Dark_AleX and Mathieulh have formed a formidable partnership which doesn't look like it will slow down anytime soon. And yet again, Dark_AleX has updated his ground-breaking piece of work, the homebrew enabler for FW 2.71. The big feature in this latest version is the ability to launch static ELFs. To those who've just joined us, all the current homebrew is basically compiled as a static ELF. Up to this version, it was not possible to launch them, which meant that any homebrew which had to be run on 2.71 had to be re-compiled keeping a few guidelines in check.With this new update, you can run almost all your user-mode homebrew. Here's the full changelog:
- User mode static ELF's are now starting to work. Tested with SNES TYL 0.3 (user mode version), PSPMaster and CPS2PSP 1.0 (user mode version). Kernel mode static ELF's are still not supported, they are a very odd case in 1.XX of kernel code loaded to user memory. Kernel Homebrew for 2.71 has to be written with a user main ELF/PRX that load kernel PRX's. Note that the homebrew must be in a true PBP, not KXploited!.
- User mode PRX's could load other user mode PRX's, but kernel mode PRX's couldn't load user mode PRX's. This is fixed.
- Patched the firmware to allow it to understand the old SFO format(avoiding the error of data is corrupted).
- Added a small win32 binary that will give you a hint about if a homebrew can work or not in the current release. Note that this is only a hint.
"To update from HEN revision A to B, hard reset your psp (to make sure that hen is not running). Then copy the new files to the memory stick and run the tif. The new files will be automatically updated."
For those who're gonna be doing this hack for the first time, the instructions are included in the readme. Make sure to check it out before doing this hack. Since it modifies the flash, you have to take care. It has already been tested many times, and it will work properly. If you're still scared, you can even use the homebrew enabler as a Devhook mod. The files are included in the same file.
Finally, it has been known that some sites have been modifying homebrew for their personal glory. We have received word from Mathieulh that editing the files can possibly corrupt the eboot, or in worst cases, brick your PSP when using it. To make sure this doesn't happen, please download this file from either Dark_AleX's site, or from our download site linked below. We have the original file, directly, from Mathieulh's IRC channel and you can be rest-assured that our file is clean and safe. So without further ado, here's the download link below. Enjoy!

please download this file from either Dark_AleX's site, or from our download site linked below. There are other reliable sites besides yours. Just because PS2NFo is ruining the scene doesn't mean other sites aren't trust worthy. I remember when a file you guys hosted was bricking psps and you removed it. So your not completely free of mistakes either way.

I too Am still using henb, sounds great now 2.71 can run eboots (not made for 2.71). great job Dark Alex and Mathieulh. I was once a sad 2.60 TA-082 users before hen and your devhook mod now both my psps can run everything (1.5 and 2.71). @7 They can't say if any other sites do or dont change things since they dont know for sure (or care), so don't ***** at PSPUpdates for telling people to get it from sites they know don't. Thx again Dark Alex and Mathieulh keep up the great work.

We're not taking pot-shots at other sites. But since we don't upload files on other sites, we can never be sure. I'm sure almost all of the other trusted sites will mirror it too, but when the article was out, nobody had it up yet, so I felt it was my responsibility to inform our readers before something bad happened and DA/Math had to face the blame for it.

@ FLai then shutup @ toto hold the power switch up for 10-15 sec and the psp will shutoff turn it back on and you just did a hard reset. @ OR This makes 2.71 (after emu 1.5) psp able to run everything I'll say it again everything 1.5 psps can run =)

@ tinneff Nope (until henD or somthing, lets us run everything from 2.71 XMB) since pmpmod is not usermode, but who cares. Just emu 1.5 then run it very simple.

I have 1.5, but as soon as I can run kernal mode homebrew on 2.71, I'm upgrading for sure. What would be the point of staying at 1.5 if I could do everything on 2.71? Looking forward to it!

I've tested this under devhook, and it doesn't run much of my homebrew collection :( only bookr runs, the rest all fail after the boot logo (I think atleast some of them are usermode), but hey, it's good progress! kudos to DA!

I'm starting to get excited about this. I have 1.5 now, but it would be nice to have all the features of 2.71 with the homebrew capabilies of 1.5. 1.5 is losing ground fast, and as soon as my favorite homebrews work with this without having to bend over backwards... I never thought I'd say this, but I'll upgrade.

