Team Wildcard 3.40 LE PSP Custom Firmware - Image 1Well isn't this another big surprise? Earlier today we reported on the 3.40 OE reverse engineering development spearheaded by Team Wildcard. The goal of the project was to reverse engineer 3.10 and 3.40 OE, building a base for Team Wildcards future expansion of Dark Alex's Open Edition custom firmware which ended up getting leaked prematurely.

Due to this leak, Team Wildcard decided to made an official release of their source code. Which is now being followed up by a official build of their new PSP custom firmware, titled 3.40 LE (LE standing for Leaked Edition).

This release, which is an expansion originally based upon the reverse engineering of the 3.40 OE PSP custom firmware, brings all new features to the stalemate which Open Edition firmware was facing after Dark Alex decided to drop his PSP projects and development.

recovery menu - Image 1In addition to all the features previously offered by the 3.40 OE-A custom firmware, Team Wildcard brings us some great new features, such as:
  • Everything you know and love from 3.40 OE-A
  • A sexy new SCEP-style recovery menu
  • In-XMB configuration menu
  • Auto-detection of the kernel needed for homebrew - no need for GAME150 and GAME340; just put it all in GAME
It's also interesting to note that Team Wildcard mentions, "We were also working on a 3.52 custom firmware with even more features which luckily was not leaked. But after recent events, we can no longer be sure if it will ever see the light of day."

3.40 LE - Installation Guide
The installation overview should look very similar to the original OE firmware installation guide, thus installation should be a breeze for anyone who is currently on custom firmware. (Video thanks to xMATTx)
  1. Look inside the ZIP file for the folder that corresponds to your current firmware - either Custom Firmware or Firmware 1.50. To install 3.40*, you have to be on one of these. If you're not already on one of them, what are you waiting for? Downgrade!
  2. Copy the *CONTENTS* of the MS_ROOT folder onto the *ROOT* of your memory stick. This means the place where the 'PSP' folder is. It'll probably tell you that it has to overwrite the PSP folder. This is OK; just click Yes.
  3. Download the 1.50 and 3.40 firmware EBOOTs. ( included below )
  4. Rename the 1.50 EBOOT to 150.PBP.
  5. Rename the 3.40 EBOOT to 340.PBP
  6. Put both of them *in* the folder "X:PSPGAMEWildcard All-in-one Flasher", alongside the EBOOT.PBP file. (X: is your PSP's Windows drive letter.)
  7. Go into the PSP's Game menu, under Memory Stick, and run "3.40* All-In-One Updater". The installer will build the 3.40* DATA.DXAR file, then launch the flasher to install it. Follow the instructions on the screen TO THE LETTER and you'll be safe.

Warning: You take complete responsibility for flashing your PSP's firmware. Be warned that an incorrect flash can damage your PSP or even render it useless (bricked). Make sure you read all information available (README) and follow directions to make sure you understand the risks and new features completely before flashing. Yada yada ;) So download the 3.40 LE PSP custom firmware and feel free to discuss or ask questions about Team Wildcard's latest release in their thread, located in our PSP Development forums.

If you do brick then maybe you should read the instructions better. A number of people have tested this in the forum and so far only one person has reported (successfully?) bricking their PSP in the forums. Note the warning, read it and understand that you take responsibility for your own actions.

Yes I was just going to write about that too 3.51 picture weird isnt it? I expect great things for the CFW in the future and i hope that there will not be a seperation between M33 and Wildcard CFW users.

» I can't wait for 3.51/2

Hopefully it comes out, I'm not going to upgrade till than because I've already on 3.40 OE-A and it'd just be to much of a pain to downgrade, than reinstall into this one, plus I don't know if my theme will work. If it doesn't, I'd go back to DAX's, so basically, I'm not going to upgrade till 3.51/2 is out.

VERY nice job though!

