Dark AleX rolls out CFW 5.00 M33-2 *Update* Popsloader 5.00 M33-2 also released |
Ó

Hmm, that was fast! Dark AleX has already released CFW 5.00 M33-2, despite his earlier guesstimate of being able to release it by Thursday. The new CFW includes some of the popcorn fixes he's talked about earlier, but as for a detailed account on its specific changelog, here we go:
Changes:
- Popcorn bug fixes
- Fixed bug that caused some games with certain icons not to work, and caused document.dat not to work.
- Fixed critical bug that caused continous corruption of psx games in RAM.
- Core bugfix: Fixed sctrlKernelSetInit* functions not working.
- M33 network update doesn't work in 5.00 M33, fixed.
- Added the posibility of loading version information from the file flash0:/vsh/etc/version.txt
- By default is disabled. If you enable it in recovery, you could for example dump 5.01 firmware, copy the version.txt from it to the flash, and bypass firmware check restrictions like those that may be in psn, etc.
- This will also fake official network update (not m33 one), and running the update eboot (again, not m33 ones).
- Plugins configuration file format changed. The new format is as follows:
- There is no more conf.bin file.
- Now each line in vsh.txt game.txt and pops.txt will have a 0 or a 1 at the end. 1 indicates that the plugin will be loaded, 0 (or anything else) that it won't be loaded.
- Entering in recovery in 5.00 M33-2 wil automatically convert the old format configuration to the new one (this may cause a delay first time you enter in plugins because of conversion).
- Added optins under advanced configuration that allow enable/disable of plugins in a certain configuration. By default they are enabled.

*Article originally posted... like, ten minutes ago.
*Updatye* What the--?! Well now, I didn't even have time to blink there. Dark AleX has now also released the latest version of the Popsloader app! As he states, this is the "popsloader for 5.00 M33-2 and up (until Sony screws it again)." Nice.
Notes from DAX:
- Requeiments:
- 5.00 M33-2, it won't work in 5.00 M33-1
- New:
- Works on 5.00.
- Added 3.80, 3.90 and 4.01.
Upgrade from older version of popsloader:
- Copy seplugins to memstick root folder replacing files.
- Dump 4.01 (choose decrypt all option in psardumper) and copy the file impose.prx in /seplugins/popsloader/ with that name (impose.prx, without numbers)
Install from scratch:
- Copy seplugins to memstick root folder replacing files.
- Dump the desired firmware to extract the files needed. (choose decrypt all option in psardumper)
Thse are the files needed for each firmware:
- 3.02-3.03: /kd/pops.prx, /kd/popsman.prx, /kd/meaudio.prx, /vsh/module/pafmini.prx
- 3.10-3.30: /kd/pops.prx, /kd/popsman.prx, /vsh/module/pafmini.prx
- 3.40-4.01: /kd/pops.prx, /kd/popsman.prx, /vsh/module/pafmini.prx, /vsh/module/libpspvmc.prx
Copy the files to /seplugins/popsloader with firmware version as suffix (e.g. popsman.prx -> popsman380.prx)
Additionally, no matter which pops you want to run, you have to get impose.prx from 4.01 and copy it to /seplugins/popsloader/ with the name impose.prx (no suffix).

FIRST
People should realize (in case they ignored the changelog) that network update won't work for this release. You need to manually download and install it.
DAX prolly released this a day early because he saw my Unofficial 5.01m33 post
after upgrading with the easy installer to get the ps store working...
http://pspupdates.qj.net/PSP-homebrew-5-01-for-5-00-M33-Easy-Installer/pg/49/aid/125245
...then updating to 5.00 m33-2, the playstation store no longer works. trying to use the easy installer again on top of m33-2 gives "update has already been installed. returning to xmb".
so, do not use the stupid easy installer to get access to the ps network... just wait for official DAX updates.
Yes, well your fw is still 5.00 no matter what easy installer does. DAX will need to release 5.01M33(small update like this one probably) for us to be able to access PS store
Awsome now the only thing i need to wait for before i update to 5.00m33 is for more ctf themes to come out and maybe a 4.01m33 - 5.00m33 ctf converter
After upgrading to m33-2 i can no longer access PSN. Hopefully DAX fixes this soon because i was thinking of buying a couple PS 1 games.
