Our PSP "scene" has been lucky enough to have some real legendary characters. First, we had groups like PSP-Dev, later on, MPH. We can't forget Fanjita and Ditlew, and now, joining their ranks at a blistering pace is none other than Dark_Alex. It seems the guy jumps from one big bombshell to the next.Dark_Alex has just announced that he was busy making a 2.71 XMB homebrew launcher. Now you guys might be wondering how this might be different from Noobz' eLoader. Well, this is another bombshell guys! Dark_Alex has succeeded in being able to launch homebrew from the Game Menu in the PSP's XMB, or the Main menu as some might call it. Big news, huh? Well, it doesn't stop there! If Dark_Alex has his way, this will probably pave the way for kernel mode homebrew launching from the XMB itself!
But for now, the method is limited and can't load "standard" homebrew as we know it (static ELF files) and in order to make use of this XMB Loader, games will have to be ported or created in PRX form:
"Current homebrews are not supported. Since current homebrews are in static elf format, they won't run (they are rejected by the 2.71 kernel). Homebrews for 2.71 have to be in prx format. As mentioned before, homebrew has to be in prx format, at least atm. Furthermore, the main prx, the one in the pbp, has to be an user prx. However this user prx can load unsigned kernel modules from the memory stick, allowing kernel mode apps."
The great thing from the programmers' perspective is the fact that you can load unsigned kernel modules from the Memory Stick. This means that they will get all the freedom which 1.5 has offered until now. For developers who are interested in creating or porting existing programs to be "PRX compatible", you can find information and details in the readme, so we hope to see a flurry of compatible homebrew in the next few days!
You should be warned, this program does write to flash, so as with any flash memory-related programs, be very careful and use at your own risk even if the chances of bricking is extremely remote.
"This program enables homebrew to be run in 2.71 through the XMB. It makes a patch that remains
permanent until hardware reset. Sleep mode won't remove the patch.
Note: this program writes some small files in the flash, ONLY the first time is executed.
IT does NOT rewrite any existing file in the system, it writes new files, so the probabilities of
bricking are practically null."
But, there is a ray of hope. Dark_Alex has said that in future versions, he may patch the kernel to accept static ELFs. That would mean that 2.71 will be able to run all the homebrew which 1.5 is known for! Let's just hope that in the near future, 2.71 can dethrone 1.5 as the "golden firmware". Hey! It doesn't sound all that improbable now. With the great work of people like Dark_Alex and his friends, Fanjita and crew, we're well on our way to making firmware 2.71 the primary homebrew firmware!
Here's the proof-of-concept, directly from Dark_Alex's site. Again, you should be careful before running this since it writes to the flash. Please check out the readme before doing anything else, there's a lot of important information in there. Oh, and the champagne? That's for Dark_Alex and his friends ;)

So what exploit is used to make this program run? I've only read some stuff about a new tiff-exploit (i'm not really keeping myself up-to-date on what's going on in the psp-scene), but doesn't that only work when you try to watch the tiff file in the psp's image viewer? Or am I missing something here :/

This is perfect for TA-082 users, but only decent for 1.5 users. Until there is FULL compatibility for 1.5 homebrew on 2.71 (DevHook, SNES ME Edition, etc) I don't see this being a "golden firmware", and that will take some time.

everyone, stop saying things about sony, think abaut it, if nobody had never done homebrw we would be using firmware 1.0 and probably not more than 2.0, because there wasnt anything that made them get better to force ppl to upgrade
if sony gives up, we are the ones that loose, as everyone will be using isos, and nobody will develop new games, with each goal the scene makes, sony tryes to add new features wich we are the ones who benefit, so wile sony keep hard at work, the scene devs do also, so that we get the good stuff
so the harder sony tryes, we know if wont matter, it will be hacked
Booster was probably not mentioned because in the list because all of the devs listed above were directly responsible for enabling homebrew to run AT ALL on whatever version of FW. and MPH os created becasue indirectly thru downgrading form 2.0 to 1.5 you now have a homebrew enebled PSP
BOOSTER is a brilliant coder no doubt, but he never went so far as to enable hombrew in a NON_EMULATED FW that wasn't exploited yet.

I've also read that Dark_Alex also created a utility to dump the contents of the Undiluted Platinum NAND meaning that the Epsilon BIOS emulation maybe a reality sometime soon..............

