UPDATED PSP Firmware 3.40 now out and about at PlayStation Japan

After being spotted at Sony PSP's South Korean website, the newest PSP firmware, FW 3.40, has now made its way to the Japanese PlayStation site. So far, the U.S. PlayStation site hasn't updated its System Software Update section, but trust us when we say that we will keep you posted.

As to what's new this time around, we are still not sure. But nonetheless, we'll still share with you the info generated through an online translation engine. Here's they are:

PLAYSTATION Network title performance in order to play was strengthened.
PlayStation standard software PSP and PS3 being both, you can use the saving dataIt became the way.
As for download of the PlayStation standard software which corresponds to PS3, from April 26th at PLAYSTATIONÂ®Store it is the schedule which is started.
[License management] was deleted.
In [you can verify the information which is indicated license management], with the following operation.

Choosing the idea contest of the game where we would like to make information indicate pushing the △ button, [Information] is chosen from the option menu.

Pretty much the same as what we have reported earlier. Surely in a few hours, the U.S. PlayStation site would be updated - and that means we'll have a better understanding of what's new with firmware 3.40. Feel free to check out the PlayStation Japan site by clicking on our link below.

Update: Tipster whoelse led us to the PlayStation US Boards to show us what the boards' admin assistant Ascalon's post had about the new firmware for the PSPs. There wasn't anything yet on a U.S. release of the FW, but we did manage to get something about some changes in the 3.40 FW update:

Support for PLAYSTATIONÂ®Network titles has been expanded.
The method of managing certificates under [Game] has been changed.

These are all we have of the new firmware, but we'll let you know once we get more news. So stick around.

it has the ps3-psp tie up made stronger for playstation one titles. With 3.40 you can transfer the save data from PSP tp PS3 and vice versa and enjoy the continuation cycle when you are out of home too on the PSP. vice versa you can continue the game on PS3 when back home by copying the save data from Memory stick to PS3 harddrive.

It sounds like Certificate Utility was removed and its features made available by pressing Triangle on the PS1 game and selecting something in the menu.

i hope D_A doesnt decide to make 3.40oe yet cause there is no need for it and just now coders are releasing stuff compatable with 3.30oe. knowing sony they put higher security on this to get rid of icons, fonts, waves or something along those lines. if that would be the case who will update to it? i know many people that are still on 3.03oe just for useless icons. which the bugs are starting to get worked out for 3.30oe icons. what im saying is if D_A puts out 3.40oe it will probly be more limited then when 3.30oe first came out. if D_A wants to release it then please take your time on it. sony got something up thier sleeve.

While the kiddies were clamoring about a new OE firmware (and I have to agree with the 'what more could you want' statement) and fake Dark_Alexness I read the story. Just want to emphasis a couple things (although the same thing).

Could mean a lot of things, but here's hoping it means the Official Sony Stamp(Licensing ) that was required for games to run has been loosened/removed. Possibly allowing for legitimate homebrew or maybe a more accessible development structure that would allow smaller developers to "License" their software in house instead of sending it to Sony.

I like how u can change the speed in the new settings menu and how u can change between several themes for your psp.

Just download 3.4 , upgrade and then go into language and change it to english.

Sony's update features have all been uber crappy and useless homebrew can let you do loads of better ***** than what Sony offers. I really want a downgrader for 3.30, because with all these updates that i trusted to make my psp so much better have all disappointed me. I read about the features of it and now sony is being even more strict with the goddamn psp! You can't play videos of certain sizes and file types that you may have been able to play before anymore!!!!!~!! ~!~!~!!!!! Custom videos are one of the best things for the psp!!! Sony has done enough of this lame strict-as-hell *****!!! No more!!!! Homebrew!!!! I swear I will stop updating to Sony's firmware from now!!!
