PSPJust a few short minutes after releasing HEN D, Dark_AleX has just released 2.71 SE-C Custom Firmware, the update to the new golden firmware.

And while the changelog is small to say the least, the great thing is that the newly released SDK along with it will make sure that all the new updates will actually be rolled out in the form of modules.

Changes:
  • The ability to load modules from the memory stick
The installation this time isn't a simple upgrade. You will have to install the firmware from scratch, though the install method is pretty simple and all those who've installed 2.71 SE before will feel right at home. Here's the instructions to get 2.71 SE-C on your PSP.
  • Extract seupdmaker, seupdmaker%, 271seflasher and 271seflasher% from the NEWINSTALL folder into your GAME150 Folder (GAME folder on 1.50 or if you've changed it from the Recovery menu in 2.71 SE)
  • Download the 1.50 and 2.71 Firmware updates.
  • Rename the update PBP files to 150.PBP and 271.PBP
  • Move them to the seupdmaker folder.
  • After that, run the Update Maker application from the GAME menu. Once it's done making the DXAR file, move the newly generated DXAR file to the 271seflasher folder.
  • Run 271 SE Flasher from the GAME menu to install 2.71 SE-C.
  • Once installed, you can delete all the four folders.
You can check out our previous 2.71 SE release coverage for more detailed instructions.

Note: Before installation, you should probably check if the generated DXAR file is the correct size and clean. You can do that by downloading any app which generates a MD5 checksum and comparing it with the one given below.
SHA1 of DXAR: A283CFC4EFA274A1A41C7A11E7EFF8FE1A59473A
MD5 of DXAR: E51EFACDAAF088F0308857FFDA6C18FA

» yo not much help..

cheers for the update alex but there is one small thing i'd like to say that this will probably only be useful for developer,as you can already install modules which are packaged as eboots.... i.e. the mp3 module which is great, but nonetheless alex will soon be challenging sony for update speed lol...and i bet he has better consumer service!

» SE-B* to SE-C

From The Readme:

If you are in a previous version of SE, simply copy the seupdmake, seupdmaker%, 271seflasher and 271seflasher% folders to

/PSP/GAME150 and follow the same instructions than when installing from 1.50.

I just upgraded from SE-B'' and now i can't see my (legally backed up) ISOs in the XMB. Also, are the GAME150 and GAME271 Folders of any use any more, the items in GAME271 aren't showing up anymore, i'm not sure about the GAME150 Folder, i don't have any Hombrew in that folder, i had SE-B'' set so the GAME folder is 1.50 kernel. I think i will go back to SE-B''. Good Work Anyway Dark_Alex

I am working on an auto-install for this. That way noobs can just run the update on their PSP's without all the complicated steps. It makes the DXAR file from the eboots, and then puts it all in the right place on the PSP. I'll post it when it is done, and out of testing which is predicted to be about 8:30 tonight.

you make a folder called seplugins on the root of you memory stick. then you place the prx in there. then create either a game.txt for ingame prx's like cwcheat or make a vsh.txt for xmb prx's. Inside the game/vsh.txt you ms0:/seplugins/xxx.prx. I can't quite get it to work, but it can recognize it.

by clintarjones - 2006-11-25 11:47
» so far

Hello gay person who tried to post as me.. don't know what else to do. i didn't have a previous SE installed, just followed these instructions here to install. Looks like everything went fine. I don't see anything in the README about if I have to create folders for 1.5 homebrew or something. Is that something you have to do? I didn't see anything about that anywhere. The PSP logo comes up, and then the light flashes as if it's reading the memory stick, and just stops there.

» I Fixed It

Hey helper, formatting my mem stick didn't work, so i went throught all of the steps again to reinstall SE-C, and i was a little hasty before and just used that DATA.DXAR that i had backed up from installing SE-A, and on top of that, i didn't check the MD5. I now just made a DATA.DXAR using the new update maker, and it worked.

Word from the wise, make a new DATA.DXAR

Can be answered from reading the readme carefully.

What is the point of Dark Alex spending any time creating a Readme if the majority of people

1) Do not bother to read it or

2) Do not read it properly and

3) Ask questions that are already clearly answered in the Readme.

I have not seen one question so far that has been asked that cannot be answered by doing a bit of reading.

in the recovery menu configuration there's a game folder homebrew: (currently: 2.71 kernel) option, change that to 1.50 kernel and it will load them from the game folder. you can also hide corrupt icons here, since there's no reason not to.

To downgrade from any SE firmware (SE-A, SE-B, SE-B' etc.) all you need to do is place the 1.5 EBOOT (re-name it to 'UPDATE.PBP') into the 'RECOVERY' (which should be in your 'GAME' folder) and then hold R on PSP start up to enter recovery mode and just select 'Run program at /PSP/GAME/RECOVERY/EBOOT.PBP' and voila.