They made a note of pointing this out in the forums. The reason the menu shows a different firmware revision is due to the fact they were working on a newer version when the source code to this was leaked.

dax's cfws will probably always be the most bug-free cfws. though even after 3.03 OE-C i started to notice more bugs. these guys seem better than m33. i havent tested the firmware yet but if people say its good than wurd ill probably go to it. m33 really didnt do much. they really just modded alot of daxs stuff. good coders nonetheless and im on 3.52 m33-2 now but much can be done to make cfw's better. i think team wildcard will be the ones to do it. and also their is an in-xmb plugin already. it has a file manager and can rename/copy/cut and alot of other shart.

by Jesus Man - 2007-08-06 15:34
» he's got baited breath...

This was reverse engineered from DAX OE so it is the real thing. This is as good as it gets to having a DAX CFW after DAX has left the scene. Team M33 are just plagiaristic noobs in denial. Team Wildcard 4evr!

» wtf?

other than the fact that you said f*ck, all your other insults seemed really childish (and saying f*ck is also getting to a point where even 5 year olds say it so...) Also they just reversed Engineered OE edition of CFWs. Currently the CFW by DAX has the least amount of bugs/issues and this new team is trying to build their CFW with Dax's cfw as the base. Your really dumb aren't you?

by Nub - 2007-08-06 18:40
» well... because.

3.52 doesn't have any games out yet that really need it so 3.40 is still an OK firmware for games. Also 3.52 M33 is said to have more problems than 3.40 OE, so __(fill in the blank)__. So currently we have a choice between higher fw version or more stable fw.... Actually I really dunno if this version is more stable but if they did a good job w/ reverse engineer OE then it should be fine.

by Me - 2007-08-06 19:25

by YourBandSucksXxX - 2007-08-07 00:20
» Well m33 is hindering

M-33 has been been a fairly good firmware. It has sufficed for me, and has offered me some cool features. However it isn't the most stable version, and still didnt add a fix for many of my themes that I really happen to like, but won't run on it.

When however they worked more nicely on the OE's. and I didn't really encounter any bugs on the OE. I mean I give M-33 major props for admitting to their faults right away and designing fixes to many of their problems right away, they seem to have quite a few to go.

One last point to be made here, being up to the newest version isn't that critical, especially when there isn't a game out that requires that version, so the newest version isnt currently that nessicary. Its a concept of which features you like better, and with the exception of Remote Play and just the sake of saying your at the newest version, it looks like LE is dominating the playing field with some overwhelmingly bit©hin cool features

I agree. M33 is 100% stable with everything that I have run on it. PS1 games, homebrew, ISOs, homebrew programs, music, pictures, UMD games, videos, internet, etc all works just as good as DAX firmwares ....so I don't see why people say its bad. People seem to say its "buggy" or doesn't work right...but I have yet to see any reasons to what is wrong....and I have yet to find any. I'm sticking with m33 though, because it IS the best firmware out now easily....people just don't like them because they replaced DAX (actually better than DAX) and thought their firmware was buggy because of all of the updates they released...when really the updates were just to make NO-UMD support better....not a bug at all ;) If you are not on M33 firmware, you suck.

totally agree. People doesn't seem to understand that updates are not always there to fix bugs.

Also, some people are afraid that with so much flashing the PSP could be bricked. That's totally BS, because you can flash the NAND 1000x times and nothing happens. I always enable flash0 access to copy new themes etc. and I made it so often, that i can't count it anymore. Besides, even

if something goes wrong with the updates, only the NO-UMD could be broken. The other files are not even touched.

» Tips

Just a quick tip from the developpement forum, if some of your homebrew still works, but some doen't it may be becaus you have the __SCE__ and %__SCE__ appendages in the folder names, get rid of these and instead put the % mark at the end of the folder name (just match to all your other homebrew) also, there is a bug in the cpu speed settings, it will only change if you enter the internet browser...you can then exit and your cpu speed will be changed (confirmed by using PRXInfo)

A little side note too, if there are people who are a bit iffy on flashing this with custom icons installed, i flashed it with 3.40 OE and my Gears Of War icons just fine

» Is it just me...

I see CFW 3.51 at the bottom right of the psp screen in the video. But that wouldn't make sense since it's 3.40 LE.

Maybe Team Wildcard is headed by Sony... it looks too good to be true. A trap I say.

It is, they just need to make a 3.52 version.

» WTF are you talking about??