I have both 2.71 and 1.5 and Im sorry but Sony sucks at adding features, everything they added (thats any good) 1.5 already has and or even better (PMPMOD AVC / links ) I wont upgrade my 1.5 (and maybe never will, but for now no need too). It's true 2.71 is great and will get better and better, but that has nothing to do with Sony's (features) its because of the people like (Dark_AleX / Mathieulh / Saotome / psp250 / Skylark / NOPx86 / Jim Paris / Chris Swindle / joek2100 / Fanjita / Booster / and anyone else I forgot, sorry)
im at 2.7 and im planning to update when ftb 2 comes out. is there any way i can do this and play ftb 2 without updating. i found a no update file... will it work on this???
your talking about somthings that not released..funny who knows what Firmware it will need to play but since 1.5 users have been able to play all games I dont see why not.. ask after you buy the game and cant get it to start. I can see the day coming when 1.5 & 2.71 users emu 3.0. PS: No lame game (lame game = fun for 1-2 weeks) is worth losing everything/all homebrew thats a fact.
Hi i`m new to all this homebrew stuff i got eloader to workon a 2.6 psp via the GTA liberty city exploit and have run a snes game on it is there a comprehensive read me to help me. Or is there a better bit of software to run stuff on my psp cheers.

man your way behind the times noone uses GTA eloader anymore get the tiff eloader 99 from noobz most homebrew works with that your better off updating to 2.71, since the tiff eloader works with 2.71 and with this release 'HENc' you can run devhook mod and emu 1.5 then run ALL homebrew. hope this helps

no this is a realy problem, not a this wont work on psp problem. I am using RevC in devhooked 2.71 i have found that it stops you playing certain UMDs, the ones affected all seem to be pre v2 UMDs or modified ISOs e.g. proevo5 (from back in UMD Emulator days) with prx from wipeout pure. i hope this will be of some use to Dark_Alex in helping him perfect this great piece of work
Please... if you want info, read all the articles realated with your question. For those who can't find an answer there goes some tips: 1. If you have a TA-082 (any firmware but 2.8) upgrade it to 2.71 (it can be downloaded at the "firmware" section of this forums) 2. Jump to the Dark_AleX link ON THIS FORUM (not the link to his page, only if you want to download the original files) to see the details of his previous releases 3. With HENB2 and his 2.71 porter you can run iso's and emulate firmware 1.5 on a 2.71 console and also run homebrew (for this you need to look for the 1.5 and 2.71 firmware dumps) NOTE: AGAIN... if you read the forums of this topics you'll find the links to download this and the tutorials to make it work.... REEEEEEEEEEAD PLEEEEEEEEASE!!!!!!

ok is it possible for devhook to switch to fw1.50 but make it permanent. The hard task of switching fw1.50 with 2.71 has already been completed. Is it even possibly?

nice post but people don't need 2.71 dump since its already on the flash use the newest devhook mod from DA and pick option 2.71(flash). Easy clean and fast =). PS: I like to use 'version changer' to fake/change the firmware 1.5 on the MS to 2.0 (its still 1.5) then using devhook you can play your backup games without anyumd, well any games (1.0-2.0). Great little old trick.

the answer to #66 is: -if u hav a non TA-082 mobo on ur psp and r 2.71 or lower, u should hav already used a downgrader to get to 1.5 -if u HAVE a TA-082 mobo then it is impossible to permanantly hav fw 1.5, the mobo cant do it (but 0okm is still working on the softdown =-) which will make it possible) DONT TRY TO UPGRADE TO 2.0 FW AND THEN DOWNGRADE TO A 1.5. IT WILL BRICK UR PSP.
I successfully installed the HEN Revision c (the Devhook version). However, I am having trouble making it coexist with the VSHEX DLX2 mods. When I put in the HEN files in the PSP, the VSHEX DLX2 mod doesn't work. The menu doesn't open when I press HOME. Then when I put in the mod files, of course then hen revision c doesn't work, since I am rewriting the psptncf.txt (probably got that name wrong) and the other file. I tried to add all the lines from the hen file, that aren't already in the VSHEX DLX2, onto the VSHEX DLX2 file. When I do this, my PSP screen just stays black, and then turns off again (don't worry, it's not bricked). When I rewrite the files with either the VSHEX DLX2 files or the hen revision c files, then my PSP actually starts up like normal. Is there a way to somehow use both of them so that both work together?
why demo homebrew run in 2.80? like soccer '06, maybe it can use a way to hack the demo homebrew, to make a homebrew game for fw 2.80!

