TA-082 Motherboard

Some thought it might be impossible, others simply felt that only God's hands could code a software downgrader for the unfortunate TA-082 people. Well, let's just say that 0okm might have finally broken the shackles imposed by the TA-082 PSPs.

Firstly, a small primer for anyone new to the whole TA-082 thing. A while back, before the Undiluted Platinum modchip came out, most people were quite oblivious to the whole mobo-mania. Then it was revealed that the modchip wouldn't work with the TA-082 motherboards. Even Dark_Alex's "downdater" couldn't downgrade 'em. Few people who were brave enough to still try it were greeted by shiny bricks. Here's how you can check if you're one of the unlucky ones to have a TA-082 mobo PSP.

The reason was quite unknown. A lot of theories existed, but it was difficult to pinpoint the real problem. Well, we can safely consider it as part of the past now, because 0okm states that he has successfully downgraded a 2.50 TA-082 PSP using a software downgrader. Until now, the only other way to accomplish a downgrade was by using hardware hacks, like 0okm's multi firmware module.

Not anymore though, because we might just have a solution for the TA-082 motherboards! Here's what he states in his blog:

"Success SoftDown FW2.50 TA-082 to FW1.00/1.50

Had found a method SoftDown TA-082's FW2.50 PSP to FW1.00/1.50
But the method is quite complex, SoftDown a TA-082's PSP need about 45min

1. Use software Read Data From TA-082's NandFlash & DDR DRam
2. Analyzes the Data than make a "FW1.00/1.50 NandFlash img" that can Boot on TA-082
3. Use software Write that "FW1.00/1.50 NandFlash img" to TA-082

maybe late i will make a software to let "FW2.50 TA-082" user to dump "NandFlash & DDR DRam" data to me
than i can make the "FW1.00/1.50 NandFlash img" to help them SoftDown their TA-082 :P"

Well, so the method might take a while and it might be a bit complex. But trust the great programmers to make an easy installation method for everyone to use. 0okm has said that he might release something as a proof of concept. Keep the fireworks ready!

This is great news.
by - 2006-08-21 08:53:01
This is awesome news

This is great, and will do a lot of good for the homebrew community now that more people are able to get in.
by - 2006-08-21 08:55:07
finally!!

Finally this can be done!!.. i bought that doomed TA** crap 3 times and returned it 3 times, the fourth time i found a non TA** at a local circuit city store and downgraded (from)...good job 0okm.. for all those TA** owners..
by - 2006-08-21 08:56:43

Is there no hope for 2.6 ta-082 users? in 0okm's blog u guys forgot to post the part about him thinking this will only work with 2.5 psp's
by - 2006-08-21 08:57:31
FW 2.6

What if you have that motherboard and with the 2.6 firmware? does that basicly mean your fuc*ed?
by - 2006-08-21 08:58:16
Cool

Well, this doesn't affect me, I've already downgraded from it, but its good, as last time a downgrader was released, the homebrew scene boomed for a while.
by Abe_Froeman - 2006-08-21 08:58:23
Good Stuff

I look forward to seeing where this will be going.
by - 2006-08-21 09:02:40
Great news

I hope that this can become true... I'd love to downgrade my second TA-82 PSP
by - 2006-08-21 09:04:00
>>

Sweet. Good news. Keep up the good work!
by - 2006-08-21 09:10:19

for those of u with fw2.6 i think you can downgrade your psp's to 2.5 without a problem, because the TA motherboard only stops any downgrade under 2.5. I THINK.
by - 2006-08-21 09:11:05
not too soon there...

But then again... it's good that they can downgrade... but the 1.0/1.5 firmware wasn't meant to be on TA-082. This might cause some problem. Won't be like the real 1.5 Like those that downgraded from 2.5/2.6, they have to update to 2.0 then downgraded to 1.5 again using MPH to get the real 1.5 stability.
by - 2006-08-21 09:12:12
2.71?????

what about 2.71 can they do a downgrade just be my Xmas present :D
by - 2006-08-21 09:13:03
Great

