Devhook v0.46

A new day and a new version of DevHook awaits us. First, a big reminder: This doesn't emulate firmware 2.80. Get that out of your mind. Second, about the news you've been reading on other sites: NO, 2.80 isn't decrypted, just extracted. Anyways, on with the update about Devhook.

The new version has a few major changes. And who better than Jeff Chen to get it translated! Here's a whole list of new updates:
  • Implemented the function for combining Flash emulation from the Memory Stick and the internal flashROM of the PSP
  • Countermeasure for Memory Stick file damaging bug
  • Fixed the problem that prevents returning from FW 2.XX to normal FW
  • Now forbids mounting "flash0:" in write mode
  • Major changes to the launcher menu
  • English launcher changed back to the original alphabetic folder
  • Added management functions for built-in FlashROM to the launcher (no function for installing into MS)
  • Added the auto launch time setting for the launcher > See "MS_ROOT/dh/autorun.ini".
  • Added the application for exiting from inside FW2.XX DevHook.
  • Added "umdciso_P47_SS_2000.prx" to resolve the problem the comma dropping problem of ciso. The setting is now like PRIORITY=47 , SHORT SLEEP,ciso buf=0x2000. Just replace the file "umdciso.prx"
One thing to note is that this version allows you to flash a part of the dump onto the PSP's flash, making emulation faster. But since the usage is still a grey area, I'd recommend you guys to not try it out, especially if you're using a custom firmware. We'll know more about it in the days to come...

Booster has also released the Devhook SDK, so if you want to contribute to the development of devhook, you can start as soon as you want! You don't need to use the SDK if you just want to emulate firmwares. The SDK is just for developers.

hi, is there a possibility to get out of emulated 2.71 back to 1.50 without power off the psp?

» Yes, exiting 2.xx is possible

There are modded versions of 0.45 out there wich alow you to exit 2.xx firmware by pressing 'home' + 'start'

I am a bit scared of the 0.46 version cause of the Flash writing option ^^

Flashin is optional and works fine. I'm not sure how much space custom firmwares take, but I'd approach the method with caution if you have one installed.

The Tekken UMD contains the 2.71 update but the game only requires 2.6. I have checked the Jap and US realeases and they both only need 2.6 fw so i think the EU release would be the same.

» great work

Much respect to the devs of the program, but until a game comes out that requires 2.8 firmware (which will be a while) and it is implemented I don't need this. This version does not have any advantages for me as I really ain't into flashing my psp with all these little firmware things. Also the emulation of the firmware didn't seem to be slow to me. Since I use my psp for games (not isos) and homebrew the .44 version works just fine for me. But keep up the great work guys you are amazing

WiFi never worked at 333Mhz in any version. It required another wlan.prx file that was never included. I guess the reason is that it is not too healthy for the psp to be using wifi at 333Mhz due to heat or at the very least the battery would be flat faster than you could blink

» Naming updates

It might have avoided some confusion about the ability to load fw2.80 if this release was named 0.45a instead of 0.46. It would make more sense to me if each numbered release mirrored the ability to load a new firmware revision. That is to say:

0.46 -> 2.80

0.45a/b/c -> bugfixes, load 2.70

0.45 -> 2.70/1

0.43a/b/c -> bugfixes, load 2.50

0.43 -> 2.50/1

0.42 -> 2.00/1

etc.

WE NEVER said it was from booster. Someone else made it, all ti does is extract the 2.8 firmware into the dh folder, this is because it was edited off the devhook installer.

The firmware is not decrypted thguh and we have yet to retrieve the reboot.bin form 2.8, so NO, we cannot boot 2.8 in devhook yet.

Yes it will go back to 1.5

The way it works is in your PSP's flash there is a flash0 and a flash1 what devhook does is make a dh folder in both of those and puts the files in there so instead of having the emulated firmware write to the memory stick it writes into those dh folders which speeds it up. It never touches any of the other folders in there that hold the 1.5 firmware.

