This has got some people wondering.
- One popular question: "Is this poll a sign that Sony wants to know our versions?" One popular answer to that question: "Yes! Sony wants to know how many homebrew users there are so they can add better homebrew support to boost falling sales." That's a creative answer, and it might be true, but we're not entirely sure if that's likely.
- Another opinion: Sony doesn't want to know. The poll was probably started by some moderator or somebody else.
Wait! Before you faint over those results, remember, they are based on those who answered that poll at the official site. It's not like it's a poll of QJ readers. After all, things are different over here at QJ. A lot of you are homebrew fans. Some of you have DevHook. So we're wondering...

Atually 2.71 emulated auto boot custom firmware. :D f sony made it more open I think it would definitely bring them many more sales in the long run. Its an awesome gadget, but as is, it takes a little more work to utilize than the commonfolk out there have time for / can handle. They all miss out on all the sweet homebrew we find here on QJ and don't get a "true" psp experience. Some of my favorite stuff is WWTBAM, PSPRadio, and the EMUS

I don't really care about hombrew stuff so I update. And no matter what I'm going to have to update for all the latest games that are going to require the next frimware.
I Think That Homebrew Users aka. firmware 1.5 users, don't go to the sony psp site to get extra's ( game add ons), They would go to QJ Net and other psp homebrew sites. If we would start a poll here, you would get more people that use 1.5

You cant say that the average PSP user is an idiot because he/she has v2.71+ fm... Most users dont even know about the stuff you can do with the psp. Let alone, that most users who would use the psp and update- would be checking the official psp forums (we're not talking about the homebrew, but as a whole- imagine the amount of Pro-evo / winning eleven maniacs just getting one for the game!) Note- no I aint voting on that site, screw it, my version is 1.5 and its gonna stay that way.
my PSP was upgraded from 1.0 to 1.5 where it has been ever since... it thinks its a 2.0 and I can also boot into 2.71 to play an original UMD tekken, and yes I imported my PSP way back in February, and yes I imported my Tekken! as sony have stopped me importing from Play-asia, I will go out of my way not to upgrade... and if Sony annoy me enough it may have to come to running ISOs, SO SONY IF YOUR READING UN-BLOCK ORIGINAL IMPORT GAMES!!!

I have trouble believing that many PSP owners are using 2.8 considering there are few, if any, games that require that version specifically to work. The only real benefit are video file enhancements. Also, most gamers that don't have homebrew/downgrading/flashing knowledge are much less likely to update their firmware from what they got at factory unless it's to run a game. And why on earth would they upgrade to 2.8 now?
Most likely some retards have been choosing 2.80 to try to encourage people to update when they infact have 1.50.

1.50 is still the second biggest vote, so it means that you're [i]more likely[/i] to have a Homebrew PSP than a 2.7er or a 1.51er.
i got 1 1.5 psp and one 2.71 :P i like 1.5 better then 2.71 though.. 2.71 made my psp screen all dark and *****e.. but the sound drivers are better in 2.71
I have Version 1.5 because you have the freedom to do anything on it and the amount of cool homebrew is great.

Moderate amount of homebrew and compatable with alot of new games. I was thinking about downgrading back to 1.5 and use Devhook but I did not want to take the risk and am not sure if Devhook would meet my expectations, hell the PSP it self does not completely meet my needs. I use the web browser sometimes if I am near a hot spot with no computer available for me to use. Anyone care to fill me in on Devhook. I was wondering if it is easy to use. Is it glitchy and does it cause any issues that are a pain in the butt or even does it allow you to use all the firmware version features? I have looked into it but could not get a clear answer.

i have a 1.50 but im gona update to 1.52 because it just makes more sense. 1.52 is higher than 1.50, but lower than 2.0. i also heard that 1.52's homebrew was more effective so for this poll, i choose 1.52.

