Disaster Report 4's cancelation following the big earthquake that hit Japan earlier this month didn't exactly come as a surprise given the game's context. Series creator Irem, however, has reportedly gone one step further than that.
Gaming news site Andriasang reports that according to Japanese retailer Famicom Plaza, Irem has halted production of earlier games in the disaster-themed Disaster Report series -- or Zettai Zetsumei Toshi as it's known in Japan. This includes the first game, which was released on PlayStation 2 back in 2002, as well as the two sequels released for the PlayStation Portable.
Interest in the older entries in the series reportedly shot up after Disaster Report 4 was canceled. Andriasang notes that new, non-budget copies of the first three games already command a pretty steep price on Amazon Marketplace, with the first game reaching JP¥ 12,800 or about US$ 155. New copies on Amazon.com are currently priced at almost US$ 73. There are way cheaper copies being sold on eBay but there is one that has eclipsed the US$ 80 mark.