» how to auto boot with harleys v2

1-download & install the 1.1 mod from another ps2/psp site,

2- copy the eboot from psp/game/__sce__dh_mod

3- paste the eboot to psp/system

4- rename it to DEVBOOT.PBP

5- restart with ur custom mod switched on

6- rejoice as u can now fast boot dh 46!!

7- hold triangle if you want to edit ur settings or flash to rom

Hope this helps, it lets u fast boot the latest devhook with flash support!

» Autorun

To aurorun devhook, just create a file call AUTORUN.INI and place it into MSROOT:/dh/

This will autoexec the devhook.ini settings

I too have issues running devhook with 333 clockspeed, works OK if used on 222

» why update? use devhook!

Just to remind people emulating firmware such as 2.71 on Devhook to run games is a way to keep Homebrew and at the same time run your latest games. We all know its a pain to update your firmware just to play your latest game. 1.5 all the way I say!!!!. 2.80 doesnt have a lot of extra features to update. But I would only emulate this firmware to run latest games only if it is needed.

» *LISTEN UP PEOPLE*

for the few noobs out there that are questioning the safeness of the flash writing - the BIOS in a psp(firmware that runs it) is called EEPROM. this is a type of ROM (usually no able to be written to in ROM format) that can be written to by special apps. this is a great thing for updating your BIOS. Sony should be well aware of it though as should you after reading this that repeated "flashing" (updating) of the EEPROM wears it down. after too many flashes it will no longer work. This function on Devhook .46 may work without a glitch or brick involved, but i would advice you to take caution in constantly flashing your EEPROM. When it dies - your PSP dies :(

» using devhook for running UMD's?

you guys do know you dont need devhook to runn 2.6+ games? you can use x-flash to change your f/w version to 9.99 or something so you can run all the latest games.

Judging from what you said in that post...

I guess English is not your main language, is it?

(Not meant as an insult.)

» If you are waiting for 2.80 to be decrypted just for the demos...

I have a solution:

Inside the PSP/GAME folder, for demos there should be another folder: for example, USUS98662 with the EBOOT.PBP inside.

Another example: UCJS10043 (Mercury Meltdown)

What you have to do is change the second letter:

the C in mercury meldown's code is for 2.80, the S in LocoRoco's code is for 2.7X.

Sadly, it doesn't work for either World Tour Soccer, but it works for Mercury.

» HOW I dont really get it...

hey people.

i am using v2.71 and i donno why the hell it doesnt work. maybe i am making it wrong or wat. anyway can some one tell me what to do to make this work for v2.71????

thanks

» Mercury Meltdown demo

I found this in the Mercury Meltdown demo opened with editor: "UCJS10043 1.00 2.80"

Maybe this says the PSP that you need a newer firmware.

But when I save it the PSP says "Corrupted Data"

And #118:

Your idea doesn't work.

I could rename it to "USJS10043", "Mercury Meltdown" or whatever, it still says that I need 2.80.

(I tried it with emulated 2.71)

» WHAT IS GOING ON WITH 333MHZ???

Right now I am using Devhook 0.44 and I thought it was the isos that I was using that were bad. I was setting it to 333mhz just I did with previous versions of Devhook. EVERYTHING CRASHED AT THE LOADING SCREEN. I did not have a problem using 333mhz on the version I was using before but after reading this thread I see Im not the only person with this problem. People are even saying that 333mhz does not work with this version either. What is going on? Booster or Jeff C. can you answer these questions?

1.0 Is this fixable?

1.1 Is this problem being addressed?

1.2 If fixable will it be in the next version?

#116

No, you can't (excepted a few older games), because the newer games need newer system-files from newer firmware.

You can't use DevHooK with 2.XX, so it can't brick your 2.80 PSP. (It won't even brick any 1.50 PSP)

» devhook is for psp 1.5 only

to 131,

devhook is for psp 1.5 only. If your psp comes up with 2.71 originally, i'm afraid that you have only one choice, just keep an eye on the homebrew and wait. I am sorry to tell you about it.

» TO 115

I understand the concept of what you said, but does that involve going from 1.50 to 2.71 & vice versa? Does that effect the EEPROM? Becuz I heard devhook does it from the memory stick, and not from the actual PSP.