I have an original japanese 1.50 PSP. I have it with custom firmware an emulate 2.71. I will not ever upate. (PS> Guess which key on this keyboar is broken cos i cant press it)

2.0, right now. When I first got my PSP (UK launch, yo), it had 1.52 which as we all know had no homebrew capabilities. Hence as soon as TIFF loading was found on 2.0 I upgraded to that firmware, which I've stayed at since. As soon as a game comes out that needs a higher firmware than this that I own, I'll be using the downgrader and kicking back to a 1.5 with DevHook. =)
I just took the plunge from 2.6 to 1.5 yesterday, and it was totally worth it. Long live 1.5, long live Devhook!

well, of course many people answered 2.8 because IT'S THE FRIGGIN' OFFICIAL SONY FORUMS!!! And even still, 14% is still a large chunk of psp owners, and hopefully sony will finally understand that. After all, why else are they doing this poll? If qj.net had a similar poll, i'd bet more people would vote 1.5 than the sony forum retards who voted 2.8 yeah, i understand why so many people update. I've seen those forums. They're not even allowed to talk about emulators, since sony's trying to hide the benefits of 1.5. Well my firmware version is: 1.50 it was a 2.01 however. But after the great downgrading program that was made i am a happy 1.50 user as many now are.
This place needs a firmware poll because right now if less than 87 people replied to this post, then less than 87 people have firmware 1.0-1.50. Also, not every body who purchases a PSP takes the time to visit PSP websites and have no knowledge about homebrew. As much as you'd wish everybody was using homebrew, it's not going to happen.
that people who use homebrew with version 1.00-1.50 don't go to the official sony playstation Forums and post anything. I stick to forums that will help me with homebrew and emulation. And the Official Sony Forums Mods would probably delete every post about Homebrew and Emulation. I'm sporting 1.50 myself, so add me to the growing list of 1.5ers.

I have to say that I only bought a psp after I found out about the homebrew scene :) , It's a major buying point to say that it can emulate pretty much every console before ps1.
14 you are an idiot. If you don't care about hombrew then why are you here. If you had a 1.5 psp you could play the latest games with devhook. 36 the greater the risk the greater the reward. I took the risk of downgrading long ago. My psp defeinetly meets my expectations now. Devhook also emulates 2.71 with 99% accuracy and it isn't hard to use. So it should meet your expectations. Also the poll is bias because most of the people who voted don't even know about homebrew.

Our talented programmers just keep on pouring in many homebrews without feeling tired, that make my 1.5 more than I expected. 36 - u need some serious study before you plan to downgrade back to 1.5. Wat I can say is those who risk their psp and successfully downgraded and now wat they want with their 1.5...I swear they would never want to upgrade again ! I'm staying with booster man. I know devhook will emulate 2.8 soon. So dun upgrade !

What I find even more hilarious than so many idiots actually screwing themselves over and upgrading, are the idiots posting here, trying to say that homebrew is useless? Useless, when the PSP has not come out with a worthwhile game in a long time? Usless when PSP is better with homebrew and emulation and the one or two good PSP games that came out near the beginning? So, stop pretending to defend upgrading. Any idiot n00b willing to fall for that bullcrap probably deserves to ruin their PSP by upgrading it to play awful "new" games, and having it stuck with that crap. The only reason to have a PSP these days is to play classic games wherever you go. That's the only use PSP has, becuase the newer games are all crappy. PSP has not come out with a good game in a long long time. You upgrade, and you turn your PSP into a system that can only play sucky games. Upgrading RUINS your PSP and sticks it into a state in which you have NO control over your PSP. It beats all of the fun and the reason for ever buying one. It's as simple as that. There is NO good excuse for turning your PSP into a useless peice of junk. Upgrading makes PSP useless. The end. If you disagree with me, you are WRONG. I am right, and there is nothing that can change that.
Well I got my psp for $275 with a game and the case, strap, 1 year warenty and 12 free movie/game retal from game crazy. It was about 5 months ago when i got it. It had 2.50fw on it when i got it. I didnt have any clue about homebrewd untill my freind at work told me about this site so i came here. But before that i was checking out all the stuff on my psp and playing GTA. I messed up and upgraded to 2.60fw without noing that i would not be able to get homebrewd on my psp. Then eloader came and i got everything i could for the eloader to work on my psp. Nes, sNes, and Dgen were the ones i got first. I played the crap out of those and updated them when i could. Then the downgrader 2.50/2.60 came out so of corse i hopd on that and got now 1.50fw with DevHook 0.46 and now im set for life. You guys here are the best at everything you do and this site is my top site i visit everyday for all my updates on everything. Keep up the good work and keep persuing sony on implimenting homebrewd on there offical updates. That would be the all time best thing that sony could do for the world. Then there sells would come up and everyone would love them. Thanks for your time i will be watching the site for more updates on everything. xKJTx