The good news finally come
by - 2006-08-21 09:21:11
OMFG

Crap Ookm, I think I just made wet in my pants. my 2.6 082 is just begging to be violated! I've been trying out various brews, and getting fairly dissapointed by the flakiness.. I've got probably 15 games/tools on it, but only about 4 that actually work. I'm getting really good at Spider Solitaire.....
by - 2006-08-21 09:28:40

on his comments 0okm states: that method not work on FW2.60 TA-082 maybe late it can for FW2.60 TA-082 :P to make it easyer to understand: This method doesnt work on 2.6 ta-082's but it may later.
by - 2006-08-21 09:28:45
yea

@#14 : you are right ...you make a point ! if the mobo of thats TA are diferent sony are not stupid and it may make little problem .....like updating a bios on a ASUS P5aD2 with a bios from a ASUS P800 ....trust me the mobo will be dead @#17 : people are free to speak their mind ..so please dont crap people comment , as a QJ.NET staff you shouldnt !!
by - 2006-08-21 09:38:59
upgrading

And that's why, folks, you never upgrade your firmware.

CAPACITOR TRANSISTOR

hello, you are right #20 and #14 ...a diferent modo have different capacitor or transistor ,is not just piece of plastic thei have different voltage thats the BIOS give them .....on a different mobo the transistor have an other voltage ......is the TA got some transistor 3.2 watt and the bios from a 1.5 will tell them to be 3.4 the transistor will die , or if the 1.5 give them 2.8 watt the transistor will not work any more ....all thats are exemple anyway but real ! and downgrading is at you owne risk ...so if you kill your psp , sony will be happy to sell you a new 2.8 psp ;)
by xXShadowXx - 2006-08-21 09:51:07
2.60?

This will work for 2.60?
by .A.J. - 2006-08-21 09:55:17
Cool.

Personally, I don't own any of those PSP's, however, this is potentially great news for those who do. Nice work 0okm. I hope you get it all figured out. .A.J.
by - 2006-08-21 10:05:22

So i hope this downgrade doesnt need GTAlcs, and a friend of mine wanted to ask if this works with other motherchips, not only with TA-82?
by joe45mama - 2006-08-21 10:09:22
hope

it works on other versions to, still hopeing for a 2.71 downgrader.
by - 2006-08-21 10:15:53
yay

this is awesome new's for ta-082 users hopefully the 2.71 downgrader when it comes out wont have the same problems the 2.6 and 2.5 ones did because we r figguring all this out now ^-^ so once this is done hopefully because we already have 2.71 decrypted soon we shall have a 2.71 downgrader in due time :D yay
by arramat - 2006-08-21 10:23:36
Yehey!

I've Been waiting for this! You are my savior 0okm! Hopefully you will have one for my Fw 2.6 dreaded TA Motherboard! May all the gods bless you 0okm!
by - 2006-08-21 10:37:20
yes

as for the 2.6 i remember not that long ago that downgrading a 2.6 was impossible all together now you can, everyone said the T-mobo's couldnt be downgraded now they can. Just have to wait a bit but the direction the homebrew scene's goin anything is possible
by - 2006-08-21 10:52:36
FREEDOM!

god bless your soul 0okm!

In case you didn't notice...

He has to personally analyze the data and create a NAND flash image for EVERY PERSON who wants to downgrade.
by - 2006-08-21 11:09:10
umm

umm u noe he mite like sell this coz it takes 45 mins to create the god dahm file and only he knows how to create it...so it mite not be tat gud
by - 2006-08-21 11:11:20
ta 082

if you look on his blogspot he says it cant downgrade a factory 2.60 yet but it can downgrade an upgraded 2.60 from 2.50
by Uber0ne - 2006-08-21 11:17:15

Once again I laugh at everyone who said it wasn't possible.
by Xfacter - 2006-08-21 11:18:44

I had a TA-082, but I struck a deal with a friend and came out with a 1.5, but this is still great for those still stuck with one. I know how frustrating it is.
by cory1492 - 2006-08-21 11:43:21
unfortunately

You get peoples hopes up... 0okm seems to be more of a "hey guys, I can do this..." kind of person who patiently waits for oohs and aahs...
by - 2006-08-21 11:46:35
Analysis / creator software

Let's see whether Ookm will release some more information about the software that analyses the NAND dump and creates the modified loader 1.00/1.50 for the PSP that's to be downgraded. If it runs on a PSP (the 45 mins would suggest this) but also needs his TA-082 compatible dual-NAND board to work then we're out of luck since sending firmware files back and forth might cause legal problems for Ookm (we already know a single reboot.prx file caused problems).
by - 2006-08-21 11:59:47

i wounder if they might be able to make a program that dose all of it for you so you dont have to take 45 minuets...
by Erekiddo - 2006-08-21 12:57:27
1.5 user.....

if you could see what i see....
by - 2006-08-21 13:02:21
From what I understand...

