Ho-ho-ho, Merry Chri-ZOMG! Did someone just mention Booster in the title? Out of nowhere and months of being MIA in the PSP scene, Booster's back with a glorious re-entry complete with streamers, confetti, and a full brass band. And you thought that he pulled a Britney Spears and abandoned the unsuspecting Kevin Federline that is the homebrew community? Time to do some rumor-squashing. And there's no better way to squash those rumors than with releasing DevHook 0.50 - which emulates fw 2.8x (yep, that means 2.80 to 2.82)!

After all of the speculation we've had going on for the past few days and weeks, we can finally rest easy and move one step closer to homebrew freedom. Booster's homebrew application which allows you to emulate various firmware versions is now released. Christmas can't get any brighter and blessings do come in threes. Especially after Dark_AleX's 2.71 SE-C Custom Firmware and Noobz's 3.00/3.01 Firmware Dumper and Decrypter magic, having Booster back in the scene is enough of a miracle to put Handel's "Hallelujah" Chorus to shame.
By the way, as we mentioned, this emulates only up to fw 2.82, so don't be fooled by the folder that says "3.01". Although it is said that 3.01 emulation is in the works, that magic ain't included in this release yet.
It might not be "the BIG 3-OH", but is anyone complaining? Now for that early Christmas present delivered straight from Booster's busy workshop!

why is everyone so exited? 2.8x is exactly the same as 2.71, it has the same features, the only difference is you can automaticly SAVE video streams, when i say automatic i mean YES you can do it manualy on 2.71, you just need irshell, and personaly ive only done it once or twice, plus every 2.8x game runs fine on 2.71, so this release means nothign to me, thanks booster though fo all your hard work and dedication to the scene, but i have to admit this is a pointless update and i would have apriciated it more if you would concentrate on 2.71, personaly im sorry to say i wont be installing this yet, 2.71 and 2.71 se are all i, and everyone else, needs.

2.8 is not the same as 2.71. 2.8 has updated video and audio prx's which is why newer games with the old devhook have audio/video probs. try running cabela's safari or a non-patched version of star trek on 2.71 devhook and tell me if it works or not genious. 2.8 has gps and chotto shot camera prx's for those that have it u stupid f***!

make the dumps yourself retards. get the noobz universal psar dumper and the download the updates. use psp brew to extract the psar from the updates. put one in the root of your memstick and run the noobz psar dumper. there a firmware dump you lazy fu*kers!

8.move "ms0:/F0/*.*" to "ms0:/dh/282/F0/*.*"
9.run "DEVHOOK0.50 ENG launcher" from XMB.
10.if devhook files are installed to flash1 then uninstall it first.
11.select "FLASH ROM" > "flash1: < ms0: install configfile" and press circle long.
12.select "FIRMWARE" > "FW2.82"
13.select "START" then reboot PSP.
14.repare setting and reboot again.
People demanding dumps; there is an app for the psp (PSARDumper or sth like that) that takes care of dumping firmwares from their eboots for you. All firmwares are decryptable using this method (am i wrong?)

Very new to this sceen. I have a psp that has 2.8 firmware. I have e/x loader that a friend had loaded for me and taught me to use. Now that a Devhook has been released for 2.8 firmware does this mean that I am able to load iso's of the memory card, and if it do not what does it mean for me and others with 2.8 firmware. Because a few people have asked for a downgrader, is that need to play iso's. Please help.

when you have got the 2.82 files on your card you have to copy over the audio.prx file from 2.71 to 2.82 and it then works without crashing
the audio file is in F0/kd

The rapidshare link (the .exe one) is real, all the right files are there, however I can't get it to work on 2.71 se-c. If you got this working on the se-c fw, post the settings you've used here.
for some reason my psp turns off when i try running 2.82

I pressed "FLASH ROM" > "flash1: < ms0: install configfile" like the readme says and started the installation, but now it's been stuck for 20 minutes. Anyone know what's wrong? I don't dare touching my PSP in case I brick it. I have 2.71SE-C. If I brick it, I hope it's only partially so I can restore.