the homebrew community is only a small one and most psp owners wouldn't even of herd of the snes much less care to get the emulator.
iv got a 1.50 now but i had to wait almost a full year befor i could downgrade from 2.60. i bought a psp the first day it came out in uk and upgraded! then i stumbled on a site called qj.net a couple of weeks later and thought wow, i did have to use the eloader though to get things working with gta but it was still cool, then from then on i was waiting a long time for a 2.60 downgrader, and when one morning i checked qj.net and to my utter joy it read 2.50-2.60 downgrader out (beta) though so i waited a few days to keep an eye on the comments posted and when it said 90% sucses rate i downgraded and then i did my mates psp to coz hes not realy in to installing homebrew and messing about with his machine as much as i do

I don't think you have to like hombrewing just because you go to QJ.net. I usally come here to read some of the gaming news. And like I said, I'm going to have to update for all the latest things that are coming up for the PSP like the PS1 Emulator, games, and other stuff the Sony is going to put on the PSP. I bought the PSP so I can play games and that is the purpose I have one. And for the guys who say PSP has no good games, then you don't know games. I have enjoyed my PSP since launch and I still do.

im at 1.5 custom firmware with 2.71 devhook right now i bought imy psp on july 6th 2005 when it started as a 1.5, updated to 2.0 for GTA, Tiff exploit came out and i went back to 1.5 with the downgrader, then up to 2.0 up to 2.6 for untold legends 2 down to 1.5 up to 2.0 down to 1.5 down to 1.0 up to 1.5 then installed the custom firmware stuff (harley's custom firmware with slahers MP3 and that otherguys auto USB thing, and i used xflash to get rid of the game boot movie and change what the text says, background pic, no wavey lines, stuff like that so 1.5-2.0-1.5-2.0-2.6-1.5-2.0-1.5-1.0-1.5-1.5 custom fw is what my psp has been through over the year that ive had it the only reason i decided to buy psp was because of homebrew

I think sony wants to know this so they can see how many homebrew users there really are and if its so popular they should perhaps open it for all firmwares or if they are bad boys and they see its popular enough to putt even better security on the new firmwares who don't allow homebrew

to # 36 devhook lets u use all the features of whatevr fw ur emulating, so if ur emu 2.71, u get flash games and stuff and rss an all the other stuff, it'll be like u upgraded to 2.71, but all u hav to do to get bak home is not to clik ur heels together and say theres no place like home but jus press home an startif u hav the mod for that, other wise jus totally reboot ur psp, u know hold the power switch for like 2 secs, oh an if u put it in sleep, it will stay in 2.71, not forever jus until u turn off us psp completely.... hope that helped, ps im not really craig nicholls from the vines if any one is thinking that, i jus had to sayy that jus in case...