I am sure that the devs are trying to hack away at 2.80 any way that they can. Unless they can find a way to access kernel mode and get more freedom, they can't really develop anything for it and therefore this is why homebrew isn't possibly on 2.8x (or fully possible that is). Firmware has always been worked on in order, 2.0->2.5/6 -> 2.71, and at some point 2.80 will probably be hacked fully, but they need their time!! Homebrew wasn't available on 2.7/1 for a while, and wasn't available on 2.5 or 2.6 until a decent time after it was released, so why does every one think that homebrew can just magically be created for 2.8/1 when they haven't even been out for that long...Patience is the key my friends... @16: I couldn't bet A or B to work either, but I tried C on a different pro duo and it worked. So if revision D comes out eventually, try installing it from a different memory card. It worked for me, you might as well give it a shot.
the file which go into ms0:/dh/271/flash0/kd you dont put in there as that removed the files which devhook uses to load DLX2, you need to edit the DLX2 equivalent files by removed plain2x.prx from the list and replacing it with systemctrl_dh.prx apparently you need to put this on line 12 of the files the files you edit are pspbtcnf.txt and pspbtcnf_game.txt Thanks Tony

This is pretty amazing, just tried it out, it makes 2.71 almost exactly like 1.5 with the ability to launch homebrew from the game menu. I don't think its getting enough fame for all it does, this is like the eloader except dark_alex didn't have to code it to load eboots, he just let the PSP do the work. This is pretty amazing and if dark_alex had a donate site I'd probably be there right now donating some money. Good work dark_alex. If a revision comes out that allows kernel mode homebrew, its just as good as 1.5 besides the fact that you have to view the image if your PSP crashes. But then again, if all you 1.5 user's upgrade to 2.71, you get the web browser and support for a ton of more things, so maybe its worth having to view the picture sometimes to run things from the game menu. This is awesome.

Abdullah, I had the same problem and I did some testing and narrowed it down to the fact that the usbhostfsDLX.prx from the Wedge's DLX2 mod seems to be incompatible with the systemctrl_dh.prx mod from Dark Alex. In pspbtcnf.txt and pspbtcnf_game.txt, try commenting out the line that looks like: ms0:/dh/kd/DLX/usbhostfsDLX.prx by putting a # in front of it, like so: #ms0:/dh/kd/DLX/usbhostfsDLX.prx this worked for me, now I can boot into Devhooked 2.71, run some 1.0 Eboots, and still access the DLX2 menu system. By commenting out usbhostfsDLX.prx though, you lose the ability to stream umd images off the PC over usb. If you never did then, then no loss. Cheers, nk64.
i dont use the usbhosts mod as it isnt much use to me, so i just deleted that line but i found it did work with usbhosts from dlx but you do have to remove plain2x.prx as systemctrl_hs.prx does the same as plain2x and the 2 cannot be loaded together btw i hope it works for you, works pefectly for me :)

Running 1.5FW emulated on a 2.71 PSP almost perfectly. I'm having problems loading some .cso files using dev hook .46. I get the fffffed3 error. Anyone have this problem too?

I say upgrade away man, Ookm's working on a 2.71 downgrader for us TA-082's so if you ever want to downgrade just wait for that, also the eloader works on 2.71 too! Upgrade and use devhook to emulate 1.5, and you can run even more homebrew then eloader can, also, if your into ISO's, then you don't have any reason not to upgrade.

Dark_AleX has done some great work on this, but I will still continue to use custom firmware. I can just boot straight to 2.71 because it allows you to have dual boot (WLAN up= 1.5, WLAN down =2.71) I can also boot straight to irshell. I dont have to bother devhook emulating 1.5. But anyway, Dark_AleX has made 2.71 an awesome firmware, second only to the great custom firmware (which Dark_AleX also made possible!) THANKS DA
finally 2.71 gets some of the features us 1.5 owners have had for ages, now they think its the way to go, nah. 1.5 is best and always will be *****es.
I dont fully understand the difference between kernel mode and user mode programs WHen using HEN C do i still need to use devhook and 1.5 emulated in order to run SNES 0.4?
To play isos you muys emulate 1.5, mount the iso, the re-emulate 2.71. This is the only way i've figure out to play all of the ISO games.
i copyed the folder into the root.then i copied the src into the root.then i cpoied the devhook into GAME.i tryed to run the tif and it said it was unsopported data.what went wrong.i have a fw 2.71.i dont know can someone please help me?
there is a way to downgrade 2.8 back to any verson but will need to somehow make any psp update eboot into the photo folder hack and a bypass to use the kernel drive