Yeah got it to work just follow the RE and you'll be fine i recommend going to psp-hacks.com they have everything u need... also you have to remember to copy the audio.prx from 2.71 to 2.8x dh folder

Ok I downloaded an exe of Devhook 0.50 from this link http://rapidshare.com/files/5372905/Devhook.50.exe. I installed it on my 2 GIG PSP Mem Stick Pro Duo. The exe did all the instilation without my manually installing it. After Intall was finished I ran Devhook 0.50 and I selected the game. But Here's the interesting part. Unlike 0.46 when I select the ISO image from file emulation tab, the UMD mode doesn't say its using a UMD disc for the ISO Image. And it seems to be running FW from the Flash.
How do I need to reconfig this manually to get it working due to the Devhook 0.50.exe Error to get a running instillation?

i don think firmware 3.00 can be emulated becuase wat if u wanted 2 use the ps1 emulator u would have 2 run the iso off the emulator and run devhook. if it was possible it might take a long time to load then.

yep, thats hybrid firmware for devhook all set up for you! You get visualizers, camera support, it runs games and all that. Wifi doesnt work though since it runs the 2.71 kernel and the 3.0 vsh, but ti doesnt have to replace your current devhook firmware, so its just great!! =D

Ok I did the following after DH 0.50 was on my PSP:
1. Copy everything in the MS_ROOT folder to ms0:/.
2. Run DevHook 0.5 Beta.
3. Select FLASH ROM.
4. Select flash1: < ms0: install configfile.
5. Read the disclaimer, and if you accept the disclaimer, hold circle for 1 second
6. DO NOT DO ANYTHING UNTIL IT FINISHES!
7. Press circle once it is completely finished with it's process.
8. Start Firmware 2.82, customize it however you want.
9. Reboot your PSP and then you are all set!
BUT it failed again. So I got rid of all the files and did another fresh installation. Maybe I will have my AC Adapter plugged into my PSP this time. Hopefully it will work this time. Problem is the cord is over my girlfriends and my computer is here at my apartment. I will reply tomorrow to let you guys know how it turned out. Goodnight!!!

i jst uploaded this and ftb2 works online you can paly online from sec to when u go online for the first time use dev .50 then u can paly from sec because u have the file downloaded.

Devhooked 2.82 boots with 2.71 SE-C. Just follow the EXACT directions given in the README.txt given with the download and IT WILL BOOT UP!
1) First decrypt firmware 2.71 DATA.PSAR with PSAR dumper by pressing square.
2) Copy the audio.prx from F0/kd/audio.prx and save it somewhere safe.
3) Delete the F0 folder that was generated.
4) Decrypt firmware 2.82 DATA.PSAR with cross (X). I don't think you can use another person's dump because of the fact that the signature check is unique to each psp's hardware (I'm not sure).
5) Transfer the F0 folder to dh/282/ in your PSP memorystick.
6) Boot devhook and first remove any Flash1 files using the Flash ROM option.
7) Using the Flash ROM option again, RE-FLASH the new Flash1 config files that come with the devhook download.

If your struggling to get it working properly, why don`t you just download the "idiot proof" package. Apparently, it takes all the hassle out of setting it up, i`m downloading it right now. I`ll let you guys know how i get on.

Apparently, in the AIO package, you need to relocate the launcher from the game folder to game150. That should solve the not starting up problem for us 2.71 se-c users, but i still can't get past the crash when starting the 2.82 firmware. Hopefully we can get this solved.

Alright, get this straight. IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING WITH THESE FILES (INSTALLING, RUNNING, ECT.) YOU SHOULD NOT BE TRYING TO USE THEM AT ALL! If you are not COMPLETELY sure of how to install or use DevHook, you should be updating to 3.01 as soon as possible, because you obviously don't belong on the homebrew scene. If something confuses you, either
A. Wait for a Noob-proof Auto Installer
Or
B. Leave the scene. Now.
You got a pretty good chance of bricking your PSP, and then blaming the devs for your idiocracy.

Some good points chaoszero. I regulary use devhook 0.46, and a snes umulator, and just because i don`t know how to set up this new devhook, doesn`t mean that people should leave the homebrew scene.
But your right about one thing though, you don`t wanna be tinkering around too much if you don`t know what your doing, as it could brick the psp.

lol, puberty. Anyways, what I'm trying to get people to understand that the scene is not for people who don't know how to do (sometimes very complex) computer/App stuff. If you wanna survive here (and not get horribly flamed and/or end up with a bricked PSP) you gotta be able to teach yourself how to run these apps and mae them work, or upgrade and use your PSP the way Sony wants you to. Homebrew is awesome (loving the se firmwares, emulators and PiPMStreamer) but if you can't figure it out, be safe and upgrade, otherise you'll probly end up with a $200 paperweight.