Have you flashed version.txt?
DAX specifically says in the changelog to dump the version.txt from 5.01 and put it in flash0:/vsh/etc/ then enable the feature in recovery to fool version checkers (aka psn network)
but those instructions didn't make much sense. dump the version.txt? what? where?
I have a 1.50 addon installed during 5.00 m33 and what happened is after 5.00 m33-2. Whenever I wanted to use the New PSAR Dumper (for dumping 5.01 and is for 5.00) and during the gameboot my PSP freezes and turns off!
The newest Psardumper runs on the 5.xx kernel, NOT the 1.50 kernel. Put it in your GAME folder and set the kernel to 5.xx in Recovery.
found flash0:/vsh/etc/ by:
1. booting into recovery (boot while holding R)
2. changed xmb usb device to Flash 0
3. connected usb to computer, saw contents of flash 0
4. saw that version.txt was already sitting in flash0:/vsh/etc/
5. so, i enabled the "use version.txt" in boot recovery
6. rebooted, no dice. still no access to ps store
i think the assumption is that we know what "dump version.txt from 5.01" means.
and version.txt was already there. i enabled
Dump the 5.01 update with psardumper I'd imagine.
...I will wait for an updated CXMB, among other things.
Boot into the recovery menu and then go to configuration. At the bottom of the list is the new option to "Use version.txt', enable it. Back out, reboot, try the PSN Store again.
and version.txt was already in flash0:/vsh/etc/ (didn't dump anything). restarted twice, still no dice with the ps store
for those that know how to extract 5.01 firmware, what is the contents of the version.txt file so that i can enable the "use version.txt" feature? this is what mine reads and apparently it doesn't fool the ps store...
release:5.01:
build:2753,0,3,1,0:builder@vsh-build6
system:47042@re lease_501,0x05000110:
vsh:p6284@relea se_501,v46801@release_501,20081020:
target:1:WorldWide
To actually use this:
1. copy the above text to flash0:/vsh/etc/version.txt
2. disable the M33 network update
3. enable the 'use version.txt' option
Et voila.
copy that INTO version.txt?? that's where i got it FROM!
anyway, i disabled M33 network update and was then finally able to access the ps store again, thanks!
this is a lesson learned to only apply DAX updates and to be patient.
You need to put FW 5.01 on your memory stick. Run psardumper and dump firmware 5.01. From there, take the version.txt that you just dumped, and use that to REPLACE the version.txt that you have on your system.
That's taking the version information from OFW 5.01 and applying it 5.00 m33. The version.txt that's already on you 5.00 m33 is just that--version info for 5.00 m33. PSN won't let you access the store if your system shows version 5.00.
here's what i did to get it working (i first updated to 5.01m33-2):
- download the official 5.01 firmware
- copy the eboot.pbp (from the 5.01 offical firmware) to the root of the memory stick
- get the PSAR-dumper for 5.00 by Dark Alex
- run the PSAR-dumper and choose the option to decrypt everything
- connect the PSP to the PC and locate the 'F0' folder that was created by the PSAR-dumper on your MS
- go to folder 'F0\vsh\etc' and copy version.txt to your desktop
- disconnect from PC and shutdown PSP (keep holding the power button untill PSP is switched off)
- reboot PSP in recovery mode (hold R-trigger and power button for about 5 seconds)
- go to 'advanced' and select 'Toggle USB (flash0)'
- the 'flash0' folder will now be visible in your explorer: you will see three folders ('dic', 'font', 'vsh')
- still in explorer, go to the folder 'vsh\etc'
- you will see the version.txt file there, rename it to version.old.txt and move it to your desktop
- copy the version.txt from the dumped 5.01 (on your desktop) to the folder 'vsh\etc', overwriting the old version.txt
- select 'Toggle USB (flash0)' on your PSP to disconnect from PC
- select 'Back'
- select 'Configuration'
- disable the M33 network update
- select 'Back' to reboot PSP
DONE! and working
Dude, good work. I did not have nearly enough patience to type all that up.
