From Dark AleX with love: PSP CFW 5.00 M33 released *Update* |
Woot! Dark AleX sure caught us off guard! I haven't even fully started up my computer yet and boom: a flooded inbox of tips! Well, here we have it: Dark AleX's PSP custom firmware 5.00 M33. Here's what's new:
- 4.01 to 5.00
- Bug fix: when changing speed in xmb, and the psp turned the brightness to 0 automatically the speed was reseted to 222 again.

*Update* Dark AleX did a quick hi-hello in their forums, responding to some reported problems with loading PSX games on CFW 5.00. Here's his note:
Some people have noticed an error 0xFFFFFFFF appearing launching their psx games.
The reason of this is due to some converters like psx2psp using 32 bits depth when converting the png icon, and new pops only support 24 bits format.
In future versions M33 will check if the depth is invalid, and in that case replace the icon by the dracula one, anyways this is not critical, and an update won't be released only for this.
If you want to make those psx games work in this version, reconvert them using popstation command line tool and using a 80x80 24 bits png icon. Alternativelly if you want to continue using psx2psp and you don0t mind about savedata icon being dracula one, go to options in psx2psp, and in icon0 select "Old default".
He has also since then released a bugfix for this PSX problem. For now, he won't release a new CFW version just for this update, but for those who want a quick fix, here it is.
This is a bug in M33 code that is caused sometimes with certain icons. I'm not gonna bother do an update only for this but I'll post the file that fixes this for anyone wanting to fix it manually replacing the file.
This also fixes document.dat not working.

c74gta4smash UMDs do work on 4.01m33 If you where haveing problems with UMDs on 4.01 m33 then it was most likely errors that could be fixed by formatting Flash 1 or resetting MAC.

Ever since I changed to 4.01m33, the custom backgrounds that I put with my ripped PSX games on Popstation don't show. I'd like for them to show up again.

all my progs still work, pico drive, nester j 1.50, bookr, uno, beautiful!!! only thing not working right now is IRshell and thats probably my fault, my config is always messed up. :) Dax is tha MAN!

The most useful prx is not compatible with the 5.0 firmware. I wasn't able to locate the author's (DarkSidious) email. Could one of you higher ups possibly do the job? I'm aware that 5.0 claims to have Auto-USB mode, but it is vastly inferior. It just kicks you to the USB connection screen, which disallows you to navigate through the XMB while connected to your computer. In other words, Sony fails.

I dont mean to be a FreePlay but I just got it via network update and it said "file not found" for the 500.pbp file. Guess I'll have to download the update manually and install it.

Try using Red Squirrels Alternate VSHMenu. It works with that.

yes i believe 3.71m33 was the last you had to directly update to before you could go further but why wouldnt you just pandora straight up to the bigguns

some please confirm if homebrew works with 5.00.
homebrew is the main purpose of dark-alex's work on m33, all the homebrew apps i use work - I don't use any old 1.5 stuff, which probably wouldn't work but none of that is really needed these days..
but i thought that was what the 1.50 kenel addon is (i kinda gave up on PSP a while ago, until today when 5.0 m33 came out +P)
I know the day will come when they won't, but I hope that day isn't today! I like to customize my emulator eboots with pictures and start-up jingles. If anyone knows what program to do this with on 4.x eboots that doesn't corrupt it PLEASE let me know! Dude so gay: Everytime I try to update, it freezes at 99% and goes back down to 84, then back up to 99.. and so on. Anyone know a fix for this? so dumb -___-.. i bricked twice trying to do this, i even had to freaking hardmod my only battery for this bs.

I just tried to install this custom firmware, and everything was going great, till my battery fell out. Now it won't start again. Anyone got a clue on how to fix it? Can someone help me? My PSP got bricked because my battery fell out when I was like 1 % of the installation, and now, since I think it's bricked, I can't get it to start again. Is there anything I can do?

Well done DA! 5.0 is pretty awesome, them new waves are beautiful. I download literally hundreds (in packs...) of custom XMB waves but they're all terrible since the designers don't have design skills. And the 5.0 wave pwns the lot. Even tempted to buy stuff from the store. It's just so nice having games there and accessible wherever there's a hotspot. Still needs a way to log on and stay logged in (a la Xbox Live) for messages, emails etc. One can dream!

1.5 kernel is really just for the real old homebrew. i dont have 1.5 kernal because i have a slim, and i dont think there is anything i cannot run that i actually wanted or needed.

don't waste your time you cant play backup games and most homebrew wont work
If you are having issues playing UMDs on CFW try changing the clock speed. I do know that Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters and Secret Agent Clank worked fine for the most part at 266. Everything else it would end up freezing somewhere. But why can't we play our games online in CFW?

hey guys i got the new m33 5.o installed but now my games failto run off the memory card the games are star wars force unleashed and NBA Live 09. I get an error(the game could not be started (800203321) please help wot have i done wrong????

press "select" if it doesn't apear turn off your system compleatly and hold the "R" button and turn it on go to "configuration" then down to "USE VSH" enabled it go back and try "select" again