This is brilliant news for TA-082 owners who've resisted the lure of 2.80+ up to now.
If this can still work from 1.50 with 2.71 DevHook emulation, then there's still not really any point in upgrading.
this is amazing and #38 is so right. if we had never had homebrew we wudnt have an internet browser or flash oranything. sony has 2 make each new FW better so ppl will upgrade and because of that we have 99% of the stuff that we didnt at 1st =]
I will try to see if I can modify my DEVHOOK 2.71 to run H/B, and if so, I can see which homebrew will work and which one won't

I just started looking into the whole PSP scene a week ago and new stuff has surfaced almost daily... Hope to see this kernel access leading to us being able to play iso's without risking getting a brick.

Nice work and I hope you can improve this to make it usable. The only thing that sounds risky is the writing to flash. For now I feel safer with eloader. Great progress anyhow!
You should bump it up. It may take some time but you will be playing reformated on your 2.71 PSP before Ookm even gets a chance to do the downgrade (no offense, if taken =P). Even then, with the upgrades availible in 2.71 (web browser, Flash Player) it would be much easier to have it included in your system rather then sending it to flash memory, then having to redo this everytime you restart your system. Hopefully that helps =P.

One homebrew developer that changed my life was the great Humma Kavula. He was a master, too bad he quit the scene. I thinked he paved the way for many of todays devs. Few can argue with this fact.
#Just go ahead and downgrade when it releases, there is nothing quite like the feeling you get when downgrading a TA-082.

think that 2.71 will become the new 1.50 is pure speculation ok the dark_alex's XMB is cool but this doesn't give any hope , at least until you can load homebrew in ELF & PRX, knowing the past work from dark_Alex he has a lot posibility to do it .... but saying that this will be for sure is stupid ... this gives hope to TA-82+ owners and to some dubasses that upgraded their psp's.

I recently purchased a PSP because of the excellent strides taken by the homebrew community to create the ultimate portable gaming device. Unfortunately I got stuck with the TA-082 MoBo, and i've been really pissed that all i've been stuck with was a TIFF 'sploit, which quite a few programs were incapable of running under.
However, if this program does in fact work for the TA-082 MoBo then I shall rejoyce for my hopes have finally come true! Sure, it doesn't have a lot of compatable programs now, but someone could create a conversion software or we can see other programmers writing their programs to be dual 1.5 and 2.71 compatable.
Don't dissapoint me now, PSP devs! And a special thanks to Dark_Alex for his amazing creation!

I don't know how your own little self absorbed world could be so small as to actually believe that all the firmware upgrades, and new firmware features where only developed because of homebrew. That is the most ridiculous thing I've read in a while.
1.50 aint that cool i was an ex owner of 2.80 1001 but now have 1.50 but if you have 32mb i dont reccomend 1.50 its frusterating downloading then format memory devhook and have limited space.. thats why im getting a gig but ppl with 2.71 it is very safe to downgrade with full easy 2.71 downgrader found at xtrusion.es very safe sorry TA.. but i suggest if you have 32mb dont try nothing that is a downgrader but 1.50 is the best if you have a gig+ i already know about snes very good best so far..

Edit the files

ON THE 12TH Line down add:
/kd/systemctrl.prx
TO BOTH FILES
Reboot DH, run the homebrew created for the patch. (ie the cube demo)
OH and btw you dont need to keep running this everytime you hard reset. this stays permanent as its wrote to the devhook config files.

Im getting myself a 2gb stick for obvious reasons and I am gonna update to 2.71
What are the chances in actually modifying the 2.71 firmware so that it will automagically load this module? Did sony put any further restrictions in this firmware to prevent this as compared to 1.5?

Finnaly what i've been waiting for this day to come about one year now finnaly it's here !!
I started with a 2.5 ta-82 using the Gta eLoader and after that i upgraded to 2.6 for RSS and still using the Gta and than the tiff eLOader came out for the 2.0-2.6 so I started using that and the tiff eLoader came out to 2.7 to 2.71 so i Upgraded to 2.7 and then THIS FRIKEN CAME OUT MOHOHAHA so I upgraded to 2.71 and flashed my psp and now i run all these aplications from the xmb menu of my psp pluss i got a neat eLoader in the foto folder from Noobz team.. FINNALY!! as Ditlew said once I belive that one day there will be a New Golden firmware.....
AND IT IS 2.71 WHOOOOOHOOO
i'm a noob at psp languauge so can someone please tell me the process of how you put the files onto the psp memory card and how you run it? becasuse i can't understand the read me

I've tried this like 25 times now. It just doesnt work. Memory Stick access for 10 seconds or so, freezes, nothings changed when I reboot.
Any Ideas? I am serious. I would really appreciate some help.
