Sony has NOT (and I repeat, NOT NOT NOT!) released an update on their servers yet. I am automatically emailed within 5 minutes after Sony releases an update (both japan and US) (gotta love cron jobs, ey?). I have not gotten an email, and the files that the PSP checks for an update both say the latest firmware was released on 11-29-2005, which would be firmware 2.6. If it is real, I cannot say. However I very highly doubt Sony would release a new firmware without wanting people to update via Network Update.

Yes this does indeed look like a mockup, due to the shadow on the 2, and it almost certainly is, but come on everyone, its clear how this could be real if such a firmware actually existed. If the update was available on a UMD then the screenshot is exactly what you'd see if you were upgrading to this 2.61 from 1.5, hence they would be able to use a homebrew screen dumper, hence no RSS, and no browser. even a dead monkey could see that. Also it would make sense if v3.0 isnt quite ready yet since it would fix the GTA exploit in 2.6

Had to put some sort of picture at the top... I can believe it. People had better rush out and see if any of the value packs are left, before they're all gone... I got a 1.52 FW in mid-January from our Target, and not many more PSPs have come and gone from it. We'll see how valid this is. But it's like Windows XP; my family got a Sony VAIO maybe a month before XP was out in stores. Doesn't really have to do with much, but updated stuff can come to those who buy the hardware first.

I sadly had to update today, I updated to 2.60 so I could finnally play my Daxter and Shin Budokai UMD's, they came out last week. There have been no new games requiring an update since the n either. Also, 2.61 is fake in my opinion :/ -PSPunk

This is faked using the psp photo for 1.5 homebrew. It allows you to take pictures on your psp, in game or not. It has no internet because it is a 1.5 psp. As for the UMD update, it has been said many times and I hope you read this, that no game requires 2.6, let alone 2.61 which hasn't been released yet according to Sony.

OMG! The picture was never ment to prove it was real! They said in description that they only have a comment thats 2 lines long to say anything about this, and at that, one from an "Anonymous Coward" commenter. ...::::::===+++_ITS JUST A ROUMOR!_+++===::::::... The picture has flaws that prove its fake, like having a UMD update icon but no UMD play icon, and the time/battery life meters are missing. But the one alot of people keep saying about "Where the hell is the browser?". That is entirely possiable not to have that! The browser did not show up till firmware 2.00! All the ones before that (firmwares 1.00, 1.50, 1.51, 1.52) DID NOT EVEN HAVE THE NETWORK CATAGORY, much less any of the icons used in that catagory! (And so, no browser and no RSS feeds) I find it amazing that some people don't know this. Even if they just got them self's a new 2.60 PSP from the store, everyone should still know this if they come to this website. Once again, that little rant was not to say I belive the picture is real, by all means its fake, and if you didn't see that you need to do some research about PSP's. But if you were saying it's fake completely because of the network catagory missing, and no other reason; you need to learn about the PSPs history since it's launch last year, because you surely don't know it at all. ---Now for an actual comment about the story:--- If this suposed 2.61 does exist, its sad that it will cause eLoader to stop working. I don't use it because i'm still holding my ground at 2.00 where I know I can back out to 1.50 when I want to. But i'm sure many people with newly purchased PSP's or people with little brothers and sisters that updated have to use eLoader alot. (I know someone who let thier little brother use the PSP, and he updated it to 2.60 with the Network Update icon in the Settings catagory, my friend was ultra pissed off. :S) Its really gotta suck for people that buy new PSPs as well, because they can't do anything about it. [That has to be the longest comment i've left anywhere in a long arse time.]

I remember the PSP advance scandal when this site was advertising spyware for the PSP. If any of the sensible developers are reading this abondon this site now and set up a credible resource. Firmware fakes are so easy to make everybody and their dog can make one. Lol i can even make a 9GB memory stick fake. If you firmware number dosen't match any numbers in your MAC address then you can even cheat the mac address "verification" stage. I won't be visiting this site for a long time. I will be working on my own homebrew and will release it to people that have a clue.

I got my first ever PS from EB games a few days ago, the $199 core. It came with 2.50. Best Buy will not put the "core" units on the shelves until the 9th is what I was told by a guy working in the gaming section.

Although I am skeptical about whether 2.61 exists or not, there is a logical explanation. 2.61 is 2.6 where the exploit has been fixed but no other features have been introduced. Therefore all the new PSPs are protected from the vulnerability, ie damage control. Sony would quite likely not post the upgrade on their servers because they could not advertise it on anything (hopefully 3.00 will have all those funky features). Again don't necessarily believe that its true but that would explain why sony have not updated their servers

Hello people, This image is faked because i work for Sony© Myself, I Help distribute the PSP's in stores etc, Firmware 2.61 Is fake because if you look where the 1 is, then where the shadow is, the shadow is clearly a 7, This image is edited using a smart program called photoshop, And yes, the so called " Thing " about 3.0 Firmware is true, it will be released, it has Included a few extra programs you can use, When the PS3 is released, There is a wireless controller for it, just like the Xbox 360' also, Firmware 3.0 Will support SWF's but they wont lag as much as they currently do in 2.7 at the moment, Plus : Homebrew will be allowed to some extent, For instance 2.6 Homebrew games will be able to be run, But only a few using 1 Eboot rather then 2, Therefore meaning the new Homebrew game PSPTris will be able to be ran, Its a neat little game, Firmware 3.0 will also Include one more little peice of software which will allow you to Edit your firmware, like change the game startup sound, Change the Icons and also add new sounds for the buttons when moving or scrolling across, Plus AT3 support will be added!
