Sony Wants To Give You Free Minis |
Listed in: Games Tags: giveaway, jewel keepers, Mini, Sony, urbanix
Sony is giving away some Minis from their facebook page, all you have to do is push the Like button on the page linked below and you will be given a voucher for two free Minis (Jewel Keepers: Easter Island and Urbanix.)
Jewel Keepers: Easter Island is a simple matching game similar to Bejeweled, and is lacking in comparison to Bejeweled with one exception… price.

Urbanix from what I understand is a game where you play a tractor that shares the same name as the game. You must build towns one block at a time while avoiding helisharks and landrunners who will try and destroy you and housecrashers who will destroy the buildings you’ve built.

Unfortunately you will not be able to take advantage of this if you are in the US or Japan. But have no fear because you can still create a PSN account for another country like maybe, “Australia, Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, India, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Kuwait, Luxembourg, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Slovenia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, UAE, Ukraine, or United Kingdom”. Make sure to get them before July 31st or you’ll miss out.

Not allowing people to obtain these games in USA and Japan is a bad move because since the games are free to everybody else it encourages people to explore file sharing sites and try out obtaining games from them, possibly download other games and obtain some commercial games while there.
What would have been a better idea would have been creating a loyalty points system in which a small percentage (5%) of the cost of a game goes toward points that can later be spent in PSN on additional content for their game systems that is not available for purchase with cash. Content could range from menu widgets that can expand the use of the PSP outside of gaming or just sit there and do something fun when selected to additional maps/characters/missions in one of the games purchased.
I suppose that there is some dislike for not having a choice in which game to get for free but if SONY just let people choose then they could create several accounts and use each one to download another game, thereby abusing the gesture. I still think that a bejeweled clone was a poor choice while the other game seems interesting.
