Custom Firmware Unflasher Released!

Want to use Dark_Alex's recently released Custom Firmware but unsure of the consequences? Here's an application by Slasher that should help you out. Slashers Custom Firmware Unflasher does exactly what it says on the tin: 'unflashes' any modifications that the Custom Firmware proof of concept makes to your PSP, leaving you with fresh PSP firmware 1.5 again whenever you want to. This bypasses the long-winded way which involves changing your PSPs version number and then re-updating to firmware 1.5 again using the 1.5 firmware update EBOOT. Here's how to use it:

Simply put the two folders in ms0:/PSP/GAME/(here)
Plug in your AC Charger
Run the program from the XMB
The program will proceed to undo any of the changes
If all goes well, your PSP will exit the program and go back to your original 1.5!

Update: Slasher has provided us updated information about his program that will reflash your recovery.elf to include a 'remove POC firmware' option. Once the recovery.elf is copied into the root directory, you can then run the application to remove the Custom POC Firmware. [Also thanks go to ultimax for the updated banner]

There is 2 files with this release, Flash recovery and UndoPoc, and i have no idea which one i have to use. I am farly sure its UndoPoc but then that leaves the question of what on earth is Flash recovery for and why do i need a recovery.elf in my ROOT of my mem stick.

Please help me out here guys, thanks loads.

Dont use the recovery flash since you wont be needing this unless you spend time on forums and really learn what it is about, since you only want to undo your POC changes, just use the UndoPoc files and run it the normal way, i know that adding this file with the unflasher can be confusing, so i suggest QJ to split the files or at the very least add a full readme which states exactly what each folders contain and what they are used to.

whooopi that was quick, thanks for that Mogungo, i was just about to call it a night and i thought id check one last time and lo and behold, the answer lol, thanks again. I dont think ill use this file right now because like someone pointed out its better this way, however, when say an update comes out or something new which requires a clean 1.5, i will surely use it and go back to my 1.5 original. Thanks

If QJ asked, I would provided a more detailed readme. I'm also not sure why QJ merged the two .zips. Anyways...Here's a little explanation for the two files.

- 1.5_POC_Unflasher .zip -

This file is meant to completely remove the P.O.C Custom Firmware. You just simply run the program from the XMB(as you would any other application) and it removes the custom firmware and restores your firmware back to its original 1.5 state.

- Flash_the_recov ery.elf.zip -

This file is meant to just 'reflash' the recovery.elf(the recovery console) which the custom firmware originally installed. This new reflashed recovery.elf will add a 'remove P.O.C Custom Firmware' option to your recovery console. That way, if you ever want to uninstall it, you just go to your recovery console(by holding down R) and you'll have the option of uninstalling the firmware.

I hope that clears up some questions. If you need any more info, everything you need should be in the forum release thread. You can find the link on the front page post.

could we make a custom firmware that ressemble the 2.71 ? I mean, you take the files from 2.71 and add it and customize the firmware with no boot loading video and think you've done, but with the "visual" and "features" of the 2.71? not created features, but "taken from 2.71" features? this would be cool

The current custom firmware was only a proof-of-concept.

what will happen when we need to update?

we either safely restore the psp back to how it was, or reinstall the firmware to the flash which is much more degrading.

damn this "POC" and "unflasher" rule, goodbye autoloading UMDs corrupt icons and now my PSP boots directy into DevHook so its basically a 2.71 from cold boot :P, all i need now is a no menu DevHook mod that boots the game instantly no showing of a menu because u can change ISOz in XMB thats a good enough "psp mod" for me

Unfortunately after installing this custom firmware, usb no longer works for me. I was going to buy a flash reader so I could use the unflasher, but if I use a umd to upgrade to 2.0 and then downgrade back to 1.5 will the custom firmware be completely removed?

You may mess up your PSP if you do that. I would recommend using my program to unflash the custom firmware, and see if your USB works. If your USB still doesn't work, proceed to upgrade to 2.0 and back to 1.5.

This is kind of pointless? If you modify theconfig file in the systems foler, itll do just hat on the next boot. For example, if you guys wanted to change the starup so it wont auomatically start th UMD, and u forgot to change it, then just change it while its in the folder from false, to true, and itll work on the next reboot.

Is this program just for for taking all that stuff off so u can remodify? If so, then just change everything to false =p.

(or do i ahve the concept wrong?...if i do, i am terribly sorry)

If you want the origanal 1.5 firmware back, just delet the confi file in the systems folder =p. Itll be like new again...

But not to sa the Slasher and Dark Alex are great! Keep up the ood work..!)

Just have a parental checked UMD in your PSP (best exemple GTA: 18 +) . Then set your Parental Level to 1 in the settings options.

It should ask for a password before going on loading the UMD... press O and your in the XMB menu!

ps ... and setting it off with other firmwares via DevHook for better compatibility with iso loading.
