Double whammy: new PSP CFW 5.00 M33-6 from Dark AleX released |
It hasn't been 24 hours yet since the latest PSP official firmware 5.03 rolled out from Sony, and already Dark AleX has released the latest custom firmware update. It's actually a double whammy, with him creating M33-5 and updating that to the latest M33-6 just a few moments later!
This update is a try to fix memory stick low speed since 3.80.
Instructions: Copy UPDATE folder /PSP/GAME/ and run.
If you come from a version prior to 5.00 M33, put sony update as 500.PBP in same folder, or let the program download it for you using a wifi connection.
Changes in 5.00 M33-5:
A setting has been added to recovery, that, when enabled it may increase memory stick reading speed. (only on the psp, not in the pc). By default it is disabled. If you installed 3.71 fatmsmod, do not use this setting, as its perfomance with 3.71 driver has not been tested. Instead, reinstall 5.00 m33-4 using dc8 and update to 5.00 m33-5
Changes in 5.00 M33-6:
Fixed a bug that made unbootable psp without memory stick or with a bad one.
The included file fat_comparison.html contains a comparison of perfomance between the 5.00 fat driver, the 3.71 one, and the 5.00 one with the speed up hack during the read of an iso. The test was done on the game Valkyrie Profile in cso format in march33 mode. Other games, modes and applications different than iso reading showed similar results.

Sony should learn from independent developers and provide Updates that feature improvements, not denials!
I was checking the update for no reason after 5.03 got released and i updated to m33-5 and now i saw the article and m33-6 is already out, either there are no updates for a while or theres a huge load of them one after another all at once.
This is why you gotta love the hacking and homebrew community.
sorry for being an idiot, but what does "bad memory stick" exactly stand for in that sentence :

i have a few sony fakes (unfortunately) and i didn't have issues for a brief time with 5.00-5.
the thing i like about m33 cfw is that the author tries to come up with something extra every time, just like the memory stick driver hack in this release. that's pretty cool.
You can always use Pandora and Magic Mem Stick to go too a earlier custom firmware. That also makes it so if you brick, you can fix it.

I bricked my silver slim psp 5.00 m33-4 by using hellcats recovery flasher 1.50 and someone from sony is coming to fix it what do I DO!!!!!!

uhh you haven't got pandora? try restarting without memory card, might be an incompatible plugin.
cxmb does work. i was using themes converted for 5.02 Gen-A...

So it's Bricked with just a green light and black screen? Sony can't find out how you did it. Just say when you were Updating it with the new Update "5.03", you dropped ure PSP and now it wouldn't turn on.

Just drop the 5.00 EBOOT.PBP into "RECOVERY"
Then drop "RECOVERY" into PSP\GAME on the memstick...
Then you can update...
Still no reason to update from 3.71 m33-4?

So is it just me or anytone else haveing a problem installing the update through network update. Im using Gen A full cfw. Will it not work because its gen A or does it not really matter.

It's faster than fatmsmod371.prx. Two psps, game backup cso of Higurashi Daybreak, one fat 5.00m33-4 with fatmsmod371.prx, one slim 5.00m33-6, without fatmsmod371.prx, and speed up ms access enabled, same characters and scene --> sorry, don't know how to write it, the slim loads faster than one second.

If you're 5.02 GEN A, then you would need to downgrade to 5.00m33-6 5.02-->5.00 is a downgrade. Use pandora or hellcats recovery flasher, dude!
My experiment: CSO: Higurashi Daybreak
- Fat 5.00m33-4: fatmsmod371.prx and slim 5.00m33-6: without fatmsmod371.prx, speed up ms access enabled: Fat loads faster than 3 seconds.
- Fat 5.00m33-4: fatmsmod371.prx and slim 5.00m33-6: with fatmsmod371.prx, speed up ms access enabled: Slim loads faster than 1 second.
yes, download the update then look at fat_comparison.html then try it for yourself
So i tried downgrading from 5.02 Gen a using hellcat recovery and now its bricked. I just get a black screen with a green light. Is there any way to fix this. Before it happened i changed the setting to make battery pandora battery did that mess it up? Please if there is any fix help me.
i have a phat psp with sony's firmware 4.05 and i just want to know what do i need to do to install and use this firmware, cuz i've been around and its kinda confusing what you have to do and i don't wanna mess it up so can somebody point me to a place where it has a dummies version of install this firmware for 1st timers, thx.
So Im reading a little about bricked psp and it says useing a pandora battery i could recover. But my question is before I flashed I his make battery pandora in the recovery menu so do i already have a pandora battery on the back of the battery say 3.6v 1800 . BTW I get a black screen green light no recovery menu I know maybe theres a better place to ask these questions but I got in this mess because of what someone on this forum told me to do so thought maybe i could get some help from here too

Vice City Stories doesn't cut up anymore. like when i'm driving fast, and the game slows down so it can load up details, and the memory stick light blinks like crazy. that's all gone now. i love this update.

I'm currently running the official version 5.02 firmware. I'm loading the UPDATE Folder into the PSP/GAMES directory, but my psp keeps telling me the data is corrupt. Do I need to preload any previous CFW?
Yes you need custom firmware. Google "Pandora's Battery" without the quotes.

I was an avid psp user when i got one a year ago. I used it a lot and I modded it and everything. Then I ran out of home brew. All psp home brew creators ran out of ideas and now the psp sucks. You guys are all loser nerds if you still have yours. If you take your psp in public do you know what people think? "Whoa, look at that nerd playing with his little game boy." That is really embarrassing. You should seriously sell yours while people ares still dumb enough to buy them.