If you seriously need to ask if you have to make it and where you should put it because it's not in the readme (spelling and grammar errors corrected), maybe you should sit down with your parent(s) and ask about the birds and the bees. Maybe it's just me, but I don't need a readme for that.

» m33 is shady

I think the m33 dev team are a buncha flaming kiddies and thats just my own 'opinion' but as far as their development works go its pretty solid except i have one or two minor bugs such as when coming back from standby when lauched into and iso when i go to the next part of the game that requires loading it usually hangs and a hard reset is required. Personally im loving the look of this team wildcard firmware and the dev team seems to be pretty mature except i hope they have some thick skin so that some of the lamers in the scene dont ruin their development process because i cant wait for the 3.52 release with a sony patched loader and who knows what other features. Team Wildcard FTW!!!

» Grow up.

Does it really matter which CFW is better? There isn't a need to convince people on which is better, it doesn't make a difference. Both of 'em are free either way. You really just have to decide what features you really want. If you play lots of brand new UMDs, then yes, 3.52 M33 would probably be a better choice. Now I have 3.40 OE-A. Personally, I am about to move to this 3.40 LE FW because I don't play much other than homebrew (NEVER PSP isos though, and only a couple of Playstation isos OF GAMES THAT I OWN). If I don't like the LE, I'll try 3.51 M33.

» hmm

I see nothing wrong with people trying to BETTER the community. I currently use M33, I have problems with some homebrew, Xandu's media player for example.

I cheer for both M33 and WildC*rd

» i believe you are mistaken

Maybe I am, i haven't really tried playing alien syndrome on my psp at cfw 3.40 oe-a. I bought it after the fact that I had already upgraded to cfw 3.52 m33. Hmm, I really do like the custom themes for 3.40. But I know that the game umd has an upgrade to 3.50, but this may not mean that it requires it. Damn, sony may have played me for a fool. I had assumed that when a game comes with an upgrade to a new firmware that it meant that I must be at that firmware version. This was true for all of my umd's. Interesting... Thanks wheh.

by pdAve - 2007-08-08 09:15
» Doesn't Matter to ME

I'm really greatful for that fact that I am able to play homebrew games, after all that is truely the only reason that I bought a PSP. I remember trying to take it back the very next day that I bought it. There wasn't a HEN for 2.71 yet and I had NO INTEREST at all in any of sony's games (umd's) what so ever. So THANKS to all whom have made it possible for myself and others to play homebrew games on our PSP's. You've got to love custom firmwares...

» About Timidity on cfw 3.52 m33

Does anyone know if or how to get Timidity (latest version) working on cfw 3.52 m33. If you dont know, timidity is a midi player that has been ported to the psp and thank god for it. But mine stoped working when I upgraded to 3.52 m33. Says that the game or file is corrupted. Any help would be apprieated. Thank you.

» It's okay

I installed the LE. The install went fine, slow, but it was ok and it gives you like 3 different chances to bail out. First when I booted it up it was nothing special. Except that it crashed as soon as the bootwaves appeared. So I just restarted it. Then, unlike the first time, it took a while to boot up. This time however, it gave me the "corrupted settings" screen. Everyone has probably seen that before, it appears right after you install and of the DAX FW's. So I hit O and the setup screens language defaulted to Japanese. The X button didn't work to continue tro the next screen. A second later I realized that O was enter and X was back. So my PSP changed to a Japanese PSP. (what a weeaboo)

Anyways, after trying tons of different things I got to the XMB. When I tried out that nifty new in XMB recovery menu, it froze as soon as I went into the general settings menu. When I reset, I got to the corrupted settings, still in Japanese.

After fudging around for a couple of hours, I remembered something somebody said about it setting up Flash1. So I went into Flash1 in the recovery menu (you can only get the actual recovery settings in the hold-R-on-boot menu) and deleted everything there. I got the corrupted settings screen again but in english this time. After that everything worked fine.

Luislizard's flasher program works just fine with this. The autodetecting GAME folder is kind of buggy. Demos won't run unless you set the default kernal to 3xx. Everything else worked fine after that tho, so I guess it's fine.

And BTW, the recovery menu DOES say 3.51 wildcard in it for some reason.
