Hmm, that was fast! Dark AleX has already released CFW 5.00 M33-2, despite his earlier guesstimate of being able to release it by Thursday. The new CFW includes some of the popcorn fixes he's talked about earlier, but as for a detailed account on its specific changelog, here we go:
Changes:
- Popcorn bug fixes
- Fixed bug that caused some games with certain icons not to work, and caused document.dat not to work.
- Fixed critical bug that caused continous corruption of psx games in RAM.
- Core bugfix: Fixed sctrlKernelSetInit* functions not working.
- M33 network update doesn't work in 5.00 M33, fixed.
- Added the posibility of loading version information from the file flash0:/vsh/etc/version.txt
- By default is disabled. If you enable it in recovery, you could for example dump 5.01 firmware, copy the version.txt from it to the flash, and bypass firmware check restrictions like those that may be in psn, etc.
- This will also fake official network update (not m33 one), and running the update eboot (again, not m33 ones).
- Plugins configuration file format changed. The new format is as follows:
- There is no more conf.bin file.
- Now each line in vsh.txt game.txt and pops.txt will have a 0 or a 1 at the end. 1 indicates that the plugin will be loaded, 0 (or anything else) that it won't be loaded.
- Entering in recovery in 5.00 M33-2 wil automatically convert the old format configuration to the new one (this may cause a delay first time you enter in plugins because of conversion).
- Added optins under advanced configuration that allow enable/disable of plugins in a certain configuration. By default they are enabled.

*Article originally posted... like, ten minutes ago.
*Updatye* What the--?! Well now, I didn't even have time to blink there. Dark AleX has now also released the latest version of the Popsloader app! As he states, this is the "popsloader for 5.00 M33-2 and up (until Sony screws it again)." Nice.
Notes from DAX:
- Requeiments:
- 5.00 M33-2, it won't work in 5.00 M33-1
- New:
- Works on 5.00.
- Added 3.80, 3.90 and 4.01.
Upgrade from older version of popsloader:
- Copy seplugins to memstick root folder replacing files.
- Dump 4.01 (choose decrypt all option in psardumper) and copy the file impose.prx in /seplugins/popsloader/ with that name (impose.prx, without numbers)
Install from scratch:
- Copy seplugins to memstick root folder replacing files.
- Dump the desired firmware to extract the files needed. (choose decrypt all option in psardumper)
Thse are the files needed for each firmware:
- 3.02-3.03: /kd/pops.prx, /kd/popsman.prx, /kd/meaudio.prx, /vsh/module/pafmini.prx
- 3.10-3.30: /kd/pops.prx, /kd/popsman.prx, /vsh/module/pafmini.prx
- 3.40-4.01: /kd/pops.prx, /kd/popsman.prx, /vsh/module/pafmini.prx, /vsh/module/libpspvmc.prx
Copy the files to /seplugins/popsloader with firmware version as suffix (e.g. popsman.prx -> popsman380.prx)
Additionally, no matter which pops you want to run, you have to get impose.prx from 4.01 and copy it to /seplugins/popsloader/ with the name impose.prx (no suffix).

...then updating to 5.00 m33-2, the playstation store no longer works. trying to use the easy installer again on top of m33-2 gives "update has already been installed. returning to xmb".
so, do not use the stupid easy installer to get access to the ps network... just wait for official DAX updates.

1. booting into recovery (boot while holding R)
2. changed xmb usb device to Flash 0
3. connected usb to computer, saw contents of flash 0
4. saw that version.txt was already sitting in flash0:/vsh/etc/
5. so, i enabled the "use version.txt" in boot recovery
6. rebooted, no dice. still no access to ps store
i think the assumption is that we know what "dump version.txt from 5.01" means.
and version.txt was already there. i enabled

1. copy the above text to flash0:/vsh/etc/version.txt
2. disable the M33 network update
3. enable the 'use version.txt' option
Et voila.

anyway, i disabled M33 network update and was then finally able to access the ps store again, thanks!
this is a lesson learned to only apply DAX updates and to be patient.

That's taking the version information from OFW 5.01 and applying it 5.00 m33. The version.txt that's already on you 5.00 m33 is just that--version info for 5.00 m33. PSN won't let you access the store if your system shows version 5.00.

- download the official 5.01 firmware
- copy the eboot.pbp (from the 5.01 offical firmware) to the root of the memory stick
- get the PSAR-dumper for 5.00 by Dark Alex
- run the PSAR-dumper and choose the option to decrypt everything
- connect the PSP to the PC and locate the 'F0' folder that was created by the PSAR-dumper on your MS
- go to folder 'F0\vsh\etc' and copy version.txt to your desktop
- disconnect from PC and shutdown PSP (keep holding the power button untill PSP is switched off)
- reboot PSP in recovery mode (hold R-trigger and power button for about 5 seconds)
- go to 'advanced' and select 'Toggle USB (flash0)'
- the 'flash0' folder will now be visible in your explorer: you will see three folders ('dic', 'font', 'vsh')
- still in explorer, go to the folder 'vsh\etc'
- you will see the version.txt file there, rename it to version.old.txt and move it to your desktop
- copy the version.txt from the dumped 5.01 (on your desktop) to the folder 'vsh\etc', overwriting the old version.txt
- select 'Toggle USB (flash0)' on your PSP to disconnect from PC
- select 'Back'
- select 'Configuration'
- disable the M33 network update
- select 'Back' to reboot PSP
DONE! and working

"Disable M33 Network Update", the little detail which didn't get mentioned.
I myself wasn't getting it to work, and now that I have disabled that plugin, it works. +D

What is interesting, is that if I have that off, and have versions.txt option off as well, I can still log in to the store after updating the versions.txt with the one from 5.01.
So the question is, what actually does the enable/disable versions.txt do?

Also my other question does 1.50 based homebrew still work under CFW 5.00 or do I need to find >3.00 versions of the homebrew apps I run. (ScummVM, CPS2 emulator).
Only reason I'm thinking of updating is that that Open BOR says it needs a fairly recent firmware to run.
Sorry for a kinda n00b question, I got quite deep into this when I modded my firmware but haven't kept updating and don't know what firmwares run on what now.

Yes 1.50 homebrew will work IF you install the 1.50 add-on.

You people are a bit slow sometimes... of course its already there... the CURRENT version.txt from 5.00... think about something before you say it... you REPLACE the 5.00 version.txt that is already there with the version.txt from 5.01. I suppose someone is going to say that my instructions aren't clear either... *sigh*