How is this emulation if it's flashing the rom in the PSP? also has anyone been able to get it back to 1.50 without a hitch?
i did everthing in the read me and 2.82 actually starts but then it gets to a blue screen of death and asks to hit O. i did so but it loops again and asks to press O. what am i doing wrong?
Doesn't flash the whole rom, just some user settings. You CAN get back to 1.50 completely fine.

When has BOOSTER ever let you guys down? This Devhook DOES work as long as you follow the directions. Yes they are kinda hard to read. Just get the PSARDumper V2b and dump both the 2.71 (for the audio.prx) and 2.82. Replace the audio.prx in the ms0:/dh/282/kd file with the one you got from the 2.71 eboot. Open up Devhook .50 on your psp, go under Flashrom, make sure that devhook is not installed on your flash, then hit Circle on
that mean 3.0 emu is on the way!!!! psx emulation!!! :) right now 2.81 emulation not of great use when there's hybrid 2.71/2.8 firmware for devhook 0.46 but woot!!! that's great great news!!!

I think i`m gonna go back to devhook 0.46 for now, until someone can come up with an ultimate installer like for 0.46. I`m no expert on this, so i recomend anyone regular guys out there who don`t fully know what there doin, to stick to 0.46.

Well i deleted every other line from the txt file, which helped me read it. Thanx to all who re-posted it this way. I followed the instructions, got it to work, but then found that once I shut down the PSP I could no longer start Devhook. Thanx again to whoever said to move the two folders into the Game150 folder. Now it seems to work great except... When I try to launch RSS feeds the browser opens and then shuts down the system. The regular browser seems to work fine but those Fricken RSS feeds are a no go...ANYONE KNOW WHY?
here's how i got it to run
1. copy contents of DH0500000/MS_ROOT/ to ms0:/
2. copy 2.71 data.psr on the root of memstick (ms0:/)
3. run psardumper press SQUARE
4. move ms0;/f0/kd/audio.prx to ms0:/audio.prx
5. delete ms0:/f0
6. copy 2.82 data.psr on the root of memstick (ms0:/)
7. move ms0:/f0 to ms0:/dh/282/f0
8. ms0:/audio.prx to ms0:/dh/282/f0/kd/audio.prx (overwrite existing file)
9. copy flash1:/ to ms0:/dh/282/f1 (i used fileassistant for this)
10. run devhook0.5
11. select "FLASH ROM" > "flash1: < ms0: install configfile" and press circle for 1 sec.
12. repeat step 11 (writing the config to flash 1 seems to be required)
13. uses these settings
- firmware+2.82
- cpu clock+default
- boot mode+xmb menu
14. select iso or umd
15. start devhook

Make sure you're hitting X when decrypting 2.82 and not Square. I was hitting Square on both and getting the black screen problem. After actually doing it right, boots fine.
It isnt that hard all you need is PSP Brew to extract the Data.PSAR and just find psar dumer somewhere out there and your on your way to some Devhook goodness....dont be lazy just make your own dump its easy any everyone is doing it :) BTW Booster ROX!!!!!
I started with a fresh formatted stick (512 mb), then got hold of the 2.71 and 2.82 data.psar files. put the devhook program on ur stick, then copy the 2.71 data.psar into the root o' ur stick. open psardumpmodwith sigcheck and use it (with the SQUARE button) to dump the data file into an F0 folder. the only reason for this is to get the Audio.prx file it creates inside of the (KD I think) folder. Copy this to your desktop for now, then delete the F0 folder in ur mem stick root. Repeat this process but use the 2.82 data.psar file this time and PRESS THE X BUTTON instead of the Square. This will make another F0 folder. Put the Audio.prx file (on ur desktop if u listened earlier)
into the same folder in the 2.82 dump as where u got it from in the 2.71 dump. This should replace one of the same name. You know, the folder containing like, 50 or 60 files? inside of f0? OK. Now copy everything from the f0 folder inside your mem root into the ms:\dh\kd\f0 directory. delete the old f0 folder when your done. Now, if you've been keeping up, you should be ready to launch DH from your XMB. the only setting to messs with or even click on is the Flash Rom option. Just pick the top choice with circle and a new screen will pop up. It says to hold down circle for 1 second to continue. So guess what? DO IT! After all of the files are done just hit X to return to the main Devhook screen. Press circle on the START (Top choice) and it will start. after it resets ur PSP , ur almost done. now just move the two files for devhook out of your GAME folder and put them into your GAME150 folder (If you are running 2.71SE-C) This should do the trick, as it's pretty much DH as usual from then on. MAJOR THANX GO OUT TO BOOSTER, DARK ALEX, the Professor and Maryanne, Here on Gilligan's Isle!