It's useless to have 1.51-2.8 , That is, if you want to enjoy your psp. Without isos, games take like 3 minutes to load each level, the drive makes horrible screeching noises, you can't clock over 222mhz, so the games run like crap, and the battery life goes from constantly reading the umd drive. Without homebrew, you can't play full resolution videos, stream videos and games, and emulate every console before ps1 , oh, and play isos. So everyone saying that 1.5 sucks has brain damage and/or are jealous. #173, go get spelling and punctuation lessons, and stop being an ass.

i was i 2.OO photo loader and gtalcs cdevice user since october 2OO5. then i downgraded to 1.5O last july now i can load backup iso/cso/dax psp games from memory stick and play wifi emulators like dgen. i downgraded a friends from 2.6O and he goes on torrent sites and gets the best psp games (for free)(at one point he owned the top ten) if ya put the cso on two psps then ya can play wifi and online with most games that support it aswell. why the hell upgrade when ya can get free psp games so easily.
It's funny watching people that have useless PSP try to justify it with fauly logic. I have complete faith in the hacking community to get future games working on 1.5 through devhook, or other means. Just because you guys have firmwares that can't be downgraded, doesn't mean you have to lie, make things up, and, use anger tactics, to try to justify having your useless firmware version. Sony isn't tracking down the creater of devhook. The legal issues involve certain files inside one of the packages. DevHook itself is fine.

Hi everyone, I just found this today and am terribly sorry for doing my last two updates. I bougth my PSP at 2.1 and when I started readyng PSP forums I heard it was useless for homebrew... so I began upgrading... at least there were some improvements comming from Sony (which I must say are really good... but I would absolutelly trade them for homebrew). I just read there was actually a 2.6 -> 1.5 downgrader... damn! I still had 2.6 a couple of months ago! I promise you this... I'LL NEVER UPGRADE AGAIN and be the first one to test a 2.8 downgrader!

Many psp sites reviewed 2.7 firmware and said it was crap, the GTA exploit doesn't work and there's no reason to upgrade to it. Before I begin: Sony is a flake. They have no sense of taste. And when they make a new update thier head inflates. Now back to the topic A COMPLETELY modded 1.5 (everything from coldboots to gameboots) And a pitiful 2.8 that I have yet to use. If Sony would stop screwing around with security patches and give it USEFUL FUNCTIONALITY I might use my secondary PSP. It can't be THAT hard to give the firmware something new. Look at all the devs coding from scratch that manage to get more done than Sony with thier OWN OFFICIAL DEVKITS. How about they allow you to use your own true type fonts from flash 1 (like the way they did when they allowed you to use a picture as a background. It stores it in flash 1) Maybe add a GOOD video format. God the PSP can't even play NORMAL mp4's on it's own even THEY have to be converted. Oh and Sony, if you're reading this, when you DO decide to come out with a good feature...... DON'T DO A HALF BAKED JOB!!!!
I was reading through the official forums, specifically the thread introducing firmware 2.8, and some users were asking if a 'soccer demo' was included in the 2.8 upgrade lol Only someone on the official forum would think a game demo would be bundled inside a firmware update. Who wouldn't look into modding their game system, considering it isn't exactly a new concept (see 'modded PSX' lol).
I use 1.5 emulating 2.71 with devhook. Lets hope Devhook releases the next one even without the firmware dump.

i have v2.80 and its a POS, i had 1.50, but my sister got ahold of my psp and upgraded it. So im pi$$ed the F*ck off. /sigh

I have hte latest 2.80 version, but with two bugs compared with the immediatel prior version. 1. The sound often gets corrupted so it it is either "buzzy" or non-existent. The problem is temporarily fixed by cold-booting the PSP; 2. Certain RSS/Podcast URL forms which used to work no longer do. URLs that ended with .xml still work, indirect URLs (such as all of NPRs) have stopped working on the PSP. http://www.npr.org/rss/podcast.php?id=510070 is an example of an URL which the PSP used to pick up and play the podcast, but now with system 2.80, won't.

1.50 is better if i want a game i can just get it and save it to my memory stick and i dont have to update because i can just put it on the computer delete the update and shove it back on.. simple new games on 1.50

im getting Devhook too like my brother hes gonna downgrade my psp for me on monday so i can get all the kick ass ***** thats only for 1.5 firmware
