. Secondly I don't believe he is going to use the personal information for personal gain I believe its used to make the ownsoft custom your your psp harware specs. When I bought my first psp in the begining of August 2006 and found more out about the scene and my mobo being a TA-082 I believed Oakm was going to be my best bet but not with Dark Alex's release of Hen revision c and devhook I can basically do everything that a 1.5er can do so I don't believe there is any point of downgrading now because soon enough 2.71 is going to be the new golden fw. Now if that I didnt have dark alex's release I sure would have went ahead with this because I don't believe Oakm would purposely do anything harmful towards you or your info as long as your not a moron and share the same respect as shown. I do agree with a few other points previously such as him sharing his discoveries so other developers could help with the downgrade process because even Oakm himself previosly stated on his blog he could only help approx. 5 people a day downgrade and compared to how many are out that would take forever. That's it isn't it? He does not release any real info because he does not have anything working. Meanwhile his blog is being visited a lot just by giving this false info over and over again. He is making money of the adds, same with the iso loader for ta-82 that never got released only a snipped of code that seems to do some stuff. But the usefull C-code that would actually emulate the umd is left out for the plain reason that he did not write it yet. He says so but untill I see some vids on youtube of his 'working' downgraders and iso loaders he remains a clever scam/add ware artist to me.
I compiled his given C code and then tried to modify it to get umd emulation going on my ta-82. Conclusion, all the hard work still had to be done. I stopped because it is now already possible with HEN C + devhook from dark alex for the ta-82. So no need to spend time writing it anymore :)
Like said before this is hoax, use Dark Alex's HEN revision C for homebrew and iso loading etc... And just stop visiting his blog it is a scam!

I HAVE A PSP WITH FIRMWARE 2.5 AND A TA-082 MOTHERBORED AND I JUST GOT EMULATORS AND HOMEBREW TO WORK ON MY PSP WITH THE ELOADER THAT INSTALLS LIKE TIFFS GAME WICH I WOULD LIKE TO GIVE A BIG THANKS TO THE PERSON WHO CREATED THAT IT HELP ME ALOT AND TO ALL THE PEOPLE WHO CREATED HOMEBREW AND EMULATORS. Hey JOEROCK, as big a jerk as seem to be, I partly agree with you. It seems that Noobz isn't even working on a 2.8 eLoader right now. It also seems like Fanjita's abandoned 2.8ers, due to the fact that he called it crippled firmware and said that they wasted his time by upgrading. Personally, I've lost faith in the Noobz team. I just hope Dark_Alex succeeds where the Noobz team will inevitebly fail.
I'm not saying they'll NEVER work on it, I'm just saying that they seem to be more concerned with 2.71 right now (like EVERYONE else). It's frustrating to know that I still can't do much with my 2.8, but I'm just going to wait, and wait, and wait...until some other dev beats them to it.