tons of problem tryin to get it to work...and once i did(firmware 1.5) i couldnt get the web browser (i actually got a red error screen saying that a "serious" error had occured...changing many of the default settings causes my psp to crash.....i dont kno...but i think if you havnt tried it...dont bother and just wait for the next release...i hope that one will be more stable

When using .50 luxor and mind quiz save files both say they're corrupted when I try to load them.. Anyone have any idea how to fix this?

Hey, is it just me or every time when I try to complete step 4 from chomatz's post it's not there. The only thing that is in F0:/kd is a folder called "Resource"... no Audio.prx to be found.
it works im on 2.71 se-c and got it working...it did take me awhile to figure it out but it does work.

So far, from everything I've read. The only advantage of this over the current hybrid devhook, is some people are claiming that Socom2 works online.
Other than that, there's no difference. The 2 games that don't work on hybrid, still don't work on this, and to top it off, you can't overclock, or use RSS, or Web Browser, and some people are even having problems with viewing video files under this.
Great development to be sure, but I think I'll wait until a few of the bugs are ironed out since I don't even own socom2

connect your psp to your PC,
go to usb connection under "settings" menu..
hit X.
then on your pc there will be a new drive listed..
this is your PSP's memory stick..
double-click on it,
then go to the folder "PSP"
you put the mp3 files into the MUSIC folder..
done.

did you download 2.81 to dump? or is that the firmware on your psp? If thats what you have on your psp then you can't use devhook, don't try or you might brick your psp. this is only for people who have 1.5 or 2.71se-c

First of all thank you Booster. Ok i got it working just fine, but the psp seems to freeze in a few instances like while pressing reboot without devhook and while i toggle cpu clock speeds with the menu. Browser isnt working for me either. Once again thanks to those involved in this release, just thought some feedback would be good for the developers.
Games all have worked fine including Socom 2.
Everyone is loving this, and fair play, but it's abit late when 3.01 is out now, I don't mean to sound ungrateful, but we needed this when 2.8X games started coming out.

if you dont have one laying around try fileassistant
13.start devhook
14.select "flashrom" and then the first setting (flash1: < ms0: install configfile) to flash your flash1 directory to your psp's internal flash1
15. #14 will only create directorys. repeat 14 to copy the files.
16. start devhook.

No, first posters post the "FIRST POST!!!" s-h-i-t because its hard to get first post as everyone else is trying to jump on an article that has just been posted.
Vice City plays better as an ISO file, when I converted to CSO it got a little slower. If you're running a CSO i'd suggest cenverting it back, if it's an ISO I cant help, sorry.

When i get online with Socom 2 i still asks for the update. I know this is a beta version but it keeps god damn crashing, if booster knew it was like this then when didn't he wait a bit longer while it was stable.

Just downloaded the full pack with 2.82 found elsewhere, install dh onto my root and put the game files in game150.
Copied the audio.prx from 2.71 kd folder (from my previous devook).
Set to 2.82 fw and launch XMB but I just get a black screen.
I'm running 2.71 SE B3 with noumd switch on, anyone got it running on b3 or should I upgrade to C / Downgrade to 1.50

Well actually I only own gta lcs ver 2.0 but that was for eloader only i haven't played the game at all.
What I really want to play is crisis core. Which at the moment is still not out and the demo will only be out at the jump fiesta.
It'll probably be 3.01 or by the time it gets out probably 3.6/3.71/3.81/4 who knows.
I wonder if the psp developers will continue till then. Either that or Sony comes up with uncrackable firmware.
And 1.5 psps are getting rather rare and the stupid tax is going up to 7% in February 2007. Either way I'll have to make my decision before the tax goes up or the 1.5 psps run out. Sigh