I installed revision B on my psp. How do i upgrade it revision C? Should I take the same steps as upgrading Rev. A to Rev. B? I find systemctrl.prx is different in Rev. C. So if I view Henc in Photos menu, will it be written in flash again? Someone please help!

HOLY WORKING ISO's BATMAN!!, This program rocks!!! I thought that having a TA-082 PSP was going to condemn me from the UMD format for life, but along came the HEN_C and DEVHOOK for 2.71 and lo and behold I was now enjoying HOMBREWS and ISO ( of cousrse this are my ISO's which i backed up from my OWN OWNED UMD's). I know installing and running the programs are complicated but once you installed it correctly (which unfortunately took me 5 days) you will definitely REJOICE as I did. AGAIN THNX DARK_ALEX and BOOSTER. p.s.: Is it illegal to post here, on how I made my PSP TA-082 run both programs? cuz I want to help all my TA-082s sufferers to be unburdened by this mother board.

I downloaded the enabler then ran Hen C and got the green screen. Shut off the psp and turned it back on then copied all of the files in the MS_ROOT of the downgrader to the memery stick root. then I put the firmware 1.50 EBOOT.PBP in the PSP/GAME/UPDATE file and changed the name to UPDATE.PBP and then ran the update from the game menu and it rebooted and said this message. This is even better than 1.5. I own 2 psp's a 1.5 one and a ta-82 that now runs 2.71 with hen C. Guess what the ta-82 with 2.71 is better now because I can use my browser, run all homebrew and run umd emulator without needing to reboot. Ah yes also run a browser without rebooting. In 1.5 you have to run devhooked 2.6 or higher firmware all the time. Even when playing a regular umd (recent games) you have to run devhook to be able to play it, not so anymore with this great work from dark alex. Yes 1.5 is not golden anymore, 2.71 kicks 1.5 ass now!
Hi ! I have an 15FW PSP & DevHook 0.46 with 2.71 emulated.So what I thought is that with this patch I could run homebrew from 2.71 emulation. Is this correct ? Becouse I'm newbie and because I did this patch and now my homebrew doesn't work - except the devhook & the devhook GUI louncher MOD . for all the other homebrew (like DOOM, WiFI sniffer & others). If I understand correctly now while reading this treads this is to have an PSP with 2.71 ONLY and be able to run devhook or what ? At the end: Please help me run my homebrew again. Should I go to 1.5 again and devhook and that's it ? Thanky you and be gentle :-)
downloaded the enabler then ran Hen C and got the green screen. Shut off the psp and turned it back on then copied all of the files in the MS_ROOT of the downgrader to the memery stick root. then I put the firmware 1.50 EBOOT.PBP in the PSP/GAME/UPDATE file and changed the name to UPDATE.PBP and then ran the update from the game menu and it rebooted and said this message. "The game could not be started." (80020148) Can someone help me? email me at Lexarox@hotmail.com PLEASE! I admit it, I am not very PSP savy and I can not figure out how to get this rev c to work at all. I was using the 2.01 GTA explote and could play all of my favorite emulators on that and it worked fine. Then I bought NBA 07 and it made me upgrade to 2.71 firmare. So I downloaded this hack and in the readme file it says "Copy all contents inside MS_ROOT to the root of your memory stick." So I copied all of those files over and tried to run it in the photo editor like it says. Every time it just freezes (I have tried like 20 times). I have no idea what I am doing wrong (do I have to downgrade to 1.5 first?) any help would help tremindously. My email is augiedog34@popmail.com or you can reply here if you want to help a newby out.

I dont understand how too flash the homebrewer too the psp I am trying too downgrade my 2.71 too 1.5 but I dont reely understand about hard resets or flashing the homebrewer too psp plz help thnx (-*-)

I just downgraded to 1.5 fw, then upgraded to 2.7 SE-A and it does everything I need it to do. Dark_Alex you are a the f-ing man!
