In the sunny shores of the magical land of Teh Int3rw3bz, a tsunami of pics washed up across various websites about a UMD containing a 3.0 firmware update. It's everywhere. Surely, you've heard about this already, right? Everyone and their grandma's dog probably has. If you haven't, then there's no reason now.
The story goes that a member of YourPSP was sent a copy of this beta UMD firmware update. Sony wanted them to try it out. Supposedly the update supports PSone emulation, .mov, .gif, .wmv, and .flv files. Boy was that a mouthful. Excited? Err, don't get your hopes up. Ever since February, this "3.0 update" was already rumored about, and quite frankly, debunked with a vengeance. (Somebody named MadSoul even put his foot forward and claimed that he was the one who started this "joke".)
Why ditch this as a fake, you ask? For one thing, most of Sony's firmware updates have happened via download. Not through UMDs. Also, it's not in the nature of Sony to go around getting people to beta test their update. "Mass marketing" a beta test of a firmware update could likewise harvest a "mass bricking" of PSPs (thus, bad PR for Sony).
What with the recent FW2.81 PSP from the Sony factory, all these rumors are already starting to get blown out of proportion. Let's not get ahead of ourselves here, ok? We're just hoping beyond hope that Sony would finally say something about all this and release whatever they have up their sleeve.
Hurry up, Sony! Before more people send in the clowns...

Am I first poster?
Ive been a part of the Sony GAP for almost a year now with my psp, and ive recieved certain demo's or betas to beta test from sony, but ive never recieved any of it in the PSP cases that popular psp games come in, they only come in "sleeves" in the shape of the psp cases, why would they waste money making a case for a beta game, or even worse a beta firmware..
this is highly imposibly or just plain stupid of sony.
ya whats the point of bringing this up rather pointless madsoul did this along time ago and it was funny
the only thing that does make sense in this is having the firmware beta on a umd as a software you run inside your exsisting as to protect the user from bricking.

3.00 is coming out roughly same time as PS3 I am led to beleive. All this talk about PS3s and PSP firmwares is dragging too long now. It's been almost a year surely. PSP scene is a bit dead (I'm grateful people are working on it and I'm sure they still are) but no new releases that have that wow factor.
Plus the fact that I won't see a PS3 will at least early march in the middle of my revision. Life's looking real sunny.

Felder nice to see another GAP member anyways, we all know this is fake and well i read recently that 2 days from now (that's thursday) sony will be dishing out it's firmware 3.0 as said on playstation forums, is that true? well sony is hosting it's gamer's day in san francisco and i'm not sure what they're going to annouce but propably some news on the ps3 online, playable games, and ps3-psp connectivity. About the 3.0...well i doubt it though some people says the person who announced doesn't spam bs like that...i guess it sound way to good to be true. anyways we'll know on october the 19th.
where is the mistake? the picture is way small and i remember someone talking about the reading mistake some time ago but the picture(again) is way small i can't see the mistake...what's the word? or where can i get a full size picture?

when this picture was first out i proved it to be fake within 3 minutes of looking at it. Why are you bringing this back up. Get some better news.
Tell the guy who apparently has this to use some homebrew or something, and get the EBOOT.PBP file on the 'net. That should prove his truthfulness.
I am also part of GAP, and games always come in sleeves..... And, the whole idea of a beta firmware is messed up...

i already answered this question in a broke down explanation on the playstation underground when this pic first arrived. if you look closely, its a photoshopped UMD, whoever made it didnt even bother patching his lines and didnt even make a good circle for the UMD, the case is a printout, and half the stuff on the paper is either spelled wrong, spelled OUT, or uncapitalized. whoever did it actually spelled out "bullet" instead of putting a bullet point... they spelled PlayStation 1 in all lowercase letters (sony would never spell their own product wrongly) so believe what you want, but i'm just stating the facts

There are COUNTLESS grammar errors in that jumble of texts. The miss spelled words are: Avaible and Listining.
Also, the structure of the texts are obviously of an under educated person in the business writing department. If a company asks you for a favor, the one word that WILL apear is "Please".(ala asking for feedbacks. That "Give" word is with a capital G... implying a start word of a sentence.) Also, business writing NEVER uses the words such as "get's to" to imply "an opportunity to". ;)

i dont mean to be rude about it, but this has been around since 2.0! its totally fake, there are typos all over in that thing, there are obvious flaws in the image on the umd and the case and. its fake and doesnt reflect what sony is going to do

I'm going to have to say this is a fake because of the dodgy image.
If they wanted to make it look real they might actually print out the letter, case cover and cd label then take the photo instead of editing it and leaving blurs around the text they changed.

Yeh, madsoul made this, me and madsoul decided to make loads of fake images of psp games such as my entry of "resident evil 4 on psp".
he came up with the firmware update fake, but that was AGES!! ago, why bring this up when its like 8 months old
if this was real then the umd would have been ripped and posted all over the net by now, and we would all be using it, that would be great though.
I coud make this (but ide have to be pretty sad)
1. right out the the letter thing
2. split the umb you get with the psp open (the demo)
3. put a piece of paper in a box witch says 3.0

This pic was made many months ago, for the purpose of demonstrating graphics skills. The only people who ever claimed it was an actual upgrade were the people who saw the pic posted and posted it at other sites. If you will read the forums, you will see what really happened.
As for the blogger, you might wanna read into this a bit more...
...how long until firmware version 3.00 will be released. Not that I'll upgrade, that's for sure.
Let's hopen some can crack this version so it would be possible to emulate via Device Hook on 1.50 and homebrew enabled 2.71 systems.