Alright there are few things that you need to know:
A)Devhook 0.50 support firmware 1.50 and 2.71 SE-C (Hen-C/D not tested yet)
B)This is just a beta stage of devhook. There are still bugs need to be fixed (e.g: CPU clock over 222/111 MHz not supported yet, Game: Cabelas African Safari.iso not compatible)
C)"Home+Start " obviouly not working in case you think you can go back to 1.50 or 2.71SE-C. You need to reboot the PSP (Hold power button).
Let begin the tutorial for the noobs(manual install):
1) Extract DH0500000.rar. Copy "dh folder" to the root of PSP (ms0:dh) and "%__SCE__DH_ENG and __SCE__DH_ENG" from the extracted MS_ROOT\PSP\GAM E to your PSP (ms:0\PSP\GAME\ put here).
2) Download "psardumpmodwith sigcheck.rar" from this same website (do a little searching will ya). Extract it and you will have 3 files: psardumpmod, psardumpmod% and src(not needed).
3)Copy psardumpmod and psardumpmod% to ms0:PSP\GAME\(p ut here).
4)Now download the official 2.71 Update. Use an application called pbp-unpacker to open the 2.71 EBOOT.pbp. You only need to extract the DATA.PSAR (File size: 14.33 MB). Put the DATA.PSAR you obtained to the root of your PSP (ms0:\DATAPSAR) .
4) In your PSP, under XMB(Menu)>Game>Memory Stick, run PSAR Dumper V2B. Press "SQUARE" to decrypt all (Notice: 1 file created in the root of the MS called F0 with many folders inside). Connect your PSP back to computer. All you need is to copy ms0:\F0\kd\audi o.prx to ms0:\dh\282\f0\ kd\(put here - 18.6 KB to be exact is 19,112 bytes). Then delete the F0 folder in the ms root.
5)Now download the official 2.82 Update. Obtain the DATA.PSAR (File size: 14.74 MB). Put the DATA.PSAR you obtained to the root of your PSP (ms0:\DATAPSAR) .
6)Run PSAR Dumper V2B again. Press "Cross" to dump encrypted with sigcheck and decrypted reboot.bin. You will get another F0 folder (but this one contained 2.82 decrypted files). Move all files from ms0:\F0\ to ms0:\dh\282\f0\ (put here including Reboot.bin). The Reboot.bin file should be 93.2 KB to be exact is 95,492 bytes.
7)Now run your Devhook0.5.BETA launcher (it says). From the TOP MENU, choose FLASH ROM and run "flash1: remove all devhook files" (do this to remove all devhook files if you had previously installed any devhook files onto PSP onboard memory flash 1). Then in the FLASH ROM menu again, run "flash1: < ms0: install configfile". Press "TRIANGLE" to go back to the TOP MENU. Then choose FIRMWARE and select firmware 2.82(MS or flash+MS).
Take note: In the Config Menu (Choose by pressing D-Pad left or right)
UMD IMAGE - UMD Disc / Emulation
CPU CLOCK - Default or 133/66 or 222/111 or 266/133 or 333/166 (don't touch it'll freeze)
UMD SFO VER - Default / force 2.00
MENU on BOOT - ON / OFF
PRELOAD ADDR - 88E00000 (and others)
FIRMWARE - not supported
REMOTE PORT - not supported
REBOOT without DEVHOOK (not supported yet, don't press it'll freeze)
CLOSE MENU (Close the Config Menu or by pressing HOME button)

you need to go into recovery mode(pressing r trigger on load) and change the kernal to 1.5..... 2.71 kernel wont work with devhook .50, it will just crash on you.
First time running 2.82 it is best to reset the psp-settings. Accessing video-settings made it crash with my psp, but after resetting the settings it is just fine

No installation for this yet, it looks like the FW 2.82 during the decription create a unique files for each PSP. So you need to follow the guide either by following axelixc or go to this website, and follow step by step.