So I went to his site to read up on this, and it seems that a factory 2.60 TA-082 psp can't downgrade, but a 2.50 TA-082 can be downgraded, even if the 2.50 has been updated to 2.60. So, this means that virgin 2.60 TA-082 PSP's can't be downgraded...yet. Just trying to clear things up.
by - 2006-08-21 13:07:07
wait

i thought TA-082's didn't recognize FW UNDER 2.5?
by the_darkside_986 - 2006-08-21 13:23:09
Good news

I just hope this amounts to a real downgrader for TA-82. I wonder how that new libtiff exploit in 2.71 is working out so far... I think the PSP system would be almost perfect if we could get to the point where all PSP's universally could be downgraded. How about Sony take a hint and allow homebrew instead of wasting their time and money on security fixes and lack of useless firmware features. I don't think iso loaders would be as popular as Sony thinks. But the far better N64 and SNES games would be a problem for them since the PSP's commercial developers can't obviously think of anything better.
by the_darkside_986 - 2006-08-21 13:27:59
*crap

*I meant LACK of USEFUL fw features. A useful fw feature would be, for example, the ability to play .mpg files off the XMB, not that stupid mp4 crap.
by - 2006-08-21 15:08:29
well..

Does anything that this guy makes actually work 100%? Everything seems to have one caveat or another..
by - 2006-08-21 15:12:42
Holy cow!!!!

nice job i knok you would be the jesus from the TA-082 mobo psps
by - 2006-08-21 15:15:29
Right...

If anyone wants to know how this works, allow me to take some time to explain... Thanks to this news, I've just myself figured out how to reverse engineer the board. Basically, updates later than 1.50 have been able to tell whether the PCB is a TA-082... If it IS, it'll read what I call the "special code", and then re-encrypt the IPL with this code, thus, when booted, knocks out the lockout that this chip initiates. Luckily for us, it appears that this code remains in RAM for one to dump. Dumping this code and then getting a 1.50 firmware dump and RE-ENCRYPTING it WITH THIS CODE means that a TA-082 MotherBoard can boot a 1.50 firmware! See, some n00bzz were right... It's NOT hotlisted, it is to do with the better security of later firmwares! (It's assumed that this is the hidden feature of 1.51??) Anyways, if you wanna find the code yourself go ahead and try, it's different for every TA-082 motherboard('s chip)!!!

by - 2006-08-22 05:34:50
hooray for ta-82's

to 49. » Right... Yes it sounds this way that you need the code or id from the mb chip to reencode the image to boot 1.5 firmware. What I don't get is that although the code/id will be different on every board it must be on the same place in memory. So in essance this process of looking up the code then reencrypting can be automated. This way people can get software which they install and then wait 45mins for the re-encryption and afterwards downgrade fully automated. Anyway, it's good it has been done and I hope to see an automated downgrader somewhere in the future... For now I've bought a second hand psp with broken umd drive just to rip out the ta-81 and replace my ta-82 until the actual downgrader arrives :). Incidently I already did this during the weekend and mine wouldn't boot. Then I swapped them back and both psp's would boot again. So it's not only the motherboard you need to swap but also the little board underneath it (to the left of the umd). This also suggests the same idea that on this second board some checks are done. I will do the swap again tonight or tomorrow...

YES! You kids with TA-082s deserve this shiznit. You truly deserve a downgrader, instead of the losers who upgraded to v2.70 and up, as no PSPs are being sold with anything higher than v2.6 yet. Screw those v2.7+ retards. They should have waited.

Hi guys, my problem is that I don't have any number on my psp. What should I do. Mine came with the V.2.60 because my psp got damaged and so they changed it for me. The box was black. Need help.
by - 2006-09-24 19:19:46

well Dark_Alex has created something that allows for homebrew to run from the XMB on the 2.71 software. so i'm not risking this. (devhook works on 2.71 as well.)
