Update FW3.00 and 3.01: what's the diff?

Has everyone settled down from the whole buzz of Noobz's 3.00/3.01 Dumper and Decrypter? Yes, we do believe in magic, in fact. But for those who'd want to get into the nitty-gritty of the technical mumbo-jumbo, maybe you want to know some inside information about the magic. Besides, when it really comes down to it, what really are the core differences of FW 3.00 and 3.01?

The other day, 0okm was able to find out some 3.00 file changes. And now with FW 3.01 out, being the fine programmer that he is, he was able to narrow down three modules that are different:

kdlflash_fatfmt.prx
kdumdman.prx
vshmodulelicense_plugin.prx

According to him, the second module in the list is possibly the one which solves some bugs with Jeanne d'Arc. The third module, in his words, is to "strengthen security". For the module to be titled "license plugin", you can assume right away that it's something concerning security or whatnot. He also noted that all the other modules weren't changed or were simply renamed from a version .00 to .01.

From what we could see in 0okm's list, nothing was changed in a majorly drop-your-pants-off way that you'd want to call your mom for. It is, after all, just a hundredth of a notch, from 3.00 to 3.01.

Update: Hello, some random QJ blogger here putting an update on Gino D.'s article. We've received reports that the descriptions of the differences between 3.00 and 3.01 are not accurate.

The blog entry above shared with you what 0okm thought were the possible reasons for the differences in some of the modules - and that's interesting reading. Even though what 0okm says isn't absolute terminal dogma, it still has the backing of experience. But wouldn't it be nice to know how accurate they are?

Are 0okm's analyses of the new firmware correct or not? We will update this blog as soon as we can verify the reports one way or another. Meanwhile, let us extend our gratitude to busy developers like 0okm and Dark_Alex and Noobz and all of the others who share with the rest of the world their findings, opinions, and insight.

3.0 is better, more likelihood of a firmware crack pretty soon on that firmware, especially because of all the new features. I have always eyeballed hacking into the psp 3.0 and other internet browser enabled firmwares with some sort of javascript, flash game or something similar to the notorious .wmf exploit for windows. Using vulnerabilities in the internet browsers insecurities would be smart. I have extreme confidence that 3.0 will be hacked.

i know solving difference's can determine possible changes that can alter our firmware but for now lets just occupy our itme with 3.0 then 3.1 obviously sony wants our attention with 3.01 but lets not waste time now thanks ookm for being on top of things kep it up dude but unless theres a signifigant difference in 3.01 im not interested

Actually, they messed up on 1.0-2.80, because they all have been hacked.

Every firmware made can be hacked, you just need to know where to look!

1.5 is the best because you can just sit there playing on your homebrew or ISOs and you just wait until someone hacks the new firmwares then you just devhook them

Hey mr. Twitch, if you're so sick of being on 2.81 why don't you upgrade to 3.01!!? Since you probably don't have a PS3 you can stare at that remote play icon as long as you want. But seriously, i think that 3.0 or 3.01 is going to have a better chance of being exploited than 2.81 becaus of all the new features and the fact that it's already decrypted

just got my psp last night...got iso emulators and almost had it working until it told me to upgrade to 2.81 for VCS but it didnt work so me, being the *****ing PSP noob that i am i upgraded to 3.01...i hate my self...theres so many emulators out there and so many cracks...im so *****'d

hey maybe the licesne was for the ps1 emulator so the ps3 wood scan the psp and its number so nobody wood copy it for more users mine broke i use my sisters at 2.8 for homebrwe so until x mas i cant rly try much on psp cept use my 2 gig to put hombrew fur my sis or demos i got all the demos

Never again shall i upgrade before there is a hack or downgrader! I used to wait patiently for a 2.71 downgrader. I won't update my PSP to 3.0 or 3.01 until there's a hack! Why not hack one of the PSX game files?