I've got a EU PSP-1004 with FW 1.50.
When try to start 2.82 my screen turns black (normal) but it doenst start reading from the MS as it does with like 2.71. The PSP will idle for a 15 seconds, and shut down.
Then i can turn the power back on, and im back at 1.50.
Can some one help me? did anyone else experience problems?
it seems that there has been some crictical prx files crashed. that's why u keep getting the blue screen. try reinstall the whole thing using my tutorial up there.

well, i went through the crazily tedious process of getting devhook 0.5 on my psp, and it even seemed to work - until i tried using the web browser. the psp locks up and turns itself off when i try to enter a URL. sometimes UMD games freeze up too. to be honest, i think i should have stayed with devhook 0.46.
this release seems way to unstable. if i could go back and not install it i would.

Worst Devhook Ever Made. Its SOOOOOOOO Buggy and i got my from Ps3news.com which has the full 18mb verison and yet it keep frezzing. Booster lost his edge in 2.82. i hope Devhook V 0.51 comes out with alot of bugs fix or else no Devhook untill 3.01 verison comes out

We need to wait for a launcher for 2.71 like with dh .4x launcher.
You know there is beta's of 3.00 emulation floating around.
Theres a terrible problem with it though where when you check your battery or system software the psp freezes up

ok so the emulation of 2.82 is awesome and i love it, but i have a few probs with it!
1. To my knowledge there is no DAX support and or plugin for dev hook .50 (i tried the plugin for .46 and as i figured it did not work)
2. It is not compatable with Harleyg custom firmware .2 when you turn the wireless off to load devhook (again my assumption it would not work but i tried anyway)
3. when you overclock devhook to 333/166 it will either lock up or completely not load at all.
anyone know any work arounds to these issues or new plugins (although i am pretty sure they do not exist as of yet) if you do e-mail me at

I realize that its only a beta, and its great that we have this as well as C-Z's installer, but I must say it is pretty buggy and I have no need for it yet. What I wanna do is return to 0.46 like it was and wait until all the kinks are worked out. I've got 1.5 w/ harley g, how I do I return to DH .46 w/o screwing up anything on flash and what files can I delete from my memstick?

I am running 2.71 with a TA-082 motherboard, and I tried using HenC and The Devhook Launcher for 2.71 or w/e to emulate down to 1.5 in turn to emulate up to 2.82 and no luck HenC was having issues running, kept crashing so, Booster, with people like me having TA motherboards please release a devhook that can emulate 2.82 and 1.5 for 2.71 TA-082 users like me I'm so longing to play Socom FireTeam Bravo 2 online and I beg of you!!! OK I have given up on Devhook 0.50. Even the Retard Proof Version (Idiot Proof) still has some major bugs in it. I have reinstalled Devhook 0.46 back on my PSP and is up an running again. I will wait for a way better release of a Devhook with easy 1,2,3 instructions. Sort of like Mac Computers where you Plug and Play. This Devhook 0.50 Installation is a lot like PC's where you Plug and Pray.......that it works right the first time.
I upgraded to 2.81 2 days ago, I didn't feel like being left out and not being able to play games that my friends were playing so what the hell. Then 2 days later freaking devhook up to 2.82 CRAP!!!!!

The audio.prx decrypted from 2.71 DATA.PSAR must not be overwritten when files inside F0 (2.82 decrypted DATA.PSAR) to dh folder.
in every forum i have read i have not seen one person report web browser working for 2.82
i have seen many people saying stuff about issues with the webbrowser
it's cabelas africa safari. this won't run becoz the game needs new format of audio.prx from firmware 2.81. dh0.50 still using audio.prx from 2.71 which is not compatible with the safari game. the AT3 audio files of the game are all zipped with encryption.

I think there's a bit of a problem in loading games in firmware 2.82... Everytime i choose the game dave mirra bmx or Marvel Ultimate Alliance, it hangs when it reached the fmv sequences. However, when i load the Nba live 07 of NFL Street 3, the game doesn't hang and I can play it continuously. I wish booster fix this problem.

you cant have 0.46 port to 2.71 and 0.50 on your mem stick at the same time can you? if you install 0.50 it will over write the 0.46 files and then i wouldnt be able to run devhook at all

hey hey, i'm currantly using SE-C with no umd on because my umd drive broke(my lil brother went fishing with my psp and er well....). Anyway, will devhook 0.50 emulate 2.82 whilst allowing me to still run iso's with no umd?
ANyway to change the ISO like in .46 when you wanted to change isos you just hit home and L. I love this program but I also really loved the convenience of getting out of one game and being able to load another in seconds