Disable M33 Network Update and Enable Use version.txt
the downloads are here:
- 5.01 eboot: http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/1579
- psar dumper for 5.00: dark-alex.org
my previous job was writing technical documentation...
oh, the psar-dumper is no longer available on the dax website, just look for it here at qj
now games that i purchase through the playstation store don't work: game could not be started 80010013. forget it.. this isn't meant to be
Yea I honestly don't see whats so difficult about replacing the version.txt files.....a lot of people seem to be having trouble with it but I think its because they don't think that it would actually be this easy (Ironic Ha!). Also make sure that you DISABLE m33 network update or else you wont connect to PSN Store. And no you don't have to officially update your psp or anything.... Just do exactly what eddib instructed and you should have no issues.
Hey heres the 5.01 Version.txt
http://www.psp-hacks.com/downloads/version.txt
Thanks +)
"Disable M33 Network Update", the little detail which didn't get mentioned.
I myself wasn't getting it to work, and now that I have disabled that plugin, it works. +D
I'm not really sure but their are some people saying that 5.00M33-2 makes the UMD drive not work.
Thse are the files needed for each firmware
^ these?
Once this was done, ps store was available again, however this was mentioned origianlly, and i think that's why people were having problems.
What is interesting, is that if I have that off, and have versions.txt option off as well, I can still log in to the store after updating the versions.txt with the one from 5.01.
So the question is, what actually does the enable/disable versions.txt do?
"wasn't mentioned"
I've got DA 3.30OE firmware currently on my PSP fat, am I able to put these new CFW 5.00 M33-2 firmwares on my PSP?
Also my other question does 1.50 based homebrew still work under CFW 5.00 or do I need to find >3.00 versions of the homebrew apps I run. (ScummVM, CPS2 emulator).
Only reason I'm thinking of updating is that that Open BOR says it needs a fairly recent firmware to run.
Sorry for a kinda n00b question, I got quite deep into this when I modded my firmware but haven't kept updating and don't know what firmwares run on what now.
anyway man dac should be my brother or cousin or something that guy is one smart tough son of a ***** damn he is smarttttttttttt tt
I forget which firmware you need before you can go straight to 5.00 M33. It's 3.71 M33-(some update) or 3.52 M33-(some update). Yes you can run 1.50 homebrew after you install the 1.50 Kernel Addon, only for Phat.
You have to go to 3.52 m33, then 3.52 m33-4, then you can install 5.00 m33-2.
Yes 1.50 homebrew will work IF you install the 1.50 add-on.
Thanks for the replies guys that answers everything I was wondering.
sorry you guys, I just happened to get on around the same time it was released here and i was extremely bored
I've always had a problem running popsloader is this one an improvement or the same old stuff. is it noob friendly. I'll give it a try anyway . whats the best firmware to load psone games. I got to the second disk on ff 7 and then couldn't switch disks on one. I was pissed.
Everyone knows that when you create the EBOOTs of multidisc games you are supposed to use the same GameID/SaveID so those EBOOTs will share the same virtual memory cards.
a ShaggyZE posted a message over at psp-hacks.com with a rar-file with all the files you need:
http://www.realz2reelz.com/SEPLUGINS.rar
thx dude
I thought it was very clear myself... get the 5.01 update and dump it using psardumper... take the version.txt file from that (which will be the same filepath in the dumped firmware as the place you'll be putting it in your flash0) place the 5.01 version.txt into your flash0 at the location DAX specified.
You people are a bit slow sometimes... of course its already there... the CURRENT version.txt from 5.00... think about something before you say it... you REPLACE the 5.00 version.txt that is already there with the version.txt from 5.01. I suppose someone is going to say that my instructions aren't clear either... *sigh*
watch out... here come the spell check police
that's what I did haha... no point in dumping 5.01 and moving ***** around when the text you need is right there ^
FOURTH!!!
but now i'm also SIXTH!
